computer screen, computer and gaming?

Q. i recently posted a question asking if an hd tv could have a computer and a gaming system hooked up to it at the same time.

now im wondering if i can have a gaming system(xbox 360) hooked up to a COMPUTER screen and display in hd qualities. is that possible?

A. I know for a fact that you can hook your xbox 360 to a HDTV

http://www.xbox365.com/news.cgi?id=GGrLdLdiLL05191619

But having HDTV quality on your pc monitor is quite impossible. comparing the hdtv screen with your pc lcd pixels and screen lines are far too different. Its a what you see what you get kinda thing. It is not controlled by a software. The term HD - hi-definition refers to number of pixels or lines compacted to fit your tv to give very nice detail which your computer LCD is not yet capable. If you can afford a HD-LCD screen for your computer then you can do it.

Computer screen eye damage?
Q. When I'm not driving or sleeping I'm at a computer. I'm in school for video game design and I will be working with computers all my life. When I'm not working on one I'm playing games on one. So how can I prevent my eyes from getting damaged? Are there certain screens or screen masks that will help? Or maybe glasses?

A. Computers cannot damage your eyes. Computer use at worst will cause headaches, eyestrain, and/or fatigue. To avoid these: Take breaks and look into the distance for 20 seconds every 20 minutes. Take longer breaks every hour or so when you are on for longer. Make sure your eyes stay lubricated--get some good rewetting drops (stay away from Visine). Have good room lighting that doesn't cause glare. Have your screen at least arm's length away, further if possible. For more information, look up "Computer Vision Syndrome."

Screen Resolution? Computer Games?

Q. Ok so when i try to play the Sims or other computer games I always get the same warning: "The selected screen resolution is not optimal for this display device. Consider using 1280 X 800 to ensure the best viewing experience. Resolution Settings other then 1280 X 800 could result in fuzzy display." Which is true all the games are blurry or not sharp. Anyway, how do I solve this problem?

A. Games have a separate configuration area where you have to set the resolution that you want the game to run at. Your LCD screen has a recommended resolution of 1280x800, anything other than this resolution will not look as clear. So basically it's warning you of this when it switches to any resolution other than what is recommended by the manf of the LCD screen.

Go into the game graphics options and set the resolution to 1280x800 to resolve.

how to make computer game full screen?
Q. i just installed a game on my new laptop but for reason it doesn't go full screen does anybody know how make it full screen?
thanks

A. What game is it? Usually games have the fullscreen option in the game that you can turn on. if not, try:
Right click -> Create shortcut (if not already doing this on a shortcut)
Right click (on shortcut) -> Properties
"Shortcut" tab
change "Run" from "Normal" to "Maximized"

Graphic cards, computer screen, and games...

Q. I installed a new graphiccard on my PC as the game I bought for my son (Oblivion) wouldn't work with the one I had. I am not a computer wwhiz but I think it went okay... I installed the driver ( I think), but when I switch the computer screen lead to the new card, even tthoughit seems to rrecognizeit (black screen at the very beginning says "NVidia"), after that the whole screen goes black, and I have to re attach the computer screen to the old slot. I am worried about uuninstalling or rather disabling the old card, because if i do and it doesn't work, then I have no way of getting it back!! (I mean, I'll only have black screens right?). Please help, I'm only a mum. I'm trying my best but it is now beyond me...

A. Restart your computer, and press the del button while it is starting up (if del doesn't work, try any of the options here: http://forums.techguy.org/tech-tips-tricks/39456-bios-keys-different-systems.html). You should be in the BIOS now. Navigate to the performance area, or wherever you can find something about a graphics card. Now, turn external on to primary, and disable the integrated.

I know it sounds complicated, but it really isn't! You can do this easily.

computer problems. black screen when gaming.?
Q. whenever i'm playing a game on steam(tf2 or l4d) sooner or later my screen will go black and loop the last sound played, no matter how low I put the settings it always does this. my graphic card should be able to handle this game easily. also there is no way I can do anything once the screens gone black. some times it works for a long time and is fine. but most of the time it does this.

A. If your computer freezes while playing a game, particularly a very graphics-intensive one, it can mean your computer doesn't have high enough specs. Your graphics card isn't the only factor contributing to your system's performance, dozens of other things effect it. Depending on how new your computer is and whether you upgraded your graphics card, you may have a motherboard too slow to handle your upgraded card. The motherboard is very expensive to replace so if this is the case the best thing is probably to remove your upgraded graphics card, buy a computer with a faster motherboard and processor, and put your old card in. It may be that you don't have enough RAM to play the game, so this is just a simple matter of going to your local electronics store, buying some new ram (usually only $50- $100) and putting it in. Another option is to try defragmenting your machine's hard drive.

Hope this helps!

How not to play a computer game full screen?

Q. Is there some way to play a computer game without it filling up the whole screen? I have a Mac, so dont say how to do it on a Windows comp. Any help is appreciated :)
the game is Sims 3 btw

A. That would depend on the game. You cannot access that option through your basic Mac controls. However, you may be able to find the option in your game's settings in your options menu. Open up the game's main menu and then go to either "options" or "settings". From there you'll want to look for "graphics" or "resolution" or something like that. Then you may be able to find other options besides fullscreen. I know these instructions are broad.... Sorry about that. If you say what game, I might be able to help more.

Computer makes a noise in full screen games?

Q. Whenever i'm running a computer game in full screen (higher graphics games) i hear this weird noise in my computer and i'm unable to determine where it's coming from. I've tried maxing out my graphics card fan to see if it is because the fan is being made louder but that doesn't sound anything like it. What could it be, could my hard drive be making it possibly?

A. offcenter fan in one of:

PSU
GPU
case fan
or mobo fan(s)

high hard disk activity?

now would be a great time to determine if your case is overheating on load.

there is ZERO RECOVERY from heat damage.
