Can somebody refer me to a good gaming computer for under $800?

Q. I need a high quality gaming computer for under $800. It must be fully loaded and ready to use (case fans, operating system, etc...) It doesn't need to have things such as a mouse, keyboard, or speakers, but it needs to be ready to use. Some minimum requirements I am looking for are:4gb of ram, quad core processor, 9400GT 1gb geforce graphics card, and a 480 power wattage supply. Also, every other aspect of the computer must be good for gaming; I need to run games like WoW and Aion without lag. Please leave a link to a website or something. Best answer gets 10 points.

A. You're in luck because WoW and Aion are games with fairly minimal system requirements- those will run well on most hardware. But your proposed build is backwards from what you'd need to optimize gaming performance.

First off, the 9400GT isn't a gaming card. It's half the speed of a 9500GT (which isn't great either). Gamers should not settle for anything less than a Radeon 4670 or GeForce 9600GT, which are about $75. The video card is the most important component in a gaming machine, having roughly twice the impact upon framerates as your CPU. There's a world of difference between $70-$80 cards and models in the $40-$50 range.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-graphics-card,2464.html

Second... for GAMING, your processor clockspeed is more important than whether it's dual, triple or quad-core. 95% of games don't take advantage of the additional cores anyway (the exceptions being Crysis, GTA and Supreme Commander).

The 3.0Ghz E8400 (Core 2 Duo) is vastly better for gaming than the 2.5Ghz Q8300 (Core 2 Quad). And because quads are more expensive, you winding up spending more money on your CPU and less on your graphics card, which hurts even more. The combination of a $75 CPU and $150 graphics card easily outperforms the combination of a $150 CPU and $75 graphics card. Same story if you're $100 and $200 components.

Quads are better overall for non-gaming tasks like movie editing and heavy multitasking but if you're looking for maximum bang/buck on a budget, Core 2 Duo or possibly AMD quad-core (which costs about the same as Intel Core 2 Duo) is the way to go.

Here's a nice system- just slightly out of your price range ($829 before shipping)

Here's a link to customize a gaming computer:
http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Mega_Special_I/

Just choose a few upgrades...

Phenom II X2 550 Black edtion CPU
GeForce 9800GT or Radeon 4770 video card
Windows 7 Home Premium

And you're set! Cost before shipping: $699

Or buy a computer from Best Buy, then go online for a better video card to upgarde it:

Neither of the upgraded Best Buy systems will compare to the CyberPower or iBuypower machines. But still more than powerful enough for WoW and Aion.

Like most off-the-shelf computers, they come standard with 300W power supplies so you can't install anything above the Radeon 4670 without buying a better power supply. But that's not difficult and you'd still be under budget. So if you wanted a GeForce 9800GT you'd spend about $150 additional ($100 for the card, $50 for a 500W psu)

You won't find well-built gaming rigs which already contain strong power supplies & graphics cards on retail stores shelves at reasonable prices. For a nice gaming rig on the cheap, you'll either have to build from scratch, buy online, or perform a few upgrades yourself.

Good gaming computer? for under 800£?
Q. I want a good gaming computer (not laptop) that has windows 7 and can run games efficiently and have no lagg and the gameplay is smooth like oblivion fallout 3 and role playing games.
And has a big hard drive for me to keep recorded videos in their and i would have the settings on med [graphic]

A. Here are some:

1. http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0447460689.1266167536@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccgeadejimhgjgdcflgceggdhhmdgmh.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=107755&category_oid=

2. http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0447460689.1266167536@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccgeadejimhgjgdcflgceggdhhmdgmh.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=237598&category_oid=

and you need to add in an extra graphics card:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sapphire-HD5750-GDDR5-Express-Graphics/dp/B002RXM5WE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1266167877&sr=8-1

3. http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0447460689.1266167536@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccgeadejimhgjgdcflgceggdhhmdgmh.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=375100&category_oid=

I would go with option 2, far better gaming performance and also DX11 graphics card ATI 5750.

Best gaming computer under 800$?

Q. Heres a challenge best gaming computer under 800$ including the monitor.

Link to actual computers.

Build a computer yourself send me the link if you want or find one online thats already good.

A. Ok, here is one for $679 in the link below. It has nice Quad Core AMD processor overclocked, good video card but I would upgrade it to at least 6750, everything else is just fine. Will run any game, most on high settings. You can ask for any promotions on this one as I know CC runs them a lot, without announcing. Monitor- right now there is an excellent deal on ebay - buy.com sells Viewsonic 24" for just $130!, so it makes a good $800 machine.

Can i build/buy a fast gaming computer for under $800?

Q. I want to get a gaming computer but my budget is at around $800!! I was wondering, can i get a fast reliable gaming computer for under 800 dollars and still get high FPS and no lag and will i be able to run any game? If so could someone give me some links or some advice where to shop and what to do??

Also i already have a big monitor and a keyboard and mouse!!

A. Yes you can. but don't expect to go to far from 800. Prolly around 600 to 700.

Now if you knew how to build a pc 'd direct you to sites like newegg.com. tigerdirect.com. micropc.com.

But I'm guessing you havn't before. And I say this because while it's not hard, alot of shit can go wrong and you get to spend the time sometimes troubleshooting it.

So i'm thinking a builders site is for you. The one I like to use is http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Gamer_Xtreme_1000/ Subsiquently that's a build I ran over quickly. Though you can tweak it for your liking. Because it's labor day they have alot sales going on. SO, spend a day running through that place and see what ya come up with.

Granted I still say home built would be cheaper and better if you have the tinkering skills.

I need help building a gaming computer, can someone help?

Q. I want to build a gaming computer for under $800, I want to be able to mainly run World of Warcraft at its full potential, and of course other PC games at their full settings like Oblivion. If anyone can build me a list of the perfect parts for the computer and prices that would be awesome.

A. Maximum PC recently ran an article on a $667 gaming PC, which should meet your needs nicely. The article even includes step-by-step instructions on assembling the components if you need help with that. Link: http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/how_build_kick-ass_gaming_rig_under_700

Would these parts work for my gaming computer and or any suggestions?

Q. Im trying to make my first gaming computer for under 800 dollars. If you have any other suggestions please make them. Fill out a cart and post the link here that would be much appreciated.
this is the cart i have made http://secure.newegg.com/Shopping/ShoppingCart.aspx?Submit=view

A. A power supply (PSU). 6-700 watts, probably. Antec is a good brand.
A case. I like Cooler Masters, I have an Elite 430. Could go with anything though.
A motherboard. ASUS is a good brand. Get a couple of PCI-e slots and UEFI BIOS, will make your life easier.
Some RAM. I like Corsair-probably 1600mhz, 8 gigs should be enough.
A CPU. I like AMDs-Intels are really pricey. Go all-out, get an FX-8350.
A CPU cooler-Cooler Master 212 is considered the budget king.
A hard drive. You could get a solid state, they are fast. At least 7200 rpm.
Graphics card. nVidias are much longer lasting and lower temp then ATIs, in my experience.
An operating system. Windows 7 will cost about $100. You could crack it if you want and not pay-illegal software piracy though.
Thermal paste for the CPU. This stuff is cheap-get some Arctic Silver 5.

Pricewise, you are looking at (within your budget)
A $50 PSU.
A $50 case.
A $150 motherboard.
$50 worth of RAM. Go to 16gig if you want.
A $200 CPU.
$30 for a CPU cooler.
$150 for a graphics card.
$50 for a hard drive.
$100 for Windows.
$10 of thermal paste.

If you have the extra cash, get a solid state drive. Or skimp a little on other parts and get one-not to much though.
$100 for a solid state drive. That will get you about 100 gigabytes. I would recommend OCZ, I have had some good experiences with those.
You could numbers I gave, or drop the SSD. Don't go to only a SSD-they are pretty small.

Now-compatibility.
The PSU needs to support the system. Here is a PSU calculator. http://www.thermaltake.outervision.com/
The case needs to support the motherboard form factor.
The motherboard needs to have the same CPU socket as the CPU, the same DDR level and frequency as the RAM.
The CPU cooler must support the CPU socket.

You could get some new fans-the Elite 430 I mentioned comes with some. Noctua and Scythe are both very quiet. Noctua is expensive though.
That's it-hope this helps.

What is the best laptop for my budget?
Q. I currently have a gateway desktop computer and I'm thoroughly unimpressed with how crappy it is. Basically I want a good gaming computer, (doesn't have to be amazing but I'd like to be able to run a decent amount of games). My budget is anything under $1000, but I'd prefer to go under 800. I prefer Dell and Toshiba computers but if there are better computers for a reasonable price please name them. Links would be greatly appreciated.

A. My recommendation for the best cost:performance in a notebook for gaming is ASUS. I agree with sinister's selection as to the model ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220566 ) with the GT240M. It's the best GPU you can get in a laptop without taking a gun to your budget.Additionally, Newegg.com is an excellent vendor.

I've owned an Asus for 17-18 months, it's a fantastic value and they are solid as anything you could ask for. I also paid about $1000 and even today I've yet to find anything it cannot run from Crysis to GTAIV or Supreme Commander. And that was a year ago.

Since they're your preferences: Toshiba Laptops are also excellent, most are not suited well to gaming. However, Dell laptops, especially those spec'd to gaming on the XPS line, have a tendency to overheat without an additional cooling solution.
