Computer power supply?

Q. Say I get like 750 wat power supply, and I plug in all neccessary items for like a 400 or 500watt computer, what will happen, also what will happen if the power supply is below the 400 or 500watt on a 400-500 watt computer

A. The rating is the maximum power that the power supply can supply.

If the computer uses less than the maximum, the power supply will supply what the computer uses.

If the computer uses more than the maximum, the power supply will overheat and die, or it will shut down.

Most switching power supplies will just shut down. So when your graphics card starts using more power to play a game and pushes the total power usage over the maximum, the power supply will shut off and then turn back on. Your computer will unexpectedly reboot.

Gaming computer Power Supply?
Q. I need a 1000 watt power supply under $300.

i need a modular psu. The quiter the better. I want a very reliable one that will last a while. effecient. Enviornement friendly would be nice (but don't rule out any good power supplies for this)

which of these are better?

if there is anything better than this please give a link. Also if you chose i would appreciate a reason why its good. thanks

A. Well it sounds like the ocz psu wins out over the corsair in terms of sales pitch. Corsair has a much better reputation for consistent performance and I think ocz is a new comer to the power supply game. But I have ocz memory which is very good, reliable, stable memory.

This is what OCZ says about warrenty:

OCZ Technology Group offers a 3 or 5 year PowerSwap® Warranty on all PSUs

All OCZ Power Supply Families feature an exclusive warranty that allows you to "swap out" a defective power supply, without the need to wait on the repair of your defective unit. This eliminates the hassle of return-for-repair loops that other companies put you through, saving you time and ensuring you will receive a 100% hand tested, fully functioning unit as a replacement. Your defective power supply can be returned for replacement at any time within the specified warranty period. All replacements are guaranteed to operate without issue and to full specification. (3 & 5 year warrenty).

Here is what Corsair says about warrenty:

Five year limited warranty with 24/7 on demand customer service

So it appears that OCZ has 3 AND 5 year warrenties. While Corsair backs theirs for a FULL 5 years.

You might want to call OCZ and find out which warrenty period your OCZ psu has.

I say, "PUT UP OR SHUT UP" when it comes to warrenty.

In reality, both supplies look good, its just stacking up the features against each other...

I think you will do well with either one...so TOSS A COIN! LOL :)
