What skills are needed to produce your own PC game?

Q. Take WoW for example, or Runescape. What overall skills do you need to make these games? C++ programming to make the base of the game, computer science to learn other programming and problem solving, graphic design for animations, what else?? I want to go to school for computer science while my friend does graphic design. I am learning c++ coding at the moment, but we are trying to figure out everything needed to make a game like that. Thanks.

A. Start off with a game engine around which you build what you want

Is it possible to make an online game all by yourself?
Q. For example the game Runescape: is it possible to make a game like this all by yourself.
HOWEVER for music you could hire someone just to work on the music and that's all?

A. Yup it's totally possible. All you got to do is to learn computer languages like C++ or Java and using a game engine, you can start making a simple game.
However to make a game the scale of Runescape, i don't think it will be that simple though.. You might want to start out by making a simple 2D flash game and working your way up to a more advanced level. But don't except to make a full scale 3D game unless you're investing a lot of time into it.

Just look up game/coding tutorials, they can be found easily.

Just a few game engines that i know.

What was your first Computer or Game system?

Q. What was your first computer or game system?
Mine was a Timex Sinclair 1000. Bought it a store called SILO's was worthless. Couldn't do much on it. My first game system was Pong.

A. Pong, Then space invaders in the arcade, then I got a job and never went past that, to busy making a living.

What would you like to see change in computer gaming systems?
Q. I recently read that the computer gaming industry is running at 30 or 40% of what they could really be. What would change this? What needs to be done to increase this percentage?

A. personally i would like to see games utilize the dual core technology more, i recently bought Doom but found it only using half of the dual core (one core only) and as its a new comp i built i am really looking for a game to test its limits.

better programmers, and people emplyed only to come up with new game ideas would certainly be a help. also more 3d games and extreme interactive technology if you can find technology to help you pet your cat if your in asia and your cats in ontario why cant you wear a suit that when you get shot vibrates in that spot?

What TV would be best to use as a TV and computer monitor?

Q. I plan to use my next TV as a computer monitor because I cant afford both.

I'm looking to get a 1080p LED, not too picky on any particular brand. but it has to be under or around 350$

What would work best to serve both of these functions? Are there any specific cables need to have it work as both? and will 60hz to 120 hz really matter, as I am mainly using the Tv for gaming.

A. Most TV's come with a VGA port on the back that you can easily connect to the desktop. HDMI is better but you need a video card that has it built in instead of using a DVI to HDMI convertor. As far as the refresh rate goes you wont notice a difference. I use a 32 inch toshiba flat screen with 720p and its awesome to play on. I also have my cable running through to my TV as well and just switch to the input I want.

I installed a new video card and now my desktop and icons are blurry?
Q. I recently installed a geforce 9500gt graphics card and have been having some problems. After I did the install I rebooted my computer and noticed that everything was blurry. I'm using a 32 inch LG tv as a monitor and am connecting it to my computer with an avg to dvi cable. I've tried toggling the screen resolution and that didn't help. The strange thing is that video games look fine when I play them but everything else does not look very sharp. Any ideas?

A. It is normal for this to happen coming out of a VGA connection, text needs very precise pixel alignment and a very clean signal for a really sharp image, they usually only get very sharp on computer monitors because they can run at the exact native resolution and are designed to be sharp. With TV's it is hard to match the video card to the exact native resolution of the TV. Find out what your TV's native Resolution is and set it to as close to this as possible on the Nvidia control panel, most new full HD LCD screens are 1920 x 1080, some of the cheaper TV's are only HD ready (720p) which means it will not be as sharp as full HD. The best way to connect to a TV is with a Digital DVI or HDMI out from the graphics card. The newer video cards like the gt240 have 3 outputs HDMI, DVI, AND plain old vga so are the better ones to go for if connecting to a TV, especially HDMI as you also get the audio to the TV as well.

I want a good gaming computer for around 500-600 dollars?

Q. I would like a gaming computer that could run minecraft, Arma 2, and Guild Wars 2 with high graphics. Can anyone help me with specs that include a monitor recommendation?

A. this is a 540$hp, currently out of stock but you can find it in other stores, can cerntanly play low-mid end games such as minecraft armour 2 and others , thats the whole reason i bougth it,

check out game debate, there you can search up games requirments and you will see the desktop below beats them or is right below them but not by much and you can always upgrade the graphics card and maybe do crossfire and play games like skyrim gta5 saints row 3, not that you cant already with the below desktop just that you will probably have to sacrifice some graphics in order to play with decent game frames but i assume not by much

AMD Radeon HD 7560D Discrete Graphics With up to 4059MB total available graphics memory it has way better graphics unit then a GeForce 310 by far and i mean it beats the crap out of the 310.

and it has AMD Quad-Core A8-5500 Accelerated processor 3.20GHz, 4MB L2 Cache which also beats the crap out of most i5 processors but some i5 processors are stil la bit better, depends on which,

even though it has no screens you can fijnd a pretty good one for $88 which would put you around for $630 in total ,
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Dell-Exact-model-may-vary/21009304 , this is a very high deph screen and pretty decent size for $88, that is cheap compared to the others i researched , the 1280 x 1024 resolution is pretty mighty plus the dvi-d fits the desktop
heres some general info

AMD Quad-Core A8-5500 Accelerated processor
3.20GHz, 4MB L2 Cache

8GB DDR3 SDRAM system memory (expandable to 32GB)
Gives you the power to handle most power-hungry applications and tons of multimedia work

1TB SATA hard drive
Store 666,000 photos, 285,000 songs or 526 hours of HD video and more

SuperMulti DVD Burner
Watch movies, and read and write CDs and DVDs in multiple formats

10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN
Connect to a broadband modem with wired Ethernet or wirelessly connect to a Wi-Fi signal or hotspot with the 802.11b/g/n connection built into your PC

AMD Radeon HD 7560D Discrete Graphics
With up to 4059MB total available graphics memory

now if you dont beielve this one is better then the one mentioned by the other guy look the parts up here http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/ for the video cards, the one in this hp are in the high end and the geforce 310 are in medium- range, http://www.cpubenchmark.net/ , for hte cpu, there are a lot of i5 processors but only one a8-5500 , quick way to search them is clicking ctrl+ f then just type in the main namel ike a8-5500 and bam.

What would be a good computer for gaming within the $1000 or less price tag?

Q. Well, I've been considering what computer I should get for gaming but I want to keep it in a decent price range. It doesn't have to be top of the line or anything, it just has to be able to keep up with the games we have today. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

AMD Phenom 9500
$ 180

MSI K9A2 Platinum
$ 170

HIS Radeon HD3850 IceQ Turbo
$ 205

Creative SoundBlaster Audigy SE
$ 30

Corsair Dual Channel TWINX 2048MB PC6400 DDR2
$ 35

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB Hard Drive - 7200, 8MB, Serial ATA-300

Acer AL2216WBD 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor
$ 230

Logitech X-540 5.1 Speaker system
$ 50

Logitech EX-1100 Cordless Mouse & Keyboard
$ 25

Total : $ 1050

This is a good gaming PC with Quad Core AMD, latest graphic card, 2 GB performance RAM, 5.1 surround speaker, & 22" inch LCD monitor...!!!

What should I consider when buying speakers for PC?
Q. I am looking for speakers for my PC, what specs should I look for in order to get value for my buck. In addition, which make is considered to be good?

A. It will all depend on what your tastes are, your budget, and your use. Do you do a lot of on line gaming, listen to music, watch movies? I would choose a 7.1 system, because I watch a lot of movies. For gaming, I would go with a 5.1 system. There are several good brands. Just remember, you usually get what you pay for. how can I develop a computer game?

Q. I have a computer game in my mind but do not know how to make it a reality.I have everything plan of the game.

A. C# is a easy to learn language. Download Visual C# express 2010(free of cost!) -> then learn that language
Finally download Microsoft XNA Game Studio(free of cost) and start developing games!(for Windows)
________________________________________________________________

You should know, the platform, like you want to develop games for like you want to develop games for Play Stations or Microsoft X-Box or for iPod, Internet or Windows or Android or Nokia, Mac, Windows Phone, rather a very long list
I'm a Windows Programmer, so I can tell you only about Microsoft or its product
Microsoft supports itself, so its better if you develop for Microsoft

_________________________________________________________________
Also dont want to discourage you, but tell you the truth, Complex programs are developed of hundreds of ""**Super-Brilliant**"" people working together, It involves the work of 3-D Graphics Developers, programmers, data analyst, etc Games like GTA cannot be developed by me or you alone
So I give you an idea,
Develop your idea for game more such that its 3-d, enjoying, can be played by all ages, etc and then suggest to a Big Company
OR if you are good enough at math(programming) and you're hard-working, start your own company and I know you'll "play" in millions. Good Luck!

How do i learn and become a computer / video game programmer?
Q. I am a junior in high school and love video games. I am very precise and work well alone. For all these reasons i am interested in possibly pursuing a career in computer / video game programming. But first i need to learn how? I would love any suggestions on maybe a good online class i can take to get me started. Then ideas on how to make it my career. What would be the best way to get a job as a programmer? and how?

A. For one, I recommend AGAINST Eli's advice. You will not learn game programming by using the "Easy Routes". If you want to be able to make memory efficient, fast, satisfying games you should look into other methods. (If you ever want to be anything but a hobbyist programmer you HAVE to learn actual programming. Good luck getting a job if your resume only includes "Unity3D" ;D)

My Recommendation:
1: Learn a programming language (C and/or C++)
2: Learn the Windows API (Mainly for tools creation, but minimally for game programming)
3: Learn a Graphics API (DirectX and/or OpenGL)
4: Make EASY games until you are comfortable with the languages/APIs and how they work together (This will teach you the fundamentals of your programming language and graphics API of choice, how they work together, and teach you game related devices required for larger projects such as handling the game loop. This will also make learning to write proper code easier to learn because the scale of the game will be smaller, and therefore easier to manage)
5: Keep creating programs and/or games that are of your skill level, with a few newly added features. Introduce yourself to new topics slowly. Successfully creating a Pong clone is going to aid you a LOT more than failing to create a successful MMORPG.
6: If you enjoy programming, enroll in a college for Software Engineering/Computer Science. Make sure they have classes for Object Oriented Programming and things like that. If you learned a language already in High School, you will have a head start on college, so either way it will be beneficial to start now.

Also, you must work well as a team as well as alone. If you join a game company you will be working with a team and most likely working on code you did not even initially create. Blizzard didn't create World of Warcraft by paying only one man, you know! If you want to be a one man team you will need to expand your knowledge incredibly. You will need to learn how to create, rig, animate, texture models... how to create sound effects, background music... how to program the game (which seems to be what you are after)... and MUCH more. (Nothing is impossible, but as a one man team you will need to rely on releasing Indie games and hope they do well. If they do, you could be a rich, rich human being! If they don't, you might want to sign up for food stamps!)

Good luck! It's actually a lot of fun aside from chasing bugs and memory leaks, but you will not care when you have a finished project. It's just so satisfying ;D Just never forget, technology is swiftly evolving, and Game Programming is like playing a musical instrument. You are never "Finished learning".

PS-
Look into C++ Primer Plus Fifth Edition. It's a great book to learn C++.
As for IDE's to start developing with? It is completely your decision but I recommend Visual Studio 2010 Express Edition OR Bloodshed Dev-C++. You only need one, and Visual Studio is far superior, but Dev-C++ is sufficient until you get into programming graphics (Learning C++ initially will be Console Window based, and therefore a bare-bones IDE will suffice)

How come in computer games/films you cannot easily see what is above or below you?

Q. In computer games, in first person, you cannot see what is above you and below you, like you can in real life. how come this is the case?
Does it have to do with the roundness of your eyes or something? it cannot be the size of the screen, because even on very big screens this is the case. does it have something to do with the camera, and the wat it is positioned? or that you have 2 eyes and there is only one camera?

A. depends on how you program the game....

What computer games right have the highest system requirements?
Q. What computer games right have the highest system requirements?

What is that system requirements?

What is the average and highest fps fo all computer games? (high and low system requirements games)

A. What you need:

-A dual core or quad core pentium or AMD (I like
AMD, but pentium is good too).
-2 gigs of DDR2 Ram
-Raided 10000 RPM hard drives. Size is up to you, but bigger is better for storage purposes. The RPM's are the important thing though, and RAID 0 bumps the speed to something fierce.
-NVidea 6800 ultra or better for a graphics card. A dual set up for card is nice, but not strictly necessary.
-450 watt power supply.
-Compatible motherboard (I like Asus better than Abit)
-A 1600-2400 Dpi mouse (noticeable difference there)
-A light-up keyboard so you can play in the dark.
-Soundblaster Audigy w/ speakers & subwoofer.
-Lian Li (or other) case
-Enough fans to keep that SOB cool

You'll be able to play FEAR, Oblivion, Crysis or Far Cry 2 at full optimization AND run a virus scan in the background. No joke man.

Have fun :)

Edit: And definitely go with a lower GHZ dual/quad core over a higher GHZ singlecore. The dual thread architecture is superior in every way, game manufacturers are starting to exploit that.

How do you fix an Astro A40 Computer Headset Buzzing Noise?

Q. I just got a new Astro a40 computer gaming headset. But it makes a constant buzzing or crackling or static noise that is very annoying and stupid for the expense of this headset. This noise is also heard by others when I'm in Skype. I can't find a solution anywhere. Help.
I just noticed, it seems like the more tabs and programs I have up the louder the static sound.

A. This happened to a Turtle Beach headset my brother had. I just installed the latest realtek audio drivers and it fixed the problem.

is it possible to wire USB headsets to a clear com belt pack?
Q. I'm looking to update my theatre's headset inventory as cheaply as possible. If I took a computer or gamer headset (earmuffs) could I make or create an adapter to a ClearCom belt pack 4-pin female input?

A. Not one with a USB plug. USB is digital and the clearcoms are analog. There is some circuitry somewhere on the USB headset (usually in one of the cups) that converts the digital to analog, so I guess you could patch in on the other side of that, but it's probably way too much work. A better alternative would be to use an analog gamers headset. They usually have 2 plugs at the end of the cable for the mic and the speakers. You can probably get the necessary plug from someone like markertek (http://www.markertek.com/Connectors-Adapters/Audio-Connectors/XLR-Connectors/Neutrik-USA-Inc/NC4FX.xhtml?NC4MX ). That or search eBay for NOS or used ( http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p3984.m570.l1313&_nkw=clearcom+headset&_sacat=See-All-Categories ).

What would be a good laptop to play games like WOW and Diablo 3 around 600$?

Q. The more suggestions the better, I just need a better idea of what models I should look into for gaming. Anywhere from 400-700 dollars. I don't need an outstanding intense gaming computer. Just a computer that won't lag on games like diablo 3

-thanks
Garrett

A. The best choice with your budget would be the Acer Aspire V3-571G-6622 . It has a good graphics card as well as one of the best processors for gaming .
For a gaming laptop, you want to ensure that you have a good processor, dedicated graphics card as well as sufficient RAM.
The Acer Aspire V3-571G-6622 ha the Intel Core i5-3230M Processor (great for gaming)
plus the NVIDIA GeForce GT 730M 2GB discrete/dedicated graphics card which is a good graphics card that will work amazingly with the i5 processor.
This machine also has 4 GB RAM which is good and can be upgraded to 8GB, plus a 500 GB hard drive. It also has a good battery life which is very important.
This laptop is sold for $629.99 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B7JE6G2/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00B7JE6G2&linkCode=as2&tag=cheonlsto-20

This machine will play Games like WOW and Diablo 3 on high to ultra settings

Hope my answer helped you.

What's a good list of computer components for a budget gaming pc?
Q. I need help picking out parts for a desktop gaming computer that won't break the bank. Budget wise, I want to stay under 700 or 800 dollars. I kind of want to run graphically intense games like Skyrim on decent settings. I also want a fast processor to do all of this. If anyone who is an "expert or good" with this kind of stuff I would really appreciate tips about the subject. If possible could i have a list of parts/components to work with and instructions to build... thanks

A. This is what I could come up for you. What you could do initially is spend a bit more on the core specs of the system and temporarily use the integrated graphics (which really is not made for gaming) on the CPU then you could upgrade to a better graphics card later (That's what I did). So if you can wait longer to game on it then that would be your best bet.

Also alot of these have mail-in-rebates so you can save money as long as you buy them before they expire, and then there are promo codes but newegg will only allow 1 promo per order. With Windows 7 64-bit OEM it might be a bit over budget initially maybe as much as 20$ after promo minus the rebates if you catch those. If you decide to do this you need to download the PDF's for the rebates before then expire which can be found on the item page. here are the instructions...

#1 Click on where it says "after mail-in rebate card"
#2 Click "print rebate" (you need adobe acrobat reader)
#3 Either print (printer icon) ,and, or save (the floppy disk icon) the pdf file to your documents folder

I am putting building a desktop. What are the best parts I can look for a good price?

Q. I'm planning on building a destop computer for gaming. I mostly do online gaming or load other games on the computer. I'm also thinking of starting from scratch or rebuilding from an old XP.
What am I looking for and what is a good brand?

A. The March 2011 edition of MaximumPC has an excellent article on building a gaming PC for just under $1,000. You could also do what I did and just buy one from IBuyPower for $600.

How exately does each computer part work for gaming? (computer gaming expert needed!)?
Q. Also what would be reccomended for a 2011 pure gaming pc build? Like how much RAM will I need/use and so on?

I will choose the best awnser on whichever one has the most information and is detailed, THANKS!!!

A. OS: 64-bit version of windows 7 (premium, pro, or ultimate)
RAM: AT LEAST 6 GB! not the 1gb that the other guy suggested. but yes, ddr3
CPU: any AMD quad- or hex-core with a speed above 3.5gHz or any intel i5 or i7
GRAPHICS: you do not need to spend $500. you can get a good ATI card for $100, and a fine one for $50 (search newegg for radeon 5450)
HDD: 500gb will probably cut it if you have a tight wallet, but you can most likely afford the extra FIVE DOLLARS to get a terabyte
SOUND: whatever you want. most motherboards these days have 5.1 or even 7.1 built in, so a separate card is most likely not necessary.

What is the best gaming computer for $500 or less?

Q. I am looking for a very good gaming computer for under $500. It can be already built or just components. I would like a desktop.

A. most average desktop pc's usually have a somewhat decent graphics card. alienware computers are really good on gaming pc's, and there should be a few computers for a little bit more or less than your 500 limit.

What is the best gaming computer you can get under 500$?
Q. i need a decent gaming computer under 500$ tell me a good one please. Thanks.

A. To get one for that price you will be better off building your own. And to build a decent gaming computer for under $500 may be a little difficult unless you have some components you may be reusing, such as power supply, case, etc... If you do have a power supply, you need to check the wattage, you need at least a 500w.

What kind of specs do you need for a gaming computer? not hardcore gaming?

Q. Im looking to buy a computer, and i've been researching it on craigslist and yahoo answers and people say that amd or intel are good for gaming. What kind of other specs are also needed to play online games like Counterstrike and Diablo, by the way im not looking for the best of the best parts im not a hardcore gamer just decent stuff :) thanks for your feedback.

A. If you're really on a budget - whichever of those games have the higher demands, I'd say get at LEAST the recommended specs, plus some type of broadband capabilities since you mentioned online play.

However, what is hardcore today will be fairly old news in the near future. So I generally recommend a system with many upgradability options. Of course, again it all depends on your budget. Besides the advancement in add-ons eventually makes things incompatible - so getting something too upgradeable can prove ineffective as well.

Can I use many accounts to participate on yahoo answers different person?
Q. Okay, if in one house got 4 children's and all of them register the yahoo account from same computer on the closing time, all of them log in to yahoo answers on the same computer on different time, will their accounts get terminate?

A. Only one account id can be used on questions and answers. If they each have their own email address, then yes they can. As long as they are not using the accounts to Point Game with each other. That is a fine line, because it shows up as the same isp address. Looks like someone with many accounts.

How do you record sounds from your computer internally?

Q. I wanted to know if there was an application that can record sounds within my computer from games, videos, Voice IMing etc.
Thanks!
teen360

P.S I have a HP computer with Windows 7.

A. Unless you have specific drivers on your sound card to enable it, Windows 7 disables the ability to do this.

I struggled with this for a week before I figured out what was going on. You can read more about the issue here:

http://mapsedge.wordpress.com/2010/11/14/windows-7-what-a-disappointment/

If by some miracle you HAVE the drivers and correct sound card, then you need software like Audacity (available here: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) and change the input setting to "Stereo Mix" or "What U Hear" (depending on the sound card.)

Good luck!

What good jobs can you get with graphic design?
Q. I'm 15 years old but my guidance counselor wants me to start thinking about what i want to do for college. I really like photoshop and i also think working for a video game company would be fun as well. I was just wondering if there were any good jobs that pay well that you use graphic design?

A. The T-Shirt Screen Printing field is an option for any Graphic Designer, and you do not necessarily need any degree at all. Proficiency in Corel Draw and to a lesser extent Photoshop are both important. Also an understanding of how the Screen Printing process works is very useful, as making a design look good when Printing on T-Shirts and other apparel isn't always the same as making it look good on a computer monitor.

There are Screen Printing companies everywhere, from small 1 or 2 person shops to large Printing Warehouses with quite a few artists. I'm not sure if this is appealing to you or not but knowing how many people are in the Graphic Design field and how competitive it can be, as well as the number of independent Screen Printing shops, I think Graphic Designers in general would be well advised to explore this area. As I said, to be a successful Screen Printing Graphic Design Artist you must have some understanding of the Screen Printing process so that the artwork you create will print easily and well. Here's an article that describes some of the Screen Printing Process:

http://shirtartinc.blogspot.com/2010/01/custom-screen-printing-101-how-it-works.html

Here's a forum for some general info:
http://forums.screenprinters.net/

As far as paying well, to a large extent that will depend on how good you are. Graphic Design is a competitive field, and artists historically don't make tons of money, but the really top level Graphic Designers can make a good salary. So if you start learning now you should do well.

Good Luck

Is there a big difference between intel gma 4500 and?

Q. 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530?? There's a big price difference but is it worth the upgrade? I do some minor photo editing and simple games and the usual internet browsing. I will probably be impressed with either since my computer's graphics card is very old and not good but I need help choosing btwn the two! Thanks!

A. If you're not going to be playing graphics intensive games then you won't notice much. If you do play recent first person shooters, etc. then you will notice a massive difference.

For what you're doing just get the 4500MHD. It's cheaper and uses less power.

A. this intel, is it only 4500 or 4500mhd? the first can't be played for high definition(that's what hd stands for) but intel 4500/4500mhd or radeon hd 4530 are classified as class 3.

A good website to Build my own gaming computer?

Q. Im looking to build my own gaming computer, price doesnt matter, i just want to know a solid and reliable site. thanks!

A. Cyberpowerpc.com
Cheap,powerful, great pc's.

Where can i get a no interest down payment on Gaming computer?
Q. I have a pavilion, i don't want 2 go any farther its "sucks" horribly. i mean, its great and all but the video card is more worse then getting piss dribble on your pants. after of years of wanting to play CSS counter-strike source. im looking for low-down payments no-interest gaming computers.
price range "600-700"
thanks

A. Not sure. Chances are, places like Circuit City or Best Buy have deals like that, but it's hard to find if they're not doing a promotion.

What about a layaway deal? Lotus accepts layaway if you want to do it that way. You can pay it slowly until you've fulfilled the balance. They won't send it to you until it's paid in full, but it's a good way to keep yourself from being tempted to use the saved-up money. You can ask them about it here: http://www.lotuspc.net/contact.html

How can I split sound from one PC to two different speaker systems?

Q. I would like to be able to play a game on my computer and get the computer/game sounds on my computer speakers. And at the same time play a movie in Windows Media Player (or similar software) and get only the sound from the movie connected to the TV or an amplifier.

What do I need to make this possible? At the moment I have a computer with an integrated soundcard on my motherboard.

A. I would say buy a Jack splitter at any radio shack, it should be a couple of bucks and set one sound lower than the other.

No sound from my computer speakers.I happened to lose sound the same time I upgraded quicktime audio program?
Q. I lost computer speaker sound.Connections are good. It happened around the same day I took up a window offering to upgrade quicktime, so I did and now nothing from my speakers.any similar experience by anyone else?

A. First make sure your speakers are plugged in and have power to them. Yeah yeah I know but do it anyway. Next check your device manager on your system to make sure that Quick-time did not change your sound card driver.

Right Click MyComputer go to manage then to the Device Manager. Check your sound and game controller there.

If that is good you should have some sound card utility that is installed on your computer make sure that it is set to your sound card as the preferred device.

If that fails then check to make sure your speakers did not go south and will not be coming back from the vacation they decided to go on.
(Plug in a different set into your sound card if you have a set of ear buds you can plug them in directly to the sound card)

If you do not have sound then as a last resort use system restore.

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools then to System Restore. Try to pick a day that was before you lost sound.

OH and above all else turn the knob up just in case someone turned down the volume (turning the volume all the way up you should hear a hissing sound if they are working) OH and if you have a nice speaker setup sometimes they need to be reset unplug the woofer for 30 seconds.

I think I have covered all of the issues that may happen to speakers heres hoping your tunes come back in the next fifteen minutes

Is a usb computer gaming headset compatible with the usb on a PS3?

Q. I am a bout to purchase a computer gaming usb compatible headset for my PS3, and I am wondering if it will work. I know there are usb headsets designed for the PS3, but this one has an audio to usb converter with it. Will it work?

A. ANY usb headset can be used on the PS3. I used my old one until I got bluetooth. You just need to make sure you activate it on the PS3 options.

What is the best processor, mother board, video card, and etc.for computer gaming desktop?
Q. Im planning to put a computer gaming shop business. Please give me advice on whats the most affordable but best set up of computer I can assemble.please be specific.im really not a tech person.

A. It is all very budget dependent. Here is a nice $1000 part set if putting it together yourself, and be sure to watch youtube videos and work on a non-static flat big surface and wear gloves or ground yourself and never force things together.
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/zWjz
CPU Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz 4 cores, 4 threads since gaming does not use hyperthreading nor more than 4 cores.
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106-5.html
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler - a good value for overclocking the CPU. It is tall, but very efficient and priced well.
Asus P8Z77-V LK ATX LGA1155 Motherboard - supports overclocking, and has 2 slots of pciex16 to possibly add a second GPU in SLI at another time for crossfiring instead of replacing the graphics card as you would in a 1 slot system.
G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 The right amount for gaming in the right speed for the CPU and is a good brand 1.5V with heat spreader in CAS 9
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive - fairly reliable bulk storage in a good size of a terrabyte
Sandisk 64GB 2.5" Solid State Disk - to hold Windows and a few games for fast load and top performance. Can use half in partition for Intel RST/SRT HDD acceleration if preferred.
Video Card Galaxy GeForce GTX 660 2GB - Highly rated solid performer. I did not look up its status for SLI vs crossfire
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/660?vs=548
Cooler Master Storm Enforcer ATX Mid Tower Case - Nice looking case with good air flow and roomy. Starts with only 2 fans as adequate, but could add a top fan. There are many good choices of cases. Has USB 2 and 3 and audio ports.
Rosewill Green 630W 80 PLUS Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply
Decent enough as a single rail (one +12V as preferred) with a 6 and 6+2 pcie connector set and since GTX 660 needs only one, should be enough for crossfire one day without changing it. 50A (600 watts) on 12V to power GPU, CPU, fans and disk drives. There are better and worse PSUs but this is surely at least adequate and more.
Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer - any DVDRW
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit)
gamers prefer Win 7
Still need keyboard, mouse, audio output (speakers/headphones), and a display

what are the best business ideas for summer 2013?

Q. I'm 16 years old. I'm First year accountancy student. I live in the Philippines. I just want to know the best summer business/jobs that fits for me. I don't want to spend my time in front of the computer and doing nothing but to read and play computer games so I decided that I want to earn money to help my parents.

A. Working in a shop?
Use a hobby and turn it into money it can work

What do people mean when they say xbox 360 games are upscaled from 720p to 1080p?
Q. Does this still apply to games in 2013? I play games in 720p but i would like to know what people mean when they say this.

A. Essentially the game is stretched from its original 720p to display in 1080p, the best visual demonstration I can think of, is get a picture on your computer, and just make it bigger, this is basically what upscaling is, although of course it is a bit more complicated than that. Upscaling can still improve visual quality on a game to an extent, but generally it makes little difference. A true 1080p game is designed in that resolution to begin with, which gives an over all better visual quality.

Also @Chelsea The only difference between DVD, and bluray is the storage capacity. The reason you need blu ray for movies is because a 1080p movie is a whole lot bigger, and wouldn't fit on a dvd. Yet a short film in 1080p actually would..Don't confuse movies with software, it's very different,. While the textures in a 1080p game obviously use more space, this has no affect on whether or not the Xbox 360 can play native 1080p games. The restriction is xbox 360's gpu, rather than the disc format. PS3 uses a blu ray drive, and very few of its games are 1080p as well. Yet all pc games still come on dvd, while they're installation discs, a PC game will play in much higher resolutions than 1080p if your graphics card is good enough.

What is a good laptop for high school work and itunes under $400?

Q. I'm looking for a laptop that I can use for my homework and my ipod with Itunes. I use this computer for a couple online games and google searchs too. I know nothing about this so what is good to get that will help me accomplish this at walmart for under $400 total?

A. All you can get for under $400, would be a netbook...

What is the the difference between computer types?
Q. Hi everyone! I am about to buy a new desktop pc but are unsure about the different types. I would like one that could run most pc games well (i.e. sims 2 etc!) please could you specify types of computers that will do this (preferably under £400.00). And the graphics of different pc's.
Thanks!

A. Every PC is different.
For gaming... I would recommend an AMD processor.
If you get an Intel... STAY AWAY FROM CELERON. You will like the pricetag, but hate the performance.
At least 1GB of ram... (you need more, but you are trying to stay under 400)
Any decent Nvidia or Ati card will do you well. You need to spend more on this too, but it is a budget killer.

Then get as big as a hard drive as your budget will allow.

Is it possible to build a gaming pc for under a grand?

Q. Is it possible to build a gaming pc for under a grand? This computer will be used from graphic design/multimedia (flash video creation, photoshop, etc.) It will also be playing games such as WoW, Portal 2, and maybe even Crysis 2. Any recommendation on how this could be done would be greatly appreciated. If you believe the system I'm looking for will cost over 1,000 please explain why. And thank you!

A. Yes, It is, IF you choose the right spec and build it your self. And If by "under a grand" you mean under 1000 $, here's my recommendation :

AMD Phenom II X4 955 3,2 ghz
MoBo Biostar TA890GXB
HDD 1TB WD
RAM DDR3 2x2 GB
XFX HD6850 GPU
PSU CORSAIR pure 600W

In total, it's about 8.2 million rupiahs....roughly US$950, includes the chassis, DVD Drive, logitech Mouse+Keyboard & logitech Speaker. US$1070 with windows 7 home premium. (Excluding the Monitor)

Yeah maybe that price is a bit...high, but you'll be able to play heavy games like crysis 2 on full HD and high settings without lags or something like that.

Also, these I got these price from a local store here in Indonesia. You might be able to find cheaper ones online, or where you live.

How much does a good gaming PC cost, and what is the best kind?
Q. Hi, I really want Portal 2, but I hate using our XBox so I want it for PC, unfortunately neither of my parents will allow me to put it on their computers, so I'm looking to buy a quality gaming PC. I need to know how much a good one will cost, as well as what brand I should buy. Any ideas? Plz help!!!

A. It really depends on what you plan to do with your gaming PC

Do you want GOOD, GREAT or the BEST?

A GOOD gaming PC should cost about 600$. This is enough to go on mostly high settings at a mainstream resolution. Basically a normal home computer but with a dedicated GFX card.

A GREAT gaming PC should cost about 1000$. This is what you'd get if you want to use a single monitor and play games on their highest settings at a high resolution. You'll either use 1 top-of-the-line card or 2 midrange cards working together, and you'll want a pretty good processor.

The BEST gaming PC should cost above 1500$. This is for people who use multi-monitor displays, 3D effects, or absurdly high resolutions. Prepare to purchase multiple graphics cards, at least 2 high-performance hard drives (for RAID 0), a sound card, and liquid cooling systems.

BUT REMEMBER, THIS IS ONLY FOR THE PC TOWER COST: YOU STILL NEED TO BUY A MONITOR, MOUSE, KEYBOARD, AND OPERATING SYSTEM! I personally spent 350$ on those (200$ monitor, 100$ OS, 20$ keyboard and 30$ mouse) you may also want to buy headphones, so keep those in mind too.

If all you want the PC for is to play Portal 2 and maybe some MMORPGs, then go with Good. if you plan to get into Steam and build your library, go Great. If you have too much money on your hands and want to surround yourself with the best, go...Best.

What computer is best to play the Sims 3 on?

Q. I am in the market to buy a new computer. I have a laptop that I am currently using to play The Sims 2 on and it works OK but I want something faster.

I want to buy The Sims 3 when it comes out but I'm not sure what type of computer would be best to buy. I'm sure any gaming computer would be good but I don't know to much about them.

I already have a monitor, keyboard, mouse and speakers so I just need to buy the tower. Help???

Thanks!

A. If you can play Sims 2 ok, likely you can run Sims 3 as well. As long as your computer is purchased somewhere 2004 and beyond. Sims games don't take much, unless you want tip top performance for Sims 3. But if your'e just going to play Sims 3, it won't be worth it to get a gaming computer. If you do want a new comp, look for deals on cheap towers at frys or best buys for $2-300 and it should runs sim3 fine.

The full Sims 3 minimum requirements follow:

PC/Desktop, XP Service Pack 2:

* Processor: Pentium IV 2.0 GHz / Athlon XP 2000+
* Memory: 1 GB
* GeForce FX 5900 / Radeon 9500
* Graphics RAM: 128 MB

Laptop, XP Service Pack 2:

* Processor: Pentium IV 2.0 GHz / Athlon XP 2000+
* Memory: 1.5 GB
* GeForce Go 6200 / Radeon mobile 9600
* Graphics RAM: 128 MB

What is the best gaming computer I can get for under 550?
Q. I have $550 dollars only to spend on a good gaming computer. One that can play Skyrim and Sims 3 on high graphics. Does anyone know of the best one out there for $550?
I am not making one, it is not the right thing for me.

A. Shirley, the best gaming computer you can buy for cheap is one that you build yourself. Building a computer yourself will save you money and will allow you to buy better parts for less money. Newegg is holding a great components sale:

http://promotions.newegg.com/NEPro/BackToSchool/shop2.html

Also remember that when you buy computers from outlets such as Dell and HP, they will factory install crapware on your PC (help center programs, useless backup software, etc.) that will slow your computer down. Building a computer will allow you to have a computer that doesn't have those programs that will bloat your CPU usage.

What does it mean if your laptop continues to freeze if your are watching a movie on itunesor playing a game?

Q. What does it mean if your laptop continues to freeze if your are watching a movie on itunesor playing a computer game. My laptop keeps freezing when i am about 20mins into a movie in itunes or playing a computer game. What should i do/ what can i do to fix it?

A. It means your computer is not powerful enough to do what you are doing. Stop running so many programs/processes. Don't use Itunes, it is a huge system resource hog. I would never install Itunes on a computer. There are alternatives out there. For playing movies, I would suggest VLC. It is a more effecient program. With the games, you're sol. Clean up you computer. Read articles on increasing your computers performance.

Good Luck.

Cheers,
Gitlez

Is it safe to upload older computer games onto a new laptop?
Q. I have some old computer games from 8 years ago I used to play on a desktop, but would like to play it again. Is it ok for my new laptop to play them on it?

A. depending on the Operating System (OS) it won't let you run it even in compatibility mode.
if it's designed for XP you should be fine but, 2000 or earlier you may run into trouble playing it but, your in almost ZERO risk of damaging your computer.

if you do run into trouble I can probably help you get it playable anyway but, only way to find out is to install it and find out

How many watts of power will I need for my gaming computer?

Q. This summer I plan on building my own gaming PC and assembling it at home because it is cheaper and I like to customize things myself. It is an 850 dollar computer but the specs are exceptional. For the motherboard and processor, I am following a YouTube tutorial. In the YouTube video it says only 500 watts of power are needed, but in the comment section somebody (who was picked for best answer) claims that you actually need at least 630. I am planning on getting a 750 watt battery anyways, but if I don't need to, I'll try and get something cheaper. So how much power will I need based on this setup:

A. 500W (or greater) power supply with one 75W 6-pin PCI Express power connector recommended

http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/7000/7850/Pages/radeon-7850.aspx#2

Thus, for a system with a single HD7850, a good branded 600W PSU is the ideal one to get and since your mobo does not support crossfire, then that 750W is too much for that build since Xfire is already not possible.

BTW, for Xfire, amd recommends 600W minimum, thus 700W is the ideal one to have (just an added info).

How good will my computer run?
Q. Im building my own computer and I am trying to keep it under 750, as of right now Im planning on getting Intel Core i3-3220, Western Digital Caviar Blue 500 GB Hard drive, MSI R7850 Twin Frozr, FSP Group RAIDER 550W power supply, G.SKILL Value Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin memory, and ASRock Z77 Extreme4. Is there something I should replace or would this be a good model? And how would it run the new games like Crysis 3 or Battlefield 3?

A. Let me tell you i have recently answered a question similar to this being that the person also wanted a system around $700. If i were you i would go for the intel i7 3770k for $240 from microcenter and the radeon hd 7970 from ebay running at $350 both great computer parts that should last you a long time. And most importantly in your budget. If you look for special deals you can find a 1tb internal hard drive for $80 possible 7200rpm. The motherboard should be perfect if you do decide on the 7970 or a 7950 with the intel i7 3770k. Plus if you wanted to upgrade another 7900 series gpu it would be simple and not a hassle of buying another board.

How much money do each of these computer parts cost on average?

Q. How much would these computer parts cost if they are decent parts that are popular today?

motherboard (preferably Intel)
RAM (2GB-4GB)
CPU
graphics card (not the best, but a decent one)
power supply

Thanks for the help!

A. There are dozens of price comparison sites and hundreds of products available ...

Unless you are building your own 'Super Powerful' Games Machine, I REALLY advise you to purchase a fully built PC = it's always a LOT cheaper to buy the whole thing in one box than to buy each individual part = the Operating System License alone is likely to cost you more than the hardware = you can easily pay £100 - £150 for a VISTA Home license .. PC manufacturers, such as Dell, buy in bulk from Microsoft and pay less than £10 a box ..

Right now you can bet there will be dozens of bargains at your local computer store ..

Why does the screen flash when I try to play a new computer game just installed?
Q. I've been playing the Nancy Drew computer games for a while now, and recently I've installed some of the newer games. They will install completely and the sound is fine, but the video part flashes or blinks. I heard that I might need to update my video card. I downloaded an update from my manufacturers website, but the video still doesn't work. Do I need to open the new file into a certain program to get it started?

A. Modern games require modern video cards to run properly. In fact, you need a good dedicated video card (if you haven't) from a manufacturer like nvidia or ati.
Which games do you have installed?

How to install a computer game to a netbook from a PC without using the game disc?

Q. I recently purchased The Sims 2 Double Deluxe computer game. I was wondering, is there is anyway, after you install it on the PC, to transfer that installed data on my netbook? My netbook does not have a disc slot and I want to play the game there. If there is any possible way to do so, without using the disc it would be great to know.
Thanks.
I was wondering how you would work the external drive, I have one but how would you transfer data onto it?

A. If the computers are on the same network you can install using the desktop's cd/dvd drive. Just share the cd/dvd drive on your desktop, put the the disk in, and use your netbook to navigate to the share. Run the setup and you will have it installed on your netbook.

How do I improve the graphics in my computer games without the games slowing down?
Q. I've recently been delving into a lot of computer games. The only problem is i have turn down the quality of the visuals quite a bit in order for the games to run smoothly. I was wondering if there was a way to improve my computer's visual capabilities.

A. It really depends on a few different things.

First off, there are two different types of video hardware - onboard (or integrated) video, or dedicated video (video card). Onboard video is limited - it's not really made for heavy gaming. Onboard video uses system memory, which is generally slower than memory chips on a dedicated card, and is usually limited by the system BIOS in how much memory can be made available. Dedicated video (i.e. a video card) generally has much more available memory, and a faster video CPU.

With either setup, one of the best improvements (and free) is to make sure you have the latest drivers from the manufacturer. Newer drivers can often make a huge difference. Sometimes, with Windows, the drivers in use may not actually be manufacturer drivers, but stock Windows drivers, which are horrible for any kind of gaming. If the PC uses integrated video, increasing the RAM allocated to the video system in the BIOS setup may help, at the cost of available memory to the PC.

The best part though - video cards are cheap performance upgrades. Even a cheap video card will be better (by far) than most integrated video chips. If there is already a dedicated card, upgrades are cheap and easy.

It depends on the age of the PC, but there are basically 3 different types of video card - PCI, AGP, or PCI Express. If the PC is within 7 years old (give or take), it's likely an AGP or PCI Express setup. Either way, the best (easiest) place to find a card is probably Newegg.com

Hope that helps,
Jason

What are good and cheap computers that play CoD: World at War and Team fortress 2 good?

Q. It can be up to 700 dollars.
A PC btw not a laptop

A. Laptop or PC?

To run all the modern games today you need intel i5 > 2.5 GHZ boost up to 3.0+ GHZ (Or AMD equivalent), and a graphic card > Nvidia 9600M-GT or AMD Radeon HD 6470M and above.
The 1 GIG or 2 GIG GT640M appears to be a decent mobile video card.
Oh and 6 GIG 1333MHZ/1600MHZ DDR3 RAM, although you can add this your self.

Is it bad to play a computer game while my laptop is charging?

Q. I have a MacBook Pro laptop and it charges much much slower when I play my computer game, The Sims 3, and charge it at the same time. I have only done this once or twice, but I wonder if it is bad for my computer and if it will make the battery life shorter?

A. the reason it charges slower is because you are using some of the power that is being charged into while it is being charged. i use my laptop all the time when it is charging and nothing bad has happened yet.

Is it safe to upload older computer games onto a new laptop?
Q. I have some old computer games from 8 years ago I used to play on a desktop, but would like to play it again. Is it ok for my new laptop to play them on it?

A. depending on the Operating System (OS) it won't let you run it even in compatibility mode.
if it's designed for XP you should be fine but, 2000 or earlier you may run into trouble playing it but, your in almost ZERO risk of damaging your computer.

if you do run into trouble I can probably help you get it playable anyway but, only way to find out is to install it and find out

http://best-gaming-computers.blogspot.com/2011/03/66999-titanium-gamer-am6020-gaming.html

or

Systemax BlackOps PC for $749.99

I suggest building a custom gaming computer, you get better specs and save lots of money. It's not very hard if you know what are you doing.

Why do people get so retarded when a new video game console comes out?

Q. Don't get me wrong, I like video and computer games as much as the next person and I don't mean to judge anyone. I just cannot think of anything that I would need that badly. I just do not see the point in having anything, let alone a game console, the VERY FIRST DAY that it is publicly available. Please enlighten me as to the importance of sleeping outside of Walmart, getting robbed or shot in a drive by while waiting outside of Walmart, getting trampled on the way into the store to make this purchase. Oh wait, is it to get the "freaks" out of the way so the normal people can get it whenever the store gets the next shipment or next year when it’s $200 cheaper and the “freaks” are gearing up for the next console release?

A. Well I think you answered your own question-- the are Dee Da Dee ....

Although I have seen news stories where people are buying the consoles for $2000 online.

Whats a good laptop for music and gaming and under 400$?

Q. Please be under 400 and i want it for music and gaming, please help.
I only want to play games like runescape and simple music like itunes.

A. emachine is pretty good. My little sister has had one for over two years now and it still works great, even after all the downloads and cD's she has put on it. They are decently fast and I used hers until i got my own laptop. Whatever you do don't get HP they are soooo slow and break with even the slightest trauma.
You should also look into acers, I have a PC and a laptop acer both are fast and affordable. They are still fast running after games are installed and downloaded as well as music.
Prices!!
Acer laptop was around $300-$400
emachine was around $200

I hope my prior experience with laptops has helped you. It's good to know i didn't waste so much money on these computers and help no one.

I need a recommendation of a good computer gaming computer setup, help please?

Q. Let's say I have a budget of 1800 dollars Canadian (1700 dollars US). How good a gaming computer could I get for that amount or money? And I need somebody to give me some actual parts, like the CPU, memory and graphics card.

A. - Intel Core 2 Duo 2.7 Ghz and above (must have)
- Nividia GeForce Graphics Card (choose a good one with discrete memory)
- OS: Windows XP Pro SP2 (better for games, not Vista!!!)
- at least 1 GB Ram
- 17" or 19" LCD monitor
- a gamer mouse (try FX 7)

What and where is the best custom built gaming computer?
Q. I can surf the web for hours and hours looking for the right gaming computer. I would like to know what setup is the BEST for $1300 and under! I would want to be able to play Skyrim on full settings and be able to enjoy modding as well. I currently have a macbook pro that I use for video and music editing and I've played games like fallout on it with some ease, and a mac is NOT a gaming computer. So i know there has to be some great computers out there that are not $3,000. I've looked into Cyberpower PC's and they look promising, but i've also read alot of bad reviews about the parts they use. Anywho any help or tips on this subject would be greatly appreciated.
Building my own is definitely an option. Best parts? best price? Is building your own exceptionally easy if you know electronics? ( have fixed Xbox 360, PS3 )

A. Have you thought of building one .
CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($229.99 @ Newegg)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($32.99 @ Newegg)

What should i buy a netbook or a notebook computer?

Q. Please help me to choose, bet. Buying a netbook or a notebook computer. Which one is best to buy?

A. A net book is for simple use. It has no DVD/CD drive, less memory, storage and usually a dummied down OS or an ancient one like XP.

Laptop/notebooks are much better. You can do almost anything but heavy gaming on a laptop. They have DVD/CDs, more memory and a modern OS like Windows 7.

Is it Possible To Play a downloaded version of Spore On a Notebook Computer?

Is there a computer without internet access?

Q. Im looking for a computer system without internet access and can only play computer games. The reason I dont want internet access because I figuire it would be cheaper and all my kids want to do is play computer games.

A. I think all computers come with a modem now, but you can ask around.

If you know anyone who knows a lot about computers, you can ask them to "build" one for you.

Dell and HP both have websites where you can get a real basic computer without any frills for about $350, however if you really want a customized computer, go to Tiger Direct. You will need to know a lot about computer hardware. If you don't, try to think of a friend who knows enough about them to help you out. They have a website, but they also have outlet stores, so check out the website and to see if they have a store near you. There is a "bare bones" kit on their website that is only $159, but it doesn't include a CD/DVD drive (which you need to load the games onto the computer) and it doesn't include a monitor (which you need to see and actually play the games). It also doesn't include a keyboard or mouse, and you will need one or the other, or both, to play the game as well.

If I were you, I'd check out a basic computer on line, or even at Walmart. If you are okay with a used computer, do a google seach for refurbished computers, or check out Craigslist.org or eBay.com. If you buy from a private owner, you might want to take it to a computer repair place to make sure that any "offensive" files that may have been left behind are removed before your kids have access to it.

Any good lists of what a teenage girl should bring on a plane trip?

Q. I'm 14 years old, I'll be visiting my grandparents for about 2 months. I'll be coming from Portland Oregon to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I need a good list of things to bring, For like the weather, how much makeup etc etc. A list, suggestions and some tips for teenagers traveling alone as an unaccompanied minor would be great.
Thank you so much. Have a good day :)

A. Most of the things you had asked, I am able to answer them and the other things I will give suggestions for.

First of you need to find out what Airline you are going to travel on. Then you will want to think of this too, having Frequent Flier Miles and seeing if you can start getting those are your age. If not for your mom or dad to acquire them so any time you travel it would add to that.

Which means you can bump up to business class or get other perks later on or at least discounts on future flights. Also means when you are signed up for such things when you fly on another airline if they are partnered with several airlines you can claim those miles too.

Make sure when you do fly that you tell them that you are not with any adults some times the airlines will give you extra attention. Not flown with any children and for myself when I was younger. They use to let me sit in business class for free so they can keep a better eye on me.

As for the clothes bring enough that you are not washing them every 2-3 days that would be rather annoying. If you know or think that your Grandparents will buy you some clothes then are you planning to leave them there for next time you are visiting? Or do you plan to bring them back home? If yes to bringing home then you need to leave some space in your luggage to take things back with you. I would recommend bringing three pieces of luggage one to carry-on and the other two for check-in.

Depending on the airline to weather they will charge you for bringing so many pieces on a Domestic flight. Some have those hidden fee's on luggage's, blankets, headsets and several other things. You are not allowed to bring any open containers into the Airport or any foods either. You can buy those once you are inside there and bring on-board the flight.

If you have any things you are embarrassed about such as panties or thongs or lace or medicines for your health or skin care. Then you might want to consider packing those items into a luggage that you will check-in. Carry-on luggage is randomly opened and checked, therefore some body can see such items. Your purse or hand-bag and laptop/notebook is not considered one of the carry-on items.

Recommendations enough clothes for 7-10 days before you have to wash clothes again. The clothes should be at least 1-2 dresses, 3 shorts, and jeans. With tops that vary from short to long sleeve V neck and round necks too. Tha way if you go anyway you are most likely dressed for the right occasion. Of course bring shoes, socks, and under wear. Bring tooth brush, tooth paste, feminine hygiene products, hair brush, PSP or other game device, kotex or other related products, shampoo, conditioner, perfume, and makeup.

Game systems can be played during the flight and while you are waiting for your boarding. Because you will have to get there about 90mins before the flight time. Reasons are Security and you have to be there 20mins before the flight time. So if your itinerary says 11AM Departure then that flight starts Boarding 20mins before then that would be 10:40AM and you need time to go from outside the Airport all the way to the Gateway.

Some airlines let you do online all the steps before you go and you just walk up there and show them your flight information that you printed from your home computer. Others do not allow you to do that and that means it takes more time to wait in line for doing what you could have done at home. This is done to confirm you are taking the flight in case you either forgot to go or had a change in travel plans.

Some airlines are colder than others and you would want to start with a short sleeve and have a hoodie or jacket to keep you warm nothing to heavy. Make sure if you wear sandals to have socks on so your feet are not cold.

Recommend that you use http://www.seatguru.com it would really help you pick out the seats so you are seated in a good area. Some seats are nosier than others and some have a box under the seat in front of you. That means you can not stretch out and enjoy the flights and yes because you want to buy a round trip ticket so its less money.

I am sure that if you run out that your Grandmother would be more than happy to replace the items for you. That and enjoy going out shopping it would remind her of being a young girl again.

Search online see what things they have there to do, since you are there might as well go sight seeing and watch the local Cinema's that they have. Talk with your Grandparents see if they want to go any where maybe they have plans.

To check on the weather you can use Farmers Almanac and Weather Channel websites.
http://www.farmersalmanac.com/ & http://www.weather.com/

Just added this....
Depending on the length of the flight there could be drinks & snacks or drinks and food. Also swallowing does help to open your ears and opening your mouth really fast also helps to pop your ears. You will need to do that if you have trouble hearing. Nothing to worry about this is normal and remember if you have more questions you can ask the Flight Attendants.

If no portable game systems or iPod Touch/iPhone to play then read a book it will help pass the time.

Suggestion.. Airline might want your mom or dad to walk in with you to prove they have given their okay for you to fly over. That way you are not marked as "a run away" then that would open up a big mess to straighten out.

Remember to pick best answer, thanks!

Is it necessary to purchase additional things when buying a laptop?
Q. Do you really need to get an anti-virus system for a laptop?
And what other additional things do I really need that would benefit me later on?

thanks!

A. In terms of extra gear you might want to consider:
1. A Mouse (Possibly wireless. Logitech v450 Nano)
Nowadays, the battery life is very good. If you get some of the new laser mice (not to be mistaken with optical mice), you won't need a mousepad since they work on pretty much any surface. I tried it on pure white printer paper; it worked fine. Using the mouse is much easier than navigating the touchpad.

2. Earphones/Express Sound Card
You might want to get some Earphones/Headsets for when you want to listen to music without the speakers. I have to tell you, though, not to buy a "ultra high quality super expensive" sets because the Laptop sound card is pretty basic and doesn't give you the top-notch sound. You might have great earphones, but the computer can't do much with a mediocre sound card. If you want great sound, you should invest in an Expresscard Sound Card (Creative Soundblaster is a good brand).

3. Antivirus/Microsoft Office/Other Software
These are always nice to have. If you need to type something up, you have Office there ready for you. Antivirus makes your computer safer by keeping bugs, viruses, and spyware out of your system. Also, if you look online, there are a lot of nifty media software and tools out there if you need them. Be sure to ask someone who knows a bit about what software is safe before you install.

4. A Printer
Sometimes, you just need some directions or a sheet of work printed out. Usually, you can just plug your old printer in and it will work fine.

5. External Hard Drive/Portable Memory (WesternDigital MyPassport [250GB to 500GB])
These are pretty much drives that are the size of a 3x5 index card but stores at least 62x more data than your little 4GB USB flash drive, even though it works the same way. Great little item that's not that expensive - a great place to backup your data or have a little extra space for whatever you need. If you feel you don't need quite that much space, a classic thumbdrive would be good for you.

6. Carrying Case
If you plan on using your laptop on the go a lot, consider getting a carrying case. If you find a nice backpack or bag, it would serve well as your carrying case. Plus, a backpack has a ton of extra pockets for everything else you might bring with you (like mouse, power cord, flashdrives, etc.)! If you find that you need a backpack for your stuff and a separate carrying case for your laptop, then get one.

7. Backup/Upgraded Battery
If you don't think you'll be around power plugs often, then you might consider getting an extra/the upgraded battery so that the laptop will last longer.

Other things:
1. Cooling Pad
You don't really need a cooling pad if you're not going to be playing games. It should be fine as long as you make sure you don't cover the fan opening while you use it.

2. Router with Wireless Signal
If you don't want to be wired down to the ethernet cable at home, consider one of these. Even so, it may be even more reliable and faster if you just get an ethernet cable and plug your laptop in the way you would plug in your desktop computer.
