I have a windows 7. Where can i get a controller to play computer games on for my computer?

Q. It sucks using the keyboard to play computer games. Where can i get a controller?

A. http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-360-Controller-Windows/dp/B004QRKWLA

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-940-000110-Gamepad-F310/dp/B003VAHYQY/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1331819629&sr=1-1

And by the way if your playing shooting games a mouse is way way more accurate than any controller. Serious counsel gamers even buy adapters to put into there xbox to allow keyboard and mouse.

What computer games right have the highest system requirements?
Q. What computer games right have the highest system requirements?

What is that system requirements?

What is the average and highest fps fo all computer games? (high and low system requirements games)

A. What you need:

-A dual core or quad core pentium or AMD (I like
AMD, but pentium is good too).
-2 gigs of DDR2 Ram
-Raided 10000 RPM hard drives. Size is up to you, but bigger is better for storage purposes. The RPM's are the important thing though, and RAID 0 bumps the speed to something fierce.
-NVidea 6800 ultra or better for a graphics card. A dual set up for card is nice, but not strictly necessary.
-450 watt power supply.
-Compatible motherboard (I like Asus better than Abit)
-A 1600-2400 Dpi mouse (noticeable difference there)
-A light-up keyboard so you can play in the dark.
-Soundblaster Audigy w/ speakers & subwoofer.
-Lian Li (or other) case
-Enough fans to keep that SOB cool

You'll be able to play FEAR, Oblivion, Crysis or Far Cry 2 at full optimization AND run a virus scan in the background. No joke man.

Have fun :)

Edit: And definitely go with a lower GHZ dual/quad core over a higher GHZ singlecore. The dual thread architecture is superior in every way, game manufacturers are starting to exploit that.

What would help a kid refusing to go to school return to school?

Q. My 8th grade brother has been refusing to go to school or do his homework and instead opting for video games. All of his grades are Fs, and I'm worried about him. My mom has had to call the police three times to make him go, and twice they had to come to our house. Almost every day, my mom is late to work, and her boss is very frustrated with her. She has taken away his video games, computer, and iPad privileges countless times, yet he decides to steal his computer/TV monitors back every time. I'm worried because occasionally my brother gets violent and hits my mom - it's not hard; it's fairly weak slapping. My mom can't be continually late, because she CAN NOT lose this job. I need to figure out a way to help my brother go to school and do his homework. Please help.
@ Wild Dingo: I've tried already, but he just gets greedy after a couple weeks and demands more money.

A. Your mom is lying. He hits her hard sometimes. Forget school, make sure he doesn't grow up to be a jerk who hits women. But don't go to the police, they'll just ruin his life. Get some juvenile rehab. Or a school counselor. Or call in some family or friends at church, particularly a guy older than him who likes video games. To see him regularly.

Also, take ALL of his video games. Hide them OUTSIDE of the house like with a neighbor or friend. Then threaten to sell them if he keeps on abusing the privilege of HAVING them.

How much would a good gaming computer cost to build?

Q. I'm not asking for a monster gaming computer that would cost around $3000. I'm talking about a suitable one that can get atleast 45 fps on first person shooters with max graphics. I've seen some good ones for $600, but I'm willing to spend $1000 - $1500.

A. When doing perfect shopping, using Newegg for Avatar, CyberpowerPC, iBuypower brands and willing to change out the power supply, the savings versus build your own is often very small, especially for the ones they cut in price because of customer dissatisfaction about what they bought.

In building your own, I believe it is best to use the addage, plan twice and cut once. It should take a lot more time to figure out what to get, then the mechanical processes of ordering and assembling and install and test. You should be willing to learn about each component available, and that also allows future upgrade and repair and issue resolving to be much easier, and avoiding those future potentials.

You have the ability to decide your goals.
- Highest gaming performance per dollar spent
- Aiming performance towards particular games and function needs. Some need strong CPUs and Crysis-3 seems to use hyperthreading and all the cores(even 8 core) where most other use only 4 cores or less. Video editing takes a strong CPU+RAM and a solid state drive. Internet speed takes an SSD to improve it by the cache storage.
- Quality, stability, reliability
- Upgradability - ease of upgrade - (It costs more for a proper 2 PCIe x 16 motherboard and better power supply than you need up-front and the better air flow of a good case, but it allows a simple add of a second graphics card in crossfire/SLI). CPU sets the motherboard options, setting up the CPU upgrade options.
- Appearance, aesthetics inside and out

You need to hone down exactly what you want to spend within about $50, and if you want more help from hardware guys like me, you will have to name particular games more than a category. Are you ONLY interested in first person shooter games, or might you expand to others.

Pre-built PCs often use the cheapest power supplies and motherboards, and your advantage in building your own is choosing better parts that won't cause issues.
You can get a great gaming PC probably about GTX 770 and intel core i5 overclocked with a good motherboard and SSD towards the top end of your price that would be a tier one gaming pc with ultra play. The monitor/display is very key also. Is that included in your price, and keyboard and mouse and speakers, headset, etc. You need to list what is included.
Parts compatibility and optimizing is key. In PCPARTPICKER you can share a link to a part list and ask for improvements with a price in mind. They have sample builds, so I'll skip that minor task here for now. I preferred to give you the meat of the process. Watch youtube videos about the construction and take digital photos of an inside of an existing pc to be able to duplicate it.

What parts should i use to make a good gaming computer?
Q. I just would like some help picking out the components, ie. cases processors, ram, graphics cards, power supply, cooling components, disc drives, hard drives, and a video card with hdmi output, and a wireless card. Feel free to add anything...my budget is about 1500 dollars.

A. First of all don't even think about jumping into SLI or Crossfire without doing your research. A gaming machine designed just for gaming should be built around just that. Spend your cash on the graphics cards and work your budget for everything else around that. A fresh Nvidia GTX 295 or ATI Radeon HD 5870 is gonna cost you a little under 500$ still leaving a very healthy 1000$ budget for your other parts. Next order of business would be the power supply, a GTX 295 or ATI 5870 will draw stupidly huge amounts of electricity at full tilt so consider dropping at least 100$ on a quality 750watt+ power supply like a silencer quad or a Corsair TX series.

Next you want to consider your processor and motherboard, you do not need a Core i7 EE for gaming it just isn't necessary in fact you don't even need a quad which will likely chew your budget up like beef jerky, most games do not symmetrically thread across more than 2 cores so a 300$ processor isn't a necessity and the same goes for the board that you plug it into. I bought a Asus P5QL pro from tiger for less than 130$ and it is a incredibly feature rich board for the low cost mated with a Core 2 e7400 or e8400 will yield great results on the cheap. My last build I used a NZXT Apollo which can be had for less than 80$, it is easily the superior case to even my much bigger and more expensive full tower case.

RAM is a tough decision on your part. You can keep this fairly cheap by picking RAM that isn't rated for higher clocks than what it will run under normal circumstances by default will likely net you great savings however it will require to restrict RAM speeds and timings in any overclocking endeavor for an informed customer that is like a death sentence. A e7400 will overclock over 400Mhz with a stock cooler and still stay below 60C which is a pretty noteworthy performance boost, specially for free. Crucial and OCZ make a few kits that aren't insanely expensive and overclock quite nicely.

What is the best processor, mother board, video card, and etc.for computer gaming desktop?

Q. Im planning to put a computer gaming shop business. Please give me advice on whats the most affordable but best set up of computer I can assemble.please be specific.im really not a tech person.

A. It is all very budget dependent. Here is a nice $1000 part set if putting it together yourself, and be sure to watch youtube videos and work on a non-static flat big surface and wear gloves or ground yourself and never force things together.
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/zWjz
CPU Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz 4 cores, 4 threads since gaming does not use hyperthreading nor more than 4 cores.
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106-5.html
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler - a good value for overclocking the CPU. It is tall, but very efficient and priced well.
Asus P8Z77-V LK ATX LGA1155 Motherboard - supports overclocking, and has 2 slots of pciex16 to possibly add a second GPU in SLI at another time for crossfiring instead of replacing the graphics card as you would in a 1 slot system.
G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 The right amount for gaming in the right speed for the CPU and is a good brand 1.5V with heat spreader in CAS 9
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive - fairly reliable bulk storage in a good size of a terrabyte
Sandisk 64GB 2.5" Solid State Disk - to hold Windows and a few games for fast load and top performance. Can use half in partition for Intel RST/SRT HDD acceleration if preferred.
Video Card Galaxy GeForce GTX 660 2GB - Highly rated solid performer. I did not look up its status for SLI vs crossfire
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/660?vs=548
Cooler Master Storm Enforcer ATX Mid Tower Case - Nice looking case with good air flow and roomy. Starts with only 2 fans as adequate, but could add a top fan. There are many good choices of cases. Has USB 2 and 3 and audio ports.
Rosewill Green 630W 80 PLUS Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply
Decent enough as a single rail (one +12V as preferred) with a 6 and 6+2 pcie connector set and since GTX 660 needs only one, should be enough for crossfire one day without changing it. 50A (600 watts) on 12V to power GPU, CPU, fans and disk drives. There are better and worse PSUs but this is surely at least adequate and more.
Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer - any DVDRW
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit)
gamers prefer Win 7
Still need keyboard, mouse, audio output (speakers/headphones), and a display

Which is the cheapest gaming motherboard to buy ?
Q. Hi guys this is chintan.
I am going to setting up a game zone at my cuber cafe.
I need help.
Which is the cheapest gaming motherboard that i should buy for my 10 PCs ?

A. It depends on what processors they have in them. More specifically it depends which processor socket they have. AM2, AM2+, AM3, AM3+, LGA 775, LGA 1156, LGA 1366, LGA 1155?

Scout around on different websites and look for deals, read reviews to make sure they aren't junk, and compare prices.

Try Newegg.com, Amazon.com, TigerDirect.com, Frys.com, Overstock.com, Buy.com. eBay.com, or do some searches online.

I'm going to say it again - on any cheap or discount computer item READ REVIEWS.

What's a good, cheap desktop computer (for gaming) under $1000?

Q. I'm looking for a good desktop computer (no laptops please) that's under $1000.
It should be able to run bf2 at max settings, that being the most intensive game. Building my own is not an option so please don't suggest I do that.
If building one is really the best option I'll consider it, but right now i'd just like to hear if there are any decent pre-built ones out there.

A. There are plenty good gaming computers for under $1000 and they offer really good benefits for those who did not build computers before. Like overclock, support, simply a phone call that will solve all problems....
Check this computers below - it has the best current CPU i5 2500K overclocked to 4.0GHz and at that speed it has not rivals. Also it comes with excellent video card Nvidia GTX 460 1GB that will be enough for all games out there. Perfect RAm size 4GB with upgrades later as needed, really good case and power supply. It also has free shipping and 3 year warranty. If you want something cheaper - check AMD Phenom X4 955 based models.

What's the best desktop computer for me to buy?
Q. I'm looking for a new computer. I want to spend under $1000 dollars for the best desktop computer for gaming. Is there any quality units out there for the price that can hook up to my tv via VGA cable, as well as run on very low wifi with no difficulty? Thanks for any help!

A. I am not working for them (and i do not play games) , but a few years ago i prayerfully found what i believe was the best deal on PCs at Computerlx.com (AllPCZone): http://www.computerlx.com/products.aspx?category_ID=136

Scroll down and choose a model and customize, research parts. Get at least 4mb ram and a mobo that handles 16GB+ and at least a dual core 3.2ghz or more CPU, and up the power supply to an Antec 400 or more.

You will get Far more value there, plus lifetime good tech support by phone, versus the 1 year India tech with some many others.

Other useful tool are: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html

http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/cpu/

Pray and press! And use it for good in God's will thru Jesus.

How would I combine tv and computer speakers onto headphones?
Q. I'd like to be able to play computer games and watch tv (at the same time) even when my fiancee goes to bed early without bothering her. How do I combine the two signals so that I can listen to them on headphones?

Keep in mind I need to be able to control their respective volumes and be able to switch back to regular speakers without too much hassle.

I'm sure there are a bunch of audiophiles out there who can handle this sort of thing no problem.

A. What you need is called a "mixer". It can take several inputs, mix them together an create one output. It has individual volume controls for each input. Here is an example of one that would probably work for you....

How do I make my computer faster?

Q. I want to play this PC game F1 2012 but my computer laggs way to much. My computer is fast on the internet, but why not the pc games?

I am in seventh grade, so please make the answer clear to me so I can understand it. It could help if you have a step by step answer!

A. If you want to play games on your pc you are going to need RAM and Processor Speed.

RAM is like the workbench for your computer, the more RAM you have the more it can handle.
A regular gaming PC has a minimum of 4 GB of RAM but more RAM can help the game run smoother.

Processor speed is the amount of information it can carry out in a second and is usually at least 2 GHz for a gaming PC.

Memory for the game is important too, make sure you have enough space on the disk for the game.

Hope I helped. :)

Q. My ex gf made me a computer to play games with her in sept 2012, i got rid of my laptop so i could save money on the payments. We broke up and she wants to take it back. Can she legally?

A. If it was a gift, then no. If it was not a gift, then yes. If she built it so you could play games but didn't tell you it was a gift, there's a chance she could get it back through legal means.

what is the electronic music played in between the contestants of Miss America 2010, during the talent part.?

Q. During the 2010 miss america contest, they played a few brief seconds of electronic/techno music ( kind of reminds of the music on Eufloria, an awesome computer game ). During the talent competition ( right about halfway through the program ) in between each contestant, they played this totally awesome music. I want to know what it is.

how can I develop a computer game?
Q. I have a computer game in my mind but do not know how to make it a reality.I have everything plan of the game.

A. C# is a easy to learn language. Download Visual C# express 2010(free of cost!) -> then learn that language
Finally download Microsoft XNA Game Studio(free of cost) and start developing games!(for Windows)
________________________________________________________________

You should know, the platform, like you want to develop games for like you want to develop games for Play Stations or Microsoft X-Box or for iPod, Internet or Windows or Android or Nokia, Mac, Windows Phone, rather a very long list
I'm a Windows Programmer, so I can tell you only about Microsoft or its product
Microsoft supports itself, so its better if you develop for Microsoft

_________________________________________________________________
Also dont want to discourage you, but tell you the truth, Complex programs are developed of hundreds of ""**Super-Brilliant**"" people working together, It involves the work of 3-D Graphics Developers, programmers, data analyst, etc Games like GTA cannot be developed by me or you alone
So I give you an idea,
Develop your idea for game more such that its 3-d, enjoying, can be played by all ages, etc and then suggest to a Big Company
OR if you are good enough at math(programming) and you're hard-working, start your own company and I know you'll "play" in millions. Good Luck!

What should I get for a Gaming computer?

Q. Well I just got a computer so i want to get some upgrades for it. Ive been looking at Razer Carcharias Gaming Headset, a logitech g510 keyboard, and a razer molten naga mouse. SO im asking you if you have any reason i should not get these or any recommendations on what i should get?

A. All the worthless bells and whistles you mentioned above are not "upgrades", as you called them.

For a gaming computer, what you really need is:

A good processor, at least Intel Core i5-2500K or even better i7-2600K, mount either one on an LGA1155, Z68 chipset motherboard
A good graphics card, at least GeForce GTX460 or better
Minimum 4GB (8GB would be better) of DDR3 1600 or 1333 RAM

What is a good desktop computer speaker system?
Q. I want to buy some new computer speakers since my old cheap speakers broke and I'm sick of using a gaming headset for music and movies. I am looking to spend around $150-200 on a good speaker system. I am a "semi-audiophile" and I appreciate good sound. I would prefer a system with a good balance of highs, mids, and lows and would rather have a good 2.1 system than a cheap surround sound system. I would prefer a system with a subwoofer, but if there are any that have good bass without one, I am open to it. I don't have a sound card on my computer, but I am open to buying one if it makes a considerable difference. Any help is appreciated.

A. Here are a few speaker systems that fall within your price range.

What are some good gaming computers that can handle pretty much any game?
Q. I want to get a gaming computer that can handle lots of games, have plenty of memory space and is super fast when just internet browsing or playing a fast paced fps. I know alienware makes some pretty sick computers but i wouldn't know which one to get, im not really a tech guy. I play games like star wars the old republic and combat arms and they got some serious lag on them and i hate it. What are some good gaming computer models that can handle these games?

A. Let me help you pick a computer! Alienware does have nice computers, no doubt. Although, their computers are famous for being overpriced for what you get. Let me give you some pointers when you are looking for your computer! I will also suggest a few computers for you to look in to.

First rule: Windows 7 is a must. Macs and older versions of windows are simply obsolete for gaming. I will give a Mac OS credit in certain aspects over Windows OS, although gaming is simply not Macs strong point.

Second: Processor / Video Card/ RAM - The 3 most important things when picking a computer.
You will want to make sure your PROCESSOR is a 64 bit capable processor with at least 4 cores (Quad core). If you want to take it to the next level, look into 6-8 core processors (if price is not a concern..)
For a video card, I would highly suggest a GeForce (Nvidia) and one of the newer models. I use the Nvidia 550 gtx ti. It's a great card, last I checked the nvidia series with geforce goes at high as the 590gtx. So at least make sure your video card is an Nvidia GTX 500 series.
RAM (Random Access Memory) - The reason a 64 bit processor is so important, is RAM. 64 bit processors allow you to use a great deal of random access memory which will significantly increase computer speed while web browsing and multitasking. It also plays a fairly large roll in the gaming world second to video cards. I would suggest no less than 8 Gigabytes of RAM.

Third: System cooling - this is usually more of a concern if you build your own PC. Lots of people get the best hardware imaginable and don't understand just how much heat that puts out. Although, if you order a computer from a professional website or company, they understand the importance of cooling.

Fourth - Power supply! One of the most overlooked parts of a computer is the power supply. Think about it like this: If you're using the best parts, they demand lots of power (especially more-so than medium and low quality parts). Since I don't know exactly what parts you will use it would be difficult to recommend the perfect power supply. But for a gaming computer, make sure your power supply has at least 750 Watts, preferably more if you are buying a high end machine.

Good machines to look into with a higher budget:
IBuyPower LVL 10: http://www.ibuypower.com/info/Level10.aspx Just a strong overall computer that will undoubtedly take you through any game. Very expensive though. The cheaper models will run you about $2,000 not including shipping costs.

Black Pearl by CyberPower. http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/CyberPower_Black_Pearl/
Will run you ~$1,150

If you want cheaper option, Alienware does offer a fair deal on a nice computer that will run SWToR and Combat Arms with no problems, here is a link to their x51.
http://www.dell.com/us/p/alienware-x51/pd - This will probably run you around $800 if you make any upgrades or get a monitor. It could cost as low as ~$725 with shipping otherwise.

Last off, if you want to build your own (perhaps if you have a friend or a local business that will hook it all up for a price) look into Tigerdirect.com or Newegg.com for parts.

Hopefully this helps!

Am I weird for not liking to admit my hobbies?

Q. Hello, I am 19 and I go to college and one of my favorite hobbies is playing video games. But for whatever reason, I just don't enjoy telling people that I like to do this hobby. The main reason why is because I fear criticism from other non gamers who say to me: I am wasting my time, I need to get a life, you could be more productive so and so. I seriously hate hearing things like this and I love video games as a hobby. I don't just sit and play COD or World of Warcraft. I play other games like Civilizations, Anno 2070, Deus Ex, DOTA, and so on. But I mean, how can people say who play video games are a waste of time. When people are music album collectors could be wasting cash playing their music? How is that any different than gaming? I also don't get it how people say watching television is more fun than gaming and how they think that tv is better than in most cases.
I do other things as well. I probably play 5 hours a week, I go to college, walk dogs, help around the house, read books, etc. So why do people think that my hobby is a waste of time?

A. I think there's a lot of ignorance around gaming. Some of that may come from over-reporting of extreme cases where a person neglects themselves and their family and other responsibilities in order to have more game time.

As with anything, moderation and balance is critical. As long as you're getting enjoyment out of it, and it's not to the exclusion of other beneficial activities, like school, work, eating, exercise, sleep, and social development, I don't see a problem, nor do I see a reason to be secretive about it. You might miss out on making some friendships that could turn into worthwhile business contacts later on.

Some hobbies yield tangible results, and that might be why some think it's a waste. But, the real benefit of a hobby is not necessarily to create something, it's to ENJOY the process, and I think you're doing that with gaming.

Some readers would be horrified to know that I let my son play games while doing his homework (all through middleschool, highschool, and I presume college). He also IM'd and browsed the web in between short bursts of homework. Yes, it took him about 6 hours to finish his homework, but all that multi-tasking didn't go to waste - he's incredibly good at keeping track of a lot of details in his head at one time - way better than I ever was, and I grew up well before the computer revolution. He's also well on his way to an enjoyable and hopefully lucrative career in the audio video and music industry.

Are non gamers overly harsh on video games?
Q. For some reason adult non gamers and older people hate guys who play video games as well as those that like them. Here is a list of things I've made up on people who hate gaming
1. We are wasting our time on frivoulous things we should find jobs and work and work
2. Those games arnt going to ammount to anything in life in the future. The time on those games will soon amount to nothing
3. When your an adult there should be more importiant things on your mind.

A. I'm in my 30s, married with a toddler, and I work full time. But I am a serious gamer. It's my down time. It's my stress relief. It's the way I relax when I'm done with all my chores. (My husband, on the flip side, crashes on the couch and watches TV or reads a book. Or both. He's a serious multitasker, lol.)

I think if you are ONLY playing games, yes, you should probably get out more and see the world. But it doesn't mean you can't enjoy games. I'm sure the adults you speak of have hobbies and interests beyond work and family. Heck, maybe family IS their hobby. That's cool.

As an adult, wife, and mother, I do have to focus on other things; I can't just get home from work and go to the computer to blast some zombies. So yes, there are more "important" things on my mind, but I still enjoy the few hours a week that I do get to play. I can balance it. For what it's worth, I've been gaming since I was 18 months old. My eye-hand coordination is spectacular, my logical thinking is superb, and I'm really quite intelligent. Gaming CAN be good for you.

Then of course you have people like someone who already answered on here, who only points out the worst aspects of gaming. Guess what? People get divorced without ever touching a video game. They also stay single despite going out and socializing. As long as you have BALANCE, you can achieve great things (in game and out).

What are the advantages of a console-based gaming system, compared to computer PC games ?

Q. The experience of being a gamer has changed radically. A new generation game console hits the market every 5 or 6 years, exploring realistic three-dimensional worlds in high resolution with surround sound. Latest are the next generation of consoles led by Xbox 360, Sony Playstation 3 and the Nintendo Wii.

How are they better than computer games?

A. They are alot cheaper than computers. You also dont have to worry if your system specs is good enough to play the games, all you have to do is see if it runs on which ever system and your good to go.

What computer hardware should I upgrade?

Q. I use my computer for gaming, and I dont have brand new top-of-the-line hardware but I don't like it to be very old either. Of these three things, what urgently needs to be replaced/upgraded?

CPU Type Intel Pentium 4, 2666 MHz (20 x 133)
Motherboard Intel Rexburg D845GRG
Total RAM 1534 MB

A. It's not worth upgrading anything in that machine.
Time to buy a new one, especially if you want to play decent games on decent settings.

How important is the computer manufacturer if the comp has all the right specs?
Q. Hey everyone... I'd reeeeally like some advice. I'm looking to buy a new computer capable of gaming & running Windows Vista... so I need it to be pretty high performance. Of course, I'd like to stay on a budget as much as possible... so searching around I found a computer with the option to make payments in installments. It seems to have pretty much everything I need, all I'll need to add are video and sound cards.

My main question is just what the subject line says... how important is the manufacturer of the computer? This one is made by a company called Mirus who I can't seem to find much information on. A few sites have suggested that users "stay away" from Mirus, but I'm not sure if that's only because of customer support issues, or if it has something to do with the computer actually breaking down or something drastic like that.

So, if the computer has all the right hardware in it, does it really matter who put it together?

A. The question isn't "who puts it together" but "what parts go into it"? And the bottom line here is it depends on you. You might lean more towards a cheap unsupported computer if: You're good with computers and don't need much customer support; you don't mind troubleshooting hardware and software problems on your own (another computer in the house can be extremely helpful here); and if you don't plan on doing anything unusual with your software and hardware (installing old programs, hacking your hardware...). Or you have tech-savvy friends who, unlike me, will smile and freely offer to help you solve your problems for the next 7 hours.

With computer hardware as well as in life in general, you often get what you pay for. This isn't to say that you'll certainly have a problem with cheap laptops; but if you do you may end up pulling out your hair attempting to fix it. Of course many people with top of the line stuff also go bald attempting to repair computer probelsm too.

Part of the issue here is that cheap computers with all the "right" hardware are able to offer you good prices because of cheaply made hardware. You might be attracted to that 12x dual-layer DVD burner 48xwhatever, but there's a difference among hardware pieces. Sometimes one manufacturer will make quality name brand gear in one factory and junk in another, and one way to tell them apart is often price. Another way is when the piece of junk falls apart after 6 months, or doesn't seem to work with software or hardware that no one else has problems with.

If you're not a computer guru then customer support is very important. Even I have to resort to it occasionally and I've built and troubleshooted (shot?) computers. Recently I had to call Netgear and I had trouble understanding the reps accent and all he did was ask me to repeat my story a few times (I'm sure he was a very nice and hardworking person however).

Again the question isn't who put it together but what parts (and I mean nitty-gritty parts, the motherboard (maker and model!), the memory, the DVD drive etc) are in it.

You're absolutely right to be checking on line reviews. As with all info online (self-referencing here), take it with a grain of salt. However, consistently junky references about a manufacturer or computer can save your from a lot of future frustration.

What is a cheap but good gaming computer?

Q. I don't have the money for alienware or apple computers, so could anyone please tell me good computers for gaming that are preferably under $650?

A. Here is a good $600 gaming configuration.
http://gamingrig.blogspot.com/2011/06/600-gaming-pc-june-2011.html

Spend $30 more and upgrade the GTX550Ti to a HD6850.

What is the average price to build your own gaming computer? Is it possible to do it for under $900?
Q. I'm really not looking for anything that close to the bleeding edge. I just want to know how the range I'll be in if I'm looking to build a computer that can run things like Dragon Age and WoW without much of a problem. All I'm looking for in my computer is decent gaming performance.

PS. I'm a first-timer at this so any helpful sites would be greatly appreciated.

A. $900 can get you a pretty powerful computer, one that can max out almost any game today.

Look at this $1000 PC ($900 without OS).
http://gamingrig.blogspot.com/2011/06/1000-gaming-pc-june-2011.html

That's good enough to max out any game for the next couple of years at least.

Here is a $800 build that would max out all of todays games.

What should I be looking for in a gaming computer?

Q. I am trying to find a relatively inexpensive laptop that I can use for playing computer games, mostly World of Warcraft, and I am wondering what I should be looking for in a computer like how much RAM, what kind of video card, what kind of processor, how much total hard drive space, etc. that will make me not lag a lot. I know that laptops aren't as good as desktops but I specifically want a laptop so I can take it places.

A. You need at least 512 MB Video RAM and 512 MB Graphics Memory if possible (although some GPUs do not have them, they are memory intensive, thus you'd need more RAM than Graphics Memory, but its best to have 512 MB of the RAM you already have and lock the CPU out of it to reserve it for the GPU or they'll be fighting over it, possibly causing a crash). The Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) plays a big role and today its the clash of the two GPU titans Nvidia and ATI at the moment, so its best to choose from their biggest models and is best to get at least 512 memory off the GPU and CPU together at least, but you'll need a good CPU as well, you can try intel and/or AMD cores as they are quite cool. I'd recommend a quad-core and for gaming a 64-bit motherboard processing path and CPU. I recommend a DirectX 10 enabled GPU as well. It's best to have at least 2GB to 4GB RAM on modern day PCs and a 2 GHZ to 4 GHZ processor, ideally the ultimate PC would have 12GB RAM and a 40 GHZ processor, though that may blow the fans and melt through the heat sink's alloy itself, so we'll wait until the better processors, too big for a laptop though.
I'd recommend a dual 320 GB drive but ideally a 240 GB drive, like I have on one of mine (although its processor is not ideal).
Quad cores work well with 64-bit processors, thanks to server core technology by Microsoft's Windows Server technology as well as IBM systems. Perfectly also, you would need a WiFi and possibly bluetooth link and for enhanced game community interaction a built in webcam and microphone. That bunch would cost you about $1000 to $5000.
Just in case you don't understand a few terms I have entered, starting with clock speed:
HZ - or sometimes hz or even Hz stands for Hertz (pronounced heights or hurts) refers to the speed of how fast the clock speed of the processor works at a one period speed. 1 periods a second.
KHZ - or sometimes Khz stands for Kilo Hertz (pronounced killer heights) refers to the speed of how fast the clock speed of the processor works at a Kilo speed. 1,000 periods a second.
MHZ - or sometimes Mhz stands for Mega Hertz (pronounced meg-a heights) refers to the speed of how fast the clock speed of the processor works at a Mega speed. 1,000,000 periods a second.
GHZ - or sometimes Ghz stands for Giga Hertz (pronounced gig-a heights) refers to the speed of how fast the clock speed of the processor works at a Giga speed, which is 1000 MHZ. 1,000,000,000,000 periods a second.
THZ - or sometimes Thz stands for Tera Hertz (pronounced ter-a heights) refers to the speed of how fast the clock speed of the processor works at a Tera speed, which is 1000 GHZ, a future use of larger processors. 1,000,000,000,000, 000,000,000,000 periods a second.
There are higher rates but these are most common in computers.
RAM is used to store currently running (executed) address codes and even full programs and their holding process.
The CPU is directly connected to the RAM to hosts the execution threads.
The GPU is directly connected to the motherboard but indirectly to the CPU and RAM, but some motherboards let it access the RAM seperate to the CPU for hardware acceleration.
CPU stands for Central Processing Unit.
GPU stands for Graphics Processing Unit.
RAM stands for Random Access Memory.
I hope you understand this, anymore questions you can e-mail me via my profile.
Thanks.
CybX Systems.

What is the cheapest computer I can buy?
Q. I want to buy an inexpensive computer, the most inexpensive, one to surf the Internet, watch videos & email. I doubt I'll play many games on it. Would the Ipad be the cheapest computer out there? Or, a Notebook? A laptop? Tell me more about these. Thanks!!!

A. The iPad IS a computer; pretty much anything electronic is technically considered a computer.

For cheapness go with a netbook (preferably Acer)- they run around $300

If you are looking at full blown notebooks you can find some such as the Dell 11z for $350

Desktops are the best value as far as power goes but they obviously aren't portable and often don't come with a monitor (at least an extra $100)

What exactly are the differences between these types of computers?
Q. What are the differences among Desktop PC's and Home Servers?

Please explain their differences, their strengths and weaknesses regarding processing speed, graphics, etc., and their overall purposes in a home setting.

Thanks in advance for all answers and 10 points to best answer!

A. PC= Personal Computer, its basically used at home for w/e reasons. (work, leisure, gaming, research, etc). They use normal mainstream cpus and motherboards, lower amounts of ram, usually most have gaming graphics cards; Most just contain 1-3 hard drives.

Workstation= Computer made specifically for design work. Graphic design, video editing, 3d modeling. Workstations often use server motherboards and dual cpus for higher performance in design software. They also use professional video cards (quadro and fire pro). They usually have the highest computing performance on any computer group (other then supercomputers).

Server = server cpu (xenons and opterons) and motherboard. They usually have lots of ram and storage drives all in raid1 configurations. Servers are used for... well setting up servers XD (web servers, game servers, etc).

Supercomputer = lots of computers linked together to perform complex tasks. They include things like render farms, which are used in hollywood movies and animations. as animations of those length and complexity would take forever to render on a single computer. And there are lots of other purposes (government, nasa, i mean list goes on for uses of super computers)

Now PCs also kind of split into a few other groups.

Gaming PC: well i dont know anyone who doesnt know what a gaming pc is XD
Just a pc in which you aim for gaming, so you spend most of your money on a graphics card, more then the cpu.

HTPC: Home Theater PC. Usually is made to play movies and music. Is a good alternative to a blueray player, as you can play some games on it and browse the web, and they are usually in a very low budget category. usually contain a lower end cpu (like the core i3 or an amd a4/a6/a8), 4gb of ram, a blue ray burner or player driver, either no graphics card, or a low end silent one like a 6450. Uses mini-itx motherboards and extremely small cases (usually)

workstation PC: Uses a pc cpu/motherboard, but uses the enthusiast cpu/motherboard (like socket 2011), which have things like 6 core cpus and quad channel ram. A cheap version of a workstation usually aimed for people who just do design work for fun, and not necessarily work or professionally. Also usually contain higher end nvidia gaming cards rather then workstation cards. (so they can double as a workstation and gaming pc, and they are far cheaper then a full workstation)

home server/server PC: A server made out of an old pc. so it just contains 1 pc cpu/motherboard. and usually wont have raid configurations. Often used for non professional web servers, or things like vent servers, and lower end game servers (like minecraft, tf2, etc kinda of games)

Here is an example of one that would probably work for you....

what is a good laptop under $600 that is good for gaming?

Q. I want it to be able to run the sims3 quickly and smoothly since thats the only computer game thats ever interested me, and other than that i want it to have long battery life and decently light for transportation.

A. spend the extra and get a macbook.
the pc will last you a year then crap out on you, the macbook will last you forever.

and macbooks are actually cheeper then pc's with the same specs. they just don't sell any under 1000.

How do you play chain factor?
Q. Chain Factor is the weirdest computer game ever! Do you just drop random discs everywhere and hope for the best??

A. The discs will go away when the number of other discs in the same row or column as the original disk equal the number inside the disc. It sounds much more complicated than it is. Say you have a (4)

| _ | _ |(#)|(#)|(4)|(#)| _ | would make the (4) disc go away

same if it was verticle

(4)

How much would it cost to build a decent gaming computer in 2011?

Q. I've been really wanting to build a gaming computer, but I'm not the most tech-savvy person on earth. I know I can probably do it for $1k, but I'd also like to know what components I should buy in the first place to build a pretty good gaming computer.
I already have a pretty good monitor, mouse, speakers, keyboard, etc. All I have to worry about is the tower.

A. I would say around $800 - $1000.
You can get an AMD Phenom Quad Core for around $150. You can get a Hexa core processor, if you want to be really upgrade proof. But that usually costs a lot more than the quad.
Motherboards typically cost $150 - 200. (Be sure to get a mobo that is compatible with the processor)
A decent video card that will run current games will cost you $150 - 200. I recommend the NVIDIA GTX 560.
RAM (depending on how much you want) will typically cost you $60 - 120. 6GB DDR3 is recommended.
Power Supplies will be around $60 - 100. I recommend Corsair Power Supplies, they also have a Gaming Series for gaming computers.
Case would be around $50 - 80.
Windows will cost you $100 or more.
A Hard Drive will be around $100. 7200rpm recommended. You can go for a solid state hard drive just for backups, they are around $120.
So yeah, around $900.
In the end, you will be saving LOTS of money instead of buying an Alienware.

What is the best custom gaming computer?
Q. i would like to know the best custom gaming computer i can buy with a budget of $1000-1500. I don't need a monitor. Yes i do want the best of what i can afford.

A. It would obviously be a custom one, built by yourself. You can't get a lower price than by doing it that way. For your budget, I'd recommend getting an AMD 7850, an i5 2500k (or, wait until the new LGA 2011 i5's come out, and get one around the same price, which is what I would recommend), 2x4GB of RAM, a 600-650W 80 Plus Bronze certified power supply, and the rest is pretty much just preference. Building a computer is very easy, and shouldn't take more than 3 hours doing it your first time. There's literally only about 7 parts and some cords, and they all snap together like Lego. This video series tells you pretty much everything you need to know about building one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPIXAtNGGCw

It doesn't tell you much about choosing the parts, though, so if you want extra help on that, feel free to message me on here.
Building it yourself will ensure that you get what you pay for. You can go ahead and buy low quality parts that might break in a few months and save a hundred bucks or less in the process, or you can spend a bit more for quality. Newegg.com usually has the best prices on parts, and has great customer support.

Edit: I forgot a couple things. I'd recommend a 64GB SSD. Specifically, this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148441
Install the operating system, and programs that you use very often on it. You'll notice an extremely large loading speed boost with an SSD. Also, if you have a measurable amount of money left over, you may want a larger (128GB; I recommend sticking with the M4 series) SSD, or a better graphics card, eg. the AMD 7950, 7970, or GTX 680.

How do I stop lagging like crazy from my tenant downloading stuff?

Q. I share the internet with some people renting out my basement, and they're ALWAYS torrenting stuff. Is there a way to make it have less effect on my computer and online gaming? I don't exactly want to shut off their internet entirely, but is there a way to do that too? Thanks.

A. Yes, but it might cost you. What you are looking for is a feature that some routers have called Quality of Service (referred to as QoS).

Without QoS, all network traffic from all computers is treated equally. Torrenting will indeed be a massive drain on your network since it will try to use up every bit of bandwidth available.

With QoS, the router looks at all the network traffic and decides what gets higher priority.

If you've got a good level of computer knowledge, you can set these rules up manually in your router, directing it to give your computer and gaming system priority over your tenants' computers.

A much easier solution, which will probably solve your problem, is to let the router automatically decide what gets priority. If your router has QoS and Automatic Classification, it has built in rules to make sure things like streaming video, VOIP, and online gaming are highest priority which always go through first, web browsing second, and torrent downloads get whatever is left over. I think this will probably be the best and easiest option.

You'll have to log in to your router and see if it supports QoS and Automatic Classification. If it doesn't, it may be worth spending a little money to replace it with one that does. For less than the cost of two PS3 games, you can actually use your computer and gaming system. A very well liked and well reviewed router that I know supports QoS and Automatic Classification is the D-Link DIR-655 Extreme N Wireless Router. I've used it personally, and it performs very well. You might be able to pick one up at your local computer store. If not, I know Amazon sells this model for $90 and free shipping:

What are all the parts I am going to need to build a gaming PC?

Q. I have never really done this before. I have taken computers apart and put them back together. I have switched out parts from computer to computer. But I have never actually built a PC. Needless to say, this is a learning experience and a fun way I figured to blow off a $1500 bonus from work. Here is the kind of gaming computer I would like.

I want to be able to play games like Kill-Zone, so I need a computer that can handle the graphics.
However, I also want to be able to play old games from 2003-2006 (If I need to rip out parts from older computers I will).
I also like to download a lot of things on my computer. Like, a lot!
I also like to multitask.
That's about it.

A. Ok. List.
Graphics- Radeon 7600 Series.
Motherboard-AMD Radeon 7690.
Tradition cables.
Intel Quad Core Prosceesor, 2012 version.
A decen fan system.
For the casing. I'd go with a dell case.
Sony 2013 Disk Drive All Purpose
Chrome Browser.
An alienware monitor if you can find one.
If not the above. Go with a Dell 2012 24-25" LCD monitor.
Windows 7

What is the best gaming desktop I can buy?
Q. I have around $800 to spend. I want to be able to play Crysis 3 and Far Cry 3 on maximum graphics. Please list the specs I need. I'm not lazy i just don't know anything about computers. I've been researching for days on what computer to get. Please help! Thanks!

A. The one you build yourself.....
NEVER buy a gaming computer.

Yahoo answers will only allow up to 10 links, so I have to leave out the not so important components. Just copy paste in the search field on Newegg to find them, I will give the full name but no link for those.

BEST BUDGET GAMING DESKTOP PC BUILD FOR THE MONEY (under $750.00USD for the tower only)
Monitor, keyboard and mouse can add from $175 to over $500, depending on size and model you want.
All prices are in $USD and in the USA, current as of December 2012 and they might be slightly different one way or the other by now.
Also, some shipping charges may apply to some of the items.
Add your state sales tax if you reside in NJ, CA or TN - that's where Newegg has warehouses.
Look for similar parts on Amazon, Tiger Direct, etc if you want to avoid paying Uncle Sam.

Does a private server online computer game take a lot of room on your hard drive?

Q. I have several online private server computer games (the same game --different servers) and only 3 gigibytes left on my hard drive. I have a new Vista 120 gigibytes, but no more room. I did remove 4 viruses, but the viruses were removed, so where is my disk space? Maybe the servers really take up a lot of room and Vista utilizes lots of memory to carry out the computer functions? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

A. hey there. Im pretty sure those server games you are talking about arent taking up that much space on your hard drive. how long have you had the computer? I dont know about vista, but try going to search or find all files or folders, then see if there is an option for size something like "what size is it" then look for specify size, then put in something like at least 50000 bytes. thats 50 megs. it should bring up all files on your computer that are that size or larger. use your judgement and delete the ones that look like they dont belong or that you never use.

hope this helps, good luck

Can you play computer games from an external hard drive?
Q. I'm plannig on getting an external hard drive for my computer games and am worried about my games not working from my external hard drive.

A. you can although depending on the interface they might load a lot slower. if its a usb 2 hard drive you will notice longer loading times, if you have any esata ports on your computer get hold of a esata hard drive as these run as fast as most internal hard drives.

What would you like to see change in computer gaming systems?

Q. I recently read that the computer gaming industry is running at 30 or 40% of what they could really be. What would change this? What needs to be done to increase this percentage?

A. personally i would like to see games utilize the dual core technology more, i recently bought Doom but found it only using half of the dual core (one core only) and as its a new comp i built i am really looking for a game to test its limits.

better programmers, and people emplyed only to come up with new game ideas would certainly be a help. also more 3d games and extreme interactive technology if you can find technology to help you pet your cat if your in asia and your cats in ontario why cant you wear a suit that when you get shot vibrates in that spot?

Is a usb computer gaming headset compatible with the usb on a PS3?
Q. I am a bout to purchase a computer gaming usb compatible headset for my PS3, and I am wondering if it will work. I know there are usb headsets designed for the PS3, but this one has an audio to usb converter with it. Will it work?

A. ANY usb headset can be used on the PS3. I used my old one until I got bluetooth. You just need to make sure you activate it on the PS3 options.
