What I need to build a really fast computer?
Q. I want to build my own computer, I want it to be real fast obviously. Price is not a big factor, I have 1,500 dollars. This computer will probably also be used as a gaming computer, so a video graphics card is a must. I have a general idea of what I need, but if someone could tell me specifics to make sure everything is compatible with the motherboard, CPU, and all that good jazz. If you could tell me all the things that go into the desktop. Thanks it'll be much appreciated =].

A. u've 2 care about
processor core2Quad with high cash and
least 4Gb of memory

is there a big difference between intel gma 4500 and?

Q. 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530?? There's a big price difference but is it worth the upgrade? I do some minor photo editing and simple games and the usual internet browsing. I will probably be impressed with either since my computer's graphics card is very old and not good but I need help choosing btwn the two! Thanks!

A. this intel, is it only 4500 or 4500mhd? the first can't be played for high definition(that's what hd stands for) but intel 4500/4500mhd or radeon hd 4530 are classified as class 3.

What kind of graphics card is compatible with my pc and monitor?
Q. I’m upgrading my pc from Win XP to Win 7 OS and need to get a new graphics card that has/supports DirectX 11. I don’t know what type graphics card is compatible with my machine, but it has the following:

1. Athlon64 4200 Dual Core (2.2Ghz) CPU
2. MSI K9N4 Ultra F motherboard , NVIDIA nForce 500 Chipset based with PCIe x 16 slot
3. Acer model P205H LCD monitor with 1600 x 900 resolution

I recently added more RAM to accommodate Windows 7, but now need to upgrade the graphics. I don't game; I mostly use my computer for financial management, photo editing and storage, and some web surfing. I'd also like to be able to stream movies. Please help me determine what kind/type of graphics card is compatible and meets these needs along with being under $150. Thank you!

A. What motherboard?

How can I start making my own computer games?

Q. I want to make computer games, how can I start making them on my household computer?

A. Knowledge of various scripting languages and using programs like Bryce, Maya, Zbrush and others to model characters/landscapes/images in your game.

Check out a local bookstore for a book to help introduce you to this.

It takes a lot of hard work to pursue a goal like this.

How is a Video Game created by codes and functions?
Q. I am having THE hardest time wrapping my head around the idea that long strings of functions and codes, written in C++ and other computer languages, are able to create a video game... Can someone please describe to me how strings of codes are able to translate into a 3D environment in a video game??? Or even just a 3 dimensional object for that matter. I COMPLETELY do not understand how this works. Please help me conceptually understand how video game programming works. Thanks.

A. I suggest you read a bit about either XNA (for beginners and amateurs) or DirectX or OpenGL (both for pros).

They are API's for displaying 3D...

As a basic, you can write a function to show a pixel to the screen, right?
If so, you can probably create a function to show a triangle, right?
If so, you can probably create a function to show many triangles, right?
If so, you can probably create a function to show many triangles seen from a different angle, right?
If so, you can probably create a function to show many triangles arranged as 3D objects...

You might need to understand first 3D geometry (matrices, quaternions, vectors, R3 vectorial algebra and so on...)

As for 3D objects, they are made from polygons (triangles).

Should I sell my laptop to save for a gaming computer?

Q. I have a dell vostro v13 and I was planning on selling it to get a 1500 dollar gaming computer by Christmas. I would be able to sell it for 400 on ebay. I travel from my mom to my dads house every week so the laptop was useful but I really need a gaming desktop. My dad doesn't want me to sell it but I think I should. My mom doesn't care if I sell it.

A. Almost every answer here is not relevant to the question :-) If you really want to play games you surely need gaming desktop, and not max or alienware - buy custom built one. You can actually buy cheaper computer that $1500 one and still will be able to play all games on max, today the best price point is around $1000-1200. Get Intel i5 based one, with 4+GB RAM and good video card like at least GTX 460 and it will be a perfect one. Check link below:

How much is a decent gaming computer?
Q. I'm planning to get a job in summer so I can buy a decent gaming computer, which can run games like CoD Black Ops, Homefront, up coming Need for Speed games and Crysis 2 in maximum graphics with NO LAG. How much would it cost me to get a computer like that?
And which computer would you recommended?
yeah... what does it mean to built your own computer?

A. Best price is around $900-1000, no need to spend more than $1200 most of the times. Best processors now are Intel Sandy Bridge. They are just awesome - faster than any others. You don't generally need more than 4GB RAM, 8GB is an option. Now video card is very important. For Crysis on max you should look at GTX 460 or GTX 550 at least.
I recommend this machine - great CPU, you can pick GTX 460 or 550 in options, it comes with everything you will ever need. Free shipping and great quality from Centaurus Comptuers

Can I make a gaming computer for under 500 dollars?

Q. I would like to build a good computer that can run games smooth for under 500 dollars. I have someone helping me build it so I just need to buy the parts. I was wondering what parts I can buy and how many fps games will run with the parts.

A. The fool above me forgot ram, power supply, and operating software, arguably the most important things.

Oh, and bull shit to his 15 years computer building experience. You don't forget about those things, just don't listen to him.

/sigh

For 500 you really can't build anything that would run games. I'm sorry, but you really can't. If you plan on playing games you will need about a 700-900 dollar budget and with that you can get an entry level PC. If you can't afford that I would really suggest just buying a video game console such as the PS3 or Xbox 360.

With 1000 dollars I can build this;

Intel i3-2130 - 140
Intel H67 mobo - 110
8gb 1333mhz ram - 50
Radeon 6870 - 170
Corsair CX500 psu - 60
WD blue 500gb 7200rpm hard drive - 100
Generic DVD drive - 40
Zalman z9 plus case - 70
Windows 7 64bit OEM - 100

So this will be a well working machine capable of maxing alot of games, with an affordable price tag. Total comes to 840, assuming you have peripherals

What is the best gaming computer for $500 or less?
Q. I am looking for a very good gaming computer for under $500. It can be already built or just components. I would like a desktop.

A. most average desktop pc's usually have a somewhat decent graphics card. alienware computers are really good on gaming pc's, and there should be a few computers for a little bit more or less than your 500 limit.

What parts do I need for a gaming computer?
Q. I'm looking to buy a gaming computer. My money range is $0-$1200 and I want my gaming computer to play most games on max settings and those newer titles such as Battle Field 3 on normal/medium at least.I heard building your own computer is cheaper but I don't know anything about computers. Could someone please help and list good video cards, processors etc. and where to get them. Or you could just put a good pc for a reasonable price. Also can you put the links in your answers.

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - OEM - $100

COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus RR-B10-212P-G1 "Heatpipe Direct Contact" Long Life Sleeve 120mm CPU Cooler Compatible Intel Core i5 & Intel Core i7 - $34

ALTEC LANSING BXR1221 15 Watts RMS 2.1 Speaker System - $30

TOTAL :$1200 ($1150 after rebate), this is the best COMPLETE BUILD that I could give you for that price, it is well balanced and it already comes with an aftermarket cooler and speakers. The monitor is 1080p and with the GTX 560 ti 448 cores you could play all games on max settings on 1080p with good FPS.

The GTX 560 ti 448 cores is a DOWNGRADED GTX 570 thus it is only slightly slower than the gtx 570:

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/499?vs=306

BTW, the motherboard that I have provided is SLI ready that is why I have given you the 850w Corsair PSU that is capable enough to support 2 GTX 560 ti 448 cores in SLI on a high end system with overclocking.

And since the GTX 560 ti 448 cores has the same power requirement as that of the GTX 570, then it will be our basis of how much power is needed in SLI:

Here is Guru3D's power supply recommendation:

GeForce GTX 570

On your average system the card requires you to have a 600 Watt power supply unit.

GeForce GTX 570 in 2-way SLI

A second card requires you to add another ~225 Watts. You need a 750+ Watt power supply unit if you use it in a high-end system (800+ to a KiloWatt is recommended if you plan on any overclocking).

http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-570-sli-review/13

So, basically, what I have given you is still upgradeable to SLI and you could still add an SSD (120 gb is good, but this is only optional). =D

Any suggestions for a good computer game?

Q. I am wanting to get a new computer game, I have a mac, though I do run PC on Parallels. I love Civ IV and am into strategy, planning and building sorts of games. I am thinking of getting Spore.

Is Spore a good game?
Any other suggestions?
Thanks!

A. Spore is an excellent game but mines broke cell stage will take you 10-30 mins to do and has no stragety at all creature stage is the same but may take up to 3 hours to complete tribal stage and civilisation stage use only stragety and combined you'll be doing them for 4 hours space stage is like creature just being a veichle instead.

What would you like to see change in computer gaming systems?
Q. I recently read that the computer gaming industry is running at 30 or 40% of what they could really be. What would change this? What needs to be done to increase this percentage?

A. personally i would like to see games utilize the dual core technology more, i recently bought Doom but found it only using half of the dual core (one core only) and as its a new comp i built i am really looking for a game to test its limits.

better programmers, and people emplyed only to come up with new game ideas would certainly be a help. also more 3d games and extreme interactive technology if you can find technology to help you pet your cat if your in asia and your cats in ontario why cant you wear a suit that when you get shot vibrates in that spot?

Help me choose the best parts to build a computer build?

Q. Lately I have been thinking about building a computer rig. I decided to use a forum post to do so.

1. What is the purpose of the computer? (Note: If you are planning to say multimedia, you will have to be more specific as all types of systems are capable of doing that)
Programming. - Visual Studio 2012, Microsoft Office 2012, Compiling, Graphics, Adobe Master's Collection ( Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Fireworks ). Very very little gaming will be done. This rig is not intended to be a gaming rig.

2. Are you open to alternate ideas/products giving similar better performance but offering more VFM / sellers? If not- why?
Yes

3. What is your MAX budget?
3000 dollars

4. Planning to overclock?
Maybe. I heard that overclocking on processors wear them down. Don't know if it's good to overclock.

5. Which OS are you planning to use?
Windows 7 Professional

6. How much hard drive space is needed?
2 TB

7. What resolution will the screen run at & whats the size of the screen you want?
If you already want have one and want to use it, mention its resolution and size.
Screen resolution: 2560 x 1440 WQHD, 27 inch

8. How would you rate your hardware knowledge from the count of 1-10? (1 being the lowest, 5 being you are somewhat in sync with the current performers and 10 being the highest)
8

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Done by an assembler

10. When are you planning to buy the system?
3 week

11. Are you one of the types looking out for "future proof" configurations?
No

12. Are there going to be any components that you don't want to include in this new rig? If yes, do mention.
i3 and i5 processors

13. Which city do you live in and are you open to buying from shops from other city/states?
USA and want to buy parts in the USA

A. $3000 is beyond overkill for such a machine. However, it sounds like this is a business machine and therefore I suggest you buy a business class workstation from a Tier 1 manufacturer because you don't want to be troubleshooting stuff by yourself while your money-making computer is down. you want to call someone and have them send the replacement part overnight.

If you insist on building, i'd suggest nix327's build from here

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/toms-hardware-bestconfigs-build-a-pc,3453-3.html

but replace the i3 with an i7-3770 (not the K version since you won't be overclocking) and upgrade the 64GB SSD to the 256GB Samsung 840 in the other build. You'll still be well below $1000 so invest in a nice monitor, maybe one of the 27" 1440p models since I know developers like their real estate space. The onboard GPU in the i7 is more than enough to power that resolution for software development and the occasional flash based game.

What is a good, cheap gaming laptop to run arma 2 operation arrowhead?
Q. My Mom got a computer for about $300 from wal-mart around Christmas of 2012,and it can run aram 2 on high settings with very little lag by myself on editor mode.Campaign can lag,and multiplayer mostly lags a little unless there is alot of people. She has a computer with windows 8,so I do not know how to check the system settings and what I have, but my Dad said that the place where he bought my $100 Dell Latitude D420 at makes custom computers.I want a computer that I can afford($0-$400please) that can run Operation Arrowhead great, just a gaming computer.

A. Something that increases your FPS significantly will be turning ALL of your video settings plus advanced to as low as it can go, or even disabled.

I know, it will ruin the graphics, NOPE.
Te game still looks great, you'll get used to it aft awhile..
Yu can probably play if you put your settings to medium/low, since my CPU has way worse specs and it can run on low settings.

What schools have computer game design majors?

Q. I'm looking for a school which has video game design as a major or minor as well as is an accredited school allowing for transfer of credits. Does anyone know of one?

A. Try out Full Sail in Florida.

You can get your masters in Game Design and it has a bunch of courses that have to do with game design!!

I really would love to go there....but I'm being forced into a liberal college where i'll probably be forced to do business and boring stuff.

As a girl, I WILL ONE DAY DO GAME DESIGN! It's been my dream since like 4th grade lool.

Plus think about it, Full Sail is in Florida! Who wouldn'[t love designing a video game while relaxing with your laptop on the beach?

Good luck =]

Does anyone know any computer games companies in Liverpool?
Q. Ok So i've got my work experience coming up and i'm very interested in the design of computer games. I'm actually looking to go into that area of work when I leave school. Does anyone know of any Computer Games Design companies in Liverpool? Any help would be appreciated, i've spent many hours searching for somewhere to go.

A. There might be one there, however most companies are in New York, Toronto, and Los Angeles - with some others in Texas, Seattle, and Boston.http://computer-games-you-can-play.aoleonthemartiangirl.com/

What is the best gaming computer under $1000 USD?

Q. I would like to know where I can get the BEST gaming computer for under $1000.
The games I will be playing are: Amnesia - The Dark Descent, Minecraft, Half-life 2, and games similar to those.
Thank you!

A. There are many options - look for custom system builders, don't buy off the shelf, customize system for yourself and your budget. Make sure it's balanced all around. You can go for more expensive Intel CPUs and cheaper video card, or you can get excellent AMD FX series CPU and more expensive video card which would be more adequate.
FOr example FX 6100 with GeForce GTX 550 or ATI 6850 will run all new games on high or med-high settings.
Check this page to find something:

What's a good gaming computer to record CoD and Minecraft?
Q. Im planning on selling my xbox and mac to get a gaming computer. Ill probably have about 1000 dollars to spend on it. I want to record call of duty and minecraft with fraps (or something else you would recommend) and start up a youtube thing, nothing big, just for fun. I want to switch from console to pc gaming. Any help with this would be unimagionably appreciated :) thanks guys!

A. Alien Ware would be the best, they are pretty good prices for what you are getting, $1000 is plenty for getting a good gaming computer. I have an HP Pavillion that was $850. It has a 3.4ghz AMD quad core processor. 2 TB hard drive. 8GB RAM. That was with a monitor, keyboard and mouse. The monitor is 23''.
It is great for me. I can play minecraft with no problem. Most games will be able to run on it. And I have enough room to keep all my youtube videos as a backup.
If you have any more questions. Message me on youtube, my username is googiespage.

what kind of career can you get from a computer game science degree from University of California Irvine?

Q. I've been interested in going to UCI and study computer game science, but I want to know if it will be worth it. I love to play video games and I think this degree, since it has a lot to do with video games, would be something I would love to do. However, I have doubts whether graduating with that degree will get me a good paying career. What kind of career can I get with this degree?

A. You can get a job in Programing computer games, Testing Computer Games, Designing computer Games Marketing Computer Games Advertising Computer Games and Drawing Computer Games. The pay is not as good as a Computer Engineering job for the jobs I mentioned above, but if you continue and get a PHD and possibly a Doctorate in Computer Games Science and a few other majors in different computer qualifications you could possibly get a job as a Computer Game Engineer and the would be a very well paid job because you wouldn't just be making computer games but you would also be making games for PlayStations consoles, Xbox, Wii, Nintendo and other Consoles as well as inventing games.

What classes should I take if I want to design computer games in the future?
Q. I want to design my own line of computer games in the future, but I'm not quite sure what classes are neccessary to do so. Thanks :)

A. Computer programming (not languages, although you'll need them later - plain old computer science), game theory (both mathematical theory and games themselves - a great game isn't just an idea, it's a well-developed concept), marketing, graphics design and, possibly, psychology. That's why great games are designed by teams - it's too much for one person.

How do i mod my computer to be somewhat like a gaming computer?

Q. I'm a noob at dealing with computers... I just love playing games!

Specs of my computer:
AMD Athlon II X2 240 Processor (2CPUs), 2.8GHz~
4096MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430

A. Many games today rely heavily on GPU (graphics processing unit) power. You've got enough RAM and your processor is decent enough (although you could possibly consider buying a quad-core), so really the only thing that you should be purchasing at the moment is a new video card. If you're interested in NVIDIA cards, you could probably upgrade to the 8800 or 9800 cards- They provide great performance. However, if you're looking for an ATI card, either a 4870 or 5870 would be a good choice.

What type of upgrades do you recommend for a computer?
Q. system specs;
1 gb ram
amd athlon 64 processor 3800+ 2.4 ghz
nvidia geforce 6100 graphics card

Im just starting to get into computer gaming, but right now my computers kinda lacking in upgrades. I can't play any games with super good graphics, so i've been playing a lot of older strategy games like rome total war and civilization 3. If their's any cheap upgrades somebody can recomment i'd appreciate it.

A. First step will be to buy a real graphics card. Find out if your motherboard has an AGP or PCI-Express video slot, and purchase accordingly. You'll also benefit from upgrading your RAM to 2GB.

Good luck!

How does the computer game Toontown by Disney work? Do you only buy it once or have a subscription?

Q. I saw at Walmart a game called Toontown. The package included the CD but I've read online that the CD is only good for a month or something? Why do you keep having to buy another CD every month? Can you just play the game for free?
Ok so then why do you have to pay every month then? What does the money go for?

A. You can play the game for free if you make an account at the Disney's Toontown website. If you want to be a member, you can go on Disney Movie Rewards to earn points and get a month of free Toontown membership. Free toontown membership is worth 200 points on Disney Movie Rewards... If you take a survey ( you have to make an account first ) you get a hundred points and if you watch a video about Blu Ray you get another 100 points so you already have 200 points to redeem! I don't really know about the CD you found on Toontown but you can also pay every month or year for membership on the Toontown website.

Is there a computer without internet access?
Q. Im looking for a computer system without internet access and can only play computer games. The reason I dont want internet access because I figuire it would be cheaper and all my kids want to do is play computer games.

A. I think all computers come with a modem now, but you can ask around.

If you know anyone who knows a lot about computers, you can ask them to "build" one for you.

Dell and HP both have websites where you can get a real basic computer without any frills for about $350, however if you really want a customized computer, go to Tiger Direct. You will need to know a lot about computer hardware. If you don't, try to think of a friend who knows enough about them to help you out. They have a website, but they also have outlet stores, so check out the website and to see if they have a store near you. There is a "bare bones" kit on their website that is only $159, but it doesn't include a CD/DVD drive (which you need to load the games onto the computer) and it doesn't include a monitor (which you need to see and actually play the games). It also doesn't include a keyboard or mouse, and you will need one or the other, or both, to play the game as well.

If I were you, I'd check out a basic computer on line, or even at Walmart. If you are okay with a used computer, do a google seach for refurbished computers, or check out Craigslist.org or eBay.com. If you buy from a private owner, you might want to take it to a computer repair place to make sure that any "offensive" files that may have been left behind are removed before your kids have access to it.

What is the best computer processor I can buy for under $200?
Q. I'm going to build a computer made for playing endless video game playing and I need a good processor.

A. Under $200, i5-2400

At $219 though you can get the best gaming processor in the i5-2500k. The i7 is technically a more powerful processor but in no current games does it make any difference in frame rates so I'd definitely make the jump if you can.

Edit:

Ignore the person telling you to get the 990x Extreme Edition. As seen here: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpus/2011/03/23/intel-core-i7-990x-extreme-edition-review/6 it actually performs slightly lower than an overclocked i5-2500k in gaming benchmarks when compared to an also overclocked i7-990x extreme. Not to mention even the used one they posted is more than double what you'd pay for a i5-2500k. In most cases the i7-990x performs equal or lower than the i5-2400k which is only $189 for gaming. You could get your processor and a great graphics card for the price of that processor and run games as good or better unless they come out with some game that uses 6 cores. Considering most games don't use more than 2 I doubt that's going to happen.

What are some good specs i should use to build my own gaming computer for as cheap as possible?
Q. I am looking to build my own gaming computer but I don't know very much about computer building so I was wondering if anyone could give me some good specs to work with on a budget?

Thanks for any help

A. This depends on your budget...

Some good parts...
CPU:
- Intel Core i5 2500K is the best bang for buck, especially if you overclock.
- Intel Core i3 2100 is a good budget option but you cannot overclock for extra performance.
- AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition is another good budget option, which you can overclock.

Motherboard:
- This depends on your CPU.
- AM3+ board for AMD, 1155 for Intel.
- Stick to brands Gigabyte, ASRock, ASUS, MSI for generally good boards
- See how much back ports, expansion slots, Crossfire/SLI support and determine if you need them.
- Get an ATX board (MATX boards are smaller and cheaper, usually not as good)
- Don't bother with excessive boards like the Rampage, Assassin, Sabertooth (unless you have a high budget)

Memory:
- Brands: G.Skill, Corsair, Mushkin, Kingston
- Do not get the ValueRAM/ValueSelect (or similar) ones.
- DDR3 1600MHz 2x4GB (8GB) is the sweet spot atm.

Case:
- Your choice
- Look at reviews on the net about them.

Power Supply:
- Check with a power supply calculator (google it), round up to nearest available wattage power supply there is.
- Brands: Enermax, Corsair, Seasonic, Silverstone.
- Do not skimp on this. You don't want to blow up your new computer because you got a cheap one, do you?

DVD:
- Anyone that is cheap is good. Bluray drives are more expensive.

Hard Drive:
- Check the price/GB
- Prices have gone up due to Thailand floods
- 3.5" 7200rpm, from Seagate, Samsung, Western Digital is a good idea.

Solid State Drive:
- Optional
- Decreases boot time, opening applications, loading stuff.
- Expensive
- Go for a 60-120GB model if you want this.

Graphics Card:
- Determine what games you play
- Check their website for the recommended (screw minimum) requirements.
- Check TomsHardware for their graphics card of the month articles.
- Pick one that suits your budget range.

Building a computer isn't too hard, plenty of guides in the internet.

Is it good to get a standard power supply?

Q. I am getting a gaming computer and the recommended watts is 645 but I can only choose a 1,000 watt or higher power supply unit. The psu I would be getting is a standard supply unit, not a brand name. Is this ok?

A. Buying a decent power supply is extremely important, buying a cheap budget PSU that only matches the requirements of your PC is a big risk.
If your PSU blows then you could damage some of the components in your PC as well.

On this occasion you may be ok, considering your purchasing a 1000watt power supply unit and your max usage is 650watt, that gives you a lot to play with even with a standard unit.
I would say it would probably be safe to use, but check the max output on the 12v rail, if it is less than the max draw from your Graphics card then you need a better PSU.
One thing to remember is that if your not buying an 80+ certified PSU then it will not be power efficient, meaning it will draw more power from your wall unit and your electricity bills will be higher than if you had an 80+ PSU.
Power supplies lose a lot of their power through heat, the more the unit draws the more heat is exhausted and the more wattage is wasted - this is where the 80+ certification comes in, if the unit is drawing 50% of its maximum then it will be at least 80% efficient with only 20% being lost to heat.
A non 80+ certified PSU will have no such efficiency rating guarantee.
The choice is yours!

We are planning on buying a gaming computer for my nephew.?

That's about it. The price comes about 10.000$. That's no problem. The problem is are all those parts compatible?

Only answer if you know!!! Don't leave comments about the system here!! Other things like wireless cards and stuff, will be installed later on. Norton Internet Security 2011 will also be installed. I'm pretty sure it can handle games, but can it max them out????

Thanks.
Hah, thanks a lot. I am already checking and double checking the components, but i just wanted a second opinion. The computer isn't really for me, it's for a close friend living cross the street. When it comes down to computers, he's a complete noob!

That's why i find the parts for him. But he owes me, and he will repay, by letting me playing whenever i want on his pc!

A. Yes I've checked and all of them parts are compatible but in the unlikely case that I'm wrong just go to you're nearest computer store and ask the staff.
Hope I've helped.
BTW I WANT THAT COMPUTER!!!!!!!!

How do I convince my parents to buy me the parts for a gaming computer?

Q. I would love to build my own computer. I want a gaming rig that can run like 3 crysiss max graphics at the same time.

A. You won't convince them that a teenager can build a computer without blowing up the entire house.
You and I know that won't happen, but you won't get them to believe it.
Then there is the "money" factor. Why should they trust you to build a computer when they could go out and buy one with a warranty?

I want to start getting an idea of the gaming rig I want to put together soon, help?
Q. I'm no pro at computer hardware, but within the next year I want to start putting together a somewhat epic gaming rig, something that won't go obsolete in a while, and something that will run games at their maximum. I need some help choosing a pre-built, yet upradeable desktop. I can get the accessories myself. Where should I start looking at pre-built computers? I will upgrade them later on, but I need one that will perform extremely well without having to be upgraded right away. Thanks!

A. pre-build pc's are fine if you buy them from companies that will pre-build the computer from the parts of your choosing. for example
http://ncix.com/
they have a selection of pre built computers that you can add/change anything you want (customize) OR you can start from scratch and build it completely custom to what you want. and all they do is take the parts from their inventory make it and ship it to your house. REALLY EASY.

What are good and cheap computers that play CoD: World at War and Team fortress 2 good?

Q. It can be up to 700 dollars.
A PC btw not a laptop

A. Laptop or PC?

To run all the modern games today you need intel i5 > 2.5 GHZ boost up to 3.0+ GHZ (Or AMD equivalent), and a graphic card > Nvidia 9600M-GT or AMD Radeon HD 6470M and above.
The 1 GIG or 2 GIG GT640M appears to be a decent mobile video card.
Oh and 6 GIG 1333MHZ/1600MHZ DDR3 RAM, although you can add this your self.

What is the name of the classic computer game?

Q. I remember a computer game (i think it came standard on PC's back with windows 95) where you were a little man that moved blocks around strategically. I don't remember what the point/object of the game was, but I do remember some colored dots that you could step into and it would move you to a different part of the board. Anyone remember this game?
Thank You!

A. Oh man thats chips! I loved that game!

What computer components make a computer system good?
Q. I want to know what exact component parts makes a computer gaming system outshine other computers, such as it's graphic card and other components. Can you name a general computer system that is rated for it's gaming features?

A. GPU, CPU and RAM, in that order, I'd say.

I'm more of a laptop enthusiast myself, but the NVidia GTX 29x/39x series seems great, especially in an SLI configuration.

As for CPUs, it can get a little confusing; it depends on what games you're playing. Most games that weren't made in the last three or four years can't take full advantage of more than 2 cores, so a high-power Core 2 Duo is perfect for those, and is what I look for. Otherwise, if you're playing newer games, many very new games can use more than 2 cores, so a good Core i7 CPU is perfect for that - 4 cores with hyperthreading.

Having enough/fast RAM is good, too, but usually won't be the dealbreaker, since it usually won't make that huge of an impact. 4 GB or more is good if you're a heavy-duty gamer (keep in mind you need a 64-bit OS to use more than 3), and look for DDR3 with fast clocks, just make sure your motherboard supports it.

When it comes to DESKTOPS, I can't really name any pre-fab computer brand that shines above the others, but iBuyPower is one place to consider. Personally I'd just build the computer myself; you save a LOT of money that way.

What computer would you reccomend to me?

Q. I'm looking for a computer to game and to edit video's and photo and some programming.
I would like around 1tb hard drive preferably a quad core and if possible built in wifi.
If you need more information or have some suggestions I'd be happy to answer/hear it
thx already
I would like to keep it around €1000 little more is ok

A. If you can build a computer go for the i7's if your not on a budget tbh a i7 970 will be totally worth it especially after the price drop and it's basically equivalent to a i7 990x difference being overclockability it will render your video efficiently and get a SSD for a boot drive and a 1-2TB drive for storage you should be set GPU wise since your not playing games use the integrated If you can't build computers lol here's a link to a model I think will be great for you :http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_can_series.do?storeName=computer_store&category=desktops&a1=Category&v1=High+performance&series_name=HPE570t_series&jumpid=in_R329_prodexp/hhoslp/psg/desktops/High_performance/HPE570t_series

What do you do with a bunch of old computer games?
Q. We have a bunch of computer games that my family has outgrown, and don't play anymore, what should we do with them?

A. If the keys to the games don't have to be activated online, you can probably sell them on Ebay or craigslist just make sure to mention that they have been installed before. Or if you want to make an awesome youtube video you could always burn them and post the video of them melting. Money or a small amount of internet fame? your choice! good luck!
EDIT: I forgot to mention you could donate them to wherever the games may be appropriate.

A Documentary against the connection between Video Games and Violence?

Q. I am doing a school report and I need a video documentary for my research. My topic is on Video Games and their connection to violence, my side being against the connection; as in I believe Video Games are not a cause for violence in teens. If you know of any video documentaries supporting my opinion please list them in your answers. Thank you.

A. Study: No Link Between Violent Video Games, Youth Aggression http://psychcentral.com/news/2010/12/15/study-no-link-between-violent-video-games-youth-aggression/21824.html ------ Do Video Games Make You Violent? An In-Depth Look At Everything We Know Today http://www.techspot.com/article/629-do-video-games-make-you-violent/ -------------- Games & Violence Download the 2012 Essential Facts About
Games and Violence
Facts, common sense and numerous studies all refute the claim that there is a link between computer and video games and violence. Blaming video games for violence in the real world is no more productive than blaming the news media for bringing violent crimes into our homes night after night. Numerous authorities have examined the scientific record and found that it does not establish any causal link between media content and real-life violence.
Credible real-world evidence demonstrates the fallacy of linking games and violence:
Violent crime, particularly among the young, has decreased dramatically since the early 1990s. During the same period of time, video games have steadily increased in popularity and use, exactly the opposite of what one would expect if there were a causal link.
Numerous authorities, including the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Surgeon General, Federal Trade Commission and Federal Communications Commission have examined the scientific record and found that it does not establish any causal link between violent programming and violent behavior. The truth is, there is no scientific research that validates a link between computer and video games and violence, despite lots of overheated rhetoric from the industry's detractors. Instead, a host of respected researchers has concluded that there is no link between media violence and violent crime.

The Case Against A Link
Chris Ferguson doesn't just think there's no proven link between violent video games and aggression: he thinks today's studies are totally bogus.
"There are over 100 studies at this point that in some way or another tap into video game violence and aggression," Ferguson said. "Most of them are horrible."
For one, the meta-analysis conducted by Bushman and crew suffered from publication bias, Ferguson said. Many studies that show null effects remain unpublished, as researchers tend to assume that in those studies, something must have gone wrong.
One of Ferguson's studies, for example, split university students into different randomized groups. Some played the graphic shooter Medal of Honor; others played the non-violent adventure game Myst III. "No link, either causal or correlational, was found between violent-video-game playing and aggressive or violent acts," he wrote.
Ferguson: "There are over 100 studies at this point that in some way or another tap into video game violence and aggression. Most of them are horrible."
Ferguson, who met last week with vice president Joe Biden and several leaders in the gaming industry to talk about violent video games, thinks there are three main flaws with today's research. The first: many of the studies look at college students, not children.

I experience derealization. How can I make it go away or deal with it without the overwhelming fear?
Q. I get very afraid of death and 2012 and life in general. I start thinking the craziest thing and sometimes get verryyy weirded out by normal body functions and natural things. I sometimes look at myself wrong in the mirror and get extremely freaked. How can I deal with this!!!!!! :(

A. In the year 999, many people believed that the coming of the millenium would be the end of the world. IT DIDN'T HAPPEN! Similarly, with 1999: IT DIDN'T HAPPEN! And Y2K and the computers crashing: IT DIDN'T HAPPEN! And when the planets lined up: IT DIDN'T HAPPEN! Now, it is 2012: IT WON'T HAPPEN!!!

Derealisation is addressed in section 46, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris Employ those techniques. Only use a small hand mirror to check appearance, so just a small part of the body may be seen at a time, yet anything wrong will still be immediately apparent; cover (taping over/painting) full length mirrors. It is important to regularly monitor, and deal with a negative internal monologue (self talk), or mental process, such as disturbing thoughts, images, impulses, or emotions, by the process of (a): recognising it, and (b): challenging it immediately.

Technique For Re-Programming Negative Thoughts: When you notice something negative, such as: "I'm never going to get over this!" or: "Why am I always so pathetic/useless/such a loser?" or even: "I can't do this/will never get over this!", even an image, emotion, or a memory; recognise that this is being generated from the negative part of your mind. Having identified and labelled it, visualise a large, red, flashing, "STOP!" sign, and/or possibly a stern faced person wagging an index finger at you in a negative manner, then say to yourself as forcefully as you can, even aloud in a big voice, if alone: "I know this tactic: GO AWAY FOR A WHILE !!!" You may want to use either: "ruse", "ploy", "game", or "trick", instead of "tactic". In the case of an image, visualise a large "STOP" sign, or your preferred version. Some people go so far as to keep a wide rubber band in their pocket, then put it around their wrist, when they catch themselves backsliding, stretch and release it, as a method of reprogramming their mind sooner, but I don't regard it as being strictly necessary.

Remember to remove it, afterwards, if you use this method. Try replacing a negative thought with a positive affirmation of your choice, like: "I am a unique individual, with my own set of skills, and good points", or "I may not be perfect, but I'm doing the best I can, right now". Imagine, as vividly as you possibly can, that your concerns, anxieties, worries, fears, your self-recriminations, all the agonizing "I'm-so-Stupids," and "I'm-too-fats"; every painful "I-can't-I-have-it" or "I-can't-do-it"are huge raging, hurtful bulls snorting and charging at you. You see them coming at you and you hold out your red matador's cape at arms length and simply let them charge right by. Every time they come at you, hold out your arm with the red cape and let them rage and snort and go right on past. Practice the progressive muscle relaxation, in section 11, at ezy build.

Set yourself a specific time period for worrying about anything, (say; around three quarters of an hour, possibly when you get home, or after your evening meal, but not too close to bedtime) after which, resolve firmly to refuse to even entertain the thought of worrying again on that day: realise and accept that to do otherwise would be counterproductive to your mental health, and enjoyment of life. You will have had your "worry time" for the day, and can just write down any more thoughts that come to mind, and say to yourself: "Well, I'll just have to worry about that tomorrow, won't I?".

Which computer major can give me the basics of computer Gaming ?

Q. I am planning to study Computer information systems for my Bachelors Degree, then for my masters i'll study Computer Gaming. My question is will the Computer information systems or computer networking or the computer science build great structure for my knowledge that will help me learn easily in computer Gaming? And which one of these will help ?

A. If you're up to the internal system of programming a computer game, go for Computer Science. You can also take ComSci for the computer graphics.

Either way around, take Creative Arts and Design if you're up to Digital Structure or 3D Modelling.

Could someone help me find parts to a good gaming computer for about 500$?

Q. Because i must be looking on the wrong website for parts, ~i don't want to spend to much on a part thats not to expensive. If its a good mid range gaming computer, then maybe my parents may be interested in dishing out some money. * btw, i know how to assemble a computer* thanks.

A. A "midrange" gaming computer is going to run you about $800. I mean, for a remotely descent gaming computer, you're going to need to spend $100 on the GPU, Motherboard, CPU, leaving only $200 for the case/psu/ram/hd/dvd, which just isn't going to happen. You might be able to push it for $600 though.

Give me like wat kind of motherboard should i get, video card, blah blah blah you know what i mean. I know $500 is kinda low but im on budget rite now i just want starcraft 2 to run fine.

A. haha dude your funny, man i wish but if you want a gaming computer with no lag and stuff that plays games like call of duty , u lookin at $1000-$2000 easy. why not just get a console for like $250......
i used to be a computer gamer but now a console gamer cause it has more games and less exspensive

What is a Good Gaming Computer for around $500?

Q. I'm looking for a good gaming desktop computer for around $500. I would like it to be able to play BattleField 3 (can be on lowest graphics. I don't care). Please don't say build your own because I have looked into that and I don't have the patience to do so.

A. The previous poster is correct, buy a cheap computer and install a better graphics card.

For example, take this:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Dell+-+Inspiron+Desktop+-+6GB+Memory+-+1TB+Hard+Drive/5611456.p?id=1218672937187&skuId=5611456

Then add this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131441

And you could play on medium or low settings, depending upon your monitor resolution

What parts do i need to make a moderate gaming computer for around 500$?
Q. what parts do i need? if im going to make a computer for around 500$

any suggestions will help...

been looking on black fridays for deals but nothing good yet...

i want a gaming computer.... one good enough to play cod 6

thnks

A. If you're going to build your own that would save you money.
Just make sure you have:

1. Dual Core processor at least 2.7 Ghz
2. Motherboard that supports SLI (in case you want to add another videocard)
3. Nvidia Geforce GTS 250 / ATI HD4830 or higher (If you want to play crysis at max, better invest in HD4870 or GTX 260)
4. at least 2GB memory
5. at least 160GB SATA harddrive

All those would cost less than 400$

Can somebody suggest me some FREE computer games that can boost long term memory?

Q. I have a very bad long term memory and can't remember names. I need some computer games that are FREE which can boost my long term memory. I prefer offline games.

A. the "simon" ap for the i-pod touch/i-phone/i-pad

If you do not have an i-product, then im sure there is many 'simon' flash games out there for free, but alas you will have to be on the internet everytime you want to play them.

Can I play computer games without the cd in the cd drive?
Q. I want to install computer games on my laptop, which doesn't have a CD drive, via an external CD drive.

Do I need the external CD drive with the game CD inside hooked up to my laptop if I want to play, or is there a way to copy the contents into, say, a memory card, and just insert that into the slot?

Or would it be better to copy the CD contents into a memory card and install it from there?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

A. NOTE:PLAYING GAMES THAT REQUIRE THE CD TO PLAY WITHOUT THE CD IS ILLEGAL.

there are two ways you can do this.

1. get the specific "game crack" this little program is to be replaced with the original file in the directory where the game is installed. it will bypass copy protection techniques and enable the game to think the cd is in the drive. these can be found on crack sites such as www.crackspider dot net or www.crack dot am or can even be found on google searches.

2. make a disc image. through a dvd authoring tool such as nero or roxio or ashampoo burning studio etc. and chose to create and save the disk image in a folder. then using a disk emulator tool such as DAEMON, which has the capabilities to mount disk images without the need to burn cd's. your game once run will run from a virtually fake dvd rom linked to your folder where the image is.

What is the best Gaming Computer out there?
Q. I want a good gaming computer with RAM and around 250GB-300GB. I have around 1000$ to use. Where can i go (store or website) to get this computer? I also would like it customized
I got no idea how to build a comp, where can i learn?

A. Alienware isn't the best... you can easily build 2 computers of the same specs for the price of one of their rigs.

Unless you are made of money, stick to building a PC. If you can't go with Gateway, their deals seem better.

For 1000 dollars you can max all games right now.

Go with a E8400, 2GB (or 4) of ram, 320/500GB HD, ATI 4850/ nVidia 8800GT and the rest of the components. Even if you don't know how to build, services are probably around 50-100 dollars for building but you will save more than buying a pre-built rig. If you have a buddy into computers, ask him! :P

Good luck!

What is a good free social MMO game to play?

Q. Im bored and im wanting to play a mmo game on my laptop. What is something that you can maybe hangout in a area and talk to people, like a social mmo game?

A. Well, there's a somewhat old game called Furcadia. In Furcadia players create 'worlds' (rooms), and day can do a great variety of things in there. It's very social-based and doesn't require a great computer.

There's also another social MMO, Maplestory, maybe you've heard of it. It mixes platform with RPG.

There's also habbo hotel.

That's also I can think of right now.

What specs do I need to run minecraft on far render fast/fancy graphics and a 64x texture pack with mods?

A. WRONG PLACE TO POST

this has nothing to do with Travel

suggest that you post under computers and computer games.

What is a good laptop for both gaming and school?
Q. I want a computer that's good for both gaming and school. So it should be light enough to carry around, but still quiet good.

A. The market is big for this kind of subject.

I would personally suggest a HP- the 8GB RAM Quad core version is more than enough for Video games, and comes in at under 500 pounds.

Alienwares are good but pricey, and they tend to overheat, which is a problem if you're playing on your lap (which I always do).

Acers are good. They are light, often come with good graphics cards, and are cheap too.

If you're in America, and have no budget- GET A RAZORBLADE Gaming Laptop. They are the best, and I know this from personal experience. They can run really heavy duty games without the slightest catch, have a long battery life, awesome screen and a light weight.

Looking to build a gaming computer for Diablo 3, need recommendations.?

Q. I am looking to build a pretty nice gaming computer mainly to play Diablo 3. I have never built a computer before so I am not exactly sure where to begin. I know I want it to easily handle the recommended settings for diablo 3. Can anyone recommend a full desktop setup for around 800?

A. see system requirements for Diablo 3 here:
http://www.gameshampoo.com/forums/threads/anyone-know-the-system-requirements-for-diablo-3.361/

particularly pay attention to the graphics card and memory (RAM) requirements

What's the lowest price computer that can run Diablo 3 on maximum graphics?
Q. Also: would a $500+ laptop be able to run Diablo 3 on max graphics? (my friend and I are having a debate on what price a good gaming computer should cost)

A. Lappys are not good for gaming at all. For cheap - only AMD A series (A6 and A8), otherwise you are looking at discrete video with $700+ tag. Or better get a gaming desktop which would be much better

I need a recommendation of a good computer gaming computer setup, help please?

Q. Let's say I have a budget of 1800 dollars Canadian (1700 dollars US). How good a gaming computer could I get for that amount or money? And I need somebody to give me some actual parts, like the CPU, memory and graphics card.

A. - Intel Core 2 Duo 2.7 Ghz and above (must have)
- Nividia GeForce Graphics Card (choose a good one with discrete memory)
- OS: Windows XP Pro SP2 (better for games, not Vista!!!)
- at least 1 GB Ram
- 17" or 19" LCD monitor
- a gamer mouse (try FX 7)

What and where is the best custom built gaming computer?
Q. I can surf the web for hours and hours looking for the right gaming computer. I would like to know what setup is the BEST for $1300 and under! I would want to be able to play Skyrim on full settings and be able to enjoy modding as well. I currently have a macbook pro that I use for video and music editing and I've played games like fallout on it with some ease, and a mac is NOT a gaming computer. So i know there has to be some great computers out there that are not $3,000. I've looked into Cyberpower PC's and they look promising, but i've also read alot of bad reviews about the parts they use. Anywho any help or tips on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

How to improve my computer for gaming?
Q. I have the toshiba satellite c655-s5212, and i am so mad that it blows at playing video games. I really want to play Day Z, and my computer just lags and is just awful for playing games. Can you suggest some software i can buy, or download, or something i can do that would improve my computer. Thanks

A. There really isn't much you can do, your laptop isn't meant for gaming at all. My best suggestion is to save up 500 dollars for a desktop computer, and try to build it yourself (custom made)...

Don't even bother with software (it hardly makes a difference), there is nothing you can do that will make that laptop run day z.

Sorry mate/ goodluck
