How to best gaming computer put together byself?

Q. Hey I wanted to know what computer components I could buy and install in a new computer to have one of the highest end gaming computers. Money is not an obstacle. A cool case and guide to putting them in would be nice.

A. I am always amazed to see people trying to put heaps of RAM on a computer to increase performance.
Read the article in the below link

What parts do I need for a gaming computer?
Q. I'm looking to buy a gaming computer. My money range is $0-$1200 and I want my gaming computer to play most games on max settings and those newer titles such as Battle Field 3 on normal/medium at least.I heard building your own computer is cheaper but I don't know anything about computers. Could someone please help and list good video cards, processors etc. and where to get them. Or you could just put a good pc for a reasonable price. Also can you put the links in your answers.

A. here you go:

Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 3000 BX80623I52500K - $225

GIGABYTE GA-Z68A-D3H-B3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard - $130

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL - $47

Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive - $125

ASUS ENGTX560Ti448DC2/2DIS/1280MD5 GeForce GTX 560 Ti - 448 Cores (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card - $280 ($260 after rebate)

CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX850M 850W ATX12V v2.31 / EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Modular High Performance Power Supply - $140 ($120 after rebate)

COOLER MASTER HAF 912 RC-912-KKN1 Black SECC/ ABS Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - $60 ($50 after rebate)

LITE-ON Internal 24x DVD-Writer 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL 24X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM Black SATA Model iHAS324-99 - $22

Acer S220HQLAbd Black 21.5" 5ms LED Backlight Widescreen LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 ACM 100,000,000:1 (1000:1) - $120 (1080p monitor)

Logitech Wireless Combo MK260 920-002950 Black 8 Function Keys USB RF Wireless Standard Keyboard and Mouse - $27

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit - OEM - $100

COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus RR-B10-212P-G1 "Heatpipe Direct Contact" Long Life Sleeve 120mm CPU Cooler Compatible Intel Core i5 & Intel Core i7 - $34

ALTEC LANSING BXR1221 15 Watts RMS 2.1 Speaker System - $30

TOTAL :$1200 ($1150 after rebate), this is the best COMPLETE BUILD that I could give you for that price, it is well balanced and it already comes with an aftermarket cooler and speakers. The monitor is 1080p and with the GTX 560 ti 448 cores you could play all games on max settings on 1080p with good FPS.

The GTX 560 ti 448 cores is a DOWNGRADED GTX 570 thus it is only slightly slower than the gtx 570:

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/499?vs=306

BTW, the motherboard that I have provided is SLI ready that is why I have given you the 850w Corsair PSU that is capable enough to support 2 GTX 560 ti 448 cores in SLI on a high end system with overclocking.

And since the GTX 560 ti 448 cores has the same power requirement as that of the GTX 570, then it will be our basis of how much power is needed in SLI:

Here is Guru3D's power supply recommendation:

GeForce GTX 570

On your average system the card requires you to have a 600 Watt power supply unit.

GeForce GTX 570 in 2-way SLI

A second card requires you to add another ~225 Watts. You need a 750+ Watt power supply unit if you use it in a high-end system (800+ to a KiloWatt is recommended if you plan on any overclocking).

http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-570-sli-review/13

So, basically, what I have given you is still upgradeable to SLI and you could still add an SSD (120 gb is good, but this is only optional). =D

What are the components I need to build a gaming computer?

Q. I have about 2000 dollars saved up for a new gaming rig, the only problem is that I have no clue what parts are the best for that kind of budget. THANKS!

A. With $2000 you have MORE than enough.

Either Go with a Tier 7 Mainstream build:
http://www.hardware-revolution.com/best-mainstream-gaming-pc-may-2012-geforce-gtx-670/

Or the Tier 8 Green build:
http://www.hardware-revolution.com/best-high-end-gaming-pc-june-2012/

You've got plenty of leeway to tinker. For example the GTX 680 really isn't worth the minimal boost over the GTX 670. Why buy a $250 motherboard when a $150 model works just as well? There's no reason to exceed 8GB of RAM for a gaming rig. And you can easily save money by choosing a smaller SSD or less fancy case. Personally I'd just go with a Cooler Master HAF 912 or Corsair 300R and put more money into the GPU solution.

A lot of people may suggest higher bang/buck configurations... anyway, if you're not too familiar with hardware just target one of the higher-end mainstream builds and upgrade a few things.

What are all the parts I am going to need to build a gaming PC?
Q. I have never really done this before. I have taken computers apart and put them back together. I have switched out parts from computer to computer. But I have never actually built a PC. Needless to say, this is a learning experience and a fun way I figured to blow off a $1500 bonus from work. Here is the kind of gaming computer I would like.

I want to be able to play games like Kill-Zone, so I need a computer that can handle the graphics.
However, I also want to be able to play old games from 2003-2006 (If I need to rip out parts from older computers I will).
I also like to download a lot of things on my computer. Like, a lot!
I also like to multitask.
That's about it.

A. Ok. List.
Graphics- Radeon 7600 Series.
Motherboard-AMD Radeon 7690.
Tradition cables.
Intel Quad Core Prosceesor, 2012 version.
A decen fan system.
For the casing. I'd go with a dell case.
Sony 2013 Disk Drive All Purpose
Chrome Browser.
An alienware monitor if you can find one.
If not the above. Go with a Dell 2012 24-25" LCD monitor.
Windows 7

What specs do you recommend for a gaming pc?

Q. I want to get into pc gaming, but I don't know much about specs (what's a cpu again?).
So I'd like some more experienced fellows to help me out here. I'm building a gaming-oriented pc (all genres, really). I think I have a pretty good budget, so come at me with all that expensive stuff! I'd like a few recommended specs and what producer to buy from. Also, if you have room left, maybe a small tutorial to what everything is, pretty please? Thank you very much in advance. P.S. I'll be installing Windows 8, since I'm already pretty aqcuainted with it because of my dad's pc. Just saying, in case it affects the recommended specs.

A. Graphics Card: You wonna play games your gonna need a good graphics card. Not sure how much money you have to spend on one so il give you a low price , medium price and a high price option. And you need a graphics card for pc gaming you need one.

Low Price Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 7770. For the low price of £120 (low price for gaming pc) it gives you good performance. Clearly for £120 its not the best graphics card but for a cheaper build not to bad and will run most games, maybe not maxed out settings but it will run them.

Medium Price Graphics Card: MSI HD 7950 Twin Frozr III Boost Edition for £240 or if you want somthing a bit cheaper go the Radeon HD 7850 at £160. Both good not much to say. Obviously the more you pay the better you get.

High Price Graphics Card: Asus Nvidia GeForce GTX 690 Graphics Card for £800. Which is yes very expensive, But very good.

Keep in mind these are not the only graphics cards at these price ranges but these are some examples.

Cpu (Central Proccessing Unit)
The CPU is the like the brain of the computer so needless to say it is very important. For gaming A quad core processor is needed. So an intel Core i5-3470 Processor woud be good But if you want to do stuff like video rendering, animation and doing alot of stuff at once maybe an i7 3770k would be better. Up to you just gaming the i5 is fine but if you want the best an i7. But what ever CPU you get make sure it is atlest a quad core cpu.

Ram
Doesn't really matter what type of ram, and ram is normally cheap. 8GB is a good amount for gaming but again if your doing bigger things like rendering HD videos and animations and stuff spend a little more and get 16GB of ram.

Hard Drive
For gaming get around a 1-3 TB hard drive. You may also want some extra storage like an SSD. An SSD is like a hard drive (used to store things) only its faster and holds less. So more speed but can't hold as much. However if you have the money get a hard drive and an SSD. Use your SSD for things you use alot and your Hard drive for other things.

Motherboard
I do not know a great deal about motherboards however i know what to look for when buying them. sata3
x8/x8 slots (IDK if you can get higher, i manly build on a budget that is just enough to get mobo with x8/x8)
"bonus" features
BIOS (this is purely taste, i like the bios of the new asus boards that let you use your mouse insead, also look if it has an "easy" mode if you are "new" to computers.
the ATX form factor (in other words the size)
if budget allows, heatpipes between the heatsinks
if budget allows, USB 3.0 front pannel

These are good features for a motherboard so when buying one look for them.

Power Supply
This depends on what components you buy. The more power the things you buy use the bigger power supply you will need to buy. The more expensive things normally use more power because they are more powerful therefor you will need a bigger power supply in your computer to run them. And when buying a power supply check how much power all the components in your computer use and then buy a power supply that is atleast 100W more powerful than the total power use. Just to be safe.

Cooling System
Cooling is up to you. You can get cooling fans or you can go for water cooling.
http://www.techradar.com/news/computing-components/processors/best-cpu-cooler-12-top-coolers-reviewed-and-rated-956968/2#articleContent
here is a list of some coolers

Case for computer
This is up to you but if you want to be flashy you can get some with windows and lights and stuff. Obviously this will not effect performance but you can if you want. Also some compters cases have better air flow which makes cooling the computer more easy. But other then that just make sure all of your parts fit in the case.

Thats just about it. You can choose you headset, mouse and keyboard youself although if your going into pc gaming i would get a razor mouse and keyboard.Btw make sure your cpu is as good as your graphics card. Because if your cpu is not as good as your graphics card it means that your graphics card will not be able to performe as well as it should, this is called battlenecking. Therefor try to make sure that the cpu and gpu (graphics proccessing unit) are of equal performance.

Also The k at the end of the cpu means it can be overclocked which means you can make it faster. But doing this without good knowledge can damage it. Making it faster makes more heat so you need to make sure you have a good cooling system if you play to overclock.

How much would a good gaming computer cost to build?
Q. I'm not asking for a monster gaming computer that would cost around $3000. I'm talking about a suitable one that can get atleast 45 fps on first person shooters with max graphics. I've seen some good ones for $600, but I'm willing to spend $1000 - $1500.

A. When doing perfect shopping, using Newegg for Avatar, CyberpowerPC, iBuypower brands and willing to change out the power supply, the savings versus build your own is often very small, especially for the ones they cut in price because of customer dissatisfaction about what they bought.

In building your own, I believe it is best to use the addage, plan twice and cut once. It should take a lot more time to figure out what to get, then the mechanical processes of ordering and assembling and install and test. You should be willing to learn about each component available, and that also allows future upgrade and repair and issue resolving to be much easier, and avoiding those future potentials.

You have the ability to decide your goals.
- Highest gaming performance per dollar spent
- Aiming performance towards particular games and function needs. Some need strong CPUs and Crysis-3 seems to use hyperthreading and all the cores(even 8 core) where most other use only 4 cores or less. Video editing takes a strong CPU+RAM and a solid state drive. Internet speed takes an SSD to improve it by the cache storage.
- Quality, stability, reliability
- Upgradability - ease of upgrade - (It costs more for a proper 2 PCIe x 16 motherboard and better power supply than you need up-front and the better air flow of a good case, but it allows a simple add of a second graphics card in crossfire/SLI). CPU sets the motherboard options, setting up the CPU upgrade options.
- Appearance, aesthetics inside and out

You need to hone down exactly what you want to spend within about $50, and if you want more help from hardware guys like me, you will have to name particular games more than a category. Are you ONLY interested in first person shooter games, or might you expand to others.

Pre-built PCs often use the cheapest power supplies and motherboards, and your advantage in building your own is choosing better parts that won't cause issues.
You can get a great gaming PC probably about GTX 770 and intel core i5 overclocked with a good motherboard and SSD towards the top end of your price that would be a tier one gaming pc with ultra play. The monitor/display is very key also. Is that included in your price, and keyboard and mouse and speakers, headset, etc. You need to list what is included.
Parts compatibility and optimizing is key. In PCPARTPICKER you can share a link to a part list and ask for improvements with a price in mind. They have sample builds, so I'll skip that minor task here for now. I preferred to give you the meat of the process. Watch youtube videos about the construction and take digital photos of an inside of an existing pc to be able to duplicate it.

What type of tv is best suited to use as a computer monitor to play computer games on?

Q. What type of tv is best suited for use as a computer screen for playing games. Does the graphics look great on the tv or better on a computer monitor? What are the pros and cons of using a tv as a computer monitor for computer games? Is there a blur on the tv screen just like when you move the mouse too quickly on a computer monitor?

A. No TV has better resolution than an average monitor.
HDTV is pitiful resolution compared to the average computer.

To put it in context- regular US tv (NTSC) is 640x480 (which is why that used to be the computer normal resolution). HDTV's more like 1024x768 (it's not that, but it's something near).

My computer's running at 1600x1200. No TV will come close to that resolution.

How do computer games compare to those released on PS3 and 360?
Q. I bought a gaming computer with a Gtx 460 and I-5-2500 processor... I currently am wanting to get into computer gaming but was unsure how the graphics would compare to those achieved on playstation and x box. Also besides a gaming mouse what other controllers are needed?

A. graphics wise depends on your system. pc are upgradable anytime therefore can have much better graphics than consoles. but it also depends on the games. u might want to buy a gamepad for games likes sports or third person. mouse is only good for FPS, strategy or MMO games.

What's a good gaming microphone for Pc that's not connected to a head set?
Q. I'm a big fan of the surround sound system that I have set up for my computer, and don't want to use a head set, so I'm looking for a mic that I can use for mmo gaming. I don't want a desktop mic either. That being said, I've looked into throat mics, but apparently you end up sounding muffled.

I guess I'm looking for a clip on mic, but I want one that won't start squeaking and squealing cause I have my speakers going.

Any advice?

A. some webcams have good mics so if you havent good a webcam you can get a hd one with a mic for about 30-40 quid maybe 20 if you look on ebay

What is the best gaming computer possible for under $400?

Q. What is the best gaming computer possible for under $400?
Excluding a hard drive and a dvd drive from total cost could everyone tell me what they would use to build a good computer for gaming
also i have a radeon 9200 graphics card

A. You graphics card is shit..It's too old for a decent gaming now.. This is the best I could do with it, it's $11 over your budget, but really!IT"S PRETTY DAM GOOD for $400 already, it's like double the performance of one of those $600 HP computers.
CPU-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103300
Motherboard-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138105
Ram-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231166
Video Card-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130468
Case and Power Supply-http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811156062
The power supply is not the best, but it'll work, ALSO, as you can see, I didn't include a OS, because I assume you already have an OS to use. You can also, double your video card ram if you spend another $20, I'd do it if I were you, it's REALLY worth it, especially if you play at high resolution.

Pros and cons of using a computer monitor for console gaming?

Q. I'm debating getting a computer monitor (specifically a 24 inch Samsung LED monitor) for my Xbox 360 and PS3 (and to use my computer on) and I am wondering about the pros and cons of gaming on it.

I can only think of pros (high resolution, fast response time, cheaper) but I am sure there are some cons.

Any opinions on this?

A. pros its better for gaming as better respond time, allot cheaper 23" monitor £120 1080p
cons most don't have speakers so need a different sound system
i use a 23" monitor and a pair of speakers and work Great

Is it possible to connect a PS3 to a lone HD computer monitor?
Q. I know you can't connect a game system to a laptop but I was wondering if it was possible to do this with a Computer monitor. The monitor isn't intergrated with the cpu obviously so I would guess that I could. I appreciate the help.

A. Yes, i use an HDMI wire from my ps3 to monitor, make sure yours has an hdmi port.. The speakers in the monitor kinda suck for me so i use the standard AV cables for sound, but HDMI for video

How important is the computer manufacturer if the comp has all the right specs?

Q. Hey everyone... I'd reeeeally like some advice. I'm looking to buy a new computer capable of gaming & running Windows Vista... so I need it to be pretty high performance. Of course, I'd like to stay on a budget as much as possible... so searching around I found a computer with the option to make payments in installments. It seems to have pretty much everything I need, all I'll need to add are video and sound cards.

My main question is just what the subject line says... how important is the manufacturer of the computer? This one is made by a company called Mirus who I can't seem to find much information on. A few sites have suggested that users "stay away" from Mirus, but I'm not sure if that's only because of customer support issues, or if it has something to do with the computer actually breaking down or something drastic like that.

So, if the computer has all the right hardware in it, does it really matter who put it together?

A. The question isn't "who puts it together" but "what parts go into it"? And the bottom line here is it depends on you. You might lean more towards a cheap unsupported computer if: You're good with computers and don't need much customer support; you don't mind troubleshooting hardware and software problems on your own (another computer in the house can be extremely helpful here); and if you don't plan on doing anything unusual with your software and hardware (installing old programs, hacking your hardware...). Or you have tech-savvy friends who, unlike me, will smile and freely offer to help you solve your problems for the next 7 hours.

With computer hardware as well as in life in general, you often get what you pay for. This isn't to say that you'll certainly have a problem with cheap laptops; but if you do you may end up pulling out your hair attempting to fix it. Of course many people with top of the line stuff also go bald attempting to repair computer probelsm too.

Part of the issue here is that cheap computers with all the "right" hardware are able to offer you good prices because of cheaply made hardware. You might be attracted to that 12x dual-layer DVD burner 48xwhatever, but there's a difference among hardware pieces. Sometimes one manufacturer will make quality name brand gear in one factory and junk in another, and one way to tell them apart is often price. Another way is when the piece of junk falls apart after 6 months, or doesn't seem to work with software or hardware that no one else has problems with.

If you're not a computer guru then customer support is very important. Even I have to resort to it occasionally and I've built and troubleshooted (shot?) computers. Recently I had to call Netgear and I had trouble understanding the reps accent and all he did was ask me to repeat my story a few times (I'm sure he was a very nice and hardworking person however).

Again the question isn't who put it together but what parts (and I mean nitty-gritty parts, the motherboard (maker and model!), the memory, the DVD drive etc) are in it.

You're absolutely right to be checking on line reviews. As with all info online (self-referencing here), take it with a grain of salt. However, consistently junky references about a manufacturer or computer can save your from a lot of future frustration.

Why do people love these brands so much?
Q. Apple
HP
Alienware

All of them have crappy build quality and are marked up so much that they're around 2-3x their build price. IMO if more people bought Lenovo, ASUS and Sager laptops, they'd be able to order more parts at once at cheaper prices, resulting in cheaper prices for the consumer.
Also, just a tip for anyone looking to buy an Alienware, don't. The best gaming brands are ASUS, Origin and Sager
For any business computer, Lenovo would be the indefinite choice.

A. True. For a business and reliable school laptop you want Lenovo. and gotta love support in the USA. not talking to india if you need hardware support.

And for gaming ASUS is definitely awesome.
Alienware is overpriced and uses the same if not crappier components than ASUS does.

HP is a common brand found in stores all over the USA. so probably why they are on top because any average joe, goes to best buy. looks around. finds an HP that's $100 less than something else and goes home with it then tries to figure how stuff works on it.

How do you think nintendo lead a innovator in gaming and how it change the interation between people and comp?

Q. How do you think nintendo change the iteration between people and computer and video games. And do you think the nintendo wii could help in some people in there healthy and how and why?

A. they have been an innovator in the sense that they have good quality products. I remember the Mr. Game and Watch games when I was a little kid. Those were the best little LCD games, I had several of them and played them all the time.

The NES was no exception. It was head and shoulders above the competition. Also they not only created hardware, but they had triple A quality software back then. Donkey Kong and Super Mario Brothers had a big following back in the day. Super Nintendo is still widely considered by long time gamers as one of the best gaming consoles ever.

Nintendo 64 had revolutionary 3D gaming and yet still used cartridges. Gamecube had the best hardware during that particular console generation, however they hit a slump as it was widely viewed by consumers as a game platform for kids. The next system they completely switched gears and bowed out of the race between Sony and Microsoft and followed their own path, to great success. The DS is also revolutionary, and yet it is inspired by the old game and watch design from the early 80's.

The Wii is revolutionary in the sense that it actually got people to get up and move around and have fun. My first day I had a wii I actually broke a sweat I was so into it, and my arm was sore the next day. That's a first in gaming :)

what should I write for the ending of my speech?
Q. As time has passed during the centuries there has now come a time when children have started becoming more inclined towards gaming then anything else. You may think game addiction is not a serious problem, but it can destroy peoples lives. This addiction has lead to loss of jobs, relationships and has even broken apart families. When you and your friends were playing video games and is always wanting to play the newest games. Have you ever thought of this as a disease or addiction?
There are many symptoms when you may or may not have a game addiction. For example Lack of control, If you were unable to control the time you have on a computer or any Gaming device and spends 15 to 20 minutes, but always extends the time to several hours. Negative Impact on Other areas of life, If you spend a large amount of time on a computer or video game console and you are constantly spending the amount of time each day. You will begin to not be aware of your distant between your family and friends, Homework may go unfinished, causing grades to slip. In other serious situation, some teens, for example may choose video games rather then taking a shower. The most important signs you see from a friend, family member, or yourself with a game addiction is if when you start playing a game and are happy most of the time, until you are no longer allowed to play and eventually have to stop, you begin to be angry or upset. If you ever kept thinking about going online or playing when you are suppose to be focusing on more important situations. Or when you spend more time on your computer or video game controller, then spending time with your friends. These warning signs will provide your parents, friends, and other family member to look for if they are concerned about someones use of video, computer, or internet games.
As technology moves forward, so does graphic violent nature of the video games. Violent games are most addictive and cause the most issues, then any other kind of game. This is one of the biggest problems because out of the most school shootings in recent years have been most gamers causing the shooting, There choice of games were dark and violent. In 1980 they released sony PlayStation, and thats when violence became an issue and threw the years while the graphics became lifelike, the more violent games, the more violent behavior. In order to win in violent games you have to be the aggressor. So rather then watching the violence on television, its like committing the violent acts. Most researchers acknowledge that this kind of active participation affects a person's thought patterns, at least in the short term. Another factor that concerns both researchers and parents is that violence in video games is often rewarded rather than punished. In army and sniper games, players "level up" based in part on how many people they kill. If played frequently enough, games like this can skew a young person's perception of violence and its consequences. Parents should realize the amount of time their children spend gaming and watch closely for any negative effects.
Video games are designed to be addictive, most designers make the game challenging, which allow players to achieve small accomplishments to keep playing. Its like gambling which will allow players to have small "wins that keep them playing. There are several hooks that make a game addictive. For example High scores, whether trying out the latest edition of Grand Theft Auto or havent played a game since Pac-Man, The high score is the most popular hook. When trying to beat the high score it can keep a player playing for hours. Beating the game is another hook, this makes most people play for days. Role playing, allow players to do more than just play they get to actually create the characters in the game and go on an adventure that's somewhat unique to that character. Consequently, there's an emotional attachment to the character, and the story makes it much harder to stop playing. Most people like to spend there spare time playing games, while others there friends, family, school, and even personal hygiene are neglected as nearly every spare moment is spent playing games.

so yeah thats my speech, what do I write for the ending?

A. I really don't know all i know is that you hit some key problems but some were kinda off, yeah some teens cant control there play time but most can, some do spend hours on end playing but most don't and yes games like grand theft auto 4 have drug, sex, and violence but its the parents job to control that not society, and when you say that people are rewarded by killing to level up, well people aren't as obsessed about leveling up as you think they are. the awards aren't like the nicotine tobacco companies add to "stay hooked". and if you think that online gaming all about "killing the enemy" its not.i take it more as a kinda paintball game mentality. this is what i say after every game"good game yall" of course it doesn't always go like that but thats how the real players should do it. honestly the foul language is probably the biggest problem and thats why online games should be for kids about 13 and over. and the last thing, the school shootings that have been happening is mostly because teens are able to get there hands on a gun that is the parents fault, you could say that video games teach kids/teens how to accurately handle and shoot a gun but really, thats not the problem they could find that out without video games (most don't know even with video games), the problem is that they could get ahold of one.

if you writhing this for a school project or something then go ahead get a 100 but if this is for a meeting or something i really don't think its an accurate display of reality.

Why am I starting to feel old when I play on those computer games?

Q. I was born in 1941, now I remember my son used to play on those arcade games and so I started playing with him. Well, come 2011 or so I decided to buy one of those playstation 360s or whatever they call it for myself and my grandson but whenever I get on and talk to the people online they always seem to call me old. Am I too old to be playing those computer games? I'm just enjoying what I didn't have as a child. Is that such a crime?

A. lol, "playstation 360's"... nah no one is too old, infact i think it's refreshing to hear about older people playing video games. The people giving you grief for it I'm guessing are just ignorant little kids themselves, I wouldn't take it seriously.

How much would it cost to build a decent gaming computer in 2011?
Q. I've been really wanting to build a gaming computer, but I'm not the most tech-savvy person on earth. I know I can probably do it for $1k, but I'd also like to know what components I should buy in the first place to build a pretty good gaming computer.
I already have a pretty good monitor, mouse, speakers, keyboard, etc. All I have to worry about is the tower.

A. I would say around $800 - $1000.
You can get an AMD Phenom Quad Core for around $150. You can get a Hexa core processor, if you want to be really upgrade proof. But that usually costs a lot more than the quad.
Motherboards typically cost $150 - 200. (Be sure to get a mobo that is compatible with the processor)
A decent video card that will run current games will cost you $150 - 200. I recommend the NVIDIA GTX 560.
RAM (depending on how much you want) will typically cost you $60 - 120. 6GB DDR3 is recommended.
Power Supplies will be around $60 - 100. I recommend Corsair Power Supplies, they also have a Gaming Series for gaming computers.
Case would be around $50 - 80.
Windows will cost you $100 or more.
A Hard Drive will be around $100. 7200rpm recommended. You can go for a solid state hard drive just for backups, they are around $120.
So yeah, around $900.
In the end, you will be saving LOTS of money instead of buying an Alienware.

is it possible to hurt your processor when replacing your computer w/ a more powerful power supply?

Q. i was replacing my 430 watt power supply with a 750 watt power supply so i could run my new video card. i turn my computer on but nothing pops on the screen. i then detach the PCI-E cable on the video card and i turn on my computer. my computer starts to run like normal but then just shuts off when i try to play a computer game. i turn it on again and it said it over heated. i allow everything to cool but it keeps on happening. i checked all the wiring and everything is where it should be.

A. You detached the PCI-e Cable?

It is not likely that your power supply caused this issue actually. It is far more likely that a heatsink is not seated properly, fan is not spinning or something of that nature. Have you tried running with the case open, looking for any fans that are not spinning. Have you checked your CPU heatsink to make sure there is not any dust/debris?

The fact that it acts up more when you try to play a game leads me to the video card.

What power supply should I buy for my PC?
Q. The power supply that came with my PC (Dell Dimension E510) is not compatible with my Nvidia GeForce 9600 video card. I need to buy another power supply and am not sure what to look for. I am running the graphics card as well as the default c drive and another interior hard drive. I use my computer for internet and gaming. Can anyone suggest a power supply for me? I'd be grateful for any assistance. Thanks!

A. The recommended minimum power supply for GeForce 9600 GT graphics cards is 400 watts with a +12V rating of 26 Amps for a single card, so make sure your system power supply can handle it.

I am putting building a desktop. What are the best parts I can look for a good price?

Q. I'm planning on building a destop computer for gaming. I mostly do online gaming or load other games on the computer. I'm also thinking of starting from scratch or rebuilding from an old XP.
What am I looking for and what is a good brand?

A. The March 2011 edition of MaximumPC has an excellent article on building a gaming PC for just under $1,000. You could also do what I did and just buy one from IBuyPower for $600.

How exately does each computer part work for gaming? (computer gaming expert needed!)?
Q. Also what would be reccomended for a 2011 pure gaming pc build? Like how much RAM will I need/use and so on?

I will choose the best awnser on whichever one has the most information and is detailed, THANKS!!!

A. OS: 64-bit version of windows 7 (premium, pro, or ultimate)
RAM: AT LEAST 6 GB! not the 1gb that the other guy suggested. but yes, ddr3
CPU: any AMD quad- or hex-core with a speed above 3.5gHz or any intel i5 or i7
GRAPHICS: you do not need to spend $500. you can get a good ATI card for $100, and a fine one for $50 (search newegg for radeon 5450)
HDD: 500gb will probably cut it if you have a tight wallet, but you can most likely afford the extra FIVE DOLLARS to get a terabyte
SOUND: whatever you want. most motherboards these days have 5.1 or even 7.1 built in, so a separate card is most likely not necessary.

A. that is a nice laptop, but as you are in college, the battery life is most important thing for you, usually the biiger the screen is, the lesse its battery will run.. Dont listen to the guys keep telling i3 and i3 or even i7 cpu, that sandy bridge pentium is capble of anything you accept from a laptop.
I would say a bigger screen is'nt really a benifit in a laptop when it can make your battery short and carrying it hard.. Go thru your options again and find one with best battry life/price ratio.. Good luck! :)

Quick Start Guide"

Which.. Is pretty much gibberish to me. Here's what I need the laptop for: I do a lot of drawing and photoediting in Photoshop Elements 8, and I use a Wacom Bamboo Fun tablet to do this. I cannot have this laptop lagging while I do that. I am also a horrendous multitasker, and I will type papers while listening to music and surfing the internet. I play a few computer games here and there, mostly tycoon games and Spore. Those are less important. Last but not least, I need this computer to be able to play video well, even when I'm drawing. DVDs, online streaming, Netflix, youtube, you know. It all has to run smoothly. Will this laptop deliver what I want?
Along with that.. This is going to be a birthday gift from dad. He really really doesn't want to be spending much more than $350 dollars on it.. Times are challenging, you know?

A. Well, this is DEFINITELY not the laptop for you. You like to multi-task, and this is a slow single core processor. You are going to do photo editing in a powerful program? With a very low quality integrated graphics card? This will not do what you want, especially with no lag. Try this--->

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/HP+-+Laptop+/+AMD+Turion%26%23153%3B+II+Processor+/+14%22+Display+/+3GB+Memory+/+320GB+Hard+Drive+-+Biscotti/1623912.p?id=1218273846151&skuId=1623912

This has a decently fast dual-core processor, a nicer graphics card, 3 GB of RAM, and 320GB Hard Drive space. This will get the job done for 30 bucks more. Don't like this one? E-mail me at monkeychow5@yahoo.com and I find one for you. Just include price please!

General use cpu benchmarking:

And, the very important shopping and compatibility:
http://pcpartpicker.com/
Graphics card power supply auxiliary connectors and a minimum wattage of high quality PSU
http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/Page362.htm
Understanding power supply selection basics, which is the least focused and one of the most important choices:

What is the best possible gaming computer I can get in my price range?

Q. What is the best possible gaming computer I can get for around 750-875 dollars? I have been looking for a while, but have not found a good computer yet. So if anyone can help, thanks!

A. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/19ZMp
This is the most bang for buck build in your price range. It will let you play all the latest games at probably max settings at comfortable framerates.

Where can i get a OK gaming computer for 100 bucks?
Q. Want to get a OK gaming computer for 100 bucks (used of course) Cause i only have 100 bucks, I really just want it to play combat arms and halo and MAYBE left for dead.
No it's 100% possible, I mostly want a computer i can upgrade my self, Like if it DON'T have a onboard video card, i can upgrade the video card and put more ram.
It can be old as long as it can be upgraded!!

A. How can you expect a pc of that cost. You can't even get an i3 processor for 100 bucks and forget about rest of the things. It would be better if you add more $100 and get an ipod touch 4g.

What is the maximum amount of RAM you can have in a PC at this moment in time?

Q. I have only 1GB in my computer which is almost 2 years old. But I've heard of some computers that have HUGE amounts of memory.
Also, what's the maximum processor that's available? (I only have Dual Core 1.8GHz haha, and I play online games)

A. Unless your motherboard is junk, your dual core Intel E series cpu will address 4GB under 32 bit Windows. A 64 bit build will address 12 GB in dual channel mode. However, your question was, "What is the maximum amount of RAM you can have in a PC at this moment in time?". The answer to that is in excess of 40 GB depending upon the setup. In a PC running Linux, the bios does not determine maximum memory. It is strictly a hardware issue. Mac OS X, which is a form of Debian Linux will use all of the memory you can throw at it. I have 32 GB in my 8 core Mac Pro. I have a Linux machine using a $75.00 motherboard, a 2.2ghz dual core & 16 GB ram. Gaming is phenomenal on this machine.
One last thing to remember: if you have a frame buffering AGP video card, especially a small one, your system RAM is going to take a huge hit. Fire up one of those online games, and open your system monitor. See how much FREE memory you have. You may need a vid card, and not more system memory. Cheers!

Should i have two video cards in my comp at the same time?
Q. I have a Radeon 9800 SE card (in my AGP slot) and a Radeon 9250 (in one of the PCI slots).
My friend says I shouldn't have both of these in the same time, but i really don't think it doesnt cause that much trouble.
Whos right?
but just for one computer
im not looking for extra monitors

A. It's not going to hurt your computer, but it's not really helping anything either. Typically if you have two video cards your looking for increase in performance or multi monitor setups. Since you're not looking for multi monitors having two boards will not benefit you greatly. Putting an AGP board in a computer next to a PCI board is only going to really be useful if your main video card dies on you; because you will have a backup.

If you're looking to do some serious gaming and want two boards you'll need to look into some newer hardware that can take advantage of having two vid cards.

is a good place to start doing some research on multi video card systems.

What happens when the CPU is the bottleneck in gaming?

Q. So I decided to build a cheap budget computer with everything basically costing under $100 total. The motherboard I chose comes with a Via Nano L2007 @ 1.8 GHz. Supposedly its performance is just above your average Intel Atom chip in netbooks.

Now if I were to use this for gaming and I have great hardware (eg. GeForce GTX 690, 128 GB SSD, and fast DDR3 RAM), would I be able to play modern games? Or is the CPU going to cancel out all the benefits from the other hardware?

Basically is the CPU really that important in modern games these days since most of the work is done by the Graphics Card?

A. Generally speaking; since RAM is so cheap nowadays the two most important components of a "Gaming Computer" are the GPU and CPU; skimping on either will definitely hinder your ability to game and result in a "bottleneck". That processor is a haul at 1.8ghz; honestly you could probably find a computer to scrap on Craiglists with a better processor (No offense. But seriously go junk a random PC and chances are you'll end up with a much better processor.)

How much would it cost to build a moderately good computer?
Q. I love me some computer games but REALLY don't wanna spend well over a thousand dollars for a comp that will be outdated before long. I've heard that building is cheaper. Any idea how much it'd cost for parts to make a decent computer? It doesn't need to be a tank, but I'd like to be able to play recent games without trouble. Would that be manageable with a 1,000 budget, or is it not THAT much cheaper?

A. The only difference between you and I is confidence. Once that little hurdle is overcome then it's smooth sailing. It honestly doesn't take a lot of experience to put a computer together. I mean they have orientation points on everything. Look at RAM sticks see that little slot in the middle. It makes it impossible to put it backwards. When you put a computer together make sure you use kid gloves. Think about it like an elementary puzzle. There are fairly bid pieces and if you force it and pound on it then yeah something will go wrong. If you use kid gloves everything will be jsut fine. Lets move over to your CPU. There is a triangle printed on the corner of your on your CPU as well as the motherboard. It may be a circle but there are markers on each piece that makes assembly fairly straightforward. Moving on to your GFX card. there is a slot on the left hand side of the bottom of the GFX card where it mates with the board. I also wouldn't make any sense to have the wrong side of the card facing out so backwards isn't happening here either. PSU? Screws are on one side and there is only one big square hole with places for your screw hole where your PSU can go. Now the motherboard? That has to be hard. If you look a bit closer at a motherboard you will see a LOT of holes and usually only 6 risers & screws to install it with. How in the heck are you supposed to make sense out of all the circuitry, holes and hardware? The screw holes will have starbursts surrounding the holes.

In a nutshell if you look a bit closer everything is clearly marked for ease of assembly. Take each piece of your build and go to youtube and watch an installation. See how simple pressing in and then plugging in a graphics card is. Watch how someone screws in the risers that the motherboard sits on and then see how the motherboard is screwed into place. You will see that when taken in small bites the process is rather simplistic.

Now we get down to your parts. I chose the 2500K so i will have to suggest that because it is in your BUDGET and you want your price vs performance to lean towards performance. the 2500K is really the HOTTEST CPU on the market today. Yes AMD's bulldozer is on the horizon but it isn't on the market yet and the price would probably be a bit steep at launch and I would still wait a bit to see if any issues arise. There was an issue with the 1155 socket at launch but those have been taken care of long ago. Anyways the links below will = your budget. This is just for the tower. Lets put the 1100T HEX core against the 2500K before I do this http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/203?vs=288. As you can see the 1100T and the 2500K are both at 3.3 GHZ and the 2500K only has 4 cores and the 1100T has 6. The 2500K is the clear winner especially where gaming is concerned at the bottom of the page. Anyways on to your parts.

Grand total after your MIRs $987

Want to learn how to overclock this AWESOME CPU from 3.3GHz to 4.2GHZ? Turn on, press delete, click overclocking, change the multiplier from 33 to 42, press F10 to save and exit and you're done. You could add in one step when you change the multiplier. Press backspace and click on green power and enable C1E. Just conserves power when you are only watching a movie or surfing. I own this motherboard so I now how simple a change to a number and enabling a power saver really is. I'm not an overclocker but this board/CPU combo makes the process easy.

What kind of computer is better? A iMac from 2006 or a Dell dimension e510 from 2006?

Q. The iMac has 3gb of ram and a 2ghz intel core duo with 2 cores. The Dell dimension has 4gb of ram and an intel penguin 4 processor. I will be doing photo editing and casual gaming like mine craft.

A. iMac
.
It is not based on MS DOS
.
And it has only 3 programs that start up when you start up the iMac
.
It is getting a little old but it is a fantastic one for a new bee
.
To the Mac World
.
Apple has a Mac Game Arcade that all mac owners can go to to buy any game that their Mac can use
.
1,350 games at this time with weekend spcials that give a new meaning to on Sale
.
I got Civilization V for $9.99 back in December
.
And 70% 0f the games have a demo that ya can download to see if you like it and if it is on sale for a weekend and you want to buy it 3 weeks latter you get it at the on sale price
.
And they just got Quake 4 for the Mac on the to be released list of pre orders it cost $19.99
.
Then there is the Apple app store for the Mac
.
That a person can get lost in just looking at all the free ones
.
180 of them and new ones being added old ones dropped
.
All the time
.
And everything you buy at the Game store or app store is on file as being yours
.
and if you get a new Mac you can go to the Mac Game Arcade or app store sign in and down load every game you purchased for as long as electricity is around

what kind of processors can the dell Vostro 420 mother board support?
Q. I recently inherited a dell Vostro 420 from a friend and am turning it into a gaming/photo editing computer. I've already replaced the graphics card and the power supply and am looking into a more powerful processor and was wondering what kind of processors the stock mother board in my computer can take so I know if i need to replace the mother board or not.

A. if your cpu is damaged or want to upgrade forget about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

because that mobo has lga 775 which supports 6 years old core 2 duo and core 2 quad processor that cost about 250$

so it is a waste you can built a nice looking system like this for 600$

For $605 (USD) delivered we can build:
INTEL PENTIUM G2120 3.10 ghz
Biostar H61MLV2 Socket 1155 VGA 6 Channel Audio mATX Motherboard

What's the best gaming computer for the money?

Q. I am looking for a good gaming computer but don't really have a thousand dollars to spend on it. I think that my max price would be from 300-500. Does anyone know any good ones? And I would like for it to be strong enough to play arma 2 and project reality. Thanks.

A. To be honest with your price range your options are limited. There is a budget build here: http://www.omfgnetwork.com/2012/omfg-network-amd-copper-build-2/ But it does not include the monitor, mouse, ect. But that all depends on if you want to build your own computer. Also Alien Ware tends to be more expensive than building it yourself, but you will not have to assemble it yourself.

Windows 7

What is the best gaming computer for me?

Q. I need a great gamign computer.

One that doens't get lots of viruses.
One that will be able to play games for the next five years.
A great graphic card.
Lots of ram (min 1)
A good processor.

And finally
One that cost less than 500 DOLLARS!

I know its hard to find one like this. But i am only 13, and i can't build one for myself, and so i need one to buy pre made. Thanks for helpign me out.

A. Look at best buy for a computer made by the company ASUS, they are the cheapest gaming laptops i know. I highly doubt that you will find a gaming laptop for under 500, i think the cheapest laptop to build would be around 800, im on a dell xps m1530 intel duo core cpu t9500 @ 2.5GHz, 4GB ram and a 512 nvidia video card for about 4 times that, so its gonna be tough.

Can someone help me build a gaming computer?
Q. Yeah I know this is the time because Starcraft 2 is coming out and my laptop video card sucks cock. So can someone help me build a gaming computer that will cost me under $500. Give me like wat kind of motherboard should i get, video card, blah blah blah you know what i mean. I know $500 is kinda low but im on budget rite now i just want starcraft 2 to run fine.

A. haha dude your funny, man i wish but if you want a gaming computer with no lag and stuff that plays games like call of duty , u lookin at $1000-$2000 easy. why not just get a console for like $250......
i used to be a computer gamer but now a console gamer cause it has more games and less exspensive
Source(s):
sadly computer games are coming to an end, but consoles are better :)

What is a good inexpensive gaming laptop?

Q. I need a laptop for games like Planetside 2, SWTOR, Guild wars 1/2, NBA 2k13 etc and for wording, and vchats. I use my computer a lot and my older computer that I am using at the moment is failing to meet my requirements. I heard that MSI is a really good brand so what is a good gaming laptop. I have around 500-800 dollars right know but I most likely will be able to have a budge between 800-1000 maybe 1100. Tips on how to make this money as a teen would be nice to. So please name some good laptops that would fit my need. MSI preferred other brands please state and the reasons why thank you and have a happy holiday.

A. wow.... you need good laptop that is fit for gaming. best gaming laptops are dell alienware but those will not fit in your budget so I recommend you dell xps 14 or dell xps 13 or sony vaio t series 13.

these are all best gaming laptops of today and are 3rd gen laptops so graphics cards and all are installed from before hand. also these come with the new windows 8 os which will completely change your gaming experience.

happy to help

Do most computer games work with Windows Vista?
Q. I've been wanting to buy this laptop, but it comes with Windows Vista Home Premium Edition built in. Would I still be able to install most computer games on my laptop?

A. You can probably install them, but running them is a different thing. Very few things work with Vista. Your printer, scanner, camera, sometimes the keyboard, mouse, CD & DVD drives all require new drivers and even then sometimes they don't work. It is highly doubtful that games prior to XP will work at all, and XP games have some problems, so I'm told by my friends who now have Vista and wish they didn't!

A. Turn down the graphics and sounds and effects. To make them less laggy it's is the ram and the processor speed

Can USB flash drives hold computer game memory?
Q. I've been wanting to buy a Sims game for my computer, but I don't want to use my computer's memory. I'm wanting to know if the USB flash drives will hold any of the Sim games memory.
I want to save my computer's memory as much as I can. That's why I want to use a USB flash drive.

A. Theoretically, but what's the issue with actually installing it on your computer? You'd get better performance if you didn't install it on a USB flash drive. And if you're that close to filling your hard drive, you may want to clean it up a bit, delete files that can go, back up and remove files, or get a bigger hard drive.

How much tv or video games do your kids engage in?

Q. Do any parents on here have a system for allowing their kids to watch tv, use the computer, or play video games?
Do any of you let your children regulate that themselves as long as their homework, chores, etc are being done?
Do any parents make their kids earn time to play video games, watch tv, or surf the net?
Briefly, what is your approach to this, and why?

A. Do any parents on here have a system for allowing their kids to watch tv, use the computer, or play video games?
No not really.
Do any of you let your children regulate that themselves as long as their homework, chores, etc are being done?
Yes, because he is very good at not playing for HOURS at a time. He plays xbox for like 30mins to an hour. Same with TV. He plays with his toys, or outside, or with his sister, or he reads.
Do any parents make their kids earn time to play video games, watch tv, or surf the net?
No not really. As long as everything else is done, he is free to do as he pleases.
Briefly, what is your approach to this, and why?
See above and the reason why is that I see no reason to change his habits when he does pretty good for a 7 year old boy. He gets good grades and he is a nice well mannered child.

Is America becoming too much of a nerdy society?
Q. We are preaching in schools that standing up for yourself is never right and children and adults alike are becoming fat. We also have many kids that overuse the computer and video games. Kids are not going outside as much.

A. For alot of social groups, it's uncool to be smart. I don't think you have to worry about America being "too nerdy". It's one of the worst education systems in the world.

What you are complaining about is technology and it's effect on society. We are naturally lazy, but technology helps us become even lazier. Combine that with poor education systems and there is big problems.

Parents need to teach their kids the value of getting some sun, getting some exercise, and eating healthy. Same as always. There is no doubt that technology makes it easier for the bad parents to have the xbox babysit for them. But bad parents will always be bad parents.

If I had my way, parents would need a license, the same way they need a license for their car. However that's another issue.

How does my computer affect my power bill?
Q. I have a computer running off a 400w PSU and it's always on. When I use my computer i usually push it pretty hard (gaming, video editing, photoshop), and i was wondering what sort of impact this has on my power bill.

A. i run a 1100 watt power supply and my pc is always on. plus a 28 inch lcd monitor . i dont even use the power saving options. as a matter of fact I turn all the power saving stuff off for performance and my bill isnt that high. its within normal .. but i must say i am very good about turning other lights off and things of that nature. I highly doubt 400 watts is going to make that big a diffrence though i would have to say somewhere in the nature of maybe 20 to 50 a month higher.. I very seriously doubt the higher end of that especially if you have a power saver on your pc which many do. it doesnt ALWAYS use 400 watts. and you have to have alot of things on it to max out that 400 watts..

i think youll be fine. like i said. ive been running 1100 watt power supplies and they are maxed and its not that much more. gaming is your most power hungry activity and how often will you game pushing it really hard.. just to let you know i run a 32 man server which is always full 24/7 and im always on the pc myself. and my bill is NEVER over 140.00 and i live in HIGH BILL MARYLAND. which just became the highest electric bill state in the country..BGE our electric bills went up 75 percent since last year because the state woudlnt let them raise the rate for ten years so its really went sky high. some people need vouchers in this state now.

hope this helps..
