Computer Gaming Spec. Help?

Q. I want to upgrade my computer so I can play Minecraft with a 64x resolution texture pack, and record Minecraft videos with Bandicam. I have 4GB RAM, I have an Intel Pentium Dual processor, 64 bit OS, and I don't quite know the processor, I know it is not a gaming kind for sure though. What should I upgrade to do what I need it for? And HOW do I install it? I want my price rate to be under at least $500.

A. Is your computer a generic/custom unit or a brand-name unit from Dell, HP, Acer etc? Is it a regular tower or a smaller slimline model? If it''s a brand-name computer what's the exact model number?

You'll probably only need to upgrade two things (your graphics card and power supply) but it's possible you'll need to upgrade the CPU as well. Minecraft doesn't have high hardware requirements.

The first step will be finding out exactly what you've got now. Download one of the free utilities to find out your computer's details, including the motherboard model. I recommend either SIW or CPU-Z which are available on download.com:

http://download.cnet.com/SIW-Portable/3000-2094_4-75449686.html?tag=mncol;2
http://download.cnet.com/CPU-Z/3000-2086_4-10050423.html?tag=mncol;1

Either of those will identify your current CPU and motherboard model. Post that information, then we'll know whether your current CPU is fine for Minecraft + recording. We'll also know what type of graphics cards your computer can accept (although in all likelihood it will be PCI-Express).

To find out your computer's power supply capacity you'll have to remove the cover and look at what's printed on the power supply label. If it's less than 300 watts, you'll want to replace it.

The minimum graphics card upgrade I'd recommend is a Radeon HD 6670. And for $20 more, you can get the Radeon HD 7750 or 6770.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121442
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102969
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121474

The 6670 and 7750 both run fine on a stock 300 watt power supply. But to install the 6770 your computer needs a 450W or higher power supply. So you'd need a new PSU in addition to the card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371045
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371030

We'll need to know the specifics of your current CPU & motherboard model before we can suggest any CPU upgrades (if that's even required). Different motherboards can accept different models.

For games, 4Gb of RAM is plenty. 8GB helps for heavy multitasking and makes your system future-proof, but not even the highest-end games like Battlefield 3 and Metro 2033 use more than 4GB of RAM. Applications which require 8GB or more are video editing software like Sony Vegas and design/rendering programs like AutoCad, Maya and 3D Studio Max- not games.

Building A Gaming Computer?
Q. i need some help on building a computer a semi budget
i need a good mother board
it this a good one?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128358

also im thinking or running a intel core 2 quad q6600
and G.Skill 2GB ram 800 MHZ
also im thinking overclocking from 2.4ghz to 3.0 or more
so i am also gonna use the Tuniq Tower 120 universal cpu cooler 120mm

but i dont know what else i need i was thinking of putting a Nvidia Gt9500
and other stuff im a begginerg and idk nothing.. can you guys give me some good parts i can buy so i can have a good gaming computer that can take alot of gaming requirements.
thank you. ( Starcraft 2 =O )

A. First of all, get more RAM. 2GB is nice, but 4GB is better and you'll probably only end up paying about 25-30 dollars more.

Second, don't overclock. These days, processors aren't usually the bottleneck on a PC. Many games offload the vast majority of their math to the GPU, so your processor will probably be under a pretty light load while gaming. Overclocking it will just reduce its lifespan, void its (and possibly your motherboard's) warranty, and risk damage to itself and your motherboard. I don't see any reason to do it. If anyone out there wants to correct me, feel free.

The motherboard looks great. It appears to have won an award from Anantech (a popular hardware site) and has a lot of great reviews from users.

Get some faster RAM. 800Mhz isn't bad, but 1066 is better. Check out some of this fancy Corsair Dominator RAM (just $75 for 4GB!): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145214

As for the video card, the 9500GT isn't a bad chipset. It's mid-range, but since you're working off a budget here, then there's no reason to go higher now. However, you might consider going with an ATI card. The reason for this is the motherboard you picked supports Crossfire technology. Which is great for someone like you building on a budget because you can get one mid-range card now and then, when you have some more money, you can buy a second copy of that card and use them both at once rather than having to buy a more expensive card and discard the one you already paid for. Just make sure the card you get supports Crossfire.

As far as the after-market CPU cooler goes, I'm really not a fan of those. Generally using a 3rd party processor cooler voids your warranty on your processor. I've always gone with the retail box version of processors and just used the included heatsink/fan. The included heat sink/fan with a processor is designed for that specific processor and comes set up for use with it. With a third party heat sink, if there's any compatibility problems or if you incorrectly apply the thermal paste or something than you could be out a processor and a motherboard. Save your money and just do the retail box CPU and use the included heat sink.

You have the main components down (as far as what's important on a gaming machine). Anything else (DVD drive, hard drive, case, peripherals, etc) is up to you. Just a couple points:

-Get a name-brand power supply that's at least 600W. If you do end up running 2 video cards, you're going to need a lot of power and you'll want it to be reliable. 750W or more wouldn't hurt.
-If you can afford it, get an SSD for your OS and games to reside on and then a larger traditional hard drive for your data. This can introduce a pretty impressive speed increase. But this can be expensive, so treat it as optional for now.
-Go with a SATA DVD drive if you can find one at a reasonable price. It's much more future-proof because you never know when motherboards will start shipping with no PATA.
-Consider going with a 64-bit operating system (specifically Vista 64-bit). Your motherboard will support 16GB(!!!) of RAM, but a 32-bit OS will only support between 3 and 3.5GB. If you want to add more RAM later you don't really want to have to buy a new operating system to go with it. I run Vista Ultimate 64-bit on my desktop and it works just fine.

yahoo games?

Q. I have enjoyed playing yahoo game in the past. Recently my computer had to have window xp installed and now I can't play yahoo games on line. Does anyone know why I can't get the applet to load?

A. You probably need to update Java

To play games on Yahoo with no hassles from your PC please read on, do one thing at a time till you get in, or do them all for hassle free games on yahoo.....
Make sure you pop up blocker is OFF (top of your browser click tools, a pull down menu will appear with your pop up blocker)and once in the lounge click "options" bottom left of lounge and choose the small tables option

If problems still persist read on...........
Yahoo will not tell you when they update, they just do it. So when games/chat have a problem you can bank on it that Yahoo have updated..and Yahoo update often...When yahoo updates you must update as well

there are 2 choices of Java you can use.......Sun Java and Virtual Machine....some prefer the sun java
but the Virtual Machine works better for games and you do need Java to play in games, ( without it some won't get in and if some do get in , they won't stay in games)

Update............. -- If you cant log into chat/games it is because Yahoo's browser has issues with SUN java as default, the coffee cup sux... The Virtual Machine Java works better with yahoo. Yahoo is Java dependant.
This is also the reason for the games applets not loading and some web cam issues. The easiest fix is to update , make sure all your windows are updated
Click this link http://www.freecreed.com/pm.html ... ...
and choose what is your best option.

N.B. It is unwise to use Sun Java and Virtual machine together, this may cause conflicts
After December 31st 2007 Virtual Machine will not be supported by Microsoft, there will be no enhancements. Which means VM will still work, but will not be updated
http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/java/

and clean up after yourself> http://www.freecreed.com/speed.html

read on if you still cannot get in

Right click your explorer icon on your desktop......click properties..then the general tab (top left)..in the temporary internet files section (middle), choose view objects...see all Yahoo downloaded programme files?
if any are damaged, right click them and delete them..they reload each time you logg into games..right click them all and choose update, or bite the bullit and delete it.......it reloads each time you logg in

yahoo games site freezes my computer?
Q. the second i log into yahoo games, the main page stops responding and freezes my computer. not game specific because i don't get that far. this is the only site that does this. any ideas?
Well, first of all thank you for all of your input. I have tried all those things. It's not a pop up issue. The very second I get to the games home page from the main yahoo pages it says not responding at the top of the page and it freezes. I am able to go in through yahoo messenger and play all the games now, just not through the main games home page. It does work on another computer, just not the one I usually use. It stopped working 2 days ago. Frustrating beyond belief!! I just don't understand what the issue is. At least I'm able to get in through yahoo messenger....

A. Lets start with this, games use java to run.
update java
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual...

Now do this;
Yahoo games open with a pop up. Turning them off like Yahoo mistakenly says doesn't work very well! Most toolbars like yahoo and Internet explorer have pop up blockers! When you try getting in lounge or room and it doesn't work. click on pop up blocker on yahoo tool bar. On the drop down list click on Always allow tab it will say recent pop ups blocked. high light Yahoo.com then click allow. On google blocker click on blocker and it will allow site.
. IE browser settings to allow pop ups Right click on Tools, internet options, privacy tab, cookie over ride. Type in www.Yahoo.com, allow then ok. If you see a blue gear with tools beside it, Click on it and a drop down list will have pop up blocker listed.Type in www.yahoo.com, click allow.
This is the proper way to use the pop up blocker. I have never had a problem or had to hold any keys down to get in.

Next to keep in in games longer;

The most common reason for your problem is an easy fix!
Yahoo games use virtual memory to play. Running low or out of virtual memory causes game to freeze. Increasing your virtual memory helps with the freezing/getting booted problem. You can increase your memory by going to start button, settings, control panel, system, advance tab, performance, advance tab, virtual memory, change it, make it 1200 kb or higher, In both boxes, click apply then ok .

Internet explorer works best with yahoo games. If you are trying to use Foxfire make sure Sun java is checked as default java as it will not work with msn virtual machine java
Go to tools, internet options, advance tab. Scroll down to Sun java check it and java scrolling and JIT.

If you get an error saying you need flashplayer go here and download flash #9

What is the Best Gaming Computer?

Q. What is the Best Gaming Computer? Price is not an issue.

A. The best gaming computers available are the Falcon Northwest Computers, which will run you $4000.00-$10,000.00. Specifically, the Falcon Northwest Mach V computer. The Mach V starts at $8000.00, but can go up. A review of this computer can be found here:

Help with old computer game?
Q. I want to play a game on my computer, but i can't install it! i have tried every way i can think of, if you have a special way of opening a game up, what is it? please help!! thanks!
It's Barbie Detective. There you go, Andy.
NO, I don't want a new computer. JUST GIVE ME A WAY TO START THE GAME.

A. The problem with old computer games is that you can't just install them on a new computer, because they were made only for the old computer. For example, I have a game called "Impossible Mission" which I can't run on my new computer that I got this year because it was made for my old Commodore 64 computer.

What you need to do is find out what operating system your old game used, and then get the emulator for that. Windows is terrible about being able to emulate other operating systems, so you will probably have to Google the system you are looking for and then download that particular emulator. For example, in my case, I needed to download a Commodore 64 emulator.

Alternatively, many old computer games have been re-made as new Flash games, or new Browser-based games. Take a look at what is out there today and see if your old favorite is around with a slightly different title.

Good luck!

every time i go to any game site to play i get kicked back to my desk top why? not very computer smart?

Q.

A. that means either

1) there is something wrong with either the computer or the site.

2)you clicked/typed to much before the game started

3)your computer is taking too long to load

4) you did a million of things on the computer while it was loading

5)you've been on too long/forgot to shut down the computer.

Do use of a desk top computer raise energy bills?
Q.

A. Yes as they use electricity they raise your bills more than if you didn't use them.

For example, lyou have a big high-end computer with a gaming-level graphics card and an old CRT monitor, and you leave them on 24/7. That's about 330 watts x 24 hours x 365 days/yr = 2,890,800 watt-hours, or 2891 kilowatt-hours. If you're paying $0.14 per kWh, you're paying $405 a year to run your computer.

So depends on your efficiency of your computer and monitor(ie wattage rating) and how often you leave it on for.

Fun video/computer games for a 9 year old boy?

Q. My son asked for some games for Christmas, but when I asked him which ones he wanted he just shrugged and said "new ones." (By new, he means ones he doesn't have yet, not games that haven't come out).
We have a wii and an xbox, and he has his own PSP and access to a family computer. Anything that doesn't seem super girly, babyish or is rated M is a viable option. If you know a good M game that is on the milder side of M, feel free to suggest it
And please don't lecture me about "the dangers of video games," my son is a good boy who loves sports and spends a lot of time outside. He's not a psychopath or a couch potato.
Thanks!

How do computers make video games?
Q. How does computer technology help make video games? Are computers the ones used to make video games?

A. Well, one could either accept that it is through magic...

... or realize that video games are programmed, just like any other application running on a computer (either a general purpose computer or a video game console - or a cellphone or other mobile device, even).

To introduce you to computer programming, you could consider testing out Python, perhaps even using the Pygame framework - http://www.python.org , http://www.pygame.org

Windows 8 computer games?

Q. Are there any games like GTA or Skyrim that will work on windows 8? I've tried GTA IV and had absolutely no luck. I almost regret buy a computer with Windows 8.
I figured it would be compatible as well, but I can't get it to play for the life of me.
In fact after looking on amazon where I downloaded it from, it even says not compatible... I feel retarded.

A. Quote

You have now found out that you can't download and install what you want with W8. You should have done some very serious research into W8 systems before you bought it. You are going to learn what W8 means to the MS Zombie the end users eventually, when you start paying through the nose for all the W8 software,

W7 software will not run on W8 systems. All software for W8 has to have the MS UEFI digital signed signature before it will install and run, and to get that you have to buy all the software from MS,

If you want to run your computer the way you want to run it, and not be controlled 100% by Microsoft then you are going to have to jail break it, MS is in business to make money, They are not in business to make the end users happy, remember that in the future.

If you want to or feel like jail breaking from W8 and Microsoft then send me a message I'll tell you how to do it.

windows 8 for gaming?
Q. I just ordered my first gaming computer, and chose windows 8 over 7 simply because its the latest.
was that a mistake?

A. I used to have Windows 8 Enterprise, It was absolutely AWFUL for gaming, Most Steam games said that you had to own a Microsoft OS to play these games, Who knows, It might work on the full release though. It's just that I was using an old computer, So, That kinda messes up my answer, :P.

I need a gaming chair, Something comfortable, durable, and stylist. Any suggestions?

Q. I'm a professional gamer, I sit for long periods of times. 5-8hours, maybe longer. budget: 150$
I want something that will provide comfort, but also remain durable. I sit at a computer desk so it's higher. No low on the floor gaming chairs.

A. Here arm some comfortable gaming chairs

Most of the chairs are black and are very stylish and will match anything. I found 2 gaming chairs that are higher then some gamer chairs but still some what on the floor. Most of the links are office chairs but they would be great for sitting at a desk all day and they can be used for gamers.

Is it ok to use an arm chair when gaming for long hours?
Q. Hey just a quick question, so when I am on my computer if I don't use the arm chair my will be scraping off my computer unit which is quite uncomfortable bearing in mind my chair doesn't have adjustable height. This happens because my arm is on an upwards slant when reaching for my desk which can be rather annoying.

So the main question, is it ok to use an Arm chair when gaming for long hours?
Ah forgot to put, this is when using the mouse :P
Sorry but I am 2m and weigh around 65-70kg anyway back onto topic.

A. It's not okay to be gaming for long hours anyway, fatass.

Don't lie, fatass. You probably can't get out of your own chair.

What is a good gaming computer build between 500-750$?

Q. I'm looking to build a gaming computer and i can spend between 500-750 dollars not including monitor, mouse, keyboard, and speakers. I dont really have a clue how to start building or what parts i need. I know websites like newegg.com sell individual parts. I dont plan on trying to play crysis or any games with that high PC specs. Some games I play are, Voyage Century, Killing Floor, and I plan on getting Star Craft 2 when it comes out. Could you give me some parts I need that will run those games? (I know i need a mother board, graphics card, sound card, and all of that but i need some specific ones like GeForce 9300 or something that will run those games) Thanks Alot
I'm not looking for a super good one that has a $200 video card and top of the line parts. Just a build that can play the listed games.

A. With some creative shopping, you can actually build a seriously powerful gaming system that could handle Crysis for $800. The key is chasing down combo prices

gaming computer 500-750 dollars?
Q. what is a prebuilt comp that can run BF3 on 1080p hopefully about 60fps? i have looked around newegg im not sure exactly as which to get.

A. why buying a prebuilt when you can build it yourself, just read few tutorials about assembling the computer parts;
if you're interested to learn, here's the link:

Will this computer be good with Games (Quake 4, Oblivion, WoW)?

Q. I have found this laptop off the internet and have some questions about it:
1. Is it worth what your gonna pay for it ($1450)?
2. Will it run Quake 4, Oblivion, and WoW well (I really want good performance on WoW)?
3. Is it a fast computer?
4. Should I get it?

Here's the link to the laptop you are evaluating for me:
http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/pdet.to?seg=HHO&poid=403664&tab=reviews

(if the link doesn't work the laptop is called Satellite X205-S9800 and you can look it up on Toshiba)
Edit- I do not GODLY speed, I used to get 10-12 FPS in WoW, so I'm really looking just for like 20-30. Please don't recommend any other laptops unless there just as good for a cheaper price. Thanks

A. Yea, that computer looks pretty good for all the games. WoW will run amazingly well, Quake 4 and Oblivion will also run, but you might need to turn the graphics down a bit. I've never run either on a PC, just on the X-Box 360.

Good Gaming computer for WoW?
Q. My current computer is 10 years old and just Straight up SUCKS. I want a up to date computer that won't make me stay at under 20 fps average.

A. I would recommend an Asus tower or a Dell XPS (or a custom rig, which are always the best), but you can get WoW to run decently on pretty much any new consumer desktop, since it has very low system requirements. I would recommend at least 3GB of RAM and a 2.2GHZ CPU (Dual Core at least) to be able to play the game decently. Of course if you want it to run beautifully you can always go grab something with a new overclocked hexcore processor and about 10GB of RAM and a good video card or two. But to get over 20fps all the time you really don't need anything that amazing.

What is a good gaming computer?

Q. I am currently looking for a good gaming computer that isn't too expensive.

A. The only way to get a good gaming computer "cheap" is the DIY build, IMO.

If you have $800 to spend, you can get a solid computer. The monitor, speakers, keyboard, and mouse are additional costs to this $800.

You'll need the following:

Case
Power Supply
Motherboard
RAM
Video Card(s)
Hard Drive(s)
DVD-R/RW Drive (and/or Blu-Ray)
Keyboard
Mouse
Monitor
Speakers
Operating System

Go with an AMD CPU and you'll keep your costs down. The motherboard should support DDR3 RAM, and your video card budget should be as high as you can go. If you can get 2 cards (must be supported by your mainboard), you will rock.

Get some kick ass 7.1 Surround sound speakers.

What exactly are you looking to spend? I will do a write-up on a build that will fit your budget. Please let me know if you need speakers, monitor, mouse, keyboard as well. I recommend a gaming keyboard and mouse for gaming purposes, obviously.

My computer speakers...?
Q. Recently when I was playing an online game and every once in awhile i'd hear a low grumble or muffled sound coming from my speakers. It never made that sound before. I have Alte[ Langsing speakers which are amazing. When I test my speakers sound comes from both. When I unplugged the speakers and plugged them back in I still heard that sound. Are my speakers slowly dying? I hear it every once in awhile when playing the online game. What can I do to see if my speakers are dying?

A. It,may be,not problem with the speakers, but with the game,Try to go on Youtube and play songs
for half an hour and see,if it ever happens again

Gaming computer for runescape?

Q. Would this computer be able to play runescape with max detail settings and full screen?

A. Don't buy a computer based on a video game you probably won't be playing a year from now.

I want a gaming computer for runescape?
Q. Okay, I am really looking forward to the answers! Please, only real answers.

I am wanting to spend around $1,000-$1,500 on a gaming computer that will handle Runescape in Direct-X / Anti aliasing x4, all the settings to the max, full screen, and be able to run in the wilderness or the grand exchange and record using camtasia or hypercam without ever lagging. My computer right now is good, but my loading screens take forever, and i lag like crazy in the wilderness, or the grand exchange, or anywhere crowded with people. I am willing to spend 1,000-1,500 on a computer. Please give answers/links. I searched up alienware, but idk. Thanks!
For the people who say runescape is gay;

The wilderness and free trade and staking just came back on february 1st, and it's amazing again.

A. take a look at this site-CyberPower PC. http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/

I brought my gaming pc this monday for 1041.05 (plus shipping)

and since you will spend up to 1500 you can get even a better one than me.

But really for Runescape at max it wont take more than 1000 to build.

For you Intel I7 950-980 x4 or x6 core

or

amd 1050-1100T x4 or x6 core CPU process be way fine enough

for graphic card: Raedon 58xx series graphic card be awesome enough
or geforce 460x-570x be good.

Look at the site and pick the parts best for you.

www.speedtest.net to test your download speed. If your download is less 5mbps then it a piece crap mostly like the cause of the lag.

Does this Gaming Computer look decent?

Q. How does this computer look? Its right in my budget, it can play the games i want to play and high-max-ultra settings. (Battlefield 3, CoD,SWTOR,Star Craft 2). I know its not a high-end gaming computer but do you think it will be good for the next few years? Able to play upcoming games and MMOS? Also does everything look compatible and good for future upgrades?

Ok so i made it into the 7770 (since the summer sale has a free upgrade from 7750). I added in basic pro wiring and took out the speakers/got the cheapest case. With shipping im about 30 dollars over my budget, i need to reduce it so i was wondering if i reduced the watts to 700 instead of 800 if it would harm my gaming chance at all? (the standard was 600 and that played all the games i want). I was also wondering if switching from 8gb memory to 4gb would hurt it alot. Or if switching to the 4 core processor over the 6 core. (Doing one of those things, no matter which, will put me in my budget)

A. Personally the 6 cores only really work with future proofing if this is only used for games, the gpu is a little weak but not a bad one the 7770+ is normally what people use but it will run everything fine and it's a good computer

what would be a good, inexpensive computer for medium gaming?

Q. i am looking for something in the $700ish range.

A. hp, dell, and there are TONS of laptops out there for your "700dollar-ish" range. I recommend you should buy new laptops at best buy or walmart. Gaming...make sure the computers ram is pretty good and also the graphics/video card. Thx and hope this helps.

Good inexpensive gaming computers?
Q. I don't know much about gaming PC's since i've been using console my whole life. I want to switch to gaming on PC but I need help on finding a good inexpensive one. Like under a $1,000. I want one for Christmas but I can't go too expensive. I want to play games like World of Warcraft and stuff. Thanks.

A. Building your own is a great idea. Don't listen to The Stig, that desktop won't get you far with gaming. If you want to buy a premade, iBuyPower has a great clearance sale going on right now, and their computers are essentially the same as building it yourself, they are just more expensive. Big name brands from Bestbuy like HP tend to have subpar parts, weak cooling, and overall weaker performance so they look good on spec sheets.

Price and setup building a gaming computer?

Q. I've decided to build a computer for gaming though i don't want to customize it on some website,
there are many other posts about this kind of thing i realize
i just want one MORE RECENT (2012 february-march)
So the price cap is about 1000-1200 dollars,
i COULD go over that but it would take me a bit more time to get the money so i would have to be prepared for the computer to last longer to account for that time :)
So I'm looking for a comp that can run all the new games etc. etc. decent amount of ram, at least 6 gb
NOT Looking for the monitor, keyboard, mouse just the computer
sorry I'm dragging this on but i don't want to edit this post a million times :P
If it helps, i would be running 2 klipsch-thx speakers and a subwoofer, so i dunno if that has anything to do witht eh sound card...
So really I'm looking for a complete set up, like if someone out there could list all the different parts/specs of parts i should get but whats most important to me is SPECIFIC parts as i am not that great at rummaging to find compatible hardware

Thanks in advance!
EDIT: I already have Windows 7 Ultimate that i can put on another computer just a heads up:)
ALSO
I made an email for this
PLEase if anyone is willing to further help me as I'm sure i will run into problems

Now I put a solid state drive there for your boot drive and any main programs you will be running, any media I would put on a second drive that is a normal HDD like 1TB or more, they are pretty costly and your selection is limited still with things still being cleaned up in Thailand. expect to pay another hundred or so depending on the size, just read reviews and pick one. I'm not sure what you will be doing graphic wise but the first card should be more than sufficient, and if not its an easy upgrade. You could go the Intel route but I prefer AMD and that 8 core processor is nuts. You could also get an after market fan which is another $50 or so. but all in all those all solid top of the line products with all the latest technologies, you will be future proofed for a very long time and you have plenty of room for upgrading if a new processor comes out or something. also you will need a copy of windows unless you already have one which would set you back another $100. also in benchmarks the AMD effects blows away the I5s and anything in the price range.

Great gaming computer?
Q. I'm looking for a gaming computer that will run on full settings and will not be laggy. I mostly play Dayz and I want a computer that can handle that and a bunch of games easily. I don't know much about computers and I don't want to spend of 1200$
Thx

A. Yahoo answers will only allow up to 10 links, so I have to leave out the not so important components. Just copy paste in the search field on Newegg to find them, I will give the full name but no link for those.

BEST GAMING DESKTOP PC BUILD FOR THE MONEY (under $1,000.00USD for the tower only)
Monitor, keyboard and mouse can add from $175 to over $500, depending on size and model you want.
All prices are in $USD and in the USA, current as of December 2012 and they might be slightly different one way or the other by now.
Also, some shipping charges may apply to some of the items.
Add your state sales tax if you reside in NJ, CA or TN - that's where Newegg has warehouses.
Look for similar parts on Amazon, Tiger Direct, etc if you want to avoid paying Uncle Sam.

FACT: INTEL IS A MUCH BETTER PROCESSOR FOR GAMING THAN ANY AMD.

Building a gaming computer! Spec tips? (please help)?

Q. Im building a gaming computer because i have an ACER laptop which actually does handle games decently with minor lag.(games like-TF2, Minecraft,Garry's Mod, Arctic Combat and thats really all i know..)What would you say the The actuall specs are for playing games like Battle Field 3 and games like ARMA 2 and ARMA 3. i need to know because developers of games always say that you need a high tech NVidea to play Minecraft, but my Intel integrated sh*t, handles it just fine.
I just want to know what specs you guys would recomend. If not specs a gaming laptop that hanles all games fairly well for a cheap cost.(i prefer gaming laptops rather than desktops)
My acer specs just in case you happen to need them-
Intel Cleron processor 900
Intel GMA 4500M
3GB DDR3 Memory(RAM)
250 GB HDD(164 remaining)
4-cell Li-ion battery
Acer Nplify802.11 b/g/n (whatever the hell that is)

A. I wouldent get a gaming laptop but a decent gaming computer could handle those games well

Cheapest computer that will run Games for Windows?

Q. Where can I find a computer that has good enough specs to run these games. If you dont know what I mean, Im talking about Gears of War PC or Halo 2 PC. The ones that will get you achievements. They all have minimum requirements to play them. I already have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers. I just need a tower. What is a good cheap gaming computer that will run all of those games? Thanks

A. BUILDING A GAMING PC.
do you have what it takes to build your own pc?
it's not as hard as most people will try to tell you it is and with a little research and a few hours of reading you will be able to gain the knowledge of how the whole process works.
there are alot of good sites around that have great articles and videos that will help to show you how to put a system together step by step.
for a better understanding of what a gaming pc is and what specs/parts you should aim to use,
try these keywords in a google search "building a gaming pc" & "budget gaming pc" and read
some of the articles that show up, but to help you save some time i have also included a few
of the links that i found to be very help full.

link 1.
this site was packed with loads of good info but involves a lot of reading but as a result
when you have read as much as you can then you will have a better understanding of what it is that you are trying to build.

http://www.build-gaming-computers.com/index.html

link2.
this link will take you to a great set of videos on youtube that show all the steps of building a computer, there is seven separate movie that show you a few steps at a time.
i would also suggest downloading realplayer 11 if you don't already have it so you can download and save these movies to your computer for future reference.

http://au.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=7D3AC490264241EA

to download realplayer:
http://www.download.com/RealPlayer/3000-2646_4-10073040.html?tag=mncol

the next 3 are a bit less reading intensive and you will quickly find there suggested parts list.

MY BUILD LIST..........

with a budget set at $2500 consisted of these parts.
( mid December 2008)

keyboard and mouse - Logitech Cordless 1500Rechargeable Desktop USB (OEM) $96.80

total cost $2406.40

(note all prices stated in my build list are in australian dollars)

and if after reading all the above you are not you are still a bit uncertain about taking on a build yourself you can always
talk to friends that may have done it before and ask for there help,
or take a parts list into a few computer shops in your local area and see what prices they can give you for building the
system that meets your needs, also searching the keywords "good computer shops in (add your home town here )" in Google and
look through some of the forums to see what people are saying about the computer stores in your local area to see which ones
may be the best to go to by the comments that others have left.

i hope that the above information will help you in achieving your goal.

Help building gaming computer for $500 or less?

Q. So basically, all I need is a new video card, cpu, and I need more RAM memory and a bigger hard drive. If it matters, i'd like to play games like Doom 3, Left 4 Dead, Fable, Mass Effect, Oblivion, and probably Skyrim and Battlefield. How much would those pieces cost? I don't want the "ultimate" setup, I just want those games listed to look and play better than their console counterparts. I'm on a $500-$600 budget.
Damn, I feel like an idiot now. But, i've got a stock HP pavilion a6683w. Everything on it is stock, not sure if that helps...
k623dnowman Would all of that stuff be compatible with my hp a6683w?

A. For $500-600 I can't guarantee you'll be able to play Oblivion, Skyrim or Battlefield at settings high enough to make them play better than they do on console.

You mentioned needing all but the three most defining parts of a computer: the case, the motherboard, and the power supply (PSU). These three are what will determine what RAM, CPU, harddrive, and video card you can put in your computer...particularly your PSU and motherboard.

Even assuming that your PSU is capable of outputting enough wattage to support your system regardless of what parts go into it, I can't recommend you any parts until I know what motherboard you have. Because you can't just mount any CPU on any motherboard, and the same goes for RAM and graphics cards (though to a lesser extent).

EDIT**
HP, huh? Well without looking at it personally, I can't say for sure, but chances are they jipped you on either the case, the motherboard, or the power supply. What most brand names like Dell and HP don't mention behind the typical specs like RAM and CPU speed is that they often use the cheapest motherboard and lowest wattage PSU they can get away with. After all, why should they future proof your system for you? They'd rather you just bought another computer from them when it comes time to upgrade.

Again, I can't say all this for sure since I don't know what the inside of your computer looks like. But if you're willing to build a computer, you're better off raising your budget by another $100-200 and just starting from the ground up. You'll probably encounter less obstacles that way.

Building A Good Gaming Computer For Less Than £500?
Q. Hello there, as we all know it's only 6 months until it's Christmas again, and i would like a fairly big present this year, a gaming computer, now.. i'm only 15 years of age and don't have a clue on how to build my own computer, i have heard it's possible to build a gaming computer that can run modern games on medium settings (Which i don't mind, seeing as i don't really see much difference) and i know it's A LOT cheaper than buying a pre made one and updating that. I am extremely intrested in the area too, i would love to fix/repair computers for a living when i am older, i just find the fascinating, so this may be a great way to start learning, but i could also screw up and loose the whole computer, so my first question is, is there anywhere in the UK that will build your computer if you bring them the parts and how much would it cost? My second question is where and what should i buy? what is the latest CPU, Graphics Card, Motherboard and other things, what cases are the best? room to have more Hard Drives? and is there a website that could give me a clear step by step guide into making my computer?
My budget is around £500, but my mum and dad may be willing to go a bit over, depends on how much of a difference the upgrade would make, so anywhere between £500-£700 would be great, I'm really interested in gaming and I'm always on Xbox/computer, but my current laptop can not run modern games, so I'm looking to upgrade, so basically ANY infomation would be great, and thank you in advance, :)

A. Hey, welcome to the faith!
Building your gaming PC is by far the best route to take.

For £500, you're quite limited but seeing as you only wanna run games on medium, you're sorted.

I reccomend this processor -
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Intel-Core-2-Quad-Q6600-2-4GHz-Processor-/200618221813?pt=UK_Motherboards_CPUs&hash=item2eb5c720f5#ht_542wt_1139 -
old but still one of the best around.

This card -
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Zotac-Amp-2-NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-260-216-cores-/290577103918?pt=UK_Computing_Computer_Components_Graphics_Video_TV_Cards_TW&hash=item43a7bebc2e#ht_1232wt_1139

this processor cooler
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Arctic-Cooling-Freezer-7-Pro-Rev-2-AMD-Intel-CPU-Cooler-/160553263879?pt=Computing_ComputerComponents_Fans_Heatsinks_SR&hash=item2561b86307

a motherboard like this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Gigabyte-GA-G41MT-S2-Motherboard-Intel-775-DDR3-Quality-/220780264543?pt=UK_Motherboards_CPUs&hash=item3367877c5f#ht_5756wt_905
- you can get much better - so look around - im just taking into account budget here.

and this ram
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-2x2-4-GB-DDR3-Kingston-Memory-1333MHz-PC3-10600-/230632449706?pt=UK_Computing_ComputerComponents_MemoryRAM_JN&hash=item35b2c3e6aa#ht_1827wt_905
- again - you can get better but that will do just fine.

Case is a matter of perferance so have a look around - i reccomend ebuyer.com for cases.

Hope this helps! you may be interested to know that the processor, graphics and cooler are whats in my own PC which is maxing all the games i play on it (just cause 2 GTA4, test drive unlimited 2, COD Black Ops). And I have slower, DDR2 ram! :P

Also, you'll need this for your processor:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Arctic-Silver-5-Premium-Thermal-Compound-3-5g-/330574808717?pt=Computing_ComputerComponents_Fans_Heatsinks_SR&hash=item4cf7cb468d#ht_1964wt_905
- by far the highest quality thermal paste.

Get in contact with me if you need other help.
Good Luck!

Are these computer specs good enought for gaming and recording?

Q. I want to run this game called AVA and my internet is roadrunner, I usually get 25-60 but 30-45 usually and 120-160ping and I want to fraps too, so anything to make it not lag while playing and frasping, anything but get a new computer(mine is a laptop)
Specs:
Dell 1545 Specs Processor : 2.1 GHz Intel Pentium T4300 dual-core processor.

Hard Drive : 250 GB hard drive.

RAM Memory : 4 GB of installed RAM with 800 MHz speed (maximum capacity)

Graphics Card : Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD graphics with up to 1750 MB of dynamically shared memory allocated by the system .

Webcam : 1.3 megapixel webcam with facial recognition software automatically secures your computer when youre away. This software adapts to your changing looks so you can expect faster login times. Also, theres no need to remember numerous passwords for password-protected Web sites.

Optical Drive : 8x multi-format DVD drive supports reading/writing of CD-R/RW, DVD±R, DVD±RW, DVD±R DL, and DVD-RAM

Wi-Fi : 54g Wi-Fi networking (802.11b/g). Fast Ethernet (10/100).

A. You can play on low settings (window mode). Your video card is out of date. recording game? Like fraps? or music? Nope, ur computer will be super laggy when using fraps with that setup. But recording music is fine.

Very nice gaming computer for cheap?
Q. I really want to get into recording YouTube videos and doing commentaries on pc but step 1 is getting a nice gaming computer. I don't really know a lot about video cards and gpu and all that stuff it's rather confusing so if someone could explain that to me it'd be helpful. I guess my price range would be somewhere from 500-800$. I'd like something that is able to easily handle mainstream games like skyrim and call of duty with minimal to no lag. If I need more money to get a computer that can run those games in high performance mode let me know and I will start conserving more money.

A. While 800 is a good start for a gaming rig, basically you will probably end up "saving" money on the parts like an after-market cooler, a cheaper case, a cheaper mobo, a cheaper hard drive, in order to buy a decent GPU (Graphics Card).

So i would suggest start saving money now, and in the meantime, read a few guides on how to choose parts for a computer. i'll explain the basics here:

Computer is 9 parts (in order of importance):

-PSU (power supply unit, provides power, no power = no juice, also very important not to save money on THIS part, if it goes down, it can take other parts with it)

-CPU (processor, that's the chip that's inserted into the motherboard that actually performs all the calculations that are involved when opening files, playing games, etc)

-CPU cooler (a device used to evacuate heat from the CPU, without which it would burn out in less than a minute (no joke, if u turn on your system without this installed, by the time you see something on your screen your CPU will have already been damaged). It usually comes with the CPU, and is most of the time easy to install, especially with Intel's processors.)

-Motherboard (uses a BIOS, basic input/output system, and acts as a medium between all the components. So if your components are people calling each other, the motherboard would be the telephone service provider, linking them together in the right way)

-GPU (graphics card, generates your picture on the monitor, some CPU's have built-in GPUs, but they aren't for gaming)

-RAM (random access memory, usually varies between 4, 8, and 16 GB nowadays for gaming systems. It's like the short-term memory where stuff is put only while its being used and then thrown out, unless saved onto the harddrive. An oversimplification would be to say that RAM influences the speed with which your computer analyzes data)

-Harddrive / Solid State Drive (HDD/SSD, respectively) (this is where the data is stored in the long run, like your movies, pictures and so on. hard drives are mechanical and have spinning components, they are cheaper and offer more storage for the buck, SSD's on the other hand don't have spinning parts, making them MUCH faster at transferring information to/from them, however they are also more expensive.

-Optical drive (that's where you put your cd

-Computer Case ( that's the box where you assemble your computer)

Ok so those are the basics.

Now you'll need to determine exactly how fast you need your system to be. Since its a gaming rig, you'll need to save as much money as possible for the GPU(s) yet still make sure the rest of the system can adequately handle your other stuff like video editing and what not.

Here are a couple of websites you should read about how to choose parts, as well as others that offer you hierarchy charts and best/value suggestions on graphic cards and CPU's :

guide to choosing parts :
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/257075-31-guide-choosing-parts

This month's article about best CPU's for the money:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106.html
(it has 6 pages, don't miss them)

This month's article about best Graphics Card for the money:
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107.html
(again the interesting stuff is on later pages)

That first link has links to other guides as well, if you're interested.

Some good companies that i like for different parts:
Motherboard (also called mobo): Asrock, Gigabyte
Hard drive: Western Digital (WD)
SSD: Intel
PSU (manufacturer): Seasonic
PSU (brand): Corsair, Seasonic, NZXT, XFX
CPU cooler: Cooler Master (hyper 212evo model)
RAM: G.Skill

I don't mention brands for GPU and CPU, because there are only 2 big ones, and they are pretty much a matter of taste and personal experience, i like Intel and Nvidia, others may prefer AMD and ... well AMD (used to be ATI, they now produce both processors and video cards)

Hope this helped, if you have more questions, or additions to your questions, just edit your post in a way that makes it clear what you have added. ( for example you decided you want a specific graphics card and want suggestions on a system that will be built around it, hint hint, this is how i would do it in your place :D )

computer speakers?
Q. i accidentally deleted the sound card, or whatever it is called, from my computer and now it says there is no audio device installed even though my speakers are connected correctly. does anyone know where i can download it??
i have windows xp

A. Right click My computer, open properties.

Select hardware, Click device manager.

The sound card's driver which you have accidentally deleted will have a yellow question mark on it indicating that this device has no drivers. You can double click and verify that it doesnt have any driver installed.

Note: Look in sound, video and game controllers

Double click the device, and then select Drivers from the window, from here you can install/update the driver.

Insert your microsoft windows cd, seach for the driver in your cd rom, windows folder, or you can ask windows to search on the internet.

Other option is to note down the name of the vendor, and open the website of the manufacturer and download the desired driver.

Hope it helps :)

A good Computer Gaming build?

Q. I am trying to build a computer myself and was taking suggestions on the parts i should buy preferably from Newegg.com (computer will be used mostly for gaming)

A. Depends on your budget. If it's under $1000, try an AMD Phenom II X4 955 or higher, or a FM1 A8 APU. The APU is a little faster, and can run crossfire with a lowend GPU like the 6570.

For over $1000, but under $2000, get a 1155 socket processor, preferably the Intel i5-2500k. It is almost identical to the i7 in performance, for only 67% of the price.

For over $2000, get a 2011 socket processor.

In any case, you should pair that processor with a compatible ASUS motherboard that meets your needs. If you plan on doing crossfire now or in the future, you will need a board that has 2 or more PCIe x16 that can do x16 or x8. The more pricy boards have more of these, and that's that biggest difference. I would not recommend anyone else, except maybe MSI and the lower-end Gigabyte. The higher-end Gigabytes are built poorly, and they seem to have issues implementing advanced features. If you get a 1155 socket processor, make sure to get a Z68 chipset, or at least a P67. You'll have to lookup what are good chipsets for the other sockets if you don't get a 1155.

You should also buy good RAM, like Corsair Vengenace LP. I like the LP because then the RAM heatsink doesn't prevent the CPU heatsink from being mounted properly. Make sure to get 1600 or 1866 MHz (anything higher is a waste of money).

For harddrives get a 7K Western Digital or preferably Seagate drive. Hitachi is also good, especially on the 2tb and 3tb drives. You can either get 1 drive, 2 in RAID 0 or RAID 1, 3+ in RAID 5, or 4+ in RAID 10. RAID setups allow for higher transfer speeds, while protecting you from a harddrive failure (except 0, which is only faster). If you use an SSD and a RAID array, you can use cheaper 6K drives (5900RPM) from Seagate, and then use RAID 1 or RAID 5. I have a Corsair Force GT SSD with 3 Seagate 6K 2TB drives in RAID 5, giving me 4TB of redundant data.

For a power supply you need at least a 430w Corsair CX, a 500 or 600 if you're using a high-end videocard, and a 750w TX or larger if you're running 2 or more cards.

For a videocard, get either a XFX or EVGA. They have quality cards that have lifetime warranties when registered. A 560 Ti or 6870 is about where you should be looking at for cards. If you can afford it, go higher or get multiple. But unless you have the APU (CPU+GPU on the same chip), and then getting the matching 6570, you should not go lower than a 6770. Even the APU isn't going to perform well with games, unless you're using it solely for the CPU with a beefier card, and not doing crossfire. I would only recommend doing the APU crossfire for a budget system, as it will yield better graphics and comparable CPU to any i3 or phenom low-end computer (~$500)

The case you use is largely inconsequential. Just get something that looks good, and has good airflow. Don't buy a case with just 1 fan at the back. Make sure to get something that includes at least 3 120mm fans.

Finally, buy an aftermarket heatsink. I like the a70, with arctic silver 5 thermal paste, but you can research for yourself what heatsink will work best for you.

Christopher

PS:
Nice picture Derrike. Too bad it doesn't show 2011 socket.

Help me build a Future Proof 2011 Gaming Computer?
Q. Building a new gaming PC XD
Here is my current setup:
Antec Nine Hundred Mid Tower case
CrossfireX SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6850
OCZ 700W modular PSU
AMD Phenon II X6 six-core CPU
8GB Corsair DDR3 1600 RAM
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
OCZ Vertex 2 2.5" 60GB SATA II MLC SSD
ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 CPU Cooler
Anything else I missed that should be on an essential gaming system?

My main concern is the motherboard:
MSI 890FXA-GD65
has SATA 6GB/s and USB 3.0 and runs 2 PCIe 2.1 x16 slots at dual x16 speed for full CrossfireX!!!

but with PCIe 3.0 coming out later this year on hardware im wondering if i should wait it off?
Any suggestions from those that are tech savy??
Isnt sandy Bridge also going to be expensive as hell just like current processors?
(im srry, im not paying $1000 dollars for a six-core!)

Why Cooler Master Hyper 212+ instead of the Arctic Freezer Pro??

A. Sandy Bridge is not that expensive. The current top of the line SB CPU (i7-2600k) can be had for about $330. The 2nd fastest SB (i5-2500k) can be had for about $220. Both these CPU's overclock like mad. Mine is running @ 4.7 Ghz and after 12 hours of Prime95 never got above 59 degrees. They are *much* faster for gaming that anything AMD has out. Actually the Phenom X6's are outgunned by Intel's older i5 and i7's when it comes to gaming. If you're looking to future proof, the X6 isn't the way to go.

The video cards are an ok choice, I'd spend the extra money and go with SLI'd GTX 560 Ti's though or Crossfired 6950's. You're trying to future proof right?

Pony up for a better PSU, I'd go with a Corsair 750 watt PSU or a Silverstone. XFX PSU's are pretty good as well.

I'd go for a Corsair H50 CPU cooler, it's reasonably price and will offer superior cooling to that of the Freezer 7 or Hyper 212. It's also much smaller in size and makes it easier to work inside the case.

Don't get overly concerned with x16 slots. Right now there's very little performance difference between the x8 and x16 slots (it's about 1%-3% difference, with a high end card like a GTX 570)

Also you'll need a hell of alot more storage space than 60GB.

a good gaming computer for 800 dollars?

Q. i have a budget of 800 dollars. i probably will be able to go maybe 50 more, but thats it. I DONT WANT TO BUILD ONE! DONT EVEN SUGGEST IT! ok, so i play games like minecraft. no games like the sims, although i do plan on getting the old republic. what is a good gaming computer for my budget? and i know this sounds lame but i would preffer one that is really cool, like i want it to light up on the sides and all that stuff. i dont need it though!

A. Here is one with quad core and fine hardware, just upgrade video card to ATI 6750 or GTX 550 and it will run any new game on high settings - comes with overclocked CPU, would be a beast for under $800 shipped free.

Where could I buy a good gaming computer for $800 dollars?
Q. I really want a gaming computer but I only have $800-$1000 dollars to spend. Where could I buy one that actually works well and plays most games. (Skyrim, Minecraft,Fallout 3,etc.)

A. You would be better served by building your own! Often the "factory" high end machines are NOT as high end as they clam! and they add a lot of unnecessary bloatware and peripherals you don't need. You can make a very nice game rig for $800....$1000 will make a REALLY nice one!

What is the best cheap gaming computer?

Q.

A. You can build Gaming computer with low end specs to play games on low setting or build a nice Gaming desktop to play game on medium and high settings .
Cheap is something gaming computers are not .

a good, 'cheap' gaming computer?
Q. Hey, I play world of warcraft on a 7+ year old emachine that restarts itself constatly. I'm forced to play on the lowest settings while the game is evolving towards HD and improved graphics. What i'm really looking for:
-GOOD graphics card / monitor, HD maybe?
-smooth gameplay
-these conditions without blue screens :)

I'm not the best with computer-lingo, but is it possible to get a computer that has the components for those requirements without other overkill/uneeded features? Thanks!

A. The words "good, cheap, gaming" tells the tale. You can't get that. Also a gaming system is a system that's built with "overkill/nueeded features". The system you have now is what you have described and it's not suited for gaming.

This system would run your WOW decently and it is cheap.
