How can I improve my computers performance while running a game?

Q. Hi,

I've gotten back into playing Company of Heroes, but I get very slow frame rates and the in game performance rating is in the red.

The thing is, my computer exceeds the recommended specifications.

Here's my systemrequirementslab results:

http://i274.photobucket.com/albums/jj268/snakes_pit/reqs.jpg

Can anyone help? I'm extremely frustrated by this.
I currently am using IObit's Gamebooster and SmartRam to attempt to help, but it doesn't make too much of a difference.

A. Hello.

Hope you are fine.

How to Improve Gaming Performance:

If your gaming experience is choppy and lagging while running some of the newest games, try making the adjustments below to get a better gameplay. This article provides ten tweaks on improving PC gaming performance.

When trying to improve gaming performance, its important to optimize the graphics card settings, the overall system performance, and the in-game graphics settings. Before trying any of these tips, you should first check the system requirements for any game youre trying to play. If your system doesnt meet the processor, graphics card, or memory minimum requirements, then you have an issue that these tips wont fix and youll need to look into upgrading your computer.

INCREASE VIRTUAL MEMORY:

Virtual memory is hard drive space that is set aside for use when Windows runs out of physical memory. By increasing the virtual memory, you can ensure that your games have access to all of the memory that it needs. Most newer computers have 2-3 GB of disk space set aside for this, but some slightly older systems (with smaller hard drive) only have 512MB-1GB. As a general rule, I usually put it around 3GB. To change this, go to the Control Panel > System > Advanced > Performance Settings > Advanced > Virtual Memory Change. Then, change the amount and click Set.

UPDATE VIDEO CARD DRIVER:

Updating the video card driver can not only improve gaming performance, but it can also fix issues that are known with certain games. To update the graphics card driver, I usually find the manufacturers website and search for drivers directly through them. That way, I know that Im getting the best, most current release of the driver.

SET VISUAL EFFECTS TO BEST PERFORMANCE:

Graphics settings are governed by both the graphics card driver as well as the Windows operating system. You can adjust the Windows settings to display effects only when it wont have a significant effect upon performance. To make this change, right click on My Computer > Properties > Advanced Tab > Performance Settings > Visual Effects Tab > Click on Adjust for Best Performance. Youll notice that this is the same area that you go to adjust the virtual memory.

ADJUST SHADOW DETAILS:

Adjusting the amount of shadow detail in games can significantly improve performance. This can be done in each game, but first you can make some general shadowing changes through the graphics card properties panel. This will vary between graphics cards. Generally, you can access them by right-clicking on the Desktop and choosing Graphics Properties. This can make a huge difference in gameplay, but you will be sacrificing some of the visual appeal of the game.

CLOSING OTHER PROGRAMS:

This may seem like a no brainer, but it helps to have all other applications closed when playing PC games. Any program that you can close will free up resources for your gaming. Every little bit helps. So, close those browsers and torrent applications before launching your game.

DISK DEFRAGMENTER:

Use some sort of disk defragmentation tool to clean up and organize the files on your computer on a regular basis. I prefer using Diskeeper 2008 instead of the free Windows one, but either one is better than nothing. Defragmentation occurs most commonly in files that are accessed frequently. You can imagine how fragmented game files can get, and over time, that will affect the performance of the game.

DISABLE ANTI-ALIASING:

This feature can be turned down or disabled altogether to increase performance as you are essentially decreasing the visual effects of the game.

ADJUST EACH GAMES SETTINGS:

Each game will have its own list of graphics settings and options. You want to try lowering these settings as little as possible, but in some cases, you may need to lower them all the way to get a playable performance. In this way, you are adjusting each game to run better on your system. Optimize your system settings first, and then adjust the games video options as you must.

GAME PATCHES:

Some games may have issues with certain video cards, so the game manufacturers oftentimes release free patches to improve stability and performance on top of in-game features. Some games will do major updates automatically, but in many cases, you will need to navigate to the manufacturers website and download the patches manually.
UPGRADE GRAPHICS CARD

One of the most obvious solutions to poor gaming performance would be to upgrade the graphics card. This, of course, costs money, and some older systems may not be able to be upgraded to the latest and greatest cards. I would say that if your PC has a PCI-express slot, then any upgrade you do has the potential to be very worthwhile. I would recommend buying from online computer retailers such as NewEgg and Tiger Direct, as they offer much cheaper prices than physical retail stores.

Hope you like it.

Thank you.

How to improve framerate on computer games?
Q. There is a game I bought for myself today, called "Chivalry: Medieval Warfare." I downloaded it through Steam, but I am currently encountering one game-breaking problem- THE FRAMERATE SUCKS. I don't normally experience this, so I turned all the visual settings down to the lowest possibilities to help improve. It improved it a bit, but I still cannot experience any good gameplay until it gets fixed. I have deleted a lot of old games off my computer to try to improve on this, and it still hasn't improved.
Do you have any suggestions on how to improve the fps?
I already have used it without any other tabs open, and have already reduced the quality to a minimum to attempt to improve it. Also, I have played offline custom matches and had the same framerate problem.

A. FPS can be improved with having better internet connection. Another way to increase it is lowering graphic settings down to the lowest and allocate more memory to it. You can also go to task manager and make sure that there aren't many task running only keep important stuff on thats the most i can help with.

Help! Husband and son addicted to computer game!?

Q. My husband and 12-year-old son are completely addicted to an online computer game. They play it from the moment they get home until well past my son's bedtime - literally 4-5 hours a night, and much longer on weekends. The only thing they'll stop playing for is if my son has baseball or soccer. This game has totally consumed their lives.

Now, my son is doing fine in school, is in great physical shape, and has tons of friends (who also play this stupid game, although not nearly as much). But I still feel this is very unhealthy! But my husband insists there's nothing wrong with it - it's their way of relaxing, bonding and spending "quality time" together. And he points out that he spends a lot more time with our son than most fathers do - which is probably true.

My argument is: wouldn't it be better to spend some of that "quality time" doing something else? Going fishing, building a doghouse, making model airplanes? Even some good old-fashioned TV watching?? But my husband counters with: how is any of that better? What's it matter what we're doing, as long as we're together having fun?

I don't know how to reply to that! Does he have a point? Is it really okay to spend 10 hours straight on a Saturday playing a computer game? I just can't see how that's healthy - but I can't come up with anything else to prove my point!

HELP!!

A. Some computer games are extremely addicting and can seriously ruin peoples lives if not taken care of. Some games even clearly warn you about possible addiction on the back. Let me tell you a little about my personal experiences with games like this.

It all started four years ago when i bought a game called World of Warcraft. The most addicting game that exists. There are millions of people around the world that play this famouse game and get addicted to it and sad to say i was one of them. Me and my friends would play this game every singal possible moment we could. Though i wasnt as addicted as my friends i still would play the game well over ten hours if i could. My friends would skip school to stay home and play the game, they would stay up days playing it for days! After 4 years i finally realised that what i was doing was wrong and if i keept going on like that i would seriously mess up my life. I found the power to quit that stupid game after 4 years! Sadly i cant say the same for a lot of my close friends who to this day are still addicted. They hardly ever leave their house! It is really hard to get over the addiction if your really get into it, it has been described worst than drugs. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/earthnews/3338422/Video-game-addiction-'like-being-on-drugs'.html

This has not just happend to myself and my friends, this game has been on the news sevral times for causing deaths and putting people in the ER. Some kid stayed awake for 3 days playing the game without eating or anything and ended up in ER because of a computer game!

Just visit these links to see the true storys and what games like this can do to people.

Gaming computer for $500?

Q. hi im in the market for a new gaming computer and was wandering where i could find a decent gaming computer good enough to play skyrim on medium settings for 400-500 USD thank you.

A. hi corey
buying a gaming pc for $500 is pushing it.. and you may need to buy a seperate graphic card since most pc,s at this price range will have intergrated/onboard graphics
however look around especially at this time of year and you can find some bargains... and with that in mind i found the "ASUS Essentio CG1330-07 Desktop PC"( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883220070 ) and suprisingly this is based around a AMD Phenom II X6 1045T cpu,yes a six core processor for under $500...
theres also 8gb of fast ddr3 memory and a massive 1 terrabyte sata II hard drive... and buring is done by a dvd super multi optical drive .......
there is a dedicated graphics card with this pc,however its only a radeon HD5450 which isnt designed for gaming .. however if you can afford another $80 ( bringing your budget to around $570) you can add another card to this pc making it more of a gaming pc
and the card i had in mind is the "PNY RVCGGTS4501XXB GeForce GTS 450 "( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133403 ) ... this is a excellent card for the price and supports gddr5 memory and along with the above pc will have no problems running games like "skyrim"
however since both the pc and graphics card are from newegg it may be worth contacting them and see if they can do some deal when both the pc and graphic card are purchased together...infact they may even install the card for you ...
obviously this will be slightly over your $500 budget, however you wont buy a specific gaming pc for under $500 ..so this would be your best bet.... infact if you purchased a six core based pc with a GTS450 you wouldnt have much change out of $800 so this is actually a great deal
i hope this helps corey, any questions let me know
good luck mate and happy xmas !

What's the best gaming computer for around $300-500?
Q. I'm considering getting a gaming computer, but if I'm going to spend hundreds on it, I don't want to be ripped off. What's the best gaming computer for this range, that has the latest graphics card, etc. My friend says I should let my other friend set me up with a custom-made computer because he'd get me a good deal, but I'm not sure if my friend setting me up a computer, or just buying a manufacturer's computer is better. Can anyone help me? Thanks
Well, yeah. I know 300-500 is kind of low, but my friend said for around that range I could get what I need if custom-made. Is that wrong, or is it just that the already-made computers overprice the computer just because they already made it for you?
And I wouldn't make one myself because I don't know alot about the hardware setup of computers. But, I do plan on learning.

A. ok first thing you need a great graphics card obviously BUT the graphics card is useless if you dont have a good processor to balance it out i play halo on my net book it has a great graphics card but the processor is not that great because its a net book so it has so much lag when i play so i play on my old acer comp it graphics card its not as great but it makes decent play.Another thing for a gametic cpu get at least 2-3gb of ram if you have 1gb its not as great. Now if your buying a computer then NEVER EVER get a mac for gaming its imposable to find let alone play! I recommend buying one if your making one then you should do it not a friend!
SO IN SHORT!

-good graphics card
-great processor
-decent screen
-2-3bg of memory
-get dell or hp

Best way to build a gaming computer under 400$?

Q. Mostly to play games like Skyrim and Diablo 3

A. if you are building it your self, then go to www.newegg.com and order all your stuff, they have great priced stuff, but to build a gaming computer usualy a good one thats cheap would cost about 600-700 but i still think it can be done, as long as you get 4-8g of RAM and have a quad core processor you should be good, oh and the graphics card needs to be good, just get the computer you have now nad up grade the parts in there, hope this helped. if you have any other questions dont be afraid to ask, i know a lot about computers.

Cheap Gaming computer under $400?
Q. Hey, I'm looking to get a half decent gaming desktop for a cheap price. I just moved so I am on a tight budget. I'm mainly just looking for something that could run COD: Black Ops Far Cry 3 and Borderlands 2. Games like that. I just want to run them on medium graphics. Thanks so much!
Also if you could suggest some computers that could run those games on low quality settings that are under $300 that would be great.

A. You're really pushing the envelope asking for that price.

You might look into used or refurbished systems. Otherwise you're not gonna find one for that price that will run those games.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7542351&CatId=2628

Something like that you could add a 450-500 watt PSU and a graphics card for about a hundred.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=899123&Sku=T925-5002

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7373209&CatId=7005

Just remember you get what you pay for at this level. This would come to about $450 and would play the games you listed on low to med settings.

Looking for gaming computer under $700?

Q. I am looking for a desktop or laptop under $700. I don't mind building it, but I think I might only do that if it's a kit that comes with all the parts. I plan on using it almost entirely for gaming, since I am upgrading form a HP Pavilion dv4t-1600. I only have minimum requirements of 4-6gb ram and a Nvidia GeForce GTX 250 or ATI Radeon 4890, and a cas similar to the NZXT Guardian Blue.
I have already looked and have found a few but I want to find one with high performance but low price. Thank you.

A. These days you can get good laptops for less than $700 at the N e w e g g website.

Just look for those with the AMD "A6" processors. Those are really cost-effective because they include a 4-core CPU and a great Radeon Graphics chip in one die, which makes them good for games.

And at that level of price you will find them with 6GB of RAM and 500+ GB hard drives.

How do i learn and become a computer / video game programmer?

Q. I am a junior in high school and love video games. I am very precise and work well alone. For all these reasons i am interested in possibly pursuing a career in computer / video game programming. But first i need to learn how? I would love any suggestions on maybe a good online class i can take to get me started. Then ideas on how to make it my career. What would be the best way to get a job as a programmer? and how?

A. For one, I recommend AGAINST Eli's advice. You will not learn game programming by using the "Easy Routes". If you want to be able to make memory efficient, fast, satisfying games you should look into other methods. (If you ever want to be anything but a hobbyist programmer you HAVE to learn actual programming. Good luck getting a job if your resume only includes "Unity3D" ;D)

My Recommendation:
1: Learn a programming language (C and/or C++)
2: Learn the Windows API (Mainly for tools creation, but minimally for game programming)
3: Learn a Graphics API (DirectX and/or OpenGL)
4: Make EASY games until you are comfortable with the languages/APIs and how they work together (This will teach you the fundamentals of your programming language and graphics API of choice, how they work together, and teach you game related devices required for larger projects such as handling the game loop. This will also make learning to write proper code easier to learn because the scale of the game will be smaller, and therefore easier to manage)
5: Keep creating programs and/or games that are of your skill level, with a few newly added features. Introduce yourself to new topics slowly. Successfully creating a Pong clone is going to aid you a LOT more than failing to create a successful MMORPG.
6: If you enjoy programming, enroll in a college for Software Engineering/Computer Science. Make sure they have classes for Object Oriented Programming and things like that. If you learned a language already in High School, you will have a head start on college, so either way it will be beneficial to start now.

Also, you must work well as a team as well as alone. If you join a game company you will be working with a team and most likely working on code you did not even initially create. Blizzard didn't create World of Warcraft by paying only one man, you know! If you want to be a one man team you will need to expand your knowledge incredibly. You will need to learn how to create, rig, animate, texture models... how to create sound effects, background music... how to program the game (which seems to be what you are after)... and MUCH more. (Nothing is impossible, but as a one man team you will need to rely on releasing Indie games and hope they do well. If they do, you could be a rich, rich human being! If they don't, you might want to sign up for food stamps!)

Good luck! It's actually a lot of fun aside from chasing bugs and memory leaks, but you will not care when you have a finished project. It's just so satisfying ;D Just never forget, technology is swiftly evolving, and Game Programming is like playing a musical instrument. You are never "Finished learning".

PS-
Look into C++ Primer Plus Fifth Edition. It's a great book to learn C++.
As for IDE's to start developing with? It is completely your decision but I recommend Visual Studio 2010 Express Edition OR Bloodshed Dev-C++. You only need one, and Visual Studio is far superior, but Dev-C++ is sufficient until you get into programming graphics (Learning C++ initially will be Console Window based, and therefore a bare-bones IDE will suffice)

2010 Fifa World Cup Video Game?
Q. I'm making a Fantasy World Cup using the 2010 Fifa World Cup video game. I'm going to record computer game play using a capture card and then upload it to YouTube. So should I just use teams that played in the actual World Cup or pick my own teams?

A. I agree you could use the best teams on the game because there will be a higher talent. But, if it was me, I'd use the teams that participated in the World Cup this year. That way, you'll have your own outcome. It'll just be a shake up of this years Cup. Either way would work.

some funny computer jokes?

Q.

A. Hi Duncan, here are a few funny computer jokes for you.

# As most technophiles are aware, there are special programs to run scanners. These programs use a TWAIN driver to perform the scanning. TWAIN, the acronym, stands for "Technology Without An Interesting Name."

# A Engineer and an Programmer are sitting next to each other on a long flight from LA to NY. The Engineer leans over to the Programmer and asks if he would like to play a fun game. The Programmer just wants to take a nap, so he politely declines and rolls over to the window to catch a few winks. The Engineer persists and explains that the game is real easy and a lot of fun. He explains "I ask you a question, and if you don't know the answer, you pay me $5. Then you ask me a question, and if I don't know the answer, I'll pay you $5." Again, the Programmer politely declines and tries to get to sleep. The Engineer, now somewhat agitated, says, "OK, if you don't know the answer you pay me $5, and if I don't know the answer, I'll pay you $50!" This catches the Programmer's attention, and he sees no end to this torment unless he plays, so he agrees to the game. The Engineer asks the firs t question: "What's the distance from the earth to the moon?" The Programmer doesn't say a word, but reaches into his wallet, pulls out a five dollar bill and hands it to the Engineer. Now, it's the Programmer's turn. He asks the Engineer "What goes up a hill with three legs, and comes down on four?" The Engineer looks up at him with a puzzled look. He takes out his laptop computer and searches all of his references. He taps into the Airphone with his modem and searches the net and the Library of Congress. Frustrated, he sends e-mail to his co-workers -- all to no avail. After about an hour, he wakes the Programmer and hands him $50. The Programmer politely takes the $50 and turns away to try to get back to sleep. The Engineer, more than a little miffed, shakes the Programmer and asks "Well, so what's the answer?" Without a word, the Programmer reaches into his wallet, hands the Engineer a $5 bill, and turns away to get back to sleep.

# A doctor, a civil engineer, and a computer scientist were arguing about what was the oldest profession in the world. The doctor remarked "Well, in the Bible it says that God created Eve from a rib taken from Adam. This clearly required surgery so I can rightly claim that mine is the oldest profession in the world." The civil engineer interrupted and said "But even earlier in the book of Genesis, it states that God created the order of the heavens and the earth from out of the chaos. This was the first and certainly the most spectacular application of civil engineering. Therefore, fair doctor, you are wrong; mine is the oldest profession in the world." The computer scientist leaned back in his chair, smiled, and said confidently, "Ah, but who do you think created the chaos?

# Comments made by Programmers when their programs don't work: Strange... I've never heard about that. It did work yesterday. Well, the program needs some fixing. How is this possible? The machine seems to be broken. Has the operating system been updated? The user has made an error again. There is something wrong in your test data. I have not touched that module! Yes yes, it will be ready in time. You must have the wrong executable. Oh, it's just a feature. I'm almost ready. Of course, I just have to do these small fixes. It will be done in no time at all. It's just some unlucky coincidence. I can't test everything! THIS can't do THAT. Didn't I fix it already? It's already there, but it has not been tested. It works, but it's not been tested. Somebody must have changed my code. There must be a virus in the application software. Even though i t does not work, how does it feel? How come you didn't find it during the system testing? It's a setup problem. And the Ultimate: A smart user would never do that!

# One guy was on duty in the main lab on a quiet afternoon. He noticed a young woman sitting in front of one of the workstations with her arms crossed across her chest and staring at the screen. After about 15 minutes he noticed that she was still in the same position only now she was impatiently tapping her foot. He asked if she needed help and she replied, It's about time! I pushed the F1 button over twenty minutes ago!

I need a gaming chair, Something comfortable, durable, and stylist. Any suggestions?
Q. I'm a professional gamer, I sit for long periods of times. 5-8hours, maybe longer. budget: 150$
I want something that will provide comfort, but also remain durable. I sit at a computer desk so it's higher. No low on the floor gaming chairs.

A. Here arm some comfortable gaming chairs

computer gaming chair?

Q. hey guys im a gamer and i need a new chair for my comp but ive gone in a few stores and i cant seem to find any good chairs except for these generic crap office chairs im looking for a really comfortable padded chair that doesn't have a bunch of stupid shit on it i keep looking at all these
"gaming chairs" and theyre all these stupid like sparco racing seats or some shit that sit on the floor and like go back and forth or some shit i want a chair thats made with computer gaming in mind without a bunch of gimicks and is just adjustable and extremely comfortable that will last anyone know of anything like that lol???

A. Choosing a well designed office chair is an essential step in achieving good computer ergonomics. A good furniture will preserve and support the natural curves of your body back. In the neck and low back the spinal curves in, and in the middle back the spinal curves out. To perform well the contour of the chair's back should match the curves of your back.

Can you run two games on one Computer?
Q. Ok so I want to run two games on one computer sort of like splitscreen (or possibly on another monitor if i setup 2). I know some games support it (l4d) but a lot don't. I also realize this will take a lot of CPU/GPU power but should be easy on lower settings for system I'm planning (ati 5970 which is a dual core GPU, 955 BE Quad core OC to 3.9ghz, 8gigs ram).

I don't want to split the controls on one keyboard I want to have one keyboard and mouse per player (max 2 players) or 2 xbox 360 controllers since i can connect 2.

Only Problem I see is havening two mouses lets you control 1 cursor. I need to have two cursors sorta if you understand. I cant have two mouses controlling one of the games.

Other thoughts
Have heard u can run to programs by right clicking a selecting "Run as other user" option but so far hasn't worked. Plus i know with older games you can run 2 games on one PC I did it by opening minimizing and reopening AVP2. but you could control both and when i joined an online server it crashed the serv.

Any thoughts or insight on this would be wonderful.
To answer Altay
First I already have 8gigs or RAM,

Second I am getting 5970 ect regardless of its possibility

Third I want to do this so I can play games split screen with my friends on one computer sorta like a counsel. Like i said earlier a lot of games don't support splitscreen so I want to have my own version by running two of the same game side by side.

A. Only game I ever knew of that used 2 mice/keyboards for 2 players was "Settlers 2", I think with games now, you'ld be better off using 2 360 pads and setting the controls for player 1 and 2 separately within the game to the respective pad1/pad2 and launching 2 instances in a window resized to half screen, either vertical/horizontal, although SOME games that use xinput rather than direct input ONLY use the first controller they find for some reason. Some PC Games natively support 2-4 pads(xbox or not) though but these generally are not split screen, SFIV and Pro Evo for example. If a game you use doesn't support splitscreen natively, you should check there isn't some sort of hack/workaround like there is for L4D, before running TWO instances though.

Good gaming computer?

Q. you see, i have a pretty crappy laptop for gaming and i want a computer that is very good with games and can play them at highest or at least close to the highest setting and my dad bought my brother components to build a computer and he has a really nice one for gaming but my dad doesn't really want to spend the same amount of money to get me a nice computer too. so basically i'm asking what computers are good gaming computers and at a reasonable price.

A. Good gaming computer without monitor will cost at least $700, better ones are $900-1200
You can get some realistic prices on Centaurus Computers - they have awesome gaming machines. I have a few from them and all are perfect - high quality top performance gaming optimized machines.

Computer monitor for gaming?
Q. Could someone list a good monitor(s) for gaming based on price.
I'm very interested in the new IPS panel type, however usually these give a 8ms response rate (Which isn't that poor for gaming?)

Would I be better off getting a tn monitor with a 2/1 ms response rate or a IPS monitor?

Give links to suggestions please
Will NOT be using 3d. Not at all interested especially if it makes monitor more costly
Screen size should be 20-24 inches. 24-27 inch monitors you can show too, but not as interested
All of the monitor top 10 generic lists I find rank the Viewsonic VX2453MH-LED 24-Inch Ultra-thin Widescreen LED Monitor great, however with this being a TN panel, i dislike the darkness you see when looking at it from a poor angle (I plan on laying on my bed sometimes to watch movies, bed is lower than level of monitor)

A. if you want a gaming monitor, you dont need a super ultra epic high end monitor. a game will look great on a standard monitor as long as it's 1080p

a good, 'cheap' gaming computer?

Q. Hey, I play world of warcraft on a 7+ year old emachine that restarts itself constatly. I'm forced to play on the lowest settings while the game is evolving towards HD and improved graphics. What i'm really looking for:
-GOOD graphics card / monitor, HD maybe?
-smooth gameplay
-these conditions without blue screens :)

I'm not the best with computer-lingo, but is it possible to get a computer that has the components for those requirements without other overkill/uneeded features? Thanks!

A. The words "good, cheap, gaming" tells the tale. You can't get that. Also a gaming system is a system that's built with "overkill/nueeded features". The system you have now is what you have described and it's not suited for gaming.

This system would run your WOW decently and it is cheap.

Cheapest computer that will run Games for Windows?
Q. Where can I find a computer that has good enough specs to run these games. If you dont know what I mean, Im talking about Gears of War PC or Halo 2 PC. The ones that will get you achievements. They all have minimum requirements to play them. I already have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers. I just need a tower. What is a good cheap gaming computer that will run all of those games? Thanks

A. BUILDING A GAMING PC.
do you have what it takes to build your own pc?
it's not as hard as most people will try to tell you it is and with a little research and a few hours of reading you will be able to gain the knowledge of how the whole process works.
there are alot of good sites around that have great articles and videos that will help to show you how to put a system together step by step.
for a better understanding of what a gaming pc is and what specs/parts you should aim to use,
try these keywords in a google search "building a gaming pc" & "budget gaming pc" and read
some of the articles that show up, but to help you save some time i have also included a few
of the links that i found to be very help full.

link 1.
this site was packed with loads of good info but involves a lot of reading but as a result
when you have read as much as you can then you will have a better understanding of what it is that you are trying to build.

http://www.build-gaming-computers.com/index.html

link2.
this link will take you to a great set of videos on youtube that show all the steps of building a computer, there is seven separate movie that show you a few steps at a time.
i would also suggest downloading realplayer 11 if you don't already have it so you can download and save these movies to your computer for future reference.

http://au.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=7D3AC490264241EA

to download realplayer:
http://www.download.com/RealPlayer/3000-2646_4-10073040.html?tag=mncol

the next 3 are a bit less reading intensive and you will quickly find there suggested parts list.

MY BUILD LIST..........
the most recent system i built aimed towards every day use with an outlook towards gaming
with a budget set at $2500 consisted of these parts.
( mid December 2008)

keyboard and mouse - Logitech Cordless 1500Rechargeable Desktop USB (OEM) $96.80

total cost $2406.40

(note all prices stated in my build list are in australian dollars)

and if after reading all the above you are not you are still a bit uncertain about taking on a build yourself you can always
talk to friends that may have done it before and ask for there help,
or take a parts list into a few computer shops in your local area and see what prices they can give you for building the
system that meets your needs, also searching the keywords "good computer shops in (add your home town here )" in Google and
look through some of the forums to see what people are saying about the computer stores in your local area to see which ones
may be the best to go to by the comments that others have left.

i hope that the above information will help you in achieving your goal.

whats a good pre built gaming computer for around 700 dollars?

Q. i found this computer online can someone tell me if this is computer worth getting will it play crysis 2 and may be up gradable. if not plz recommend me one and tell me about it. thank you in advanced.
THE GAMING COMPUTER i found
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227291

A. DEFINITELY WORTH IT, just get a thermal or water cooler if you know how to operate them.

Good Computers Under 700 dollars?
Q. Hey. Right now I have a crappy dell inspiron 1525. I mean its not an awful computer, but I am using it for recording video game software through an HD PVR. The computer tends to lag a lot, and runs programs pretty slow. It has 2gig ram and 2.14gig processor or something like that. and its dualcore. Does anybody know of any laptops that are for sale, new, for under 700 dollars that have a good amount of ram, good processor, and possible quadcore (but most likely dualcore) Thanks so much!
Oh and BTW, it would have to be a laptop!

A. IMO i5 should be sufficient (Ofc it's better to get an i7, but taking your budget into consideration, i5 should be good enough), and you should look at better gfx, ram, etc. Intel GMA sucks.

Consider one of the three:
Dell Inspiron 14z: it does not come with a quad core, but if you are buying just under $700, you can get i5 2.5 GHz dual core, 6 GB ram, 650GB SATA HD, Intel integrated HD graphics 3000 for ~$650.

Toshiba Satellite R845: It comes with i5 2.4 GHz (which you can turboboost/overclock to 3.0 if you choose to), 6 GB ram (upgradable to 8 GB), Intel HD Graphics, 640 GB SATA HD for ~$600.

HP dm4-3050us: Comes w/ i5 2.5 GHz (can turboboost/overclock to 3.1 GHz), 6 GB RAM, 750 GB HD, Intel HD 3000 Graphics for ~$630.

Note: HD graphcis 3000 =/= HD Graphics. Intel HD 3000 > Intel HD > Intel GMA.

Switching Diablo 3 computers?

Q. I purchased Diablo 3 on another computer. But now I got my new one. How do I download the game to this computer? It only gives me the option to install the client:( Help please?

A. were did you get game from? some places online are account based and so you go to that site and redownload the game. if you have the cd you should be able to download it onto your new computer. if you got it online i would send a message to that company who you got it from thru there forums and ask.

i know steam and orgin(ea). once you get a game you have unlimited downloads. being that in order to play you have to log into the account first. (if not playing online then you can play the same game on all computers) you just have to log into steam in offline mode. as far as online goes steam only lets one computer on at a time.

as the guy above said even if your friend does not have it installed you can still install it. (just takes longer then from a cd) and you can then play it. when you leave your friends house just make sure to delete out your login pw. or make sure he does not know it, and he wont be able to play unless he gets his own key.

Gaming computer upgrade for Diablo 3.?
Q. What should I upgrade according to specification down below. May you add priority from highest-lowest considering gaming performance. I would like to prepare for Diablo 3 when it comes out even though they are lenient on computer hardware! [Holler ;)] I added my specification down below with some comments if you may answer them. I do not want to upgrade if its not necessary, but my computer does not handle fall out 3 when there's to many people. Just to give you a visual where the performance is at. lol. (Btw, I'm still new to computer building, and do not want to rush and waste money! thanks!)

Also, can you tell me your computer specs and what components you're using specifically? I want a computer bad-ass as you.

The main component

AMD phenom II 940 quad 3GHZ [Upgrade?]
Cheap value 4 gig ram [Q: Does cheap or quality ram have any affect on performance? Ugrade?]
WD Green 32mbcache [Q: Would you say this hard drive bottle necks my performance? Upgrade?]
Nvidia GTX 260 [Q: I have heard bad things about this card. Upgrade?]
Cheap motherboard [Q: Does the Mobo have any affect on performance? Upgrade?]
Corsair 850 Watt PSU

A. Most of your computer specs are reasonable, but they're a bit dependent on each other. That power supply unit is a beast and is good enough for anything but the most insane computers. Here's the issues I see from least to most important.

Hard drive- WD Green is a bit slow, but if it's reliable for you, then it's not a serious issue. You might take a bit longer for loading screens and starting the game up, but not too much and in-game performance won't be an issue at all. You'd have to be on a cutting edge system for this to be a bottleneck.

AMD Phenom II + Motherboard- These go hand in hand. Your processor should cover most stuff, but it's starting to age and the top end games will give you a bit of trouble. Make sure your motherboard is from a reputable brand, that extra $20-30 is important. You could go for an AMD A-series chip, but the Intel Core i7-2600k is one of the best deals on the market right now. The Core i5-2500k is reasonable if you need to keep to a budget.

4 gig RAM- Cheap RAM does cut performance a little, and 8 gig is the new preference. Thing is, you really shouldn't be seeing any problems here either unless you're running way too many things at once or play around in Photoshop a lot. You can get a reasonably nice 8 GB kit pretty cheap these days. I'd at least keep this in mind if you built a new comp.

Nvidia GTX-260- Yeah. You gotta replace this. There's just no way around that. GTX 570 is top notch, Radeon 6850 is the best mid-budget card. Both of those will show serious improvement.

Honestly, you should be able to get by with what you have for Diablo 3, although I'd highly suggest upgrading that graphics card. The processor and RAM should be sufficient, but check your system performance and make sure nothing is eating up memory in the background. Keep a watch on Newegg too. If you get the graphics card and want something more, you can often find a good 8 GB RAM kit there for $50-60.

Addition- My own system specs

I run a Core i7-2600k processor on a Gigabyte brand mobo, 8 GB RAM, WD Black 1TB, and a Radeon 6850. There's a reason I suggest what I do. That system was built months ago, it still runs everything at top quality without any hesitation, and it was easy on the wallet.

Need help choosing a gaming laptop?

Q. Right now I have an Acer Aspire 5253-BZ841, it's only a few years old and it's a fabulous laptop, but not so much for gaming. It lags frequently and has painfully slow loading time, among other things wrong with it. I've decided it's time for a new computer with the ability to support my needs.

The only game I really play is League of Legends, if that helps. I don't know for sure, but I don't think it takes as much effort for a computer as something like World of Warcraft or Diablo 3(D3 was nearly impossible to play on this thing...) but I could be wrong. I am on the computer ALOT, so on top of efficiently running my game, I'd love for it to be reliable and fast for when I browse the internet, use Photoshop, ect.

I THINK I'd like to get a laptop, because I do travel around a bit, but a desktop computer is ABSOLUTELY NOT out of the question. I could always keep this laptop and take it with me when I go and have my awesome desktop at home.

I did a little research and these laptops were the most appealing to me:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Samsung+-+Series+7+17.3%26%2334%3B+Laptop+-+8GB+Memory+-+1TB+Hard+Drive+-+Titan+Silver/6774648.p?id=1218806578058&skuId=6774648&st=Samsung%20Notebook%20Series%207%20Chronos&cp=1&lp=3

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony---VAIO-14%26%2334%3B-Touch-Screen-Laptop---8GB-Memory---1TB-Hard-Drive---Gunmetal/Vintage-Gold/6747147.p?skuId=6747147&id=1218792108092

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Acer---Aspire-17.3%26%2334%3B-Laptop---8GB-Memory---1TB-Hard-Drive---Midnight-Black/6941872.p?skuId=6941872&id=1218816107946

My budget is like $1200, so I'd love some advice about computers in that price range. Can anyone vouch for any of these laptops I linked or suggest better ones that I can research? Any help is appreciated.
Another thing, weight of the laptop doesn't matter to me, I know good laptops tend to be heavier so if it's a 10 lbs. laptop that's cool with me as long as it's efficient lol.. I'm really more interested in the contents of the laptop, I need one with good guts. Fast processor, dual or quad core, massive RAM and a balling graphics card are things I want.

A. Well, lets see here.

All of the computers you linked to have the same exact GPU or graphics card except for the Sony Vaio. The sony vaio has a AMD Radeon HD 7670M hybrid graphics card. This graphics card also has 2 gb dedicated Video memory. However, the benchmark of this gpu (specifically for running games at optimum settings/resolution 30 fps +) is a lot lower than the benchmark of NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M, which is the GPU in the other 3 laptops. This NVIDIA gpu will run games like Diablo 3, counter strike, World of Warcraft, and even black ops 2 (released earlier this week) with full, optimal settings at 1920 x 1080 (ultra settings at 28 frames per second). So specifically for gaming, the nvidia would be the better choice so the sony vaio, as elegant as it looks, is out of the list in this case.

We are left with the other 3 (acer, samsung, and dell).
Keep in mind that these 3 laptops are 17.3 inches. That is huge (my 15.6 is enough for commute). I mean its great for gaming but might not be so ideal for commute so your call. The vaio is 14 inches which is too small anyway.

Now, the processors:
The Samsung has a good processor (i7-3635QM processor), but in terms of benchmark and stats, it is the worst one out of all of the laptops you mentioned. I will provide links for benchmarks at the end of my post. The best processor out of these 3 is the one in the acer (i7-3632QM). Dell's processor comes very close to the acer's in terms of performance and there wont be much of a difference. The acer, samsung and dell all have 8 GB ram as well as a 1 TB hard drive (samsung's is slightly newer but u won't see a difference as the speed 5400 rpm is the same). They all have bluetooth capability (u can plug in a bluetooth headset for gaming). Acer's bluetooth interface is slightly newer but u wont see much of a difference. The acer and dell practically weigh the same but the samsung is a bit more sleek and elegant looking but definitely not for the extra what $500??

Bottom line, the acer is probably the least appealing (looks wise - from the outside) out of the bunch but it does have a crisp 1600 by 900 resolution. But the samsung has a 1080 P resolution great for gaming (is it worth the money though?). The acer has the best processor out of all of them, a better bluetooth interface, is in the middle in terms of cost, has an amazing graphics card for games, and is an all around good laptop. Maybe wait for black friday or thanksgiving for a laptop to get a better deal. I would go with the acer though. The only downside with acer is that its an acer. Not saying acer's bad, its build quality and reputation is just not AS good as samsung for example. But my brother has an acer and it doesn't have any problems yet. It is a very good laptop and Im sure you have had experience with acer as you mentioned so its up to you decide.

Good luck and enjoy ur laptop :)

Computer/League of Legends Help.......?
Q. I downloaded iLoL (the Mac version) from mediafire as a link from Boompje.net. I have a macbook air (july 2011 version) with iOS version 10.7.5. I go to play the game and everything is fine, but when I actually start a match, every time I click the window un-highlights and then re-highlights a second later. This means that I can't click in quick succession because while the window is unhighlighted it does not receive input from the trackpad or mouse. Also the game is not full screen and I cannot seem to make it full screen without messing it up. Is it just where I got the game from? Because If anyone has a better link or download that would be appreciated, or if someone else has had the same problem and found out how to fix it and can leave an answer. Thanks!

A. Why would you download League of Legends from mediafire when the game is free to play? Why wouldn't you just download the game from the OFFICIAL game website instead of some third-party website that probably doesn't even have the latest patch files. That would be like going out and buying oxygen tanks because you don't want the free air around you....

A. * Download HijackThis http://go.trendmicro.com/free-tools/hijackthis/HijackThisInstaller.exe
*Save to your desktop.
*Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
*By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
*Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
*Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
*Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
*At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
*Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
*Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
*DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

How do you get a local network game to work through a router with computers?
Q. Specifically the game warcraft III.

A. You need to have the software on each computer.

You need to add the software to your firewall's exceptions list.

One computer on your LAN will need to be the "Host"

There are some ports that need to be configured as well.
