What Parts Would I Need To Build A Desktop Computer?

Q. I want to build my own computer but I don't know what kind of parts I need for the monitor.

A. so far so good, my system:
newegg.com

- Intel 520 Series Cherryville SSDSC2CW240A3K5 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

- GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UP4 TH LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with Dual Thunderbolt

- CORSAIR Vengeance 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 Desktop Memory Model CMZ32GX3M4X1600C10

- PC Power and Cooling Silencer Mk II 950W High Performance 80PLUS Silver SLI CrossFire ready Power Supply, ATX12V v2.2/EPS12V, 135mm double ball bearing, 20+4pin, single 12V rail, 12 SATA power connectors, SLI ready, 5.9"x3.4"x6.3", 7yr warranty

- Intel Core i7-3770 Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4000

- 250Gb western digital hard drive (WD2500HHTZ), sataIII 6Gbs, 3.5", 10,000rpm

- used stock cpu cooler , since I am not overclocking, and choose non K cpu version, for virtualization advantages in case i want windows xp mode to run older programs. ran intel processor diagnostic tool and everything passed including memory. ran win 7 memory test ok also.
- motherboard came with F3 BIOS with screen shifted to the left blocking letters, downloaded F9 BIOS and used Q-flash in BIOS to update it, so ok now. flashing is way easier than it used to be.
- set BIOS to AHCI, created partition and let windows 7 pro 64 bit format SSD to NTFS.
- used sata 3 port 0 lower for SSD and upper port 1 for my WD hard drive.
- system is quiet and boots fast. everything is snappy including internet browsing. I had like 10 browser windows open and system showed 6Gb in use ?? good thing i got hooked up with 32Gb and explains why my old laptop can not surf the internet anymore with long lags/delays/page loads.
- I needed more than 6 usb ports, so ordered this "Biostar CABLEUSB3.0 USB 3.0 Cable Bracket". also ordered some usb 2.0 card slot bracket adapters, cheap but the bracket was to big, had to hacksaw it to fit the rear panel slot. did not realize they made 2 different sizes.
- no compatibility problems encountered, mouse/keyboard/printer/power supply all worked. i'm running my mouse and keyboard off the usb2.0 motherboard connectors to a four port card slot adapter bracket in the rear. they did work in the rear motherboard usb ports also.
- I can run morrowind off the onboard graphics no problem.
- verified TRIM enable, turned off system restore, indexing, prefetch/superfetch etc. etc. Now will wait and see how the SSD lasts/performs, since it is my first.
- my new system makes my midi keyboard sound really good, using pianissimo VSTi and reaper as my DAW. My old AMD system was 5-6yrs old.
- has a pci slot which i used for my firewire card.
- stayed away from 2011 socket boards, seems like alot of problems.
- my cheap GTX 460 sonic 1024M GDDR5 256bit dual DVI w/HDMI can run all my games, skyrim full resolution. but this is the most important computer part for gaming, I just have not needed to upgrade yet.
- can't wait to get a usb3.0 or thunderbolt external harddrive to speed things up.
- weak SSD documentation, download the intel SSD toolbox program from the intel website. it will list lifetime left, and do a check on the SSD.
- could not get easytune6 to install.
- set memory profile in BIOS to XMP to get 1600 timing.

How much does a good gaming computer cost?
Q. I think I'm going to play Diablo III when it comes out, where is a good computer to play it on, and how much will it cost? I know Diablo III isn't out yet, but I know it will need a lot of requirements because its a huge game.

Desktop and or laptop.

A. Get at least a dual-core processor (quad-core recommended), with 3 GB RAM (4-6GB recommended), SSD for OS (40GB would suffice) and 500GB of HDD (1TB if you need and/or can afford), ATI 5770/5870 or nVidia GT275/285, 22" widescreen LCD monitor and a decent logitech keyboard/mouse. To run diablo 3, which you're not going to be until perhaps 3rd quarter of 2011, you'll require a robust PC, but not necessarily an expensive one. $850 should fetch you a good gaming PC, whereas top-of-the-line models will cost more.

How long/often do you leave your electronics idle?

Q. I read one of the yahoo articles saying that leaving your computer idle overnight can cost up to 2 billion dollars. Is it a good idea to leave your computer/gaming console/TV/etc. on for a few hours? Or is it better to just close it and reopen it later?

A. > leaving your computer idle overnight can cost up to 2 billion dollars.

No. That is total for the country (maybe the world). They will NOT send you a bill for 2 billion $$$. ;-)
====
> Is it a good idea to leave your computer/gaming console/TV/etc.
> on for a few hours? Or is it better to just close it and reopen it later?

If you don't mind the long restart time, then shut it down. The SLEEP (idle) mode was created for people at work, while they walk away for meeting and such the computer can save MOST of the energy. But if they go to lunch or even overnight, it should be turned off.

The hibernate mode is a good compromise. It is actually like being completely OFF yet, it can restore all your open items when turned back on.

Good luck...

Does washing your eyes after visual activities damage your eyesight?
Q. For example, playing computer games/watching TV/reading books for hours then taking a bath immediately afterwards. Will it damage my eyesight?

A. Despite what your parents tell you, playing computer games, watching TV, and reading books will not cause permanent damage to your eyes.

Taking a bath afterwards will also not hurt your eyes.

If you close your eyes and wash your face, that won't hurt anything.

If you're trying to wash your eyeballs, that isn't a good idea, no matter what you were doing before, unless you splashed a chemical into your eyes that needs to be rinsed out.

How to make a game resolution to 1366x768?

Q. I want to play Rome Total War but in the video setting the maximum screen resolution is 1024x768. While my computer screen resolution is 1366x768. It's make the graphics bad! how Can i change its game resolution to 1366x768?
I'm sorry if im going to the wrong category, which one is the right category?

A. Some of the older games do not have the option to choose higher resolution that the monitor can run.

I think I played RTW in 1024x768 on my monitor despite using 1920x1280 resolution normally

UPDATE: Installed Lord of the Rings - Battle for Middle-Earth 2 yesterday and it will max run in a 1600x1200 resolution despite using 1920x1280 resolution normally

Why are my computer games not the right resolution?
Q. i am trying to play some computer games on my laptop. it is a compaq presario cq57. The resolution and graphics/screen is great untill i try and play ANY game. then when the game plays it dpoes not take up the entire screen. i want to play the game on the whole screen. When i end the game it goes back to the regular resolution? How can i fix this?

A. normally games default to two screen resolutions, 680X800 and 1020Xwhatever, if you go into the options for the game, many of them will allow you to change it to your setting.

Does a private server online computer game take a lot of room on your hard drive?

Q. I have several online private server computer games (the same game --different servers) and only 3 gigibytes left on my hard drive. I have a new Vista 120 gigibytes, but no more room. I did remove 4 viruses, but the viruses were removed, so where is my disk space? Maybe the servers really take up a lot of room and Vista utilizes lots of memory to carry out the computer functions? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

A. hey there. Im pretty sure those server games you are talking about arent taking up that much space on your hard drive. how long have you had the computer? I dont know about vista, but try going to search or find all files or folders, then see if there is an option for size something like "what size is it" then look for specify size, then put in something like at least 50000 bytes. thats 50 megs. it should bring up all files on your computer that are that size or larger. use your judgement and delete the ones that look like they dont belong or that you never use.

hope this helps, good luck

Can you play computer games from an external hard drive?
Q. I'm plannig on getting an external hard drive for my computer games and am worried about my games not working from my external hard drive.

A. you can although depending on the interface they might load a lot slower. if its a usb 2 hard drive you will notice longer loading times, if you have any esata ports on your computer get hold of a esata hard drive as these run as fast as most internal hard drives.

What do you recommend for a good gaming desktop for under 600$?

Q. Alrighty just looking for a good gaming desktop setup under 600$ to play WoW on without using all my money I got saved up. Best answer wins.

A. I see this question a lot. You can't buy a good gaming computer for that kind of money.
If you build it yourself you will save money. You don't say if you need a monitor and keyboard or whatever. Computer gaming is one of the most expensive hobbies I have ever had. I too would like a good gaming computer for $600.
I know this answer will not win best answer award, The truth is rarely popular.

Where can I find a cheap gaming laptop?
Q. I need to find a desktop computer that is made for computer gaming. IT HAS TO BE UNDER 600$. Preferably a good graphics card and 6 or 8Gb RAM Maybe even a 2TB hard drive.
I meant 1TB not 2
A desktop computer not laptop.

A. You have absolutely no chance AT ALL. You could try novatech.com they are pretty cheap but if you can find one like that. The world is a better place.

For a pc with 6GB RAM, a good graphics card and a 2TB harddrive your looking at like £900

What computer would be good for me?

Q. I'm looking for a computer to buy for my room. But I don't know what to get. My price range is about 200-500 pounds.I like listening to music and playing games and i want it WiFi enabled.I don't want something too expensive. Can you please help me.

A. Hey, a good computer for music and games with wifi will cost any where from 800-1000$ (400-600 pounds). Try to buy a refurbished or used one to cut the price. And buy a cheap external wireless widget to cut the price of built in costs.

I'm looking for a laptop or a computer to buy?
Q. I'm looking for a laptop or a computer to buy, but it don't know which one is best to play games like Unreal Tournament,Age of Empires 3 and games like them.My price range is 200-500 pounds. So if you can help me then that would be great.

A. For 200-500 pounds you will not even get a gaming desktop, let alone a laptop. Good graphics cards nowadays cost 100 + pounds. If you really really want a laptop forget playing games on it. A gaming laptop will probably cost you 800 + pounds. The cheapest option is to buy the components and build you own desktop computer, you can get a very fast machine for as much as you would spend on a crappy laptop.

p.s. All the smart people do it ...

What high school classes should a kid take to get accepted into college for computer game design?

Q. My son is a sophomore in high school and wants to become a computer game designer. what kind of classes should he take while still in high school to make have the best chance at getting accepted into college for computer game design? Also, should he be doing anything extra-curricular?

A. The best course of action in high school is always to take the most challenging classes you can that your school offers. It's very important to have a base of core classes. Encourage him to take electives that he's interested in and relate to computer science and/or graphic design.
Also, extracurriculars are very important. Your son should try to develop well-rounded interests. Volunteer work is very important. As far as computer game designing goes, try to get him into some kind of computer club at his school or in your community. This will expose him to what he'll be studying in college.

How do you want your next computer game to be?
Q. Are you bored with shooters and RPGs? What kind of computer game would you want to play? If you play 3d shooters, what kind of challenge(s) would you expect in an "extremely" good game?
no suggestions but one?

A. It would be nice to see a mix of several types of games. Like a ARPGFPSMMO Diablo II style game meets FPS that you can also play online if you want.

What is the best computer cleaning software available for 2012?

Q. I am constantly installing and uninstalling games on my computer because i ma member of steam. I just got a new PC about a month ago i want to keep it clean and running smooth i wanted to know what was the best PC cleaning software out there.

A. You should NEVER use PC cleaning software, it causes more harm than good.

All you really need to do is uninstall using the games uninstaller.

Steam is really good about removing all unnecessary files after uninstallation

The guy below me is a moron and wants your computer to fry. I have been in the computer industry in IT and systems management for 22 years, don't listen to the clearly uneducated dumb ass below me.

Help me choose the best parts to build a computer build?
Q. Lately I have been thinking about building a computer rig. I decided to use a forum post to do so.

1. What is the purpose of the computer? (Note: If you are planning to say multimedia, you will have to be more specific as all types of systems are capable of doing that)
Programming. - Visual Studio 2012, Microsoft Office 2012, Compiling, Graphics, Adobe Master's Collection ( Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Fireworks ). Very very little gaming will be done. This rig is not intended to be a gaming rig.

2. Are you open to alternate ideas/products giving similar better performance but offering more VFM / sellers? If not- why?
Yes

3. What is your MAX budget?
3000 dollars

4. Planning to overclock?
Maybe. I heard that overclocking on processors wear them down. Don't know if it's good to overclock.

5. Which OS are you planning to use?
Windows 7 Professional

6. How much hard drive space is needed?
2 TB

7. What resolution will the screen run at & whats the size of the screen you want?
If you already want have one and want to use it, mention its resolution and size.
Screen resolution: 2560 x 1440 WQHD, 27 inch

8. How would you rate your hardware knowledge from the count of 1-10? (1 being the lowest, 5 being you are somewhat in sync with the current performers and 10 being the highest)
8

9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler?
Done by an assembler

10. When are you planning to buy the system?
3 week

11. Are you one of the types looking out for "future proof" configurations?
No

12. Are there going to be any components that you don't want to include in this new rig? If yes, do mention.
i3 and i5 processors

13. Which city do you live in and are you open to buying from shops from other city/states?
USA and want to buy parts in the USA

A. $3000 is beyond overkill for such a machine. However, it sounds like this is a business machine and therefore I suggest you buy a business class workstation from a Tier 1 manufacturer because you don't want to be troubleshooting stuff by yourself while your money-making computer is down. you want to call someone and have them send the replacement part overnight.

If you insist on building, i'd suggest nix327's build from here

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/toms-hardware-bestconfigs-build-a-pc,3453-3.html

but replace the i3 with an i7-3770 (not the K version since you won't be overclocking) and upgrade the 64GB SSD to the 256GB Samsung 840 in the other build. You'll still be well below $1000 so invest in a nice monitor, maybe one of the 27" 1440p models since I know developers like their real estate space. The onboard GPU in the i7 is more than enough to power that resolution for software development and the occasional flash based game.

I am making a game for school and I need ideas for making a video game. (computer) What are some good ideas?

A. brick is always fun and not too hard to make (that's the game that comes pretty much with every iPod
Kitten Cannon would also be fun to make
Then the other game that I know someone in my grade made was the helicopter game (where you click and hold the left mouse button to have the heli go up, let go to drop, and you have too go around obstacles in a horizontal tunnel

What is wrong with my computers connection to the internet?
Q. I'm living in a college dorm right now and me and my roommate are both heavily into computer gaming. I understand school connections are a little limited but when he plays or browses the internet his connection is almost always completely fine. On the other hand, when i play an online game it takes an excessively long time to load maps, and my ping almost always constantly jumps to 300+ all the way up to 990 ping, and if it goes down it goes right back up shortly. Once in a while this wont happen and ill range from 70 to 130 ping in a game which is playable, but most of the time that is not the case. Ive come to the conclusion that it has to be something about my computer because my roommate doesnt experience anything like what i do. any help is appreciate, thank you in advance.

A. most likely, his computer is more power full. If you two had the exact same laptops, with the exact same hardware, running the exact same software, you should notice no difference.

What computer languages should i have to learn to become a game designer?

Q. i am intending of becoming a game designer that's my dream......so any one please guide me what computer languages should i have to learn to become a game designer?..now i am studying my b.tech Final year please....say in order what what languages should i learn? and which country is better in giving game designer degree???

A. C++ is the language most used by designers and has a lot of available game development libraries

What type of computer coding languages should I learn?
Q. I'm interested in being able to create an entire website by myself. I'm interested in being able to create iPhone and iPod Touch applications. I'm interested in creating video games. What computer languages would be required for each? Please don't answer if you don't know or are unsure, thanks.

A. To create a website, you at least need to know HTML, some basic CSS, and probably some Javascript. For more advanced sites, you will also need to know PHP and MySQL, and possibly ASP, Java, etc.

Iphone development uses a language called Objective-C, which is an extension of C. So you will need to know the principles of C in order to make software for the iphone.

Games can be made using a variety of languages. Most of those little games you play on web pages are written in Actionscript or, less commonly, Java. The 'real' games you have installed on your machine like FPS games and so on are mostly written using C or C++ (although at least one Java-based FPS game has been created).

Can i build a good gaming computer for under say 700 dollars?

Q. Well not necessarily a strict gaming computer, I really want it so i can stream in HD to twitch.tv. I have an elgato cap card but my computer isnt good enough to stream. So would it be possible for me to build one for under 700 or so that could stream how i want it to?

what is the best deal i can get on a new desktop for under $700?
Q. im looking for a new desktop with the most memory, the best processor, etc. im not planning on using this computer for gaming, however i would prefer the computer to have Microsoft XP, and programs such as Office and excell. the price range im aiming for is under $700

A. You can get a very good PC for that money. However, you aren't going to find a brand nw PC with XP. XP no longer comes pre-installed on new models. Don't be afraid of Vista
especially if you're only going by here-say and not from actual experience with Vista. Vista has improved imensely since it was introduced. I wouldn't own a PC without it! I haven't had any problems at all.
I just bought an HP at Circuit City and they had all kinds of desktops for $700.00 or less. The staff at the store I went to was extremely helpful yet, not pushy.
Here is a whole page under $600.00:

What would be the best processor to use while building a good gaming computer?

Q. I've been looking around the internet, trynig to find the best processor for me to use in building a desk top computer. There are A TON of different processors between AMD and Intel. And I just don't know what to pick. The ideal processor would be one that can run advanced video editing software like Sony vegas pro 10 or what not, and has the capability of playing games like BF3 or skyrim. Oh, and my prefered budget would be around $50 to $100.

A. I like referring to these value lists that judge Passmark benchmarks by sale price:
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_value_available.html
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_value.html

In the CPU list, the Phenom II X4 955 is the top contender (topped by less powerful Athlon IIs and Intel Celerons, and by more expensive FX eight-cores). Intel's better i5 and i7 series are also more expensive.

If by chance you were looking for graphics cards, the Radeon #750 models (the first digit is the series, while the next two numbers describe where within the tier they sit). Not sure how the GeForce numbering works… Here are some videos:

What can I do to fix my computer speakers?
Q. All of the sudden they stopped working. It is a desk top computer. They are plugged in to the computer and to a power strip, they are turned on and the volume is turned all the way up but all I here is buzzing nothing else. When I check the computer it says under sounds and audio devices it says no audio device. I have tried to install them but it will not work. What can I do?

A. Hey Amanda,

Steps to fix :

1. Make sure your speakers are plugged in,turned on, and properly connected to the computer. You've probably checked this, but it's amazing how little problems like this (or the computer's sound being muted) manage to confound people.

2. Plug the speakers in to another computer, if possible. If the speakers work with the other computer, proceed to the next step. If they don't, you've probably got a problem within the speakers themselves.

3. Check to see if your PC is still under warranty. If it is, do not proceed. The help provided below may void your warranty. Contact your service provider if this is the case.

4. Check your sound drivers
* Open your start menu (right-click on the "Start" button and choose "Explore"), and find the "My Computer" icon. Right-click on it and choose "Properties" from the submenu. Click on the "Hardware" tab and then the "Device Manager" button.
* Expand the "Sounds, video, and game controllers" heading to find your sound card. The name will depend on what sound card is installed on your PC. It will most likely have a name containing "audio." It should look something similar to the example above. You'll know immediately if there is a major driver error because an exclamation point (!) will show over the card's icon.
* Double-click on the name of the sound card to open a new window. In the new properties window click on the "Drivers" tab. If there is no "Drivers" tab then you chose the wrong sound device. Go back and try again. On the "Drivers" tab, click the "Driver Update" button. Follow the Wizard's onscreen instructions to update your driver. You can also contact the manufacturer of your PC for the most recent audio drivers. They can usually be found online.
o If you already have the most recent driver, click the "Uninstall Driver" button. Then restart your computer. When you restart your computer, the driver should reinstall automatically. If it does not, install it manually with software (or a download) from the manufacturer.

5. Check the "Windows Troubleshooter". On the "Drivers" tab mentioned in the step above, there is a button for troubleshooting the device. Click on that button, and follow the instructions on screen.

6. Check the sound card itself. Properly shut down your PC and then disconnect all cables on the back of your PC, including the power cable. Open up the CPU, making sure to touch a grounded metal object (a doorknob or metal desk will work, for example) before opening up the case. This will discharge any static electricty you have built up, which could damage your computer.
* Locate the audio plug on the back of your PC. The sound card should be in the corresponding location on the inside of the PC. Remove the sound card and put it back in. The Microsoft site has detailed directions for installing a sound card; to remove one, simply do the reverse. Once you have the sound card back in, reattach the cables you unplugged earlier and boot your PC.

Tips

* If your sound card is built into the motherboard do not try to remove it. Your entire mother board will be needed to be replaced if the sound card is the problem. Another option is to buy a seperate PCI sound card and then install it.

* If you're having problems with speakers emitting a static or crackling noise, it may be caused by a high speed internet box. Moving the box away from the speakers or the speakers away from the box may help if this is the case.

* In some cases, you will be receiving high amounts of static from the "CD Player" and / or "Line in" channels. This can be corrected simply by lowering the volume or muting these channels in Volume control (Start>All programs>Accessories>Entertainment>Volume control)

Hope this will be of some help for you!

Is there a microphone headset without headphones?

Q. I want a microphone for playing computer games, but i dont want headphones. Is there a wearable microphone that doesnt come with headphones?

A. Yes There Is At Best Buy

Can you get sound from a 360 to a computer moniter without built-in speakers with an HDMI cable?
Q. I have a BenQ V2400W LCD monitor and some sort of Logitech 5.1 surround system that works great with my monitor when playing computer games in 1080p, and it makes 360 games look great, too. I can deal with it for games like madden, but for Mass Effect, you just need sound. So, is there any way so I can the game on the computer monitor?

A. yes you can connect your logitech system to the audio autput or headphone output of the lcd monitor. But if the logitech system has seperate inputs for the front rear and center you won't be able to have 5.1 sound but just stereo.
OR you can connect 360 to your lcd hdmi input as you do usually and then the lcd audio output connect it to your computer's line in(but this depend on your computers sound hardware).

What is a really good gaming and media computer that's 400-800 dollars?

Q. I really need a good gaming computer. Laptops would be preferred. So if you now of anything please tell me???!!!!

A. hi there.... try you look at this site. I found at google last week
http://shape-gaming-computers.blogspot.com/

What do I need for a good gaming computer?
Q. My budget is 800 dollars and I want a computer that can run high graphics on games like Minecraft, Dungeon Defenders, and other Steam games.
I would prefer a desktop over a laptop, though it does not matter.

A. Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129042

RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231428

Optical Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827140041

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115074

Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131773

Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161384

Power Supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371044

Hard Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136769

Not needed but high recommended if you want to play games:

Aftermarket CPU Cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065

Total: $783.91

This is almost the same exact list I used to build my first gaming computer back in December. I can play Skyrim, Minecraft, Battlefield 3, MW3, and any other game (except Crysis 1 and 2) on high. I highly recommend getting an aftermarket CPU cooler. I had very high CPU temps before I installed it. High CPU temps can lead to a shorter CPU lifespan. Also, while building make sure to stay calm. Don't freak out like I did. Good Luck!

How much computer stuff would I need to play Rome Total War 2 for optimum performance and graphics?
Q. Need a new computer. Not really a tech junkie so keep the explanation simple. What kind of computer would be good? How many graphics or Sound cards would I need? How much will it cost me to play this game. Im such a fan I must know

A. Well it's not released yet, so nobody is 100% certain right now. However, it's going to have a new engine and people expect it will have similar requirements to Total War: Shogun 2.

http://diaryofdennis.wordpress.com/2012/07/03/total-war-rome-2-estimated-system-requirements-and-release-date-probably-2013/

So basically, that means a desktop computer around $800-$900. The bottom-line specs you'll want:

1 - Core i5 processor (2nd or 3rd generation)

2 - At least 4GB of RAM (almost all new systems come with 8GB anyway)

3 - A graphics card around $125-$150, at least a Radeon HD 7770 or GeForce GTX 560 SE. Get a $170 card like a GeForce GTX 560 or Radeon HD 6870 and you'll be way in the clear.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/5541/amd-radeon-hd-7750-radeon-hd-7770-ghz-edition-review/14

Building from scratch is the best option, as pre-built systems typically don't have good graphics cards. You could always buy a $600 computer from Best Buy and upgrade the graphics card and power supply yourself, or pay a tech to install 'em for you. You could also look into getting a custom-built system from CyberpowerPC or Ibuypower's websites, but that costs more.

Here are some stock computers that would work:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229335
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227412
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227435

But you'd be better off buying this:
http://www.amazon.com/Gateway-DX-Series-DX4860-UR14P-Desktop/dp/B007W11590/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1349292447&sr=1-2&keywords=gateway+desktop+i5

Then adding these:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371031
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130661

If you're planning to play on a full HD monitor (1920x1080 resolution) then you should get a 2GB graphics card. But the card model is more important than the memory. Don't think for a second that a $60 card with 2GB would work. You'll need a gaming-level card, like this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814129230

Anyway, upgrading a starting computer might save you $100-$150 compared to looking for a pre-built system with the specs you want.

Is imagination still the best form of entertainment?

Q. With today’s technologies and games, do you think imagination is still the best form of entertainment? Studies have actually shown, and I am sure from your own observation you can see that just about everyone watches TV seemingly endlessly.

As well, with things like the Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3 (and the other previous video game systems), PSP, Nintendo DS, computer games, internet games, and a thousand other forms of gamming people really do not have to rely on just “pretending” or “make-believe” anymore. However, at the same time, things like Barbie and Hot Wheels are still among the top sellers. So, has imagination lost its rank or do you think it still reigns supreme?

A. The most entertaining things, are still, generally the most imaginative ones. The most popular movies, Star Wars, Shrek, Lord of the Rings etc, are about stories that took a tremendous amount of imagination to create. The most popular video games are similar in that regard, they are the ones with the most intricate worlds, and therefore the most imaginative.

Having said that, by entertaining ourselves with someone else's imagination, we lose much of our own, and that's why originality in these arenas is actually on the decline.

Imagination is the BEST form of entertainment, but it may be losing its grip on the most utilized form.

What is the best of the best brand of Laptop computers to buy?
Q. I'm looking to buy a new computer, but I don't know what the best brand would be to get? I basicly just use my computer for the internet, games, and Itunes. What do you recommend???:)

A. There is no "best brand". You start at price and decide features that are most important to you.
In general, Samsung, Apple, Lenovo Ideapads and Thinkpads, Asus, MSI, Sony and Toshiba that is not Satellite are in the upper half.

HP-Compaq, HP-Pavilion, Dell Inspiron, Acer-Gateway, Lenovo Essentials, Toshiba Satellite are all in the bottom half, and better grades of HP and Dell could be OK.

Gaming needs GPU Graphics power and which games determine how much.
A higher resolution screen is a big plus.
A better CPU helps.
Lighter in weight is often good.
This is CPU+Graphics
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmarklist.2436.0.html
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphic-Cards.13849.0.html

Brand is only one factor. Apple tends to cost a lot of money for the cpu, graphics, ram, and is not software compatible to most gaming without adding Windows. Generally, the price is 50% higher on similar specifications and size/weight, and more than double price if you allow a thicker and heavier system.
http://www.rescuecom.com/news-press-releases/Computer-Reliability-Report-2013.aspx
http://www.pcworld.com/article/2020725/apple-macbooks-lead-in-laptop-features-and-reliability.html
http://www.pcworld.com/article/244419/laptop_reliability_and_satisfaction_macbooks_rule.html
There is no exact consistency by brand.

If you are non-USA, brands by country change for value in the purchase.
A Lenovo Y510p in the USA is a great value at +/- $800.

Those that look at brand first, usually need a lot of help to know good from bad. It is very common in China and India to trust by brand first because technology among people and higher quality items purchasing is very new to most people there. Anyone following trends or any single recommendation without documentation and checking up is not a good way to buy.

How do I play a computer game on a mac?

Q. I have a computer game that i would like to play on my mac. When I put it in the slot it showed up on the desktop but when I click on it all this stuff comes up. Which one do I click on and which application do I open it with?

A. Is it a game for Windows? That's the only reason that I can think of why it would do this..... Check the box for information/ system requirements. If it is for Mac, then I will explain how to install it. You entered the explorer window. You are basically browsing through all the files burned on the disk. If you are looking in the root menu (beginning menu) when you are browsing the disk, there will be an "install" icon of sorts. Click on that. If it doesn't work, then there will be another icon that looks like a notepad, it will say "autoplay" click on that and it will install.

Any idea on the computer requirements for The Elder Scrolls Online?
Q. Does anyone have an idea on what the computer requirements would be for The Elder Scrolls Online? Perhaps less than Tribes: Ascend, Smite, or Hawken? Those are the games I can play (Tribes and Hawken at lowest settings). I really want to play it at a good frame rate so just throw me your ideas.

Thanks ahead of time!

A. Nothing is really known yet, this is just a guestimate.

How much would a good gaming computer cost to build?

Q. I'm not asking for a monster gaming computer that would cost around $3000. I'm talking about a suitable one that can get atleast 45 fps on first person shooters with max graphics. I've seen some good ones for $600, but I'm willing to spend $1000 - $1500.

A. When doing perfect shopping, using Newegg for Avatar, CyberpowerPC, iBuypower brands and willing to change out the power supply, the savings versus build your own is often very small, especially for the ones they cut in price because of customer dissatisfaction about what they bought.

In building your own, I believe it is best to use the addage, plan twice and cut once. It should take a lot more time to figure out what to get, then the mechanical processes of ordering and assembling and install and test. You should be willing to learn about each component available, and that also allows future upgrade and repair and issue resolving to be much easier, and avoiding those future potentials.

You have the ability to decide your goals.
- Highest gaming performance per dollar spent
- Aiming performance towards particular games and function needs. Some need strong CPUs and Crysis-3 seems to use hyperthreading and all the cores(even 8 core) where most other use only 4 cores or less. Video editing takes a strong CPU+RAM and a solid state drive. Internet speed takes an SSD to improve it by the cache storage.
- Quality, stability, reliability
- Upgradability - ease of upgrade - (It costs more for a proper 2 PCIe x 16 motherboard and better power supply than you need up-front and the better air flow of a good case, but it allows a simple add of a second graphics card in crossfire/SLI). CPU sets the motherboard options, setting up the CPU upgrade options.
- Appearance, aesthetics inside and out

You need to hone down exactly what you want to spend within about $50, and if you want more help from hardware guys like me, you will have to name particular games more than a category. Are you ONLY interested in first person shooter games, or might you expand to others.

And, the very important shopping and compatibility:

Graphics card power supply auxiliary connectors and a minimum wattage of high quality PSU

Understanding power supply selection basics, which is the least focused and one of the most important choices:

Pre-built PCs often use the cheapest power supplies and motherboards, and your advantage in building your own is choosing better parts that won't cause issues.
You can get a great gaming PC probably about GTX 770 and intel core i5 overclocked with a good motherboard and SSD towards the top end of your price that would be a tier one gaming pc with ultra play. The monitor/display is very key also. Is that included in your price, and keyboard and mouse and speakers, headset, etc. You need to list what is included.
Parts compatibility and optimizing is key. In PCPARTPICKER you can share a link to a part list and ask for improvements with a price in mind. They have sample builds, so I'll skip that minor task here for now. I preferred to give you the meat of the process. Watch youtube videos about the construction and take digital photos of an inside of an existing pc to be able to duplicate it.

What is the least I could expect to pay when building a computer able to run skyrim relatively comfortably?
Q. Hi, I've decided to build a decent computer, capable of running new games like skyrim, and have very little money to work with. I don't know much about computers but I'm trying to learn. I'll make this four questions: what is the least I might expect to pay, which parts should I look for, does newegg free shipping apply to uk and can someone send me a link to a site explaining hardware jargon, what it means physically and how it affects performance.

A. if you know how to and where to get the parts, you could even pay around $500.00 or less, but otherwise you will be looking at paying a good amount of money. i dont know what os skyrim needs, but xp is still best for gaming (most new games have less errors when using it than vista and 7 have) Look for barebone kits instead of getting everything seperate, some things you get in them may need to be upgraded, but it can still be cheaper than buying every part seperate. Last year i built what was (at the time) a top of the line gaming computer for $300-$400. I could have spent less considering i have multiple old computers with all their parts, but they are all old. So that means i had a keyboard, speakers (bought a headset $20.00 used), mouse, and monitor. The CPU fan was the only bad part which i didn't know until a few days ago..... a good CPU fan is below (the one i am getting to replace the terrible one i have).

Can I have two audio outputs for my computer running at once?
Q. I remember once seeing my friend playing music from her speakers, while talking through a Mic and headset all at once. Is it possible to have two outputs running at the same time, mostly for gaming purposes? I've never really used gaming headphones and a mic before, but I feel that the issue I will run into, is the fact that I will hear game sounds colliding with other people through the same headset.

A. Yes, your music is outputted to a speaker on a different line while you mic is a input on a different line. The only crossover sound will be what is heard through your mic

How much time do you spend on Yahoo Answers?

Q. Just curious. I know some of us are retired and have more leisure time so probably spend more time here than others. I was wondering because my husband thinks I spend way too much time on Yahoo Answers. In turn, I think he spends way too much time playing computer games. Do you come to Yahoo Answers every day? Do you come on Yahoo Answers several times a day? How many minutes are you on Yahoo Answers? Or how many hours are you on Yahoo Answers? Does your spouse or another family member think you are on Yahoo Answers too much?

A. If I spent as much time exercising as I do on the computer, I think I could qualify for the olympics. I'm retired, and I don't think I've found the ideal schedule for my time yet. Ha ha.

Could a system like Yahoo Answers be used to help fight global poverty?
Q. I would like to hear some thoughtful responses to this idea: I suggest an internet match-maker system, with a few tips borrowed from Yahoo Answers. Yahoo Answers (along with other similar systems) has proven that there are vast numbers of people in the world who would like to help other people. There are even more vast numbers who would enjoy helping others (or at least would not mind making some small effort to help) in exchange for some sense of accomplishment and possible public recognition in a points-scoring/game type of setting. (Computer games in general demonstrate that people enjoy advancing through levels of achievement, even if the "reward" of all of this effort is just points scored in a game.)

Since I have almost used up my 1000 word limit, I will continue outlining my idea in the additional details below.
So my basic idea is this: Make the elimination of poverty into a sort of internet computer game. Here is one possible way to do it: Some organization (with an internet presence, or at least ties to an internet company) would take upon themselves (perhaps with the help of income from ad revenues – more or less like free Yahoo services) to identify poor and/or suffering people all over the world who need help. They would gather some basic info about the person and verify that the person's suffer in is real. (This could involve simply sending a team of people to some impoverished area with cameras, etc. and randomly picking people who can be helped.) This information (with the permission of the person, of course) would be uploaded to a website that would work like a combination of a match-makers service and Yahoo Answers (which I will refer to as "YA").
The story of each suffering person would play roughly the role of a question on YA. The responses of people would play the role of the "answers" in YA. Only in this case the "answers" would be tangible forms of help. In most cases this would be a small donation of money (sent to the administering organization, which would then make sure that it is delivered to the suffering person), but in some cases it could involve some other means of help, such as offering the person a place to live, or thinking up other creative ways to help.

Once the suffering person receives the help (and engages in some sort of dialogue with the answerer through the help of the administering organization), some points are awarded to the "answerer", who then advances to higher levels in the system.
Ideally, people who might otherwise spend most of their time playing games that generally have no meaning beyond the immediate enjoyment of playing might become addicted to the joy of helping others.

In his featured question, Muhammad Yunu asked "How can you help to create a poverty-free world?" Since my answer was number 3952, I don't expect that anyone will ever read it. So I basically turned my answer into this question. I would like to hear some thoughtful responses.
Reading the responses has led me to a new idea: Perhaps an on-line payment company (like PayPal) could team up with the administering organization so that monetary donations could be easily recorded. I would not expect the on-line payment system to be completely free, but the charges could be radically reduced (say, to 1/3 of the usual fee), then the difference could count as a corporate donation/tax write-off. So, for example, if the usual transaction fee is 3%, then normally a $100 contribution would make $3 profit for the bank, but in this case it would only make $1 profit, with $2 counting as a corporate donation for tax purposes. Thus the receiver would end up with $99. This is a far better percentage than most charitable organizations can achieve, and would probably be good business for the on-line payment company. I'm not sure how other creative forms of contribution would be recorded, but at least the monetary contributions could be handled by a very efficient system.
To "I'm gonna tell you": I agree to some extent. Ideally we want everyone to have a meaningful job (or at least a job of some sort) and we want everyone to be more charitable at heart (because there will always be circumstances that lead to human suffering, and people will need help). But the whole point of my suggestion is to find some way that people can indulge in some personal pleasure (like the sort of pleasure people get from Yahoo Answers or playing games) AND still end up helping people in some small way. The time and money that some people would normally spend on fun and games anyway could be channeled in some way that gives it a more socially productive twist. Perhaps my specific suggestions would not work, but maybe someone will come up with some variation on these ideas that might actually work! At least this is my hope.

A. I love your idea and let's make Yahoo a Charity place for everyone. Yahoo can do a matching fund such as I donate1 dollar then Yahoo match $2 . Yahoo can create a Charity Non -Profit and Use the money for our Poverty friends around the world. I am very very sure We can do. Yahoo will have her statement for the amount she receives and spends for poverty areas. If people see then they believe Yahoo Answer Poverty. As a result, your genius idea is working my friend, I really want to see how you look like. You are touching my heart and soul about giving to others. Thank you for making my day.

What are the minimum system requirements to play current computer games?

Q. I am in the market for a new computer and I'd like something that will be able to meet the requirements for playing computer games. I'm not looking for top of the line equipment, just something that will get me by without too many problems. If anyone could give me some advice on these areas, I'd appreciate it:

1. CPU (Minimum Athlon/Intel processors to consider)

2. RAM (1 GB or 2 GB? And what type of RAM?)

3. Video Card (I need the most help with this, every computer I've ever bought seems to come up short in this area).

I'd welcome any other advice or comments you might have. Thanks in advance!

A. core 2 duo is whats good right now. no need for a quad core. p4 are still very usuable if you cant afford a core 2 duo, but it would be worth the extra investment to get it. core 2 takes less power to run and performs better especially if your multitasking.

1gb is pretty close to the min system requirements for the newer games, id go with 2gb for optimal performance.it will be ddr2 most likely

the 8 series from nvidia is the newest. with the 8800 being the top of the line. but since you dont need the best you can get a 8600gts which is what i bought for aorund $175. or the 8500 for around $75 if you look for the good deals. The 8 series cards also have directx10. if you dont have windows vista or dont plan to upgrade it tohugh you can get some of the 7 series cards that are as good as the lower end 8 series but they only have dx9. for the 7 series id get something like the 7900. also check to see if your mobo is sli rdy so you can use to video cards of the type to get even better performance.

What is the best processor, mother board, video card, and etc.for computer gaming desktop?
Q. Im planning to put a computer gaming shop business. Please give me advice on whats the most affordable but best set up of computer I can assemble.please be specific.im really not a tech person.

A. It is all very budget dependent. Here is a nice $1000 part set if putting it together yourself, and be sure to watch youtube videos and work on a non-static flat big surface and wear gloves or ground yourself and never force things together.
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/zWjz
CPU Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz 4 cores, 4 threads since gaming does not use hyperthreading nor more than 4 cores.
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106-5.html
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler - a good value for overclocking the CPU. It is tall, but very efficient and priced well.
Asus P8Z77-V LK ATX LGA1155 Motherboard - supports overclocking, and has 2 slots of pciex16 to possibly add a second GPU in SLI at another time for crossfiring instead of replacing the graphics card as you would in a 1 slot system.
G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 The right amount for gaming in the right speed for the CPU and is a good brand 1.5V with heat spreader in CAS 9
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive - fairly reliable bulk storage in a good size of a terrabyte
Sandisk 64GB 2.5" Solid State Disk - to hold Windows and a few games for fast load and top performance. Can use half in partition for Intel RST/SRT HDD acceleration if preferred.
Video Card Galaxy GeForce GTX 660 2GB - Highly rated solid performer. I did not look up its status for SLI vs crossfire
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/660?vs=548
Cooler Master Storm Enforcer ATX Mid Tower Case - Nice looking case with good air flow and roomy. Starts with only 2 fans as adequate, but could add a top fan. There are many good choices of cases. Has USB 2 and 3 and audio ports.
Rosewill Green 630W 80 PLUS Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply
Decent enough as a single rail (one +12V as preferred) with a 6 and 6+2 pcie connector set and since GTX 660 needs only one, should be enough for crossfire one day without changing it. 50A (600 watts) on 12V to power GPU, CPU, fans and disk drives. There are better and worse PSUs but this is surely at least adequate and more.
Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer - any DVDRW
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit)
gamers prefer Win 7
Still need keyboard, mouse, audio output (speakers/headphones), and a display

How do I hook my xbox 360 to my computer monitor?

Q. My monitor only has DVI and VGA. But I would like to use my computer monitor to play xbox 360 games. Is this the sort of cable I need? http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-HDMI-Adapter-Cable-Meters/dp/B001TH7T2U/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

If I use that cable will my computer speakers pick up the audio from my xbox or would I need another cable for that?

A. You need an xbox vga av cable like this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002DGPNOM/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00

As for the seller, I recommend eforcity. I always order from them :p
Since your monitor doesn't have hdmi, this cable will connect your xbox directly to your monitor through the vga port. If you get a third party cable, the color will be a little washed out, but it's not too noticeable. As for audio, you'll need something like: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009JFF7A/ref=oh_details_o05_s00_i00 if you have a typical speaker system with the standard 3.5 mm plug. The red and white plugs will fit into the adapter for sound.
These should work. I actually just successfully set up my xbox with my samsung syncmaster monitor using these exact products a few days ago.
Good luck! :)

I am looking for a 24ish in monitor to play xbox and pc games on?
Q. I do not know anything about computer monitors. Therefore i will not be disappointed with a lower quality monitor, however, i would like a quality monitor that will suit my needs. I am guessing i will need a normal quality monitor (nothing "gamer") but not anything junky. I really appreciate all of the help i could get. I am willing to spend up to 250 dollars including shipping. Links would be helpful. Thanks again!

A. I have this monitor http://www.bestbuy.com/site/LG+-+23%22+Widescreen+Flat-Panel+LCD+HD+Monitor+-+Black/9274616.p?id=1218072891677&skuId=9274616

I really like it. I would definitely recommend an LG monitor. They are top of the market in quality. Another brand worth considering is Asus. I haven't seen any of their desktop monitors but the screen on my Asus laptop is amazing. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010190020%2050001315%201309821328&name=24%22

Which computer major can give me the basics of computer Gaming ?

Q. I am planning to study Computer information systems for my Bachelors Degree, then for my masters i'll study Computer Gaming. My question is will the Computer information systems or computer networking or the computer science build great structure for my knowledge that will help me learn easily in computer Gaming? And which one of these will help ?

A. If you're up to the internal system of programming a computer game, go for Computer Science. You can also take ComSci for the computer graphics.

Either way around, take Creative Arts and Design if you're up to Digital Structure or 3D Modelling.

What would you like to see change in computer gaming systems?
Q. I recently read that the computer gaming industry is running at 30 or 40% of what they could really be. What would change this? What needs to be done to increase this percentage?

A. personally i would like to see games utilize the dual core technology more, i recently bought Doom but found it only using half of the dual core (one core only) and as its a new comp i built i am really looking for a game to test its limits.

better programmers, and people emplyed only to come up with new game ideas would certainly be a help. also more 3d games and extreme interactive technology if you can find technology to help you pet your cat if your in asia and your cats in ontario why cant you wear a suit that when you get shot vibrates in that spot?

What would be a good laptop for playing Empire: Total War?

Q. I'm pretty new to gaming on computers and i was wondering what might be a good laptop to play Empire: Total war, Napoleon total war and other games like these. I want a nice computer that can also do some basic stuff like microsoft word and such. Also, i'm looking for a low price, no more than $1,500 if at all possible.
Thank You

A. ok first off as a pc gamer i wouldnt recommend you getting a laptop for playing games like empire, napoleon, and other pc games. laptops are generally more expensive and are much harder to upgrade. lets just say u were to buy a laptop now and the time came when u needed to upgrade in order to play the lastest games it would cost u double to upgrade parts proccesor, graphics card, memory, etc etc and you have to find parts that will fit in ur laptop not all graphics cards and parts will fit in there. A $1,500 laptop will get u decent one thats ok but not that good for gaming. if ur looking for a laptop thats powerful ur looking at 2k at least. my pc for example is very good i got mine for $1,100 if i wanted to get the same specs on a laptop it would cost me alot more.

so i personly recommand getting a desktop instead it will be much cheaper and easier to upgrade future parts. and for a $1,500 gaming destop you will be getting a very good one.that will play any game on the market maxxed out.

good luck m8 on choosing!

Can I play Empire Total War with this computer?
Q. My computer is an AMD Phenom 8450 Triple Core 2.10 Ghz with 4 GB of ram and is 64 bit. I checked the minimum requirements of empire total war and I surpassed every one of them except for the Ghz requirement. Can all the other specs somehow make up like the triple core... Can i still play the game?

A. depends on the video card...
and your processor is triple core, minimum says 2.4 GHz on SINGLE core so you probably have that on a pretty fine performance
your RAM exceeds requirements by far
if u dont have a good video card you can buy a great one for $100-$150
so check and if you hve above a 256mb card your probably fine with your computer...
hope this helps... good luck

What is the best gaming computer under 1000 dollars?

Q. I am 13 I have been wanting a computer to run UDK and all of that. Which gaming computer do you recomend. Also please let it be in price range. Thank you!

A. I would suggest to build your own PC.
AMD Radeon HD 7850
Intel i5-3570k processor
Windows 7
Antec 902 V3 mid tower case
Corsair - 8GB DDR3 SDRAM Memory Module
ASRock Z77 Extreme Motherboard
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB
HP - 24x Internal Double-Layer DVD±RW/CD-RW Drive
Corsair 600w Power supply

Where could I buy a good gaming computer for $800 dollars?
Q. I really want a gaming computer but I only have $800-$1000 dollars to spend. Where could I buy one that actually works well and plays most games. (Skyrim, Minecraft,Fallout 3,etc.)

A. You would be better served by building your own! Often the "factory" high end machines are NOT as high end as they clam! and they add a lot of unnecessary bloatware and peripherals you don't need. You can make a very nice game rig for $800....$1000 will make a REALLY nice one!

Q. I can't decide if I want an Intel-i7 or a AMD Phenom II processor

A. 1. Whats your budget?

Cheapest computer build that will run cod black ops?
Q. Please give some examples with prices and all the components I will need or links is fine.

A. First of all, what Black Ops are you talking about? The first one or the second one(due to be released later this year? ).
System requirements for Call of Duty : Black Ops(1) are:
Core 2 Duo processor E6600
2GB of RAM
256MB GeForce 8600GT / ATi X1950 PRO
12GB of free disk space.

Based on that data I would say you would need the following (MINIMUM) configuration to run Black Ops 2:
Core 2 Duo E8400 / any 3.0GHz+ dual core processor
3GB of RAM
Radeon HD4870+ (minimum 256MB / 512MB)

Recommended system requirements(my guess):
Intel Core i5/ AMD Phenom II X4 /any 2.8GHz+ quad core processor
4GB of RAM
Radeon HD6850 1GB / nVidia GeForce GTX 260/275

Paste the codes in the searchbox on www.newegg.com
Getting a DUAL-CORE system is NOT the smartest thing to do in 2012 when games are being optimized to run better on quad core processors.....the dual core era is over, no matter what die-hard fans say.
Computer configuration:
N82E16813131767 (the motherboard is worth spending every buck on because it's the base structure for your whole computer and it also dictates what upgrades you will be able to buy for your PC in the future)
Processor:

Aftermarket cooler:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835999013&Tpk=N82E16835999013

Memory:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145346&Tpk=N82E16820145346
Cheaper alternative:
N82E16820104218
Graphics card - very important in a gaming computer:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125376&Tpk=N82E16814125376
Hard Disk Drive:
Cheapest one worth buying: N82E16822236079
My "minimum to consider" personal recommendation:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148840&Tpk=N82E16822148840
Power supply:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817148046&Tpk=N82E16817148046
The computer case is a matter of taste, but the cheapest one would be:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811154095&Tpk=N82E16811154095
Optical drive:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136247&Tpk=N82E16827136247
You may also need 2 of these: N82E16812123111
This is what your tower would be. If you want the cheapest solution you may want to stick to your current display, mouse & keyboard, speakers ..etc. and just get the "core" of the computer(that is, the tower).
CPU - $100
CPU Cooler - $26
Motherboard: $95
Memory - $25
Graphics card : $65
HDD: $65 / $100
PSU:$40
PC Case: $20
Optical drive(s) : $18
SATA Cables: $9
TOTAL: $463 / $498 (with the 1TB HDD)
I wouldn't even recommend an Intel configuration since their cheapest quad-core processor is $180.
But for the sake of information flow:
You can keep your current configuration and only change the CPU and the motherboard in order to get an Intel computer. Since the minimum you should consider buying when it comes to CPUs is a quad core processor, for an Intel computer you would have to buy:
N82E16819115089 -$180
My recommendation, if you choose Intel, would be to add some bucks and go with the 2500K:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072&Tpk=N82E16819115072
-$220
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131711&Tpk=N82E16813131711
-$110
or
N82E16813131781
-$125
Going with an Intel configuration means paying a total of: either $532 / $587(with the 2500K and the $125 motherboard).
My personal recommendation is that, if you are on a budget, you should go with AMD, but if you can afford the cheapest Intel configuration, then go with Intel.
Intel is currently on top in terms of performance, but AMD isn't bad at all, actually it is a very good performer too.
As an alternative to that graphics card I recommended, you could also choose a more powerful GPU, like this one:
N82E16814102993
or this one

What is a great computer game that includes strategy and sci-fi that isn't complicated and/or expensive?

Q. I'm looking for a great computer game that is simple, fun, and not very expensive.

A. Try

Sins of a solar empire

Star wars empire at war

Star trek armada

Star trek armada 2

Starcraft

Starcraft 2 (comming out in 2010)

I would look gameplay videos online to see these games first then buy to see if you like them.

what program is used in most PCs to open internet explorer and computer games?
Q. Just today i was trying to open up a game on my computer when it asked me what i should use to open these types of files, without thinking i stupidly chose microsoft windows media center and now i cant open files and software such as: internet explorer and all other browsers, computer games and even programs like quicktime player and iTunes, please tell me what the default program to open these on a PC is. thank you!

A. There is no default program for .exe files as such.

For windows 7
download and install by double clicking on it.
or right click on it and select merge.
Fix .exe : http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/reg/antivirus-vista-2010/FixExe.reg

or

try to Fix it yourself

Broken EXE Association
instructions on how to repair :

XP > http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm

Vista > http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/105/1/File-association-fixes-for-Windows-Vista.html

Win 7 > http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/file-asso-fixes-for-windows-7/

read the notes at the top of the page for XP regardless of your system.

bear in mind it might just be the .LNK file association you have messed up.
so you might have to use that fix.
also bear in mind after applying the fix,
you will probably have to make all new shortcuts for your programs.
