Is this a good computer gaming desktop setup?

Q. Processor : Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E4600 (2.40GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800FSB)
System : Genuine Windows Vista® Home Basic, Service Pack 1
Monitor Dell E228WFP 22" Wide screen
Memory 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz - 2DIMMs
Hard Drive : 160GB 3 Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache
DVD+/-RW 16x
Video Card : Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3100

im getting a Geforce 8800gts pci-e card in a few months for it
so i should get the Radeon HD4850 instead of any of the geforce 8800

A. It always depends what kind of games you're going to play on it, but here's my take:
Speed-wise, the processor (at 2.40 ghz) is definitely sufficient. The only limiting factor on that component would be the 2mb L2 cache, they have higher-end models with 8 or 16mb which would help a lot on specific games, but in general it's good enough. 800 FSB (front-side bus) speed is also a bit low, but if you really need more speed (which you honestly probably won't), overclocking it would save you some money (look around the net and you'll find some help easy). Also right now, your greatest limitation is the intel graphics accelerator at least until you get the new video card.

Personally I find Vista fine. It's a lot of flash for more memory requirements, but it runs faster than windows 98 did on an old system back in the day. Doesn't matter if you get Home premium, basic, Business, or Ultimate. Standard gamers don't tweak out their systems that much or at all. (Although you may want to look at the different versions to see which features you'd want).

Your monitor is big. Big enough for any game. Although at such a high resolution, you're going to want to check to see if the output on your computer is digital (DVI connection). The Dell E228WFP itself inputs DVI, and it's response time (5ms) is better than a lot of other monitors. However, it'll be tough to play games on it with the integrated Intel graphics, but it'll be more than fine on the 8800.

Memory may be a problem. Vista's still needs streamlining, and it's memory usage still has problems. 2GB is definitely adequate, but for gaming, you may want to look for a greater size. Especially if you're going to play memory intensive games like Battlefield and the like. Also just helps with multitasking, but 4GB may be asking too much. Maybe look online for some deals for cheap, good memory.

Hard drive's enough. Seriously, if you need the space, just add another hard drive. It's safer that way anyways. 160GB is more than enough unless you're storing thousands and thousands of super-hi-res photos or videos. Games in total should take up less than 60GB. That's 100 for the OS, and I don't think it needs that much. 7200 RPM is standard. Don't listen to the people raving about the WD Raptor running at 10000 RPM, if you need a high performance hard drive, a SCSI drive will do better.

DVD drive...it's fine. Yeah, okay next thing.

Video card, here's your bane right here. It can run games like CS:Source with decent frames per second, but at lower details and quality. However, newer-gen games may take a hit from playing with this video card (or is it integrated?) In any case, get the 8800 GTS ASAP. You'll be able to play nearly any game on high/med settings. It also still performs better than the 9600 GTS, although I recommend getting the 8800 GT instead. More cost effective and less heat production than the GTS.

I've found that NVidia has a greater support for previous generation video cards (meaning they have a lot of their QA's test old stuff to make sure it still works) than ATI.
However, look up some reviews, there's always an on-going debate between NVidia and ATI video cards...
In the past, a lot of ATI cards outperform NVidia in OpenGL platforms but NVidia beat em on just about everything else (but that may also be because they had more people testing with M-Soft and tailoring for specific programs...)

The whole setup is better than what I had to work with when I started playing games. Although they've come a long way since then, an 8800 GTS would fill your gaming requirements for a while to come.
It doesn't seem like you're putting THAT much of an investment into the computer, but if you were, I'd recommend building your own. It's more cost-effective and you can get ridiculous amount of performance for the money. Not worth it, but fun when you can throw the money around and get the best of the best.

The system's perfectly find for gaming, once you get that new video card of course.

How is this gaming computer setup?
Q. I've posted something like this before but this is pretty much the final product. I just need to get it checked by people who know what they're talking about and maybe switch out a few parts if need be. Here's the list:

*-I am firm on this. It will not change unless I am given a very good reason. This is the case for most parts because I am trying to make this future-proof to avoid having to replace a ton of stuff after just a couple of years. It can't hurt to overdo what I need while I have the expendable income if it may help later down the road. I'm sticking with Windows 7. Not a fan of 8.
Forgot to mention, this is to handle recording/playong hogh end games like skyrim, bf3/4 etc. on ultra.

A. THIS IS A VERY SOLID SETUP AND A PERFECT BALANCED SELECTION OF PARTS!!!!!
first of all i recommend maybe a 750 watt psu so u can crossfire, also i recommend an asus or benq monitor for faster refresh rate, also PLZ FOR THE LOVE OF GOD USE DXTORY OR MSI AFTERBURNER TO RECORD GAME FOOTAGE, there is no frame drop when recording so this will be more then enough, also i forgot to mention give ur 8 core beast some justice and grab a corsair h80i or corsair h100i for around 100$, its great cooling, it looks nice, keeps ur temps low, and u can overclock on it super well!!! otherwise the build is fantastic!!

New computer with 700 dollars?

Q. Okay, so I want to buy a new computer. I have about 700 dollars to spend and only need the desktop, I don't need any packages for shit like printers, monitors, or anything of that nature. I'm looking for something strong that if needed I can upgrade. The key feature will be online gaming. I needs to be strong enough to play anything from World of Warcraft to minecraft to star wars all on high level graphics. I'd like to have a terabyte+ hard drive and 6+ gigs of ram. Anyone got any ideas? I can buy a supplemental graphics card.

A. Exactly^ Maybe 6GB will perform slightly better, but I doubt that 64GB and 6GB will have an impact on gaming. For online gaming, besides the basics (like good processor, video card, high RPM HD), you need a fast internet connection. That is something many forget.

whats a good pre built gaming computer for around 700 dollars?
Q. i found this computer online can someone tell me if this is computer worth getting will it play crysis 2 and may be up gradable. if not plz recommend me one and tell me about it. thank you in advanced.
THE GAMING COMPUTER i found

A. DEFINITELY WORTH IT, just get a thermal or water cooler if you know how to operate them.

Help me build a budget gaming computer?? 750-800 dollars.?

Q. i want to know what kind of parts i would need for a good gaming pc for 750-800 dollars PLZ i really need help with this

A. If you are looking to build a gaming computer 800 bucks is do-able and will give you a great powerful machine ... but spending closer to 1300 to 1500 will get you the best of the best.

What your looking for in a computer!

1. Ram (32 gig is plenty but you if you can find a motherboard / processor with more slots) I think theres 8 slots now? Try looking up things like '16GB DDR3-1600 Memory' or better

2. Processor (intel core i7 3820 processor (4x 3.60ghz / 10mb l3 cache) theres better out now.

3. video card (could be in motherboard or processor) adding a video card will speed up the computer. (look things up like:NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti 2GB) or better

3. Cooling system (this is something you need for a fast computer)

4. Power supply (may sound dumb but more power your fan, cooling system, processor, motherboard blah blah blah uses you need a fan alone to cool down the power.)

5. Disk space ... may sound dumb but more space you have faster your computer will run. Also if you want to download movies, songs or even anything your game gives uploading or downloading within the game.

I play many games and new games like Diablo 3 or Guild Wars or even Skyrim ... can run on systems with very low settings running. Faster you are less it will lag and freeze on you.

There is only 2 reasons why you need a fast computer.

1. Animation / AutoCAD Drawings / 3D Studio Max, Photoshop or CorelDraw ... etc.

2. Gaming online, some games require more processor or ram etc but I tried diablo 3 on a 4 year old system yes it ran slow but it lagged 3 times. My laptop is 7-9 months old, in the computer world thats old. I have never had a problem with any game to date. I have never lagged, dropped out of a game. Diablo 3 I'm still finding glitches and not worth buying.

Diablo 3 is garbage and blizzard knows it. I only play how to help those who cant kill diablo on inferno, make real life money (i dont buy online like gear ... so I make more money ;))

Gaming Computer Help?
Q. hey
i want a gaming pc for 800 dollars
that can run lots of games full high settings
can u list parts and links for the newegg websites that all work together
u will get best answer :)
this is my first build and i am kind of lost so i need help
thnx

A. $800 isn't very much for a gaming computer these days, but a lot of it boils down to personal preference as well as parts you already have. Odds are that you already have a display that you can use, but even if you're looking to buy a new one, I can't tell you which one to buy because you may be willing to spend more money on a big screen than me.

The motherboard and processor are the most important things to look at. Right now Intel processors are the best for gaming, but a Core 2 Quad processor will cost you quite a bit and a Core i7 will cost even more. At the very least get a good Core 2 Duo. Whatever you choose, just make sure that your motherboard is made for your processor, or that your processor is made for your motherboard. For example, Core 2 Quads use an LGA 775 socket, so you would want to make sure that your motherboard also uses an LGA 775 socket. Your motherboard also needs to have an ATX form factor. Most desktop motherbaords are ATX though so don't worry about it too much. PCI-express is standard on most motherboards, but whether or not you care about having more than one PCI-express slot depends on whether or not you plan on having one or two graphics cards. A fast FSB (front-side bus) will help your processor perform better, but you need to balance its speed with your budget. For a gaming computer you'll probably want 4 slots. You'll probably only use one or two slots at first, but you may want to upgrade later.

If you buy a Core 2 Duo processor, you can probably get away with DDR2 memory, but if you buy a Core 2 Quad, make sure your motherboard supports DDR3 and that you buy DDR3 memory. You should have 2 GB at the minimum, but you could easily justify taking it up into the 4-8GB range.

SATA is standard in all computers now, so don't worry too much about checking for it on the motherboard, but do check to make sure that your hard drive supports SATA. The RPMs on your hard drive are also important. For a gaming computer make sure to get one that spins at 7200, but if you want even better performance, there are hard drives that spin at 10,000 or even 15,000 RPMs. 300 GB is more than I use right now, but hard drives easily go up above 1,000 GB (1 Terabyte) now, so choose a hard drive based on whether you plan on playing games or playing games and storing lots of DVDs on it.

Your graphics card is also extremely important, but can also be one of the most expensive parts. Lots of memory is good in a graphics card, but more important is the chipset it uses. Typically the higher number means a better card, but you may want to look it up for yourself because of how much of a difference it can make both in performance and in your wallet. The output of your graphics card is paramount. HDMI is great for some computer displays, especially because you can also use an HDTV with it, but maybe that's not important to you. DVI is pretty standard, but it's still something to check for if your display uses a DVI input. But maybe your display uses an older VGA connector. Check for it. If you plan on using two graphics cards, make sure it supports SLI for nVidia cards or Crossfire for ATI cards, and the two types are NOT compatible with each other.

A good DVD burner should be standard, and maybe you can cannibalize one from an older computer, but if feel like it's important, Blu-ray readers and even burners are available. Some Blu-ray readers are available for less than $100.

I've never gone super-extreme in building gaming computers, so for me a standard case and power supply is just fine, but make sure that your case is able to stay cool. Lots of fans don't necessarily mean that it'll keep your insides cool, and sometimes those fans just generate lots of extra noise. You'll also pay a premium for extreme designs. It's all up to you on what kind of case you want.

I realize I haven't given you a straight answer for anything, but the hunt for parts can be half the fun in building your own gaming PC, and hopefully you now know enough to customize your computer to your liking.

First upgrade your internet connection.

and you mentioned you are n't a geek, but I really refuce to agree that...

All the best for your online gaming, you know I too an online gamer.... I'm a pro in GUNZ game

I am looking for a free computer/online version of this game?
Q. A while back, there was an iTouch app called Frotz in which you went through fictional adventures via text commands. Like being in a book, for lack of a better description.

I was wondering if there is a free online/computer version or website that provides such a game.

A. I think "Adventure" might be one of the original text adventure games, which it sounds like is what you mean. There is a massively epic one called Zork which I particularly recommend; I spent a long while trying to play it, and it is... very very frustrating. (I'm pretty bad at these games, actually.)

can you connect a turtle beach gaming headset to your computer?
Q. it is an XLC Xbox 360 headset

A. Yes, just plug in the long cable to the green jack on your computer. If you need the mic to work too, then you'll have to get a 2.5mm-to-3.5mm female/male adapter to plug into the pink jack on your computer.

Computer Desks?
Q. where can I buy a good computer desk...the desk is mainly for gaming so it would be nice for it to hold my setup pretty good...i also dont want to spend a fortune on it.

A. I highly suggest one of those metal monstrosities from the fifties for durability (or something similar). After reattaching the keyboard shelf on our particle board desk for the second time, I'm seriously considering going metal. I think they look neat in a retro way.

Edit: Sorry, you asked where to get one. Try www.craigslist.com. There are always good finds on there.

Should i get video games even though my sister told me to get computer games?

Q. I ve always wanted video games wen my sisters were around but never need it. now my sisters went to college and im alone with my parents and granparnets. i really want vidoe games but my sisters tell me my parents are to cheeap to buy me new games everytime i want them? wat should i do

A. Computer games are video games...

BTW, I would suggest getting a system, rather then getting PC games... PC gaming is an even more expensive hobby then console gaming, as you need a good system to run the games to begin with and every couple of years you NEED (not have) to upgrade your system...

Where as the longevity in a modern console is about 5-6 years before a new system is released.... An upgrade to a PC can top 500 easily, if you want better then decent-really good hardware... Where as a console costs about 300..

Gaming computer components also aren't designed for long lasting life... They're designed for power, and the more power an electronic uses/generates, the more heat it generates, and heat is the enemy to electronics, it reduces overall life... That is why people invest in beefy cooling systems for their high end gaming rigs.

If your parents are trying to convince you to stick to PC games for the cheapness aspect, make sure you tell them the above, the overall cheaper route is consoles, PC gaming is better left to serious gamers with money to burn.

Can this computer handle modern video games?
Q. I'm talking games like Skyrim, Dragon Age, Dishonored, LEGO games, Diablo III, Assassin's Creed III and more. I looked up the specs and it seems like it'll run the games but I don't know for sure. Any thoughts?

Here's the link to the computer: http://h20386.www2.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=C3T59EA&opt=ABU&sel=PCDT

A. The Processor is slow(1.4ghz), Mine is 2.8ghz.
And the Video card is not that great, very weak card for gaming standards today
and Windows 8...Dont pick windows 8, Its meant for tablets.Id stick with Windows 7...
I recommend not getting this one if you are into gaming,
If you are gonna buy a PC you might as well build it yourself, so you'll know exactly what your new computer can do...and its cheaper..atleast mine is, Only took me 18,000 Pesos(Phillipine Money)

Is this a good setup for gaming, and is this a good price?

A. common Mister Benjamin do not insult us with your power house PC. Not everyone is as fortunate or lucky to have a PC like this. I do not find any single reason that this PC wont be competitive and with all the specification it could easily run quite well in the next 2-3 years without any hassle. Speaking of playing games, damn, you are enticing us, stop doing that. the price is also reasonable. Wonderful choice and selection of parts. Good Luck

What's a reasonably good gaming computer for a reasonable price?
Q. Hi,
I'm looking for a good gaming computer for a good price. I'm also thinking of "building" my own computer. So, if you could recommend a good computer or a good processor and/or graphics card. The furthest extent of the games that I'll be playing would probably be Portal 2, Half-Life 2, Loadout, The Ship, and maybe Team Fortress 2 and Garry's Mod. I'm not asking for a top-of-the-line gaming computer. Nor, the latest and greatest parts. If you would kindly recommend a reasonable computer and/or parts for these games, that would be great. If it could also be less than $500 in total, that would be awesome. Also, I don't care if it's a laptop or a desktop, as long as it works well and is within my budget, that's awesome as well.
Thank you,
Nick
I already have a PS3, and have a enough money tucked away for the PS4. I travel a fair bit(a couple times a week, but just to friends houses). A laptop would be nice and convenient, but it needs to be within my budget and can work well. If it needs to be a desktop, so be it. Thanks for the specs and recommendations, I'll be sure to look out for that.

A. Laptops are never considered as gaming accessories, it is only for those gamer's who are on the move and also like to play games while traveling. I personally own both a Sony Vaio Laptop ( which is still good for new games on medium settings) and a intel core i5 gaming rig.

When you are thinking about buying or building a custom end gaming pc.you have to keep some things in mind.

1. What is my budget?
2. Should i only be doing gaming on my pc or other side work too?

You have to Check for below things when buying or building a gaming pc.

1. A good Graphics Card ( This is my first Priority, I will recommend go for Nvidia or Ati ).
2. A bigger RAM ( 8 GB to 12 GB will be enough to run games in optimal settings ).
3. CPU ( Central Processing Unit : a intel core i3 or any other with same or greater performance ).
4. HHD ( Hard Disk Drive : Above than 200 GB you can go higher depending on your budget ).

The same requirements are for laptops too.

You can check website like Amazon, Best Buy and Ebay ( Ebay is particularly good if you are low on budget, but be careful while buying and always select seller that are in your country and have good ranking and reviews ).

I have a advice you mentioned your budget is $500 why don't you consider buying a next gen gaming console like Xbox One or PS4.

Because a Powerful Gaming PC/laptop has one downfall. You have to keep it upgraded as new games comes in the market. While a Console have no such issue. All new games don't require general requirements for a Console you can play any game you want till a new console comes in which is pretty much not happening soon after PS4/Xbox One.

Take a look at the gap:

PS1 release date : 1994
PS2 release date : March 4, 2000
PS3 release date : November 11, 2006
PS4 expected : November 2013
PS5 maybe : 2019-2020

same goes with Xbox One with little difference.

Each PlayStation has a Gap of 6 year's. That mean Buy a PS4/Xbox One and forget about spending money for next 6 year on another PS/Xbox Console.

Can you build a gaming computer for under $600?

Q. I want to get a fast gaming computer that will run great on a lot of the games on high FPS. My budget is only about 600-700 dollars. Is it possible??

A. You can build a gaming of for under 500$ so don't stress about 700$ that's a price that you pay to have a company make it for you. I made mine for about 150 dollars by just upgrading an existing computer I had

Computers pre-built meant for gaming under 600$?
Q. I was planning on getting this: http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/LAN_III_Mini-I, but I don't know what things to add to it. Are there any computers under 600$ that can run Far Cry 3 decently? I asked a question earlier about that computer, but I don't know if it's the best one to get or not, and I have no idea what to add to it. I have absolutely no idea, at all, no idea, how to build a computer, but if you can give me a link to the most exact tutorial in the world, I might be able to. Like, really exact, I have no idea at all how to build a computer, it seems like a very confusing thing. I'd need a link to all parts and everything and a tutorial with putting it together. If anyone has a link to a pre-built under 600$, that would be better.

A. For this, you'd likely want to build your own. It's truly quite easy and there are THOUSANDS of online tutorials to do it. Pre-build computers are usually WAAAAY overpriced. Alienware computers include.

So please, consider looking into selecting parts and building one yourself. You can even talk to people online who know things about computers who can help you select parts AND build it.

Computer Shuts Off Randomly on MMO Games?

Q. Okay I like to play Halo Trial for the PC (download), and Switch.in MMO. My computer is about 1-2 years old. Well anyways when ever I am playing either one my computer goes to a blue screen and shutsdown. I can only play these games for like 10 minutes before this happens. Can anyone tell me how to fix this please?

A. Sounds like a heat issue. Try this as a test. Get a small desk fan or similar. Open the side of the case and point the fan on high directly at the inside of the case. See if you can run your games longer.
It's unlikely this will fix your issue but if you could only play for 10mins before and you can (for instance) play for 20mins with the fan then your system is overheating.

MMO games ?
Q. what is a good alternative to runescape?

i havent played runescape for over 2 years and i would like to play a game like it, but not runescape.

A. Star Wars Galaxies was fun at one point, but if you had never played it before they ruined it, it would probably be fun for you.

Eve is really complicated, but it probably is fun. I never got too far into it because it was too complicated.

Anarchy online is free, and it should be pretty cool. I haven't played it because my computer was being a nazi that day.

WoW is alright. Its really addictive, which is bad because it costs money.

There are also MMO games like The Matrix and Lord of the Rings. I haven't tried them, but you can go to Sony Online Entertainment to get some info about them.

What video or computer games are considered "popular culture"?
Q. why are they considered popular culture? i plan on debating with my teacher about it and why video games are but i need evidence

A. Video games on a whole have become a part of mainstream culture. However, like most things, there is also a niche in gaming that only appeals to a certain audience and not the mainstream. Unlike other mediums that are mainstream, the Popular part of gaming is actually very small and applies to what is labelled casual gaming. Examples of popular and casual games would be Call of Duty, Fifa/Madden and the wii as a whole which appealed to people outside the sub culture.
There considered popular culture because they are well known and akwnowledged by people who are none gamers. Whilst a lot of games would just be saw as a nerdy or geeky thing by people outside of gaming, games like Chrono Trigger and Ico.

If you need evidence, ask someone who you know doesn't play games. Preferably middle aged people work best. Ask them:

1) Name three video games.
2) Have you heard of the Wii.
3) Have you heard of Call Of Duty / Fifa / Madden (Either one, Fifa is you live outside of america, madden if you live in america) Even pokemon works aswell in this question.
4) Have you heard of Final Fantasy VII / Ico ( Both very popular games to gamers and both were very well publicised, but it's probably only known if you play games)

It may seem a bit strange, but you will see what I mean if you ask these questions.
The first question, if you ask a non gamer, will most likely say Mario, Pokemon, Fifa, pac man or call of duty.
For the second question, the person will probably say yes, but you may see a bit of a link with the first question.
3) They will probably say yes.
4) They will most likely say no.

Draw your own conclusions and evaluations from there.

Is this a good computer build for gaming/ video editing?

Q. Motherboard: ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 AM3 AMD 890GX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI ATX AMD

CPU:AMD Phenom X6 3.2ghz black edition

Video Card:Sapphire 100283-3L Radeon HD 5770 Video Card - 1GB GDDR5, PCI-Express 2.0

Power Supply: Ultra X4 750-Watt Modular Power Supply - 135mm Fan, ATX,

Case: Cooler Master Storm Sniper ATX Mid-T Blk , comes with 3 200mm fans and 1 120mm fan

Planning on just using any sort of hard drive i got laying around at home, will upgrade later though
ram:G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1600

and i also have changed the moterboard to intel:
GIGABYTE GA-P55-USB3 LGA 1156 Intel P55 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
Also i am planing to get an i5-760
instead of the phenom, since itll be cheaper

i also have changed to power supply
CORSAIR HX Series CMPSU-650HX 650W modular
I am planning to use the stock cooler for the cpu

A. I don't know much about video editing and how CPU intensive it is, but from a gaming perspective, I would definitely choose a different CPU. The Phenom II x6 has 6 cores which most games can rarely take advantage of. The most modern games can maybe use up to 4 cores at once to full effect. So you're basically wasting 2 cores when using the Pheonom II x6 as a gaming CPU.
I'd suggest the Phenom II X4 970 instead. It's clocked at 3.5 Ghz which is higher than the Phenom II x6 so although it has less cores, it'll perform better in most games. It's also cheaper. For any better CPU, you'd have to switch to Intel since they have all the most powerful CPUs by far. The next step up would be a core i5-750 or 760 CPU.
Everything else looks pretty good. If you're looking for a better video card, check out the new Radeon HD 6850 and 6870. They just came out and they're pretty cheap cards for the amount of power they pack. Until the rest of the video cards get their prices lowered to adjust to the new cards, the new cards are some of the best valued cards out there.

Looks pretty good with the changes.

Is this computer good for gaming/video editing?
Q. I'm in the market for a new computer, and while looking around i found a computer that i like quite a bit, i just wanted to get a second opinion. i'm mainly going to use the computer for some studying and gaming/video editing.

Total cost for this unit is $1350AUD ($1230 USD) (and i'm not really willing to go much higher price than that)

so is this a good deal, or you guys might be able to point in to a better value item
yea it is from HT, too bad i cant afford its bigger brother http://www.ht.com.au/part/X2846-WKS-200-Intel-Core-i7-8GB-1.5TB-Win7-Pro/detail.hts :(

A. Yes it is great. I think the video card could be a bit better like a 270 or 280 but it's still a really nice video card especially with 1gb of built in ram on it.

This is a great computer for gaming so if you were thinking about getting it don't even think dude. This is good for everything you want don't even worry about that as long as you have the money for it.

Whats the best gaming computer on the market....under $1500?

Q. Hey i'm looking to buy a gaming computer under $1500 to play games like call of duty 4 or Hellgate. Would ya'll say like alienware or somthing like that?

Thanks =]

A. That's a hard one. Obviously, you are going to need to pay heavily for a good graphics card and a nice amount of memory, which you will need to play games like Crysis and Call of Duty 4. I would recommend a computer from Velocity Micro (desktop, laptops are way too expensive for a gaming computer in your price range). They are pretty well priced and look great.

Alienware computers are popular, but overpriced-not saying you can't find one in your price range, but they are a rip-off. I love Falcon Northwest, but once again, they are overpriced. Dell, Gateway, and other "standard" companies may have good deals, but they won't give you great recommendations for gaming.

If you have some time on your hands, I would recommend building your own. You can buy parts from newegg or a nearby store with a BYOC center. Despite what people say, it is not hard or expensive to build your own, just time-consuming. Find a guide online or someone at the store to help you, since buying a computer without all of the parts you need would not help at all.

No matter what, spend more on the Graphics Card and Volatile Memory (RAM). Upgrade those before anything else. Any dual core CPU at or above 2.4ghz should be fine. Spend the least on the case-if you need a cheap computer, go with a cheep case. After all, better to have a crappy looking powerhouse then an awesome looking paperweight.

Can this computer run all games on the market?
Q. Can someone also leave me anymore computers in a link that can run all games thats not all that expensive? I just think it looks weird lol. Thanks everyone. :)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227425

A. Hello!

When trying to figure out if the desktop that you want to purchase will be able to run the game that you are wanting to play, first be sure to take a look at the "minimum" and the "recommended" system requirements that the game manufacturers publish with every game and then compare them with the system specifications.

The system that you listed there has a fairly fast processor, and 8 GB of RAM (temporary memory), a moderately large hard drive (500 GB) and a good video card. The only thing I would probably consider upgrading on the unit would be the power supply. The video card alone requires 350W of power. If you ever wanted to upgrade any of the hardware in the system you also may have to upgrade your power supply as well.

Don't be afraid to shop around a bit. Stop by a local store to take a look at what is available in your price range. Do ask experts for advice and take notes. Compare computers that you like. Look for a computer that has:

--> A high performance processor -look for a Quad Core or better Processor
--> At least 8 -10 GB of DDR3 RAM
--> A large HDD (500 GB is medium size these days)
--> 500-1000 W power supply
--> Independent Graphics Card
--> The ability to be upgraded / expanded easily

and don't forget about the "extras" that you might want such as a high performance gaming mouse, surge protector, backup battery, and a service / protection plan. Most computers come with a manufacturer warranty, but that coverage is for a limited time and does not cover everything.

No matter where you go to get your computer, you want to make sure that your computer is covered in case of a power surge, or problem that happens after the manufacturer warranty period expires, or a problem that is not covered by the manufacturer's warranty.

Happy Gaming!

Gaming Desktop; Future Upgrades?

Q. Hello, I am considering buying a Gaming PC but I don't currently have enough cash, I would like to know a good PC that I can purchase and upgrade (RAM, Graphics Cards etc.) when I have the money,
I don't mind if you link me a Dell PC or maybe just tell me some good components :)

A. CyberpowerPC is a good choice for customized systems.

Buying directly from their site is REALLY nice- you can ensure your computer comes with a strong enough power supply to support future graphics card upgrades, which is typically the big problem with buying low-cost systems from HP, Dell, Sony, Acer etc.

For example, this Dell is a nice starting point:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Dell+-+Inspiron+Desktop+/+Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%23153%3B+i3+Processor+/+4GB+Memory+/+1TB+Hard+Drive/1677209.p?id=1218278292663&skuId=1677209&st=dell%20core%20i3&cp=1&lp=4

But it's only got a 300 watt power supply, so it can't be upgraded with serious gaming cards in the $100 and higher range. The best card you could stick in there is a GeForce GT440. Anything better would require buying a new power supply first.

Is the iMac wireless desktop computer worth the money?
Q. I was looking into making a investment in a new computer. My current computer is about 7-8 years old & the graphics are horrible for up to date anything. It has barely any programming & is just, well old. Im looking into buying a iMac wireless & wanted to know if it is truly as amazing as the reviews say? I want it mainy for graphics & gaming. Has a good word prosscesor for school, pretty much just has the full package of a tip top computer for 2011 & will contiue to be good for years to come. How much would it cost for everything all together? The screen, keyboard, mouse etc? All together? Im willing to order it from the apple store also. Need good reviews & the bad if there is any. Thanks for any & all help!

A. read this http://thenextweb.com/apple/files/2010/09/mac01.jpg

Macs are undeniably better designed, look better, and osx is slightly easier to use than windows. 95% of available software (especially games) is written for windows not macs though. PCs are much easier, and cheaper to repair. Macs and PCs now run on the same hardware, it is possible to run OSX on any PC, although not legally. If you look at the specifications of any mac, and find out how much a PC with the same specifications is, you will find the PC is much cheaper. Some of this is due to better design, but a lot of it is due to the huge mark-ups apple adds to things. Your choice.

What headphones are good for computer gaming?

Q. Optional: Why?

A. the razer tiamat's are a good entry pair of gaming headphones. it should help you test out whether you prefer positional audio setups (surround sound) or high fidelity stereo (don't be fooled, top of the line stereo headsets will outperform nearly every "gaming" equivalent).

The tiamat has a great condenser and the noise cancelling mic is superb. A con is it's not made for people with big ears. The mmx 300 has an incredible soundstage, and is one of the premiere "gaming" headsets that actually lives up to its word. much more expensive tho. check out sennheiser too.

help me build a top notch computer?
Q. with 2 grand i wanna build my own i want the nicest possible comp but i need some help. list all the parts (by name) and how much theyll be i have a mouse and headset but other than thati wanna start of 2011 with a beast and dont try and save me money try and hit the cap (dont forget i wannna bbuild my own comp dont leave outt cables a case speakers and everything in between)
THIS WILL BE A GAMING COMP
i really appreciate anyone whos taken the time out to write me an answer

A. Regarding processors, the i7 is the best. quad core, super fast, and decently cool. They are definitely top notch and the best out there.
- motherboard, get an X58 chipset motherboard. newest and most powerful out there.
- memory: DDR3 RAM I would say 6gb is good (3 x 2gb sticks)
Videocard: ATI Radeon 5970. fastest out there - about 650 bucks
you can stick 2 of these into CrossFire with a X58 motherboard.
Harddrives: the fastest out there are SSDs (solid state drives), but they are EXPENSIVE. other than that, get Western Digital Caviar Black Series harddrives. great speed, good price.
Sound card: I definitely recommend the Auzentech X-Fi Prelude. good sound card
Power supply: get anything 1 kW or more. If you can, get Antec or Corsair (MUST GET RESPECTABLE BRAND or else the power supply will probably be crap)

Case: its really up to you but check out the Corsair Obsidian 800D case

cables... you don't need anything. all power supply cables come with the power supply. All motherboard cables come with the motherboard, harddrives don't come with any (all included with motherboard and powersupply), and so on.

If you need anymore help, just email me and I will take the time to actually make a complete computer within budget. But for now, I'll just give you recommendations.

What is a really good gaming computer ?

Q. So I used to be on top of all the gaming news in the world but I kinda quite with computer games and went to consol games. Recently i have been missing the computer games and all I have to play is a 6 year old computer.
I have a mac but that can run games anywhere near as good as I would like it to.
I kno of a lot of companies that make amazing gaming computers. Like alienware but I was just going to ask are there any good gaming computers out there for a relatively low price??? Thanks for any answers!

A. Have you considered building your own gaming computer? It would be much cheaper than buying one from a company, such as alienware, that puts it together for you. What's a good gaming computer for a low price?
Q. I'm going to buy Arma 3 but it's a very detailed game, so i need a good computer to play it on. I know my laptop isn't going to be able to handle it. Any good computers anyone knows of? By the way, I've heard that desktops have better memory.

A. There is no such thing as a good gaming computer for a low price. If you want a computer to ACTUALLY play it at LOW graphics, try buying a computer from Costco.

If you want to play it on Very High graphics you will have to buy a computer that is over $1,500 dollars.

How to build a gaming desktop computer for under $1000?

Q. I want to build a gaming desktop computer very badly. However, my budget is only $1000. Could somebody tell me the parts I need to buy (that are compatible with each other) so that I could build a gaming computer? Also, the computer has to be able to run high quality games. I am a newbie at building computer so if somebody could recommend a site or something to me that tells me how to make the computer, thank you!
Also, I forgot to mention, I would preferably like the parts to be available on amazon.com since my dad usually doesn't trust other websites. Thanks!

A. For under $1000, you could pick up a core i5 Sandy Bridge, GTX 460, look for a motherboard that supports 1155 CPU Pin design (because that's compatible with the core i5 Sandy Bridge), pick up a Western Digital 1TB Drive, 4-8 GB of DDR3 RAM (look for the dual channel kits). The Antec 900 would be a nice case, but also check out XCLIO Full ATX cases. You should look up all of these items on newegg.

What is the best desktop computer for under $1000?
Q. I am planning on buying a desktop computer but I am really confused on which one to pick. My main use will be basic stuff like surfing the web, watching videos, powerpoint, but I also want it to have the power to run some highly demanding games to some extent. Any suggestions are helpful. Thanks!

A. contact me if you want some one choose the best for you. . check my profile, i helped many like you
send me your max budget, games you will be playing and if you would like other parts like mouse, keyboard windows OS . .

What the cheapest gaming computer u bought already built in 2011/2012?

Q.

A. As you're probably noticing anything specifically labeled as a gaming computer tends to have a ridiculous price tag attached to it. Systems like Dell's Alienware are often going to be double what a traditional computer costs. The cheapest gaming computer I bought already built is one where I picked a very cheap model and had the hardware hand selected to meet my needs. Nearly all companies give you the option to select a computer and upgrade the processor etc. Always remember that a fancy case does not make a great gaming computer. In fact much of the time people are really paying for more of the case and the name than the actual hardware. This is why building a computer or selecting the parts and having one constructed for you is quite a bit less expensive.

Your next best option if you don't want to spend the time consulting someone on what specs are the best to have is to just shop for one of the new Ultrabooks. This is a new genre of computers that Intel hatched that are portable but meet a very strict set of specs which are much more performance based. Computers like the Macbook Air fall in this category which can handle gaming online very well but still are priced at around a grand or less.

The final option you may want to consider is a refurbished computer. Many start to cringe when they hear the word refurbished but the thing is that nearly every major manufacturer now offers the same warranty as a new computer. The discounts can be pretty substantial and with a solid 1 to 3 year warranty you can't go wrong. Just ideally stick with one of the main outlets and not a fly by night company that isn't affiliated with the manufacturer. They generally don't have the latest testing and certification equipment as well as don't have the best warranties.

Q. I am going to build a computer and need help. I know what all u need like the motherboards cases cpu power supply and stuff like that. I need to know which to get. As for the use of the computer I will be using it for gaming and regular home use.
