Difference between Digital Copy and PC disk?

Q. I want to buy a computer game.. (World of warcraft) and they have a digital copy available to purchase online. Is that better or worse than going to the store and actually buying the game disk? Are there any differences between them?

A. Well if you don't have any problem downloading the whole game, which would be around 15~20 GB. You really need a good internet connection to download the Original World of Warcraft, The Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, and Cataclysm.

Price will be the same!

What should I be looking for in a gaming computer?
Q. I am trying to find a relatively inexpensive laptop that I can use for playing computer games, mostly World of Warcraft, and I am wondering what I should be looking for in a computer like how much RAM, what kind of video card, what kind of processor, how much total hard drive space, etc. that will make me not lag a lot. I know that laptops aren't as good as desktops but I specifically want a laptop so I can take it places.

A. You need at least 512 MB Video RAM and 512 MB Graphics Memory if possible (although some GPUs do not have them, they are memory intensive, thus you'd need more RAM than Graphics Memory, but its best to have 512 MB of the RAM you already have and lock the CPU out of it to reserve it for the GPU or they'll be fighting over it, possibly causing a crash). The Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) plays a big role and today its the clash of the two GPU titans Nvidia and ATI at the moment, so its best to choose from their biggest models and is best to get at least 512 memory off the GPU and CPU together at least, but you'll need a good CPU as well, you can try intel and/or AMD cores as they are quite cool. I'd recommend a quad-core and for gaming a 64-bit motherboard processing path and CPU. I recommend a DirectX 10 enabled GPU as well. It's best to have at least 2GB to 4GB RAM on modern day PCs and a 2 GHZ to 4 GHZ processor, ideally the ultimate PC would have 12GB RAM and a 40 GHZ processor, though that may blow the fans and melt through the heat sink's alloy itself, so we'll wait until the better processors, too big for a laptop though.
I'd recommend a dual 320 GB drive but ideally a 240 GB drive, like I have on one of mine (although its processor is not ideal).
Quad cores work well with 64-bit processors, thanks to server core technology by Microsoft's Windows Server technology as well as IBM systems. Perfectly also, you would need a WiFi and possibly bluetooth link and for enhanced game community interaction a built in webcam and microphone. That bunch would cost you about $1000 to $5000.
Just in case you don't understand a few terms I have entered, starting with clock speed:
HZ - or sometimes hz or even Hz stands for Hertz (pronounced heights or hurts) refers to the speed of how fast the clock speed of the processor works at a one period speed. 1 periods a second.
KHZ - or sometimes Khz stands for Kilo Hertz (pronounced killer heights) refers to the speed of how fast the clock speed of the processor works at a Kilo speed. 1,000 periods a second.
MHZ - or sometimes Mhz stands for Mega Hertz (pronounced meg-a heights) refers to the speed of how fast the clock speed of the processor works at a Mega speed. 1,000,000 periods a second.
GHZ - or sometimes Ghz stands for Giga Hertz (pronounced gig-a heights) refers to the speed of how fast the clock speed of the processor works at a Giga speed, which is 1000 MHZ. 1,000,000,000,000 periods a second.
THZ - or sometimes Thz stands for Tera Hertz (pronounced ter-a heights) refers to the speed of how fast the clock speed of the processor works at a Tera speed, which is 1000 GHZ, a future use of larger processors. 1,000,000,000,000, 000,000,000,000 periods a second.
There are higher rates but these are most common in computers.
RAM is used to store currently running (executed) address codes and even full programs and their holding process.
The CPU is directly connected to the RAM to hosts the execution threads.
The GPU is directly connected to the motherboard but indirectly to the CPU and RAM, but some motherboards let it access the RAM seperate to the CPU for hardware acceleration.
CPU stands for Central Processing Unit.
GPU stands for Graphics Processing Unit.
RAM stands for Random Access Memory.
I hope you understand this, anymore questions you can e-mail me via my profile.
Thanks.

When will video games look like Pixar movies?
Q. Obviously Pixar-quality animation takes lots of rendering time on super high-end computers- but will a video game console ever be able to render something in real-time to look as good as a Pixar film? I just watched ratatouille and was thinking, man that would be awesome if a game looked that good. Wishful thinking?

A. At this point, computers can get pretty close to rendering the original Pixar film "Luxo Jr." in real time. One big difference is that the methods used for lighting and shading in films (ray tracing) is very system intensive compared to what video games use today. Real-time ray tracing has been emerging in recent years. IBM set up a demo using three Playstation 3s with real time ray tracing that looked pretty good. So really it wouldn't be crazy if two generations from now, video games were close to Pixar movies.

However, as speed increases for real time rendering in video games, it also increases for movie rendering farms. Therefore, rendered films will always be able to be more complex than real time video games. Eventually, there will be a point, though, where the extra rendering does not add enough visual improvement to matter. I think that point is further out.

The other thing to consider is that rendered movies look great because of careful attention to detail for each scene and frame, the lighting, camera motion and textures. That same amount of work will have to be put into the video game. Video games today on the high end are maybe $30-40 million to produce, whereas Ratatouille had a budget of $150 million. That disparity would have to be addressed as well.

What should I look for in a cheap but semi good Gaming Computer?

Q. I am looking for a Gaming Computer to give my son for Christmas but I don't know what to look for. I am also on a small budget of $700-$800. If any one can tell me anything about what to look for in a Gaming Computer, that would help me out alot.

A. Gaming computer should be balanced, it needs good video card and processor, for example for your budget Intel i3 would be ideal, with video card like Nvidia GT 630 or ATI 6670 and up, RAM - even 4GB would be perfect for such budget, 8GB is preferable but not necessary. The rest - 500GB hard drive, DVD burner - are standard, any good looking case to say it's gaming PC, reliable power supply 400W+. Any computer from the store would not do, they are unbalanced non-gaming machines. Get real custom gaming computer like this one:

Is it possible to make any cpu into a gaming computer with the right components?
Q. My parents just got a imac and were planning on getting rid of their old e-machine about 3 or 4 years old. I decided id take it and try and build it into a mediocre gaming computer, do i have a chance here or should i just save up for a new cpu, i plan on slowly adding to it not spending like $700 and be done in a day or 2

A. First of all a CPU (Central processing Unit) is your computer's processor and you cannot make it into anything.
Also Macs where never built for gaming as most games are for PC only.
As far as upgrading an old eMachines desktop into a gaming computer, you will not be able to do much.
Most likely both the CPU (processor) and graphics are low end and would need replaced, which in turn would mean replacing the motherboard and even the RAM and power supply, so you are just building a new computer in an old eMachines case...

How can I play a game without the CD?

Q. How can I play a computer game without the CD? I find it so annoying to have the cd and I hate it.

A. Well if you get steam you can download games. Downside craps up your internet when downloading. Upside can get games cheaper then storebought (ex. walmart, bestbuy, ......)

What is the difference between a mac pc game and a regular pc game?
Q. i know that walmart offers games for macs and games for regular pcs. what's the difference

A. Well, Mac games work only on Macs(I hope you know what Macs are. they are the computers produced by Apple). The PC games work on PC Easy.
There are a lot of PC games as compared to Macs(ratio might be 20:1 if not more).

These games do not work on each other cause both the Macs and PC come with different OSes installed. Macs come with Leopard and PC comes with XP or Vista.
You can install an alternate OS in a Mac. So you can basically install Windows XP or Vista legally on a Mac and then play PC games on it but the same cannot be done on a PC(since Mac is copyrighted if you install it on Pc you are doing an illegal thing).

Usually Macs are for people who do graphical stuff and don't need deep gaming. The PC on the other hand is for people who like gaming.
The Leopard OS on the Mac is much much better compared to Vista (since it's faster and doesn't hang or get viruses!!!). Graphically Macs are a better experience but gaming wise a PC is better.

What is the best computer for video editing and playing games that under $700 I want a desktop! Thanks?

Q. Ok i want a computer for X-mas and i want it to edit video and play games, it has to be under $700 and it needs to have lots of space Thanks and ill pick a best answer.

A. Build your own, check out the AMD Phenom II X3 720 for about $120. It's a 2.8GHz tri-core processor that can easily be overclocked due to the unlocked multiplier.
Get 4GB of DDR3 RAM, you shouldn't really need any more than that.
Look for any motherboard really, you don't need anything fancy and can save some money here. Look at reliable brands like Asus, Gigabyte, ASRock, and anything with a really high user rating.
Get an HD4870 for about $150, it'll max out anything you could possibly want at 1680x1050 and run everything near-perfect at 1920x1080.
Finally, make sure to get a 550-600 watt power supply to run all this, preferably from somebody like Corsair or Antec to get the best quality/price deal (although OCZ is a good brand too, look for high ratings that aren't Rosewill or Sunbeam).
If you already have a monitor to hold you over for a while, wait for a bit on that to save money (critical here, otherwise your computer won't be as good).
If you're lucky, you'll also have a hard drive and an OS (check if it's retail or OEM, go to Control Panel-System and see if it says OEM under who it's registered to or if it has a bunch of numbers, OEM means you can't reuse it on a new motherboard).
If you have to get a new hard drive, go for 1TB, it'll last forever and give you the best bang for your buck.
If you need to get a new OS, it'll cost a bit more for the whole thing than $700, but it'll be worth it in the end (kick in some of your own money to help pay for it).

I have attached a Newegg.com wishlist (shop there) for a good build for you. It does not include an OS or a monitor. It's $630 before taxes and mail-in rebates, and $605 before taxes but after the rebates. If you want to upgrade due to the extra price room, simply change the processor to the AMD Phenom II X4 955 for an extra $45. When you eventually do buy a monitor, make sure it is 1920x1080 compatible, you can get them for $150 and they are about 22 inches.

How Do I Remove Scratches From a Computer Game?

Q. I pulled out an old computer game, and noticed there were a ton of scratches on the back. Is there any cheap way to take out those scratches?

A. It depends how deep seated the scratches are if they are just small scratches tooth past can work if they are deep scratches you will need to take it some where to get the scratches removed.
I pay $3 to get my discs cleaned at a local DVD hire shop and it works .

Can playing computer games really break your computer?
Q. Can playing computer games really break your computer? Or slow it down? or anything that is bad to your computer? I need a url so I can read it on my own, first one to do it get 10 points!

A. I'm afraid video games cannot do any damage to your computer, unless you look at it in an indirect fashion. Such as, you buy a game and install it, play it for a year, and over time, the video game's graphics requirements causes your graphics card to break in some way, or if you install a huge video game and your hard drive just doesn't have enough room left after installing it. That'd leave it sluggish.

The only way for a video game to do direct harm to your computer is if the game is pirated, meaning there is a chance a virus or some additional software has been attached to the video game, or if you just straight torrent it off of some site.

And yes, video games can slow down your computer, but only when you're playing them, and maybe shortly afterward.

I'd hate to say it, but no one is going to do a scientific study on whether or not video games can damage your computer, because they can't. You'd be better off searching for some research on whether or not video games cause brain damage than this. Sorry.

How do you upgrade your ram and video card for better performance on the PC do I have to go and buy stuff?

Q. I play the sims game and I want my computer game to be faster and it says to have a bigger RAM and a good video card or something and I dont know if this is something that needs to be installed or do i have to make changes within the computer to do so.

A. You would have to purchase new components to upgrade the RAM and video, although it really depends on what kind of computer you have now. Most desktop computers do have expansion slots to upgrade, but some don't. Some computer motherboards have integrated audio/video/network components that should be disabled if you're going to upgrade. The form factor of your board could also be an issue. Check with the manufacturer of your computer to see if this is an option or if you have a custom made computer, get in contact with whoever built it. Some parts houses will install your hardware for a fee, so if you're not familiar with hardware installation, I'd recommend you have someone do it for you. Also, check your SIMS game to see what the recommended computer hardware configuration is. If your computer is upgradeable, make sure whatever you buy matches that. Good luck.

What video card would you recommend for a reasonable price?
Q. I am planning on building a custom computer for gaming and audio production when I get some money. I currently have the Nvidia geforce gts 450 video card, it is alright but I want an upgrade. I am wondering what video card you would recommend. I'm not able to spend a thousand for a top of the line one or anything. Maybe 300-500 dollars max. I am wanting to be able to play games like Bioshock Infinite, Crysis, battlefield, etc. with full or near full graphics (Crysis might be pushing it a bit seeing how my current card can run most games from a few years ago on full settings and not Crysis 2 on lowest.) So to recap, $300-$500 video card that can play games on high-full settings. Thanks a lot for the help!

A. Best card on the market right now in the $300 dollar range is the HD 7950. At stock its pretty good, but once it over clocks is where it really shines. Can max every game out (Crysis 3 the only exception with slightly lowered MSAA), and runs very cool.

The 660ti for $275 or so will perform slightly better out of the box. But trust me, stick any of these two together and get a max stable over clock and the 7950 wins hands down. It competes with the GTX 670, and even the GTX 680 out of the box.

You won't possibly get better bang for your buck then the 7950. I would highly suggest ether Gigabye or Sapphire as the vendor. They have the best cooling solutions.

Also go to AMD's website to see if there are any retailers you can use to make use of the free games promotion when you buy 7900 series cards (Crysis 3 and BioShock are free).

A. i would suggest building you're own pc, you get the most for you're money!
but if you're not into that kind of thing, then go to a computer shop, as in a shop that sells computers only and get them to do a custom build for you and do a bit of research to make sure there not ripping you off, or just post the specs they said they could give you for the money on here, and say is this a good pc for the money. you would most likely get a quick reply to that sort of thing, good luck! :)

A Documentary against the connection between Video Games and Violence?

Q. I am doing a school report and I need a video documentary for my research. My topic is on Video Games and their connection to violence, my side being against the connection; as in I believe Video Games are not a cause for violence in teens. If you know of any video documentaries supporting my opinion please list them in your answers. Thank you.

A. Study: No Link Between Violent Video Games, Youth Aggression http://psychcentral.com/news/2010/12/15/study-no-link-between-violent-video-games-youth-aggression/21824.html ------ Do Video Games Make You Violent? An In-Depth Look At Everything We Know Today http://www.techspot.com/article/629-do-video-games-make-you-violent/ -------------- Games & Violence Download the 2012 Essential Facts About
Games and Violence
Facts, common sense and numerous studies all refute the claim that there is a link between computer and video games and violence. Blaming video games for violence in the real world is no more productive than blaming the news media for bringing violent crimes into our homes night after night. Numerous authorities have examined the scientific record and found that it does not establish any causal link between media content and real-life violence.
Credible real-world evidence demonstrates the fallacy of linking games and violence:
Violent crime, particularly among the young, has decreased dramatically since the early 1990s. During the same period of time, video games have steadily increased in popularity and use, exactly the opposite of what one would expect if there were a causal link.
Numerous authorities, including the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Surgeon General, Federal Trade Commission and Federal Communications Commission have examined the scientific record and found that it does not establish any causal link between violent programming and violent behavior. The truth is, there is no scientific research that validates a link between computer and video games and violence, despite lots of overheated rhetoric from the industry's detractors. Instead, a host of respected researchers has concluded that there is no link between media violence and violent crime.
More............... http://www.theesa.com/facts/violence.asp -------------
The Case Against A Link
Chris Ferguson doesn't just think there's no proven link between violent video games and aggression: he thinks today's studies are totally bogus.
"There are over 100 studies at this point that in some way or another tap into video game violence and aggression," Ferguson said. "Most of them are horrible."
For one, the meta-analysis conducted by Bushman and crew suffered from publication bias, Ferguson said. Many studies that show null effects remain unpublished, as researchers tend to assume that in those studies, something must have gone wrong.
One of Ferguson's studies, for example, split university students into different randomized groups. Some played the graphic shooter Medal of Honor; others played the non-violent adventure game Myst III. "No link, either causal or correlational, was found between violent-video-game playing and aggressive or violent acts," he wrote.
Ferguson: "There are over 100 studies at this point that in some way or another tap into video game violence and aggression. Most of them are horrible."
Ferguson, who met last week with vice president Joe Biden and several leaders in the gaming industry to talk about violent video games, thinks there are three main flaws with today's research. The first: many of the studies look at college students, not children.

I experience derealization. How can I make it go away or deal with it without the overwhelming fear?
Q. I get very afraid of death and 2012 and life in general. I start thinking the craziest thing and sometimes get verryyy weirded out by normal body functions and natural things. I sometimes look at myself wrong in the mirror and get extremely freaked. How can I deal with this!!!!!! :(

A. In the year 999, many people believed that the coming of the millenium would be the end of the world. IT DIDN'T HAPPEN! Similarly, with 1999: IT DIDN'T HAPPEN! And Y2K and the computers crashing: IT DIDN'T HAPPEN! And when the planets lined up: IT DIDN'T HAPPEN! Now, it is 2012: IT WON'T HAPPEN!!!

Derealisation is addressed in section 46, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris Employ those techniques. Only use a small hand mirror to check appearance, so just a small part of the body may be seen at a time, yet anything wrong will still be immediately apparent; cover (taping over/painting) full length mirrors. It is important to regularly monitor, and deal with a negative internal monologue (self talk), or mental process, such as disturbing thoughts, images, impulses, or emotions, by the process of (a): recognising it, and (b): challenging it immediately.

Technique For Re-Programming Negative Thoughts: When you notice something negative, such as: "I'm never going to get over this!" or: "Why am I always so pathetic/useless/such a loser?" or even: "I can't do this/will never get over this!", even an image, emotion, or a memory; recognise that this is being generated from the negative part of your mind. Having identified and labelled it, visualise a large, red, flashing, "STOP!" sign, and/or possibly a stern faced person wagging an index finger at you in a negative manner, then say to yourself as forcefully as you can, even aloud in a big voice, if alone: "I know this tactic: GO AWAY FOR A WHILE !!!" You may want to use either: "ruse", "ploy", "game", or "trick", instead of "tactic". In the case of an image, visualise a large "STOP" sign, or your preferred version. Some people go so far as to keep a wide rubber band in their pocket, then put it around their wrist, when they catch themselves backsliding, stretch and release it, as a method of reprogramming their mind sooner, but I don't regard it as being strictly necessary.

Remember to remove it, afterwards, if you use this method. Try replacing a negative thought with a positive affirmation of your choice, like: "I am a unique individual, with my own set of skills, and good points", or "I may not be perfect, but I'm doing the best I can, right now". Imagine, as vividly as you possibly can, that your concerns, anxieties, worries, fears, your self-recriminations, all the agonizing "I'm-so-Stupids," and "I'm-too-fats"; every painful "I-can't-I-have-it" or "I-can't-do-it"are huge raging, hurtful bulls snorting and charging at you. You see them coming at you and you hold out your red matador's cape at arms length and simply let them charge right by. Every time they come at you, hold out your arm with the red cape and let them rage and snort and go right on past. Practice the progressive muscle relaxation, in section 11, at ezy build.

Set yourself a specific time period for worrying about anything, (say; around three quarters of an hour, possibly when you get home, or after your evening meal, but not too close to bedtime) after which, resolve firmly to refuse to even entertain the thought of worrying again on that day: realise and accept that to do otherwise would be counterproductive to your mental health, and enjoyment of life. You will have had your "worry time" for the day, and can just write down any more thoughts that come to mind, and say to yourself: "Well, I'll just have to worry about that tomorrow, won't I?".

I bought a Gaming Headset but I don't have red and white inputs?

Q. I bought the Turtle Beach Ear Force PX21 Gaming headset, not realizing that it has red and white cables. My PS3 is connected to my computer monitor with an HDMI cable, there are no red and white inputs. I don't know what to do, can someone please help me.

A. It should have come with an adapter for the 3.5mm jack.

What is a good headset for my computer, any recommendations?
Q. I'm looking for a headset that is around 25 dollar to maybe 59. I would also like one that is wireless or have a long cord. Also can game headsets work on a computer? I have a friend who is offering to sell me it for 40$.

A. Logitech makes awesome peripherals. Just search around their website and I am sure you will find something that fits your budget and your needs.

As far as I know, I don't think that gaming headsets for like an Xbox or a PS3 would be compatible with a computer.

What parts should i use to make a good gaming computer?

Q. I just would like some help picking out the components, ie. cases processors, ram, graphics cards, power supply, cooling components, disc drives, hard drives, and a video card with hdmi output, and a wireless card. Feel free to add anything...my budget is about 1500 dollars.

A. First of all don't even think about jumping into SLI or Crossfire without doing your research. A gaming machine designed just for gaming should be built around just that. Spend your cash on the graphics cards and work your budget for everything else around that. A fresh Nvidia GTX 295 or ATI Radeon HD 5870 is gonna cost you a little under 500$ still leaving a very healthy 1000$ budget for your other parts. Next order of business would be the power supply, a GTX 295 or ATI 5870 will draw stupidly huge amounts of electricity at full tilt so consider dropping at least 100$ on a quality 750watt+ power supply like a silencer quad or a Corsair TX series.

Next you want to consider your processor and motherboard, you do not need a Core i7 EE for gaming it just isn't necessary in fact you don't even need a quad which will likely chew your budget up like beef jerky, most games do not symmetrically thread across more than 2 cores so a 300$ processor isn't a necessity and the same goes for the board that you plug it into. I bought a Asus P5QL pro from tiger for less than 130$ and it is a incredibly feature rich board for the low cost mated with a Core 2 e7400 or e8400 will yield great results on the cheap. My last build I used a NZXT Apollo which can be had for less than 80$, it is easily the superior case to even my much bigger and more expensive full tower case.

RAM is a tough decision on your part. You can keep this fairly cheap by picking RAM that isn't rated for higher clocks than what it will run under normal circumstances by default will likely net you great savings however it will require to restrict RAM speeds and timings in any overclocking endeavor for an informed customer that is like a death sentence. A e7400 will overclock over 400Mhz with a stock cooler and still stay below 60C which is a pretty noteworthy performance boost, specially for free. Crucial and OCZ make a few kits that aren't insanely expensive and overclock quite nicely.

What kind of computer should i buy?
Q. I need a computer for editing hi definition video. What features should i look for?

Do i need a computer with the same features as if i was looking for a computer for gaming?

For example: How much ram do i need? What kind of graphic card? ( or video card) ?
What kind of processor?
My gadget is around 1500 dollars, but if i need to sacrifice and invest in a 2000 dollars computer: i will.
I just need a fast computer for video editing.

Please help !

A. If you're looking for cutting-edge, top of the line...
$2000 - Acer Aspire Predator
http://techbuyingguide.com/DesktopItem.aspx?id=MvXJN3sfFket2uXuhcPIxQ
Intel Core i7 2.8GHz, 12GB RAM, 1.5TB harddrive
Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 470 - rated "10" out of 10

If you aren't really wanting to spend up to $2000, but you still want a really fast computer that'll be equipped for video editing, I would suggest this one:
$1500 - Gateway FX6803-25
http://techbuyingguide.com/DesktopItem.aspx?id=5OEDK2UX3UW4nPDPPzUB4g
Intel Core i7 2.8GHz, 9GB RAM, 1.5TB harddrive
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 5850 -- rated "4" out of 10 (but still more than capable for video editing)

A. SC2 is highly addictive, Koreans end up forgetting to feed their young children and kill them because of their addiction. I myself am fairly hooked on gaming, but I try to control how much I do it in balance with work.

Think of this, what will you be doing, or hope to do in the next 30 years?
-- Certainly not sitting there playing SC2.

Find something you're interested in, a subject you enjoy, a hobby. You are still able to do really well at school.. If I could re-do my life I'd try my hardest at being a surgeon. Don't let some GAMES ruin your future, you won't be wanting it as much as life and wealth, trust me.

What is the best way to teach my 10 year old how to create a computer game?

Q. My 10 year old is a pretty good student so he can probably grasp concepts slightly beyond his age. And like most kids, he has been playing computer/video games for a while now. He likes Runescape and Star Wars Lego II. He recently has expressed interest in creating his own game. I'd like to encourage this without overwhelming him with too advanced of a programming language. Logo seems out of date. Not sure what else is out there. An example game he would like to put together is a computer chess or checkers game with graphics. I was thinking of "Samuel's Checkers" for the strategy part. No clue on the graphics/language.
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

A. Wow when I was 10 years old all I wanted to do was ride my bike and play games with my friends. Sounds like you've got a really smart kid.

What sorts of things do you allow your kids to keep in their bedrooms?
Q. TV? Computer? Video Games? Toys?

A. We have a play room downstairs and that is where the bigger TV and video game system. There is also the kid's desktop computer down there is as well as all the toys.

My older two who are 15 (twins) have a TV in their room and they each have their own mini laptops which they use for school work and surfing youtube etc...They mostly use them for school though to write papers etc... they also have a printer in their room. Other than that they have their beds, book shelves, desk and night stands. They keep their skateboards and helmets in their rooms as well.

My younger two (12 and 9) have a TV in their room, their beds, a shelf with some toys, mostly lego's, k'nex (things my youngest uses a lot) and a book shelf.

My kids rarely watch the TVs in their rooms. Only at night and weekends if there is something on they want to see and we are already watching something in the living room. Not just that but all my kids ever watch the history channel and discovery channel so I can't complain.

Honestly don't see the big deal. If a parent knows how to set limits and is involved with their kids then it shouldn't be a problem.

EDIT: Just wanted to add, I have a friend who says she will never let her son have a TV in his room and once told me she was surprised I allowed that. The funny thing is, her son sits on the couch in the living room and does nothing but watch TV from the time he gets home from school until he goes to bed. She even DVR's his shows for him so he doesn't have to watch commercials. So I guess she feels as long as he's a couch potatoe in the living room rather than his bedroom that makes it okay. Incidently, my kids rarely watch TV at all and they have one in their rooms! Like I said, it's parenting, not where the TV is.

What is the difference between computer graphics and game design and development?
Q. I am ver confused at the moment. I am trying to choose a major that would involve animation and 3d modeling and special effect, cgi stuff. What is the difference between computer graphics and game design development and also which one earns more money?. I am ver confused please help. Thanks

A. Computer graphics is the general field of generating and manipulating visual data on the computer. At a low level, you often need to understand the underlying hardware. At a high level, you would be using other applications to generate two and three dimensional images, both fixed and animated. It's versatile field and can include anything from pixar-like graphics to data visualization. It's possible from this field to branch into many areas.
Game desing programming is a specialty area. There are game engines to help develop games so the job more entails game strategies. Visual effects are a part of the design and development development process.
In both fields you can work at a software engineering level, an artistic level or design level. Each involves different skill sets.
With computer graphics you have a broader spectrum of choices than game programming. Where you got to school and how you do will have a big impact on your future employability. But you'll probably earn more money.

Why are American people priorities out of whack and not wanting to help this country?

Q. People are complaining about health care reform, People have lots of money and not wanting to help those that actually need it. We are in a bad time right now and people wants game systems, ipods, new computers, laptops and other new gadgets and a new home and a new care every two years. People we have some bad times on our hands all you want to do is complain about this health reform. I don't care about the taxes now and generations a few years from now. I want to help the cause and problem now so we don't have a problem in the future.

A. Many do, but have been lied to, both about the need for reform and the nature of what Obama has planned to make America better.

I am always amazed how many Americans seem not to be aware about the real healthcare issues relying instead on FOX and other sources to spread lies about the healthcare system of the USA and those abroad. I mean, if healthcare in nations with universal coverage is so bad, why do they keep it?
Obama wants to make insurance more available to all and change the system so that it gives the American people value for money [1]. He also wants change so that the insurance companies find it harder to get out of paying for treatment. The system he is proposing looks similar to that which works in Taiwan where private companies are involved in providing healthcare [2].
Obama campaigned on reforming the healthcare system. He said he wanted to make insurance more available and he was elected by the American people to do this [3].
FACT - the US has higher death rates for kids both for kids aged under one and those under five than western European countries with universal health coverage [4,5].
FACT – American insurance companies push up prices and work to stop paying out claims on those they cover [6].
FACT - the USA spends more on healthcare PER PERSON than any other nation on the planet [7].
That means that a dead American four year old would have had a better chance of life if they were born in any western nation with universal health coverage.
If you do not like the policies that Obama was elected to bring in, he can always be voted out of office in 2012. But if you disagree with the facts, please let me know. I am always willing to learn, but please provide proof. None of those who disagree with me have been able to do that so far.

How do I get the rest of the money for my car that insurance wont pay for?
Q. So I purchased a 2012 Dodge Avenger from Carmax and made the mistake of not getting Gap insurance. Two weeks later a girl ran a red light and totalled my brand new car. Her insurance is only going to pay 16,800 when i paid 19,400 with tax title and license. I dont think i should have to pay money out of pocket for someone elses mistake. What can I do?

A. You did not tell us what state you are in. State laws vary from state to state. You also did not specify if the other insurance company is paying 100% of the liability. Or do you live in a state with a comparative negligence law, and are they saying you are, for example, 10% at fault, which would limit your recovery to 90%?

You mentioned you had an offer from the other party's insurance. You did not mention if this was a net offer, or if they plan to add sales tax and license transfer fees. (In some states, this is mandatory.)

In some states, under the Unfair Claims Law (if they have such a law), you are entitled to full documentation as to how they arrived this this value. What are they basing this value on? I recommend that you immediately request this documentation showing their own market research. (More on this later.)

You may wish to go under your own collision coverage with your own insurance company, and see if they come up with a better offer. This will be subject to your deductible, but you will likely get that back after they recover from the at-fault party. (Also, there is no reduction for comparative fault in going under your own collision coverage.)

Why did you pay $19,400 for this car? Did you over pay? Or is there some reason for this? Did you roll in a prior debt into this car loan?

Do not rely on the listed "book price" when researching a car value. Rather, search the market in your area, and try to find the exact replacement vehicle, and document the selling price. Check with several dealers to get the best price you can. If this closely matches what you paid, then you have some good evidence to prove a higher value.

Also, it is important that you document what you paid for the car two weeks ago, if you have not already provided this to them. Send them a photocopy of your purchase agreement. Claim files are all about documentation, and their claim file must reflect a higher value, if such a value can be documented. Then, maybe, they can justify a higher offer.

Many insurance companies use a valuation service like CCC or ADP, and they can send you a fifty page report listing hundreds of vehicles similar to yours. The psychology of this voluminous report is that this documentation appears to be so overwhelming that most claimants just throw in the towel and realize they cannot win the documentation game. But if you are very analytical, and have extra time on your hands, you can carefully analyze this report, and you may find the vehicles they have "selected" to best represent your car are not really the best choices. I am convinced all of these evaluations are all slightly short, like maybe $500 or $1,000. This is by design, and their computer program knows just how to do this. Most claimants realize it doesn't pay to go to war over a mere $500. But if the insurance industry can shave off $500 from each total loss settlement, over the course of a year, for all accidents nationwide, this comes to over a billion dollars. (I'm waiting for "60-Minutes" or "20/20" to do an story on this kind of scam.)

You are in a tough spot. If you delay on accepting their offer, they will notify you that they will not pay further car rental, and they may say any vehicle storage fees after today are your responsibility, and this can sometimes be over $25 per day. So you have this time pressure. If you wanted to take them to court, you will need to figure out where to store your junked car (need to keep it for evidence). And you would probably need to pay for the initial towing to get the junked vehicle released, find a temporary replacement vehicle that you have to pay cash for now, and continue making your car loan payments. If you need to hire an attorney, you will need to pay his hourly rate, which is often $125 or more per hour. (A contingent fee arrangement does not work since you don't want the attorney taking one-third of your settlement.) To win in court, you may need to hire a qualified independent appraiser to assess the market value of your vehicle. So that's why you are in a tough spot. Thus, rather than taking them to court, try to negotiate the best value you can. Never accept their first offer. If they are really putting the screws to you, then you have the option of filing a written complaint with the Commissioner of Insurance.

Good luck.

What degree can I get before i get one for game design?

Q. I wanna go to school for game design but MyCAA does not offer it. They have web designer/graphic designer but nothing close to game designing. is there something i can do that will transfer as credits for game design?

A. Software Development (aka Computer Programming, Software Engineering, Game Development). As a last resort a Computer Science major if your school offers nothing closer to game development. You can't design software (especially games) for programmers to create if you don't know how software is created.

How should i get into gaming design and programming?
Q. I am currently a student at a vocational school working in construction. I would like to try to work in gaming design and programming on the side but am unsure about where to start. I cant draw on the computer very well and am more interested in designing the layout and sprite ai. Where can i start and are there any free programs i should use?

A. A good place to start is gamemaker. Its free to use for most of the features, and it's probably the most basic step in games. There are many tutorials on its website (www.yoyogames.com) that can teach you to get started. If you wanna try something more advanced, use Blitzbasic or visual basic 2010 express. Just look up tutorials online. Also, don't worry about drawing, that has very little to do with game design and programming.

What computer would be good for me?
Q. I'm looking for a computer to buy for my room. But I don't know what to get. My price range is about 200-500 pounds.I like listening to music and playing games and i want it WiFi enabled.I don't want something too expensive. Can you please help me.

A. Hey, a good computer for music and games with wifi will cost any where from 800-1000$ (400-600 pounds). Try to buy a refurbished or used one to cut the price. And buy a cheap external wireless widget to cut the price of built in costs.

What kind of gaming computer do I buy?

Q. I need a good computer that will play new games without lag. Also, I need it to be under $1500. Some suggestions for graphics cards would be appreciated too. I don't know much about computers, so I need some help :)

A. Go to Best Buy and buy an HP FX series for $1000.

Whats the best gaming computer from best buy?
Q. I want to get a good gaming computer from best buy but don't know which one to get.
I want it to be able to play Far cry 3, Simcity, World of Warcraft etc... Building one is out of the question because i have no idea how. My budget is under $1500 and i would like it to last at least a few years.
Thanks for any help
I have been looking at Newegg and i'm wondering whats a good gaming computer there?
First time buying a gaming computer, tried of playing xbox? Also would i be able to play it on my Samsung 1080 hd tv?

A. Id REALLY suggest learning how to build your own, but if you insist on getting a prebuilt

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227431
or
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883258025

(id suggest the 1st one)
since the first one has a quality asus P8z77 motherboard, and a quality 750W corsair PSU (2 things 99% of prebuilt computers lack on is cheap motherboard and psu)
It also has a good case, and the i5-3570k + gtx670 is a solid in gaming performance, and you will be maxing every game on the market at 1920x1080 resolution.
Also the 1st one, if you built it yourself, it will cost you about $1200. So $1400 for a quality computer already built for you, isnt "too" bad i guess, but it still a waste of $200.

EDIT:
well i linked probably the best 2 prebuilt pcs from newegg.
Yes you can play on a 1080P TV using HDMI.
If its an older tv, it may cut off some of the screen, but alot of the newer tvs account for overscan on pcs, and are able to fit the image correctly.

How Can I Improve Game Experience on my Laptop?

Q. Okay, I have an Asus Laptop and I want to get a couple of computer games on here.

Specs:
Runs on Windows 7
AMD E-350 Processor 1.60GHz
RAM: 4.00 (3.60 usable)
64-bit Operating System.

Keep in mind I am 15-year-old JUST getting into gaming, keep it simple please.
I have GameBooster.
I have Slender: The Eight Pages, but it's a little slow. Not horribly so, but it will randomly lag.

Games I would like to play:
Slender: The Arrival
SCP Containment Breach
And so on.
Is there any way I can play them fairly smoothly? Is there any way I could hook my computer up to my Xbox 360 to play games? I just want the game to move relatively quickly, I don't care so much about graphics.

Any solutions OTHER than buying a new computer are welcomed. I DO have an old desktop, but it is very, very old, I think it's at least 2005-2008ish. Is there anything I can do to make Ye Olde Dionsaur Computer work??

Much love,
Kat

A. It's a laptop... other that tweaking game settings individually, you're stuck with its game performance. All laptops have always been mediocre for gaming (compared self-built desktop PCs), although that's slowly changing, unfortunately.

The only things you might do (which won't improve gaming) is add more RAM (impossible on most utrabooks), replace hard drive with a SSD (sometimes it's labor intensive), and clean-up junk that runs at startup like IM's.

The free Slender uses the Unity 3D engine which wasn't designed for performance. Old PC: if it has 4GB and a Core2 Duo, Core2 Quad, it's usable, otherwise don't waste your money, especially old overpriced DDR2 RAM.

What are the most important specs in a computer for gaming.?
Q. I read an article written in 2003 that RAM and Video Card are the most important. Now that computer games are so much more advanced it would be awesome if someone could give me a ranking of component importance to help me decide what things to add to a new computer.

A. The thing that make
any pc for gaming is
graphics card.gaming
is 75% job of graphics card and 25% job of
a cpu then ram have
the priority.always
invest more on your
GPU than your CPU.4
gb of ram is plenty
for gaming this days.
more than 4 gb won't have impact on gaming as no games
utilies more than 4 gb
ram.

so your first priority
should be a better
graphics card.

How much would a good gaming computer cost me?

Q. I want a good gaming computer, now i dont know how to really put it, but basically i want to be able to run games like MW3 or Battlefield 3 without lag. I wanna be able to download games, and enjoy them without lag. What is the price range im looking at. And if you could provide me with good information, and links about the computer that would be amazing! Thank you guys!

A. Hmm, I can play BF3 without lag and I had to spend upwards of $2500 to get there. I built my computer though, so it's cheaper than a desktop would cost. If you're fine with it, I know a laptop that will run this for around $2100. Some people want a desktop, but if you're fine with it, an ASUS G75 notebook is a total powerhouse. It is the fastest gaming laptop ever made to this date. Here:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230409

It has a 256GB SSD boot drive so it will be extremely fast, it also has a 750GB 7200RPM storage drive for your downloads, music, documents, etc. It would do you well my friend!

A. low end is 600, mid is about 1000 and high end over 2000,
not including price of monitors and keyboards,
also depends on wether you will be building it yourself
