Video Lags on Computer to HD TV Setup?

Q. My video lags about 1/3 a second when playing games only. I use the TV as a monitor so, when I'm at my desktop it has no noticeable lag. It's not a High quality TV to my knowledge, but it does the job for now.

I'm using a HDMI cable.

A. Hey, that is a great question, thanks for coming to answers, I hope this information helps.
Most computers can connect to an external display for mirrored and extended desktops. While high-definition television sets cannot match the resolution that many dedicated computer monitors are capable of, an HDTV can be a convenient way to view movies and websites on a larger screen. HDTVs typically accept a variety of inputs, and once you've found the correct input to match your output capabilities, connecting the two is as easy as plugging the correct cable in.

This site has complete information http://www.geekwithlaptop.com/how-to-connect-laptop-to-tv

These sites have good information how to

Determine which video standard to use. VGA and HDMI are the two most common standards used to connect a computer and an HDTV, but not all computers support HDMI output, and some televisions will not accept VGA input at 1080p resolution. Check the technical specifications of your devices to make sure you're using the right cable.

Connect your video cable to the appropriate ports on your computer and HDTV.

Tune your HDTV to display either the VGA or HDMI input, depending on which standard you are using.

Change your display settings to match your desired setup. On a PC, you can accomplish this by right-clicking on your desktop and selecting "Properties." The right-most tab, "Settings," contains options for switching between the computer displays and, if your laptop's video card supports them, extended and mirrored desktop options...People First Yes Thats my motto at Yahoo Answers. yahoo games site freezes my computer?

Q. the second i log into yahoo games, the main page stops responding and freezes my computer. not game specific because i don't get that far. this is the only site that does this. any ideas?
Well, first of all thank you for all of your input. I have tried all those things. It's not a pop up issue. The very second I get to the games home page from the main yahoo pages it says not responding at the top of the page and it freezes. I am able to go in through yahoo messenger and play all the games now, just not through the main games home page. It does work on another computer, just not the one I usually use. It stopped working 2 days ago. Frustrating beyond belief!! I just don't understand what the issue is. At least I'm able to get in through yahoo messenger....

A. Lets start with this, games use java to run.
update java
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual...

Now do this;
Yahoo games open with a pop up. Turning them off like Yahoo mistakenly says doesn't work very well! Most toolbars like yahoo and Internet explorer have pop up blockers! When you try getting in lounge or room and it doesn't work. click on pop up blocker on yahoo tool bar. On the drop down list click on Always allow tab it will say recent pop ups blocked. high light Yahoo.com then click allow. On google blocker click on blocker and it will allow site.
. IE browser settings to allow pop ups Right click on Tools, internet options, privacy tab, cookie over ride. Type in www.Yahoo.com, allow then ok. If you see a blue gear with tools beside it, Click on it and a drop down list will have pop up blocker listed.Type in www.yahoo.com, click allow.
This is the proper way to use the pop up blocker. I have never had a problem or had to hold any keys down to get in.

Next to keep in in games longer;

The most common reason for your problem is an easy fix!
Yahoo games use virtual memory to play. Running low or out of virtual memory causes game to freeze. Increasing your virtual memory helps with the freezing/getting booted problem. You can increase your memory by going to start button, settings, control panel, system, advance tab, performance, advance tab, virtual memory, change it, make it 1200 kb or higher, In both boxes, click apply then ok .

Internet explorer works best with yahoo games. If you are trying to use Foxfire make sure Sun java is checked as default java as it will not work with msn virtual machine java
Go to tools, internet options, advance tab. Scroll down to Sun java check it and java scrolling and JIT.

If you get an error saying you need flashplayer go here and download flash #9

Why does my computer freeze every time I visit Yahoo Games "Pool"?
Q. Could I be getting a computer virus from the game site?
I thought all Yahoo company sites were safe. Are they?
It's a Gateway laptop and fairly new. I've only had it for two months. I don't think it's the computer, but then again I'm no expert.
It lets me play for a little while and then BAM I cant do anything?

A. Since you say, "It lets me play for a little while and then BAM I cant do anything?", and first you said that it freezes, and Yahoo! Games Pool 2 requires real-time information to be downloaded during the game, the most likely explanation to that freezing of your Yahoo! Games Pool 2 window is that the window is freezing because the window is waiting for more information to be downloaded. That information is required to be downloaded because that information is necessary for the game to have complete information about the real-time status of the game.

So the most probable explanation to the cause of that problem is that the real-time information is not being downloaded fast enough so that you don't have to wait. That is probably that way because there is a temporarily slow Internet connection between the Yahoo! Games computers and your computer, or because your Internet connection is always slow.

In other words, what you probably need is a faster Internet connection or, if your connection is already fast enough, you need to play the game at a time of the day when the connection is faster.

What is the bandwidth of your Internet connection anyway? You didn't specify that. It would be very useful to know that in order to know if that is really the problem.

If your Internet connection is not the cause, then another probable cause is that the Java applet that runs the Yahoo! Games Pool 2 game is processing the real-time information of the game at a slow speed.

One cause for that could be that there is not much free RAM (random-access memory) in your computer. Your computer needs lots of free RAM in order to process the game's information fast enough so the game doesn't freeze while you're playing. So one solution could be to free up RAM by closing all other computer programs that might be open. When you have too many computer programs running at the same time together with Yahoo! Games Pool 2, the game could freeze because of that. Do you have other programs open while you're playing the game? You didn't specify that either.

Now, another possible cause is that your computer itself doesn't have enough RAM. However, that is highly unlikely since you said that your computer is fairly new and that it is a Gateway notebook. On the Gateway Web site at http://gateway.com you can see that new Gateway notebooks usually have at least 512 megabytes of RAM, which is one half of a gigabyte. That is probably more than enough to run a simple Java game like Yahoo! Games Pool 2, provided you don't have other programs running simultaneously.

Please take a look at the following recommendations from Yahoo! Games Help.

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/games/general/system/games-29.html

Take a look especially at the four recommendations at the bottom of the page. The four recommendation are that you don't have other programs running, that you improve the Java applet's performance by closing other programs even if the Java applet is already running, that you don't maximize the game window, and that you turn the game's sound option off.

Is this gaming computer a good customisation?

Q. Hello everyone! I'm buying a new gaming PC soon and was just wondering if this PC is capable of running games like Civilisation 5, Battlefield Heroes, Empire Total War etc with maxed out graphics without loosing performance. Customisation:

CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition
Operating System: Microsoft® Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Motherboard: NEW! Asus M5A87
Memory: 8GB DDR3 1333mhz (2x 4GB)
Hard Drives: NEW! 1TB S-ATAIII 6.0Gb/s
Optical Drive: 22x DVD±RW DL S-ATA
Graphics card: NEW! NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB
Sound card: Onboard 7.1 Audio
Software: Norton Anti-Virus 2011
Case: Xigmatek Asgard
PSU: 500W Xigmatek

This would cost me £580 ($949) is this a good price? And if it isn't, any suggestions? Thanks guys!
My resolution that my new monitor will be is: 1920 x 1080

A. You could build that computer for $600. That price had better be for monitor and computer...

Would this computer run good games?
Q. Im considering buying this pc from a man on craigslist. (HP Pavilion Elite HPE-570f) http://compreviews.about.com/od/perfdesk/gr/HP-Pavilion-Elite-HPE-570f.htm

He also added another 8gb of ram to it to total 16.

I offered him $625. I want to know if this would run current games. Im looking to run Arma3 and Arma2 for DayZ. Would this run games like skyrim, at what settings you think?? Im new to PC specs in general. Tell me what you think of the deal. hes giving me a keyboard, mouse, and a 250$ samsung monitor also. THANKS!

A. My experienced hardware opinion;
HP=cheap power supply, cheap motherboard, cheap computer case, mediocre DRAM
That particular PC, a slightly outdated 6 core AMD power hungry processor, but only 4 cores are used in gaming up to now.
The RAM is 1333 instead of 1600, never has heat spreaders, is limited to 1333 by the old CPU memory controller. 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB RAM in gaming should all run about the same.
The graphics card is a $67 one as HD 6770 at mid-entry level of gaming.
HP throws in a $15 wireless card and people think that makes it a better system.
It has a large slow HDD and bluray.

Check PC World customer surveys over the last 3 years. HP made a recent recovery from years of poor reliability, but that is a used PC from the weak years of reliability.
Here is 2011 to go with that PC:
http://www.pcworld.com/article/244481/desktop_pc_reliability_and_satisfaction_dell_and_hp_home_pcs_get_poor_grades.html

The question is whether it is a monitor worth $250 now, or was $250 when purchased, and what are its specifications and age.

I would not put an HP above any other brand, so here is what you can get new instead of used near your price point.
$685 delivered:

Avatar Gaming FX77 No Screen Desktop PC AMD FX-Series FX-6100(3.3GHz) 8GB DDR3 1600 1TB 7200RPM SATA III HDD Capacity XFX brand AMD Radeon HD 7770 Windows 8 64-bit, 500W, 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Power Supply,

HP's favor:
The 1090T is better than FX-6100
The 16GB ram is more than 8GB
2TB is bigger than 1TB
Wireless card
TV Tuner card (not sure what it is for really)
Bluray combo drive.

Avatar's favor:
HD 7770 vs HD 6770
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/538?vs=536
HD 6770 is same performance as 5770
Better power supply
faster HDD
faster ram
nicer computer case with better cooling
new vs used
1 year warranty and customer support vs no warranty or customer support.

There are other pc's in the price range.

http://www.game-debate.com/games/index.php?g_id=1855&game=ArmA%20III
ARMA III should play at high settings. It is not a graphics demanding game.

Cost to build a new pc from parts like the HP but a little better in each area
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/KcdS
$610 plus wireless card, sd card reader, mouse, keyboard
So built from parts is about $650 as new.
That is why I ask, what monitor details?
The pc value is 67% of new equivalent = $433
Should do Skyrim on high settings pushing ultra.
http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/monitor/#sort=a9
monitors.
This is a $250 monitor:

If that is like what you get new, it is a good deal.

Computers pre-built meant for gaming under 600$?

Q. I was planning on getting this: http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/LAN_III_Mini-I, but I don't know what things to add to it. Are there any computers under 600$ that can run Far Cry 3 decently? I asked a question earlier about that computer, but I don't know if it's the best one to get or not, and I have no idea what to add to it. I have absolutely no idea, at all, no idea, how to build a computer, but if you can give me a link to the most exact tutorial in the world, I might be able to. Like, really exact, I have no idea at all how to build a computer, it seems like a very confusing thing. I'd need a link to all parts and everything and a tutorial with putting it together. If anyone has a link to a pre-built under 600$, that would be better.

A. For this, you'd likely want to build your own. It's truly quite easy and there are THOUSANDS of online tutorials to do it. Pre-build computers are usually WAAAAY overpriced. Alienware computers include.

So please, consider looking into selecting parts and building one yourself. You can even talk to people online who know things about computers who can help you select parts AND build it.

Best gaming computer under 600 dollars?
Q. It needs to be able to run minecraft over 125 fps, have fast internet, good memory, play other games great too, it doesn't matter whether it is a laptop or a desktop just as long as it meets my requirements.

A. If you want a killer gaming pc then increase your budget a bit, around $1000 will buy you a nice gaming pc which can run almost any game available at decent fps.

Following is config i would suggest(I own this config pc and i know it runs everything so good)

Intel Core i5-3570K Quad-Core Processor 3.4 GHz 4 Core ($209.99)
Nvidia Geforce GTX 660, GDDR 5, 2 GB, PCI 3 ($200)
Corsair Vengeance 8GB (1x8GB) DDR3 1600 MHz ($66.98)
BenQ VA LED GW2255 21.5-Inch Screen LED-lit Monitor ($130.77)
Corsair Builder Series CX 600 Watt ATX/EPS 80 PLUS (CX600) ($66.24)
A compatible mother board and other things will cost around another 200$

And if you want to stick with 600$ budget then compromise on few things.
Intel Core i3-2120 Dual-Core Processor 3.3 GHz 3 MB Cache LGA 1155 ($122.37)
Nvidia Geforce GTX 650, GDDR 5, 1 GB, PCI 3 ($109.99$)
Corsair Vengeance 4GB (1x4GB) DDR3 1600 MHz ($ 38)
Corsair Builder Series CX 600 Watt ATX/EPS 80 PLUS (CX600) ($66.24)
BenQ GL2055 20-Inch LED-lit Monitor ($89.99)
A compatible mother board and other things will cost around another 200$

Note: All prices are from Amazon, so it is possible you might get some parts for lower price from your local retailer.

$900 Gaming Computer?
Q. Hey, i have a $950 budget for my gaming computer (that includes tax/shipping if its not from Microcenter since i live very close to one). I was wondering if any of you knew any pre-built gaming computers in that budget that were decent for gaming? (Play games like Battlefield 3, SWTOR, GTA V,Skyrim, etc) It does not have to be on high/ultra settings. I'd just like to play them on whatever settings with little to no lag and good fps.

I built what i think was a great computer for my budget at Cyberpower.com. It had the AMD 7770,8gb ram, a quad core processor and 800 watts. I don't know much about gaming computers but i always heard those are important for it, and it seemed good for the price since it said i could play quite a few games on Ultra and Battlefield 3 on high. The problem is however is that i have heard some pretty bad reviews from that site, and the ibuypower site also and it makes me worried to do business with them.

I should mention that building the computer myself is out of the question, however, Microcenter builds computers for $200, what would be a good build, includeing that fee, that would put me at $950?

Thanks :)

A. With $200 building cost, it takes too much out of the system.

A. Anything but the most demanding games. That GT540M is in the middle of the lowest level of chips.
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+GT+540M

Even in your resolution you'd struggle with games like Battlefield 3, Skyrim or maybe even Mass Effect 3 when wanting to play in highest possible settings.

Always check system recommendations (not "requirements" as they are always set too low to not discourage folks from buying games).

Gamedebate is one of the better sites for that kind of info.

If you buy a video card it would work as a gaming computer. (which would make you probably have to buy a new PSU)

Great gaming computer?

Q. I'm looking for a gaming computer that will run on full settings and will not be laggy. I mostly play Dayz and I want a computer that can handle that and a bunch of games easily. I don't know much about computers and I don't want to spend of 1200$
Thx

A. Yahoo answers will only allow up to 10 links, so I have to leave out the not so important components. Just copy paste in the search field on Newegg to find them, I will give the full name but no link for those.

BEST GAMING DESKTOP PC BUILD FOR THE MONEY (under $1,000.00USD for the tower only)
Monitor, keyboard and mouse can add from $175 to over $500, depending on size and model you want.
All prices are in $USD and in the USA, current as of December 2012 and they might be slightly different one way or the other by now.
Also, some shipping charges may apply to some of the items.
Add your state sales tax if you reside in NJ, CA or TN - that's where Newegg has warehouses.
Look for similar parts on Amazon, Tiger Direct, etc if you want to avoid paying Uncle Sam.

FACT: INTEL IS A MUCH BETTER PROCESSOR FOR GAMING THAN ANY AMD.

Is This Gaming Computer Good?
Q. Will this computer run games like Minecraft, Assassin's Creed III, Crysis 3 and TF2 on Mid-High settings smoothly?
CPU: Intel Core i5-3470 Quad Core (3.2GHz) 6MB cache
Mother Board: ASUS P8H61-MX
RAM: 8GB DDR3 1333MHz (2x4GB)
Graphics Card: 2GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660Ti
Hard Drive: 1TB SATA-III 6GB/s HDD 7200RPM 32MB Cache
Monitor: 21.5" HD LED monitor (1920 x 1080 pixels, response time 5 ms)
Also what framerate would I get for each game?

A. It is OK, but is flawed by the motherboard.
SATA II only, despite the SATA III HDD. 1333 MHz 2 stick max. USB 2.0 instead of 3.0. PCIe 2.0 knocks about 6% off your GPU performance.
The GTX 660 ti and i5-3470 are good choices if not for the old motherboard.
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphic-Cards.13849.0.html
Assassins Creed III should be high 30's FPS on ultra being drawn down from the 44 average by the motherboard.
Minecraft and TF2 will max out. Crysis 3 does not release until February 2013 and exact gaming level is not known but should be OK. C-3 should not be much higher than Crysis 2 requirements.
That should max out Crysis 3.

Although the motherboard is disappointing, the system as a whole should be acceptable.
Games that ultra will not work very well (below 30fps) are:
Hitman: Absolution (2012), Sleeping Dogs (2012), and, Metro 2033 may be a bit marginal without some tone-down in top settings. The Witcher 2 Assassins of Kings does not get Ubersampling, but that is reserved for top end SLI systems only.

What is the best gaming computer for $1200?

Q. I can go a little higher if necessary.

A. With that cash you can easily build a gaming PC that will last years without any issue. I recently built my friend a MONSTER for $740 in parts. The main piece of this is DON'T BUY AN ALIENWARE. They're not bad at all, actually they're pretty damn awesome, but you can easily put a gaming computer together that's just as good for a LOT cheaper. My recommendation is buying a Dell Inspiron 560 from dell.com, and get it with the cheapest specs there are, so that it's around $299. Then buy a good nVidia GeForce video card, as nVidia is usually the more widely supported GPU for video cards. (The one I used was an nVidia GeForce GTS 450 Free Performance Boost 1GB.) Then, buy RAM from Crucial.com, as they have AWESOME prices, and they ship for free! Just make sure that you check the slot size and front serial bus for the motherboard to make sure that you get the right kind. (I'm pretty sure that Crucial has a search via PC model though, so you should just be able to do that.) Finally, with all this stuff needing power, you'll need a bigger power supply to handle it. I recommend a Corsair power supply, they've never failed me, and at most you'll need about a 500 Watt, maybe even 450 Watt. I built my friend's with an Corsair GS800 (800 Watts) because I happened to get it on sale, and it helped add to the flashiness :P. You can get a cheaper one though. Just make sure it's enough. When in doubt, get a bigger power supply. (They all have the correct dimensions to fit in the Inspiron case, so no worries there.) And with that, I have finished my long-winded explanation. But like I said, in the end, that cost just a little over half of what you're putting out for a budget, so you can go even bigger if you please, such as a mind-blowingly amazing video card, or a gaming PC case with extra cooling and whatnot, or whatever you please.

looking for a great office/gaming chair?
Q. what is a good ergonomic office/gaming chair?

I am looking, but so much BS, what do you use and how do you like it, or what would you recommend.

A. I have found some good ergonomic chairs at http://www.bizchair.com/ergonomic-task-and-computer-office-chairs.html. I am not sure how a gaming chair relates to an office chair, though. I know they also offer gaming chairs, but that is totally different, at least from what I have seen. Either way, buying a chair online can be hard. Sadly, the more you spend for ergonomics, the more you usually get in return. I can vouch for All Seating and Dauphin chairs, as well as Neutral Posture, but sometimes some of the less expensive chairs also have great ergonomic value. Just stay away from new websites, and large chain office stores, as they often call any China chair an ergonomic chair. Mesh is nice as well.

yahoo games site freezes my computer?

Q. the second i log into yahoo games, the main page stops responding and freezes my computer. not game specific because i don't get that far. this is the only site that does this.

Now do this;
Yahoo games open with a pop up.

Next to keep in in games longer;

The four recommendation are that you don't have other programs running, that you improve the Java applet's performance by closing other programs even if the Java applet is already running, that you don't maximize the game window, and that you turn the game's sound option off.

are there any classes in high school that deal with game designing?

Q. I'm in high school but the question isn't for me,my little brother is interested in this field, but I'm not in to the computer stuff so i wouldn't know if there is a class relating to this stuff

A. at my school we have computer tech. and that's pretty much what they do. websites, games. i sometimes hang out in there to pass the time and watch what people do. i never thought it'd be that interesting, but some of it actually is. haha.

Computer game design career questions?
Q. I am looking into becoming a computer game designer. I have not done a lot of research but know a few things about it. Anyone who can answer any of my questions, its greatly appreciated.

1. Basically, what does a computer game designer do, is it adding colour and making games realistic?

2. Roughly, is much money made from been in this career?

3. Which operating system is used, i assume mac?

4. Will i need capable computer systems of my own to be able to work in this industry?

Thanks greatly in advance.

A. Design can be anything. I have a friend from grade school who designs the systems that play music during games. He wanted to *write* the music but, ended up designing the players. You may also be interested to know that he was valedictorian of my high school and a Yale Graduate.

Designers might work on the behind the scenes mechanics/rules of the game.

Money wise, he makes enough to live comfortably in California. I'm guessing $60K or more.

Mac? No. There are specific, and expensive, design systems specifically made for game design.

Your employer will provide you the hardware since most people couldn't afford it.

There is no shortage of college level game design schools. Google them and give them a call.

Gaming computer under $2000.00?

Q. As you can see by the title, I am looking for a good gaming desktop. The reason I'm looking for a new computer is for playing games at good settings. For example a game called minecraft, I am sure many of you have heard of that game, when I play on it I get 12 fps on fast graphics, tiny render distance, and smooth lighting off yet I get so much lag. I am also thinking about recording minecraft videos and I was wondering if there are any desktops available under $2000.00.
Thanks, Nathan
Albert could you tell me your specs please? Thanks

A. Clearly , your current computer is underpowered , but minecraft isn't really that graphics intensive of a game, so $2000 is quite high, unless you want a computer that will play every game out there on the highest settings for years. I just built a new rig for $600 that handles minecraft like a pro, so I imagine anything around $600 to $700 with a discrete video card should do the job.

Good gaming desktop under 600$?
Q. id like it to play at least skyrim on medium graphics and it dose not have to but it would be nice if it came with a monitor and i can only go up to 650 $
thank you c man is it easy to install the graphics card

A. Since a monitor costs about $100 that means you can only spend $550 on the tower. In that price range, your best option is upgrading a low-cost starting computer with a better graphics card.

Any off-the-shelf computers in that price range will NOT come with a decent graphics card, just low-end cards or integrated graphics. Keep in mind that 70% of your overall performance in games depends upon the graphics card, not the CPU. So the most important component for a gaming computer is a good graphics card (even for Skyrim, which is more CPU-intensive than most titles)

So you could start with this:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Gateway+-+Desktop+-+6GB+Memory+-+1TB+Hard+Drive/5424595.p;jsessionid=4196E41D0281C6EB05A1D0FA460FA037.bbolsp-app05-46?id=1218644421363&skuId=5424595&st=gateway%20desktop&cp=1&lp=1

Then add this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161403

And you'd be fine for playing on medium or high settings.

The Radeon HD 7750 is the best graphics card you can install in off-the-shelf towers from Dell, HP, Gateway etc. Any better card requires upgrading your computer's power supply first.

And in Skyrim, the HD 7750 even outperforms slightly more expensive models like the Radoen HD 6770 and GeForce GTX 550 Ti.

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/HD_7750/21.html
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/skyrim-performance-benchmark,3074-5.html

You could also build a computer from scratch, but that's probably slightly more expensive because Windows 7 alone costs $100.

What the cheapest gaming computer u bought already built in 2011/2012?

Q.

A. As you're probably noticing anything specifically labeled as a gaming computer tends to have a ridiculous price tag attached to it. Systems like Dell's Alienware are often going to be double what a traditional computer costs. The cheapest gaming computer I bought already built is one where I picked a very cheap model and had the hardware hand selected to meet my needs. Nearly all companies give you the option to select a computer and upgrade the processor etc. Always remember that a fancy case does not make a great gaming computer. In fact much of the time people are really paying for more of the case and the name than the actual hardware. This is why building a computer or selecting the parts and having one constructed for you is quite a bit less expensive.

Your next best option if you don't want to spend the time consulting someone on what specs are the best to have is to just shop for one of the new Ultrabooks. This is a new genre of computers that Intel hatched that are portable but meet a very strict set of specs which are much more performance based. Computers like the Macbook Air fall in this category which can handle gaming online very well but still are priced at around a grand or less.

The final option you may want to consider is a refurbished computer. Many start to cringe when they hear the word refurbished but the thing is that nearly every major manufacturer now offers the same warranty as a new computer. The discounts can be pretty substantial and with a solid 1 to 3 year warranty you can't go wrong. Just ideally stick with one of the main outlets and not a fly by night company that isn't affiliated with the manufacturer. They generally don't have the latest testing and certification equipment as well as don't have the best warranties.

What is the best gaming desktop computer?

Q. I really do not care for the looks, i just want a computer that is very fast with a really good graphics card dual core processor or anything better, dual graphics card would be great and fast cooling to stop the lags from when computer overheats.
I really don't want an ok computer, i am looking for the best one but there are so many out there claiming to be the best.

A. The best gaming desktop computer would be any computer capable of running the most demanding games on the highest settings on whatever monitor (or monitors) you're playing them on.

The best video card is the GTX 590, which is basically two cards in one. AMD/ATI has their own version of the double card, the 6990. Both are around $700 for a typical version, and there are factory overclocked versions that cost more. However, almost any game will run well on the highest settings on several monitors with a GeForce GTX 580 or a Radeon HD 6970.

Most games can run on the highest settings (with the right video card) on i5-2400 or Phenom II X4. Only a few games out there, and only on the absolute highest settings on several monitors, will benefit from anything more - the i7-2600k. There are processors that are even faster but that's pointless for gaming.

If you want the ultimate future-proof gaming desktop, it should have the following:

i7-2600k processor (this will be good enough for years)

SLI or CrossFire support in the motherboard.

A single video card at first, as powerful as you can afford. Then you can add a second identical card later when it becomes necessary. If you start out with a 590 or a 6990 you'll want quad SLI or CrossFire support from the motherboard to add that second card.

A power supply that can handle the computer even after the second card is added. It should also be really efficient because efficient power supplies produce less ambient heat and at really high wattage a "leak" of 20% or more can really impact your electric bill. Power supplies over 1000 watts NEED to be more than 80% efficient at peak loads or it will blow the fuse - normal power outlets max out at 1200 watts. If you're going for mega overkill you might need to have an electrician come do some wiring so you can get more power than 1200 watts.

2x4Gb of RAM, which is more than enough right now and leaves 2 open slots for the future.

Currently, the top chipset for gaming with the i7-2600k is Z68.

Make sure the case is roomy, 2 powerful video cards will make a lot of heat.

Gaming desktop computer?
Q. i want to know what i would need to build a gaming DESKTOP computer under $700. i am really new to this kind of stuff. i am a console gamer, but i find it too easy and want more of a challenge. i know somewhat of the things i would need. such as a video card, motherboard, RAM, etc. but i am not sure what will give me the best performance for the money i am using. i will be looking to upgrade it later on in the future with faster and better performing things. but i really dont know what some of the things are used for. for example, what is the motherboard for, and why that one and not another. and if they are campatible with the other parts of the computer. also i want all performance, not really for the looks. so cheap affordable case would be nice that would last me a decent amount of time. ive also been doing research but there are a lot of mixed reviews about everything, and to a new guy like me, all these letters and numbers are confusing, so some explaination to some of the meanings of things that the parts have, would be very helpful, or if i could get a website where they give a good explaination about everything. i have read a few but they mostly just say what the item is and how much , but they dont explain how this could be better than any other part of the same price range and performance. i also will be mostly playing games such as battlefield, cod, halo (if it comes to pc), minecraft, runescape, skyrim etc. thank you so much, i am asking for a lot, i might as well ask if someone could build it for me. thanks!
also, i would even get the alienware x51, but i have a strong feeling that is might mostly be a rip off and not worth the money at all, all looks and no performance, but knowing if its any good would be great!

A. I checked Ironside. No bargain there.

A gaming computer is:
Case, Motherboard, Keyboard, Mouse, Power supply, CPU, Graphics card, cooling fans, DRAM, Operating system, Optical drive, HDD[s], audio output (speakers or headset), monitor/display or TV.
Gaming is mostly in the Graphics card.
Most show here:
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_list.php
and the CPU is on the first tab.
Gaming summary, is matching the nearest benchmarked card to this:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphic-Cards.13849.0.html
$720 gets this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227422
$700 gets this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227408
AMD FX-8120 3.1GHz is a bit of a waste because it has more cores than gaming can use, but it is OK. If building your own, FX-4100 is good enough and then try to unlock and overclock.
HDD is 1TB SATA II - would prefer Sata III
Has a decent AMD Radeon HD 6850 1GB
is a cheaper motherboard with Fast (10/100) ethernet instead of gigabit, 6 channel audio instead of 8.
The HD 7750 of the one costing $20 more is a lower grade graphics card. 5 channel audio and gigabit ethernet. I would get the $700 one first.

The Alienware X51 is next to impossible to upgrade because the case is too small.
The $700 and tax
2nd Generation Intel® Core i3-2120 (3M Cache, 3.3 GHz) is no better than the newegg CPUs and probably a little lower in actual gaming. 1GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 545 is much lower than the HD 7750, and that is lower than the HD 6850. HDD is still SATA II they throw in a $25 wireless card. and use a $15 power supply 240W External Power
It is a P.O.S.
Not as good as a $530 one at Newegg.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229285
A HD 6670 approximates GT 545
FX-4100 approximates Intel i3-2120
The PSU is better, includes a keyboard + mouse, and just a smaller HDD. The Alienware is worth $575 not $700
The HD 6670 is probably not strong enough for you. See the chart of gaming. It is about a GT 555M equal. You can build your own, but the $700 Cyberpower is made with about $650 worth of parts.
On Build your own, use HD 6850 or HD 6870 or HD 7770 or GTX 560 ti
Use an FX-4100 or i3-2120 or so
Find a decent 650Watt power supply
You pretty much match the $700 system with tweaking the numbers.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1018125
This kit at about $600 or so, is missing Windows 7 and only has the 128GB SSD, but is about right overall.
This one also
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1018122
needs windows 7 and eventually a second HDD but is about right.

Best gaming/graphic design computer build for $1000 or less?

Q. Title says it all, I have a preference for quite a bit of ram, I would like to go with AMD just because its cheaper to build that way and I've heard easier overclocking. ATI GPU, Either 1 monitor with 1080p or two decent sized monitors, and 500gb - 1tb of harddrive space. =) you could go against these preferences if you can build a nice computer. I also wouldn't mind going with a laptop (for convenience since I just became a college student) with the laptop i5's are out just because I don't want a cpu with a build in GPU as it slows down the CPU. Thanks everyone
I've already pieced together a computer on newegg.com, i just want to see if someone not using my build as a started could give me some good ideas
the 2nd post has made me realize, maybe i need to ask you to post a SPECIFIC BUILD. Either give me a link or tell me the name of everything and keep in under $1000

A. Personally, I have never been into the whole OC thing. Okay okay so my last video card was a 9800GTX+ where the + means it was overclocked and worked from the manufacturer.

Anyway, looking at that last statement, you can see I prefer the Intel, nVidia combo instead of AMD/ATi. Again that is only personal preference. Some will argue you just HAVE to go Intel or HAVE to go AMD. Meh. Look at specs. Figure minimum 3.0GHz processor, 8GB RAM and 512MB vid card--of course 1GB is much better. But, your choice of video card is dependent upon gaming not graphic design. If you're only going to be making pictures and using programs that do that, you don't need a gaming card. Manipulating images is far easier for a card than rendering 3D objects that are found in games. In fact, if you're doing a lot of image manipulation and video editing, etc the Mac is better than any but the very expensive PC setups out there.

My personal system has a nice 24" HD monitor, but a family member's office systems are all 2 19" [square] monitor setups. Both have their advantages depending upon how you want to use them. If you're gaming at all I would stick with one nice large monitor instead of a dual setup. When doing the other stuff besides gaming you can just open up windows and throw them around where you need them.

I am lucky that I spend money on my computer like some guys spend money on their cars. I have a core i7, 16GB, nVidia GTX275 setup. [Of course a CD/DVD burner and some older 150GB SATA drives inside too... and a regualr mouse and keyboard.] There isn't a game out there that doesn't auto detect and go right to max settings on everything. I have considered going SLI, but I made a rather poor choice of mobo and the two PCIe slots are right next to each other. I have to get one where there's room in between them before I go that route. I just can't see how they stay cool with one sucking in the heat from the other.

Newegg is a good choice. They're usually cheaper than tigerdirect. However, tigerdirect usually does a better job of having items in stock.

what computer should i buy? i will mainly be using it for gaming and graphic design.?
Q. I dont want to spend over $2,000. I'm leaning toward the hp elite m9360 (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8894814&productCategoryId=abcat0501002&type=product&tab=2&id=1211587730389#productdetail)
I am also looking at the velocity micro promajix w/the 3.14ghz core 2 duo processor. The HP has 8gigs of RAM though and its in no need of upgrading so far w/a 9800gt card in it. What do u guys think? is the HP Elite a good deal?
o and i DO NOT want a Mac. They blow.

A. To build a gaming pc, you have to know how to balance your components for best performance. If budget is no concern, then you're lucky and the job is easy. For the rest of us, it is about knowing which parts of the computer are most stressed during gaming, and giving budget priority to those parts. The items to focus on, in order of importance, are:

1) Video card
2) Memory
3) CPU
http://www.pugetsystems.com/gaming.php

For Vista, look at the MS requirementsand double it at least and make sure it's certified. Triple if you can affordthen Vista should rock your socks. If you learn how to use it, Vista features and technology blows XP awaywhen it works. ;) You want it to last so get 64-bit Vista Home Premium or Ultimate. Its mega-fast with 64-bit apps as well as lets you upgrade > 4GB TOTAL RAM (system RAM + graphics card + other devices). 64-bit also requires MS approved (a.k.a. digitally signed) drivers so this might help with hardware compatibility, etc. This is MSs way of trying to get everyone to move on if they are able to.

But if you have old programs, they might not work (esp. with 64-bit version). Google Vista compatibility list. Knowing a bit about computers helps getting the old problematic ones to work (Internet has a lot of solutions that smart people share).

Ultimate is the best but if you dont think you need anything that fancy, Home Premium is good too. Get a good video card if you want Aero graphics (at least 256MB 128-bit in the newer cards) better if you can afford. Vista technology distributes more graphics processing to the video card and relieves the CPU for other things. Therefore, a good video card will make Vista work better.

Vista uses extra RAM to store commonly used files in a new activity known as disk caching. The computer uses artificial intelligence to determine which files will be used most and copies it to RAM (where it is much faster than accessing your hard disk). This includes components of the programs you use on a regular basis. When you need more RAM for programs you launch, etc. the computer purges the least likely used files from RAM to make room for the new program. Thats why if you look at the performance monitor, Vista always has near zero free RAM. So in theory, the more RAM (for disk cache) you have, the faster your computer will operate. This can also be augmented (to a lesser effect) with a flash drive/card with a technology called ReadyBoost. Just stick it in and select Speed up my system and leave it there.
http://www.anandtech.com/systems/showdoc.aspx?i=2917&p=6

Vista Home Premium and Ultimate has Windows Media Center, where with a TV card/USB adapter (if not integrated) of the type that fits your TV/Cable, acts similar to TiVo. You can play your videos, schedule recordings, etc. You can get a wireless keyboard / mouse or gyro-mouse and it will be sort of like remote control. If you do this, get a big Hard Disk.

MS Office productivity software works best on Windows. The Mac version is really nerfed and doesnt have new features like Office Ribbon interface, Mini Toolbars, and Live Preview.

Vista supports touch-screens and voice recognition if youre into note-taking and dictation. A good program to use with this is OneNote, which is included in some Office editions.

Unless you are an artist, most Universities (and programs) as well as the rest of the world use Windows. WinMacs are popular but for the price, Macs dont run Windows as well as other brands, but sometimes it doesn't really matter that much to most users. In addition some just want it for fashion and like them to match their iPods.

Here are some statistics to put it into perspective.
http://marketshare.hitslink.com/
Note that these internet traffic statistics actually miss a lot of Windows PC usage because many are used for work and do not surf the internet much (if at all). Thus the Windows PCs out there may be even MORE than the representation on the charts!

Macs are durable because many have an accelerometer in there that can "increase the chance" of saving your hard drive when you drop it. Like those used in airbags. The power cord is also magnetically attached so it reduces the chance that you yank it off the table.

OSXMacs can exclusively install Final Cut Pro (which is good for media work). Adobe Creative Suite is also good and available for Windows but works better on OSX. The Windows version actually looks like an OSX port. Many OSX users are artists historically. Emotion workers are generally not as good with computers as logic workers so OSX is good for them. Because OSX is less complicated and harder to mess up, a lot of computer newbies also use Macs and thats why you see a lot of Get a Mac! They are so awesome! without any technical explanation to back up that opinion. ;)

Mac Pros:
OSX stability
OSX is easy to use
Dual-bootable to Windows
More durable than many brands
Trendy

Mac Cons:
Not as much peripheral support
Not as much software support
Windows doesnt run as well
Expensive
Minority

Windows PC Pros:
More customizable
More choices
More styles
Cheap hardware
Vista has best gaming capability (Direct3D 10)

Windows PC Cons:
Less stable (unless you are an IT pro)
Many are relatively not as fashionable
Not as user-friendly
Some extra features in Windows requires advanced knowledge to use
The extra features require better hardware despite your use of them or not

Computer games?

Q. If all video games are developed in a computer, then why don't the developers just go right ahead and release them on the pc? It's already made on it, then how hard can it be to release it on the pc?

A. A lot of them DO. It's called 'downloadable games'. If you look up individual small developers you'll find that as soon as the game is done, you can download it and play it.

However, finishing a game and putting it on your website doesn't get you as many customers as putting it in a box and putting it in stores where people who don't already know the game exists might find it. And it takes time to get it there (and not everyone can get a retail deal)

Or do you mean, why are console games not immediately released on PC? Well, with older consoles at least, the television resolution was much worse than the computer monitor resolution, so the graphics have to be redone. Also the control schemes are different (most PCs don't have joysticks) and people playing PC games want to be able to save more often than console gamers. So the game has to be reworked some to make a good PC version. And not all companies bother making PC versions because there is so much piracy - they figure their work would be wasted because so many people steal.

Computer Game Lag!! (Slender)?
Q. Ok so my friend and I downloaded this game called "Slender" its a scary free downloadable game, that doesn't require internet connection or anything (No viruses). Now the problem is that we have to screen share too play together and i connect too her screen BUT the problem is whenever she tries too move around it lags really bad(even when she plays by herself with no screen sharing!) but mine works perfectly. So we decided to screen share using my screen & everything was going well until we got in the game, because on my screen it was working great no lag but on her screen she said it was still lagging even though she was screen sharing on MY SCREEN. I need to know how i can stop her screen from lagging PLEASE HELP! (ALSO REMEMBER THE GAME DOESN'T WORK EVEN WHEN SHE ISN'T SCREEN SHARING AND TRYING TO PLAY SOLO)

A. Her computer isn't powerful enough to run the game. It's as simple as that I'm afraid.

If it's a laptop, you're going to struggle. You can try lowering some graphics settings, as well as the resolution.

If it's a desktop, consider upgrading the graphics card primarily, and then look at improving your CPU and RAM if there's still no marked improvement (although your graphics card is by far and a way going to be the best single thing to upgrade).

Other than lowering the video/graphics settings within the game, as well as changing the in-game resolution, there isn't much more you can do, other than using a superior computer.

Sorry mate.

Hope this helps!

Computer languages?

Q. anyone know bluebird's illusion? no relevance really, its just that i can't really play that game coz my computer is english(i'm chinese, so i'd rather read it than read translations). i'm no wizz with technology, so can anyone tell me if i can download chinese language for computer off internet for free? thanx

ps for some reason, when i save the game(i figured out i could after much trial and error), its all good until i turn off the computer, then its gone! anyone know why and how to stop? i got the game from
http://www.freewebs.com/bluebirds-illusion/downloads.htm

thanx heaps

A. Usualy you get "language packs" for the particular game and not the computer in general.

Speculate on what programming languages might be like today if early computers were developed for Games etc.?
Q. Early computers were designed as electronic calculators to solve numerical problems. Speculate on what programming languages might be like today if these early machines were developed for a different purpose (e.g., word processing, robot control, game playing).

A. I reckon they'd be much the same.

A computer that plays games still needs all the functionality of a computer that computes the digits of Pi, or your annual taxes for instance. Therefore it would seem logical that the languages we would use to control a machine designed with games in mind would be much the same as the languages we use to control the machines we use in reality.

More than a difference in language itself, it's more a question of a difference in the evolution of different programming techniques. If computers were being used mostly for games, then it's possible that 3D graphics technology would have evolved faster than database technology or spreadsheet software for instance. Either way though, the basic instruction set required is identical.

Help build GAMING computer?

Q. Can someone recommend computer parts I could buy for GAMING? I have around $1,000 plus or minus a few hundred to spend on the rig. What are the best components that you could recommend that can handle most games on ultra settings? Links would be nice! Thanks :O

i.e. skyrim, starcraft 2, diablo 3, crysis, etc

A. Best gaming PC build for the money:

Buy all parts on newegg.com, they even have instructional videos on how to build a PC:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPIXAtNGGCw&feature=player_embedded
All prices are in $USD, from newegg.com, and current as of April 2012.

PROCESSOR: Best budget processor: Intel Core i3-2130 ($150) - best budget 4 threads, dual core processor.
Best value and performance processor: Intel Core i5-2500K quad core ($220)
Best in class, price accessible processor: Intel Core i7-2600K quad core ($320)
CPU COOLER: Get a good after market processor heat sink and 120mm fan. The stock Intel CPU cooler is crap.
Either a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO or Sunbeam Twister 120 - Cost $35 to $50
Or you can get a water cooler, like Corsair H60 or H80 ($70 or $105)
MOTHERBOARD: For any processor above, get a motherboard with socket LGA1155 and chipset Z68, at least this $120 GIGABYTE GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128495

A good, full HD 1080p (1920x1080), LED backlit 27inch monitor will cost you around $260 to over $300.
Any cheap USB mouse and keyboard for about $30 to $50, or spend more for expensive gaming style ones.

Good luck.

Late 90s early 2000s computer game? ?

Q. I remember playing this game on the computer a while back like 10+ years ago I think. All I remember is the game starts with you looking through a key hole and you witness a murder. The rest of the game you are trying to figure out who did it and you can type commands. I think the person killed is related to the playable character. Does this ring a bell to anyone, can anyone tell me the name of it? Thank you!

A. This question might be better asked in the Games & Recreation > Video & Online Games section of Yahoo! Answers. There are more gamers in that section and you'll have better luck. Good luck finding out what game it is.

Laptop Computer gamer?
Q. I'm getting a lap top for Christmas, but I have to choose which I want. I was reading some reviews for the one I want and one said "if your a computer gamer, look elsewhere." What exactly is a computer gamer?

A. an individual who likes to play computer games. There are casual gamers, gamers, and then there are the enthusiasts. If you're planning to play games, I recommend getting a PC.

Does this Gaming Computer look decent?
Q. How does this computer look? Its right in my budget, it can play the games i want to play and high-max-ultra settings. (Battlefield 3, CoD,SWTOR,Star Craft 2). I know its not a high-end gaming computer but do you think it will be good for the next few years? Able to play upcoming games and MMOS? Also does everything look compatible and good for future upgrades?

Ok so i made it into the 7770 (since the summer sale has a free upgrade from 7750). I added in basic pro wiring and took out the speakers/got the cheapest case. With shipping im about 30 dollars over my budget, i need to reduce it so i was wondering if i reduced the watts to 700 instead of 800 if it would harm my gaming chance at all? (the standard was 600 and that played all the games i want). I was also wondering if switching from 8gb memory to 4gb would hurt it alot. Or if switching to the 4 core processor over the 6 core. (Doing one of those things, no matter which, will put me in my budget)

A. Personally the 6 cores only really work with future proofing if this is only used for games, the gpu is a little weak but not a bad one the 7770+ is normally what people use but it will run everything fine and it's a good computer
