Whats the best gaming computer on the market....under $1500?

Q. Hey i'm looking to buy a gaming computer under $1500 to play games like call of duty 4 or Hellgate. Would ya'll say like alienware or somthing like that?

Thanks =]

A. That's a hard one. Obviously, you are going to need to pay heavily for a good graphics card and a nice amount of memory, which you will need to play games like Crysis and Call of Duty 4. I would recommend a computer from Velocity Micro (desktop, laptops are way too expensive for a gaming computer in your price range). They are pretty well priced and look great.

Alienware computers are popular, but overpriced-not saying you can't find one in your price range, but they are a rip-off. I love Falcon Northwest, but once again, they are overpriced. Dell, Gateway, and other "standard" companies may have good deals, but they won't give you great recommendations for gaming.

If you have some time on your hands, I would recommend building your own. You can buy parts from newegg or a nearby store with a BYOC center. Despite what people say, it is not hard or expensive to build your own, just time-consuming. Find a guide online or someone at the store to help you, since buying a computer without all of the parts you need would not help at all.

No matter what, spend more on the Graphics Card and Volatile Memory (RAM). Upgrade those before anything else. Any dual core CPU at or above 2.4ghz should be fine. Spend the least on the case-if you need a cheap computer, go with a cheep case. After all, better to have a crappy looking powerhouse then an awesome looking paperweight.

Can this computer run all games on the market?
Q. Can someone also leave me anymore computers in a link that can run all games thats not all that expensive? I just think it looks weird lol. Thanks everyone. :)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227425

A. Hello!

When trying to figure out if the desktop that you want to purchase will be able to run the game that you are wanting to play, first be sure to take a look at the "minimum" and the "recommended" system requirements that the game manufacturers publish with every game and then compare them with the system specifications.

The system that you listed there has a fairly fast processor, and 8 GB of RAM (temporary memory), a moderately large hard drive (500 GB) and a good video card. The only thing I would probably consider upgrading on the unit would be the power supply. The video card alone requires 350W of power. If you ever wanted to upgrade any of the hardware in the system you also may have to upgrade your power supply as well.

Don't be afraid to shop around a bit. Stop by a local store to take a look at what is available in your price range. Do ask experts for advice and take notes. Compare computers that you like. Look for a computer that has:

--> A high performance processor -look for a Quad Core or better Processor
--> At least 8 -10 GB of DDR3 RAM
--> A large HDD (500 GB is medium size these days)
--> 500-1000 W power supply
--> Independent Graphics Card
--> The ability to be upgraded / expanded easily

and don't forget about the "extras" that you might want such as a high performance gaming mouse, surge protector, backup battery, and a service / protection plan. Most computers come with a manufacturer warranty, but that coverage is for a limited time and does not cover everything.

No matter where you go to get your computer, you want to make sure that your computer is covered in case of a power surge, or problem that happens after the manufacturer warranty period expires, or a problem that is not covered by the manufacturer's warranty.

Happy Gaming!

Where to buy a gaming computer?

Q. I want to buy a Gaming PC but i don't know where to get it and i wont to know trusted places because some of them don't look professional. The reason i don't wont to build one is because i don't wont to mess it up and be out the money and still not have a PC. ( Not Alien ware because they are a little over priced)

A. A gaming computer is something you build, you don't just buy one from a store, really.
It is not at all hard to build a gaming PC, even a 13 year old kid can do it, and I've seen lots of them here that did just that.
Very detailed instructions are available if you Google on the subject, even Newegg.com has video tutorials on building a PC.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPIXAtNGGCw&feature=player_embedded
Buy all your parts from Newegg.com or Amazon.com, they are the cheapest

All branded computers sold in stores (Dell, HP, Lenovo, Sony, Acer, Asus and such) are not 100% fitted for gaming, as the manufacturers will always try to use the cheapest hardware they can find and sell for the highest profit possible.
Even if one such computer has a good processor and graphics card, it will most likely have a cheap motherboard, with an older model chipset. Also all branded computers are setup by the manufacturers not to allow for any overclocking, as it will mean a loss for them to fix or replace damaged hardware while in warranty.

Here is a complete list of components to buy for a very good to best gaming PC build:

All prices are in $USD, from newegg.com, and current as of April 2012.

PROCESSOR: Best budget processor: Intel Core i3-2130 ($150) - best budget 4 threads, dual core processor.
Best value and performance processor: Intel Core i5-2500K quad core ($220)
Best in class, price accessible processor: Intel Core i7-2600K quad core ($320)
CPU COOLER: Get a good after market processor heat sink and 120mm fan. The stock Intel CPU cooler is crap.
Either a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO or Sunbeam Twister 120 - Cost $35 to $50
Or you can get a water cooler, like Corsair H60 or H80 ($70 or $105)
MOTHERBOARD: For any processor above, get a motherboard with socket LGA1155 and chipset Z68, at least this $120 GIGABYTE GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128495
MEMORY (RAM): Both the processor and the motherboard feature fast dual channel memory, so only buy RAM in identical pairs, to enable dual channel memory operation.
Get an 8GB dual kit (two x 4GB) DDR3 1600 G.Skill Ripjaws X Series or Corsair Vengeance ($50)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231428 (8GB two x 4GB)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145345 (8GB two x 4GB)
GRAPHICS CARD: at least a GeForce GTX460 Fermi or AMD/ATI Radeon HD 6790 (or better), choose any with a 2200 score or higher from this benchmark list:
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html
The best graphics card would be GeForce GTX680 or GTX580
HARD DRIVE (HDD): 1TB Seagate Barracuda or Samsung Spinpoint SATA III (6.0Gb/s) 7200rpm, 64MB Cache hard drive ($115)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148840
PSU: A good power supply, 600 watts or bigger (depends on the graphics card you choose), 80 plus certified form Thermaltake, Enermax, Cooler Master, Antech, Corsair or OCZ.
PC CASE: Any PC Case (full or mid tower), with bottom mount for the power supply, either ATX or μATX (micro ATX) size.
I recommend either any of the Sentey Series (Sentey Extreme Division Arvina is what I got) or Cooler Master HAF ($60 to $150)
http://www.newegg.com/Store/Brand.aspx?Brand=13670&name=The-Sentey-at-Newegg&Tpk=Sentey
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&N=-1&isNodeId=1&Description=haf&x=0&y=0
OPTICAL DRIVE: any cheap $15 to $25 DVD multi writer drive
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OEM for your operating system ($100):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116986

Cost: From $800 on up to over $1500, depending on processor, graphics card, power supply and case you choose.

A good, full HD 1080p (1920x1080), LED backlit 27inch monitor will cost you around $260 to over $300.
Any cheap USB mouse and keyboard for about $30 to $50, or spend more for expensive gaming style ones.

Good luck.

The only other viable solution would be to custom order a gaming PC from places like AVADirect, iBuyPower, CyberPowerPC and such. They will build a gaming PC with almost all specs of your choice but you will pay considerably more as if you build that yourself.
DO NOT buy Alienware, they are Dell crap and also way overpriced.

What are the best computer flight-simulator games?

Q. I'm a big fan of GTA3 and a few computer games such as The Movies, and The Sims 2. Recently, I recalled myself wanting a flight simulator game a few years back. I'm not interrested in WW2 or war/combat games, but I wanted to know what are the best, most realistic flying games on the market today?

A. 1. "Microsoft Flight Simulator X"

Create your own routes, fly across the world, and make your own airplanes. The gameplay of "Microsoft Flight Simulator" can be extended through downloading plane skins and buying add-ons made by third party developers. With each new version, new aircraft and cities are added. This time around Microsoft does something a little different and added mission-based play. "Microsoft Flight Simulator X" comes in the standard and deluxe. Buy the deluxe version if you can afford it. It comes with more cities, airplanes, and airports.

Buy it at:
http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Flight-Simulator-Standard-DVD/dp/B000GCH62C/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/104-4379826-8980720?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1187702921&sr=8-2
--------------------------
2. "IL-2 Sturmovik"

"IL-2 Sturmovik" is a WWII combat flight simulator. If you are looking for a combat flight simulator, look no further. This game has awesome features. There is an excellent mission builder, multi-player features (up to 32 players in dogfight mode), and stunning graphics. The combat takes place in the air, and from the air to the ground. Anyone interested in war and/or flight will enjoy this one.

Buy it at:
http://www.amazon.com/UBI-Soft-68361-IL-2-Sturmovik/dp/B000N4JENW/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/104-4379826-8980720?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1187702956&sr=8-1
--------------------------
3. "X-Plane"

With "X-Plane" you can create your own planes or fly just about any type of plane. "X-Plane" has everything from gliders to space shuttles. That's right, you aren't limited to earth. Feel like a trip to Mars? It's possible with "X-Plane." "X-Plane" doesn't have the polish of "Microsoft Flight Simulator X" but offers more variety in terms of planes.

Buy it at:
http://www.amazon.com/Atari-26147-X-Plane-8-0-DVD-ROM/dp/B0002VRPC8/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/104-4379826-8980720?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1187702975&sr=8-2
--------------------------
4. "Lock On: Modern Air Combat"
You are the helm of 8 jets from America or Russian in combat action. "Lock On: Modern Air Combat comes with training and quick start missions. Single player missions not your thing? With "Lock On: Modern Air Combat" you can play up to 32 players via LAN or 6 through the Internet.

Buy it at:
http://www.amazon.com/Lock-On-Modern-Air-Combat/dp/B000066641/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/104-4379826-8980720?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1187703002&sr=8-2

what kind of career can you get from a computer game science degree from University of California Irvine?

Q. I've been interested in going to UCI and study computer game science, but I want to know if it will be worth it. I love to play video games and I think this degree, since it has a lot to do with video games, would be something I would love to do. However, I have doubts whether graduating with that degree will get me a good paying career. What kind of career can I get with this degree?

A. You can get a job in Programing computer games, Testing Computer Games, Designing computer Games Marketing Computer Games Advertising Computer Games and Drawing Computer Games. The pay is not as good as a Computer Engineering job for the jobs I mentioned above, but if you continue and get a PHD and possibly a Doctorate in Computer Games Science and a few other majors in different computer qualifications you could possibly get a job as a Computer Game Engineer and the would be a very well paid job because you wouldn't just be making computer games but you would also be making games for PlayStations consoles, Xbox, Wii, Nintendo and other Consoles as well as inventing games.

What classes should I take if I want to design computer games in the future?
Q. I want to design my own line of computer games in the future, but I'm not quite sure what classes are neccessary to do so. Thanks :)

A. Computer programming (not languages, although you'll need them later - plain old computer science), game theory (both mathematical theory and games themselves - a great game isn't just an idea, it's a well-developed concept), marketing, graphics design and, possibly, psychology. That's why great games are designed by teams - it's too much for one person.

What are the advantages of a console-based gaming system, compared to computer PC games ?

Q. The experience of being a gamer has changed radically. A new generation game console hits the market every 5 or 6 years, exploring realistic three-dimensional worlds in high resolution with surround sound. Latest are the next generation of consoles led by Xbox 360, Sony Playstation 3 and the Nintendo Wii.

How are they better than computer games?

A. They are alot cheaper than computers. You also dont have to worry if your system specs is good enough to play the games, all you have to do is see if it runs on which ever system and your good to go.

How much does it cost to create a computer game?
Q. With all these indie online/downloadable games out there I was just curious as to how much it would cost to produce one. Things that I would assume you would need are:

hardware and design software
programmers
creative team to actual come up with and design the game
marketing
office space
testers

Can anybody give me a ballpark estimate?

A. I know that there is a program called Unity 3D which has a free licence until you make more than a limit on that game.
Hardware can pretty much be any computer that can run the game. cost nothing if you have one.
Programmers if you have the time you could do this yourself/ with friends and cost nothing.
Creative team again you and friends nothing to cost
Marketing: Word of mouth is one of the fastest ways of spreading the news about something you and your friends can do that too. again nothing in cost
Office Space: not sure what it would be needed for but your house maybe? maybe just have an online contact email for the game.
Testers: You and your friends can always test the game nothing in cost

With the way I show it you can make a game for $0 :D Just time and effort on your part.
