Gaming Computer Configuration?

Q. Is the following spec sheet is a good, reasonable one for gaming?

Asus Maximus IV Extreme
Intel Core i7-2600 or i7-2600K
Geforce GTX 580 or ATI Radeon 6970
Corsair Dominator GT 8GB RAM
Seagate Barracuda XT 2TB @ 7200RPM (Sata II 6GB/s)
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Pro
Create Gigaworks G500 or Logitech Z906
Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced
Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 1000W

Is this a good config?

Please give me your opinions on building a gaming desktop that can play any game for next two years with maximum graphics settings with no lag and a FPS of 30 or higher

A. Geforce GTX 580 or ATI Radeon 6970 - what is the memory size of this video card.If it is 1gb higher then its good.Actually your specs are good,NO! very impressive. My PC only have 1Gb Geforce (can't remember the model) video card and 2Gb RAM but it gives me a satisfying gaming experience (No lags).Maybe you just need to take care of your unit.

computer games?
Q. ok...i have this old computer game...frm like 1995...and i wanted to install it..
but i cant..
is the game too old?

A. Its all about the operating system that the game was designed for. If you can't even install the game onto your computer, then there's nothing to be done...

If you can install it, but can't get it to run, try right-clicking on the game icon. From the pop-up, there should be an OS configuration option (sorry, don't remember the exact wording). Using this option, you should be able to change the OS that launches your game, mostly likely Windows 95/98.

Good luck!

A. As configured, it's a OK gaming computer.

It's got a great processor and nice expensive options (liquid cooling- why??) but for a gaming rig the single most important component is the GRAPHICS CARD!! And this system has a $100 GeForce 9800GT...

The 9800GT is a nice card, appropriate for a $700 system, but not a high-end Core i7 system. For a computer like this, you should have something at least twice as powerful, like a Radeon 5770 or GTX 260.

I don't know how much this company charges for their graphics card upgrade options but most are overpriced compared to buying the minimum graphics option and buying your own card online from NewEgg or Tiger Direct. Compare their upgrade prices against what it would cost to buy the card online.

And a finally- this configuration is wasting money bigtime on that processor. Having the 2.93Ghz Core i7-870 instead of a 2.8Ghz Core i7-860 isn't worth paying $300 more. That won't even get you a 10% speed increase. But put that $300 into a better graphics card like a Radeon 5850 instead.... SHAZAM!!!!

That computer configured with an i7-860 and Radeon 5850 completely blows away the original i7-870 and 9800GT configuration, over 2X faster in high-end games! Heck with the money you'd save you could even afford a Radeon 5870:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161301

For a rig like this, absolutely positively buy a top-notch power supply. I recommend a Seasonic or Corsair 650W. Don't save $40 on the psu only to have it blow out and fry your other expensive parts- a great psu is the best investment you can make in your system.

Game developers computer gear...?
Q. ok i was wondering what do the game developers like EA or Bioware use to graphics test the game at later stages of a game development? because i would like to buy that and then i will have no problems. i was thinking that this will be many steps above an expensive alienware pc for playing games. please also share with me your experience on which will be best with a budget of around 5 grand...

A. game testers will be generally using computers of insanely high system specs, because fixing any problem on spot require the game developing softwares that themselves require high specs.

all you need is to go further beyond a workstation pc. the configurations require high speed intel quad core processor, a mother board allowing high level of customization [more number of slots], a 700w+ power unit, 4gb+ ram [usually installed as a pair of identical 2gb+modules] , 750gb+ hard disk [samsung or hitachi, seagate is more popular], a super cooling cabinet and cooling accessories, a [pair of identical] 768mb+ graphics card [geforce is the favorite among users], an lcd monitor for optimum view [bigger size is the needed one, but can tire your eyes faster, if working in proximity], gamer's keyboard- mouse set, a good sound system with multi-channel speakers and woofer [even a good pair of headphones will do] and a strong backup, with a 1000 V A ups.

Why do i do this when I play computer games?

Q. When I am playing a computer game and I require both hands, I put my right wrist over my left wrist. So my right hand acts like my left and vice-versa. I'm right-handed and not very good with my left, but if I try to use my right as my right and left as left on the two-handed computer games, I get mixed up and mess up. Does anyone know why?

A. It's just what you're used to, that's all. Would take a while to get out of the habit.

Why did you start playing that way? Well, if you play FPS, with the mouse and WASD configuration, notice that the nature of hand skill required is different. Mouse motion has to be precise and co-ordinated from the wrist/elbow, whereas pressing four buttons in varying combination with fast changes is a different skill set entirely. You might be right handed, but your left hand might have better-trained proprioception.

computer games that require the cd question?
Q. is there a way to copy the contents of the cd onto the computer so i dont have to keep installing the cd? i havent looked into too much yet but my daughter just got a couple of computer games and they all require the cd every time she wants to play them, even though i "installed" it.
anything i should look for on the disk that i can copy or tips?
thanks!

A. yes, you can run the game without inserting the cd.
Here's how -

Download Power ISO -
http://www.brothersoft.com/poweriso-41825.html

Then, insert the disk,
Run Power ISO,
Now under the tools tab Click on "Make CD/DVD-ROM Image File"..
Now select the .iso format and also select the destination where it is going to be created.

Then, again go to Tools, Virtual Drive, Set Number of Drives to 1.

After that (When your .iso file is created), right click on it, Click on Power ISO, Add to image file.. And your done! (you can remove the disk)

This is hardly going to take more than 30min but its worth the time.

One important thing, to let this work everytime you start your PC,

In Power ISO, Go to Options>Configuration>Select the Virtual Drive Tab>Then tick mark Auto Start and auto mount...And you are done Finally!

The method is lengthy but that's the way you do it.
Hope this helps!
Happy gaming!

Would a gaming mouse improve aiming accuracy in computer games?

Q. like in planetside 2, my wireless mouse keeps over-aiming other people. I'm pretty new to computer games so is it just me or will a gaming mouse help me aim better?

A. The best thing to do before you get a gaming mouse (which I would anyway) is to go to you mouse configuration. Hopefully the mouse is at least 1600 DPI, that dictates how smooth the mouse moves. You also should turn up mouse sensitivity in the mouse settings, and lower in games.
Make sure mouse acceleration is off too, that could be the problem. If you get a gaming mouse get something with at least 5600 DPI.

What can I do about my kids addiction to internet gaming, but they need the internet to study.?
Q. I have two children, 12 and 14, and they both have their own laptops. With the way schools are heading, kids almost require internet access for studies. The problem is that my kids are playing games more than they're studying and their grades are suffering severely.

We can't ALWAYS be there to monitor what both of my kids are doing on the internet, and with our jobs, we can't drive them back and forth to a library so many times.

Since internet access is a requirement for scholarly studies, how can I block access to internet games and computer games without blocking the use of internet for study?

I don't want to completely deprive them of fun time, but limiting the amount of time or scheduling would be desireable.

Please know that my son is very computer savvy and can find ways around certain parental controls.

Is there a program that I can use that will start upon bootup so that my son can't mess with the configurations?

A. NetNanny was recently acquired by ContentWatch (designed for employers). It has session ghosting with remote administration and controls.

If your kid mucks around with it to cover their tracks, you'll know.

Or create admin and user accounts and disable the port range on your router and firewall for gaming. That would stop them.

What is the best configuration for my system?

Q. Hi, I plan on buying a new computer custom built and was wondering which do people think is the best configuration for my 64bit system. Here are my options....i7-920, 12 gigs ram, ATI 5870
i7-960, 6gigs ram , ATI 5870
or any other suggestions???

Note my computer will be used for multi-tasking and the ability to play any computer game that is thrown at it at the highest settings.

A. you can just get the i7-920, and 6gigs, with the 5870. 6 gigs is more than enough for now, and you can easily over clock a 920 to meet the 960. Save you some money to maybe in the future get a 5890 and crossfire it with the 5870. Get maybe a 800watt powersupply or higher. 600 watt if your just going to run one card. Get DDR3 Ram btw, and get a nice case to keep that 5870 cool i heard it doesn't use that much wattage as a 295gtx co-op but it does bring heat.
