Can I play a computer game if put on a 320 GB hard drive?

Q. I have a game that's already installed on my computer...and I have the CD. If I install the software onto my hard drive...will I need the CD?

The reason I ask is because I'd like to play the same game on a different computer...but I only have the one CD.

A. you said you already installed the game on your computer,so the game is already on your hard drive. You can play the game on a different computer ,you just have to install it again, this time on the computer you wanna play it,and yes you need the cd to play it,unless you make an image of it.

question concerning multiple hard drives on a gaming computer?
Q. i am in the middle of a gaming pc build and was debating whether to get a large hard drive or run 2 smaller ones. ive heard that if you install your os (vista) and other software on one and keep games and other media on the other one, it is actually faster than having just one large hard drive.

any help will be much appreciated

A. Well in my computer builds I usually have my games and OS installed on a smaller faster HDD usually like a WD Velociraptor but more recently I've moved over to a SSD then I'll have like a large 1TB HDD for my movies, music, other data.

When people use two smaller HDDs to achieve greater speed they're probably running it in Raid 0 format.

Can you play computer games off an external hard drive?

Q. Would it be possible for me to install a game onto an external hard drive, then just plug that into any computer and play it? If so, would there be any decrease in performance, or would it run just as fine as if it were on the computer's internal hard drive?

A. Yes, I have WoW and Crysis on flash drives which i plug into the campus computers in the library. Super fast response time and there t class internet :)

Can I install games onto my hard drive then play on different computers?
Q. Or can I only play the game (installed on my hard drive) on the computer I installed it with?

Thank you!
Oh if it makes a difference I was wondering if it would work with Tomb Raider Underworld (bought online) and sims 3 (with the cd)
GalinKinlin I'm talking bout installing EVERYTHING on my hard drive not the computer.

A. It depends on the game. Information for a game can be stored in 3 places:
1) The main folder itself. Games like this you would be able to bring around, and continue your saved games - usually where the main files are stored
2) In the "My Documents" folder, or in the APPDATA folder - usually saved files.
3) In the windows registry - usually the settings (like graphics quality, etc.)

Most games use a combination of all 3. Older games (without the strong copy protection found in newer games) are easier to work with, as they don't install special programs to catch people circumventing the cd protection. BUT! If you use a cd-crack (which is legal if you own the game of course), you can usually copy that into the main folder, and that could make the game portable.

By using a crack, I was able to put Halo on a flash drive ( I legally own halo), and play it on my friends computer.

Be aware though, that you might not be able to continue your saved games.

Does a private server online computer game take a lot of room on your hard drive?

Q. I have several online private server computer games (the same game --different servers) and only 3 gigibytes left on my hard drive. I have a new Vista 120 gigibytes, but no more room. I did remove 4 viruses, but the viruses were removed, so where is my disk space? Maybe the servers really take up a lot of room and Vista utilizes lots of memory to carry out the computer functions? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

A. hey there. Im pretty sure those server games you are talking about arent taking up that much space on your hard drive. how long have you had the computer? I dont know about vista, but try going to search or find all files or folders, then see if there is an option for size something like "what size is it" then look for specify size, then put in something like at least 50000 bytes. thats 50 megs. it should bring up all files on your computer that are that size or larger. use your judgement and delete the ones that look like they dont belong or that you never use.

hope this helps, good luck

Can you play computer games from an external hard drive?
Q. I'm plannig on getting an external hard drive for my computer games and am worried about my games not working from my external hard drive.

A. you can although depending on the interface they might load a lot slower. if its a usb 2 hard drive you will notice longer loading times, if you have any esata ports on your computer get hold of a esata hard drive as these run as fast as most internal hard drives.

How do I get my virtual game onto my external hard drive?

Q. Hey guys, (btw, i have a mac)
I bought Team Fortress 2 off of Steam (computer gaming shop and community) but I don't want the game to be on my internal hard drive because I want my Mac to run smoothly. I have a USB external hard drive and I want to have the game on that. Is this possible? How do I do it?

A. You can't run it any other way, the game only runs if steam is open, the files are saved locally in your steam folder.

How come computer hard drive crashes so easily ?
Q. I want to know why computer hard drives crashes easily ? Is it usually because of viruses?? or an hard ware problem? How can you prevent your hard drive from crashing ?

A. Many times I have stared at my computer thinking "How do I fix my pc because it keeps crashing?"
Unfortunately there is no simple answer! I used to think this problem was related to buying cheap computers but after buying various laptops and desktops at different price ranges there is one common theme, eventually they will all crash at some stage!
Friends will often think I am a pc expert and will call me asking "How do I fix my pc when it keeps crashing?" Well start by asking yourself these questions...
Have your children be on the pc? Kids are great at downloading spyware by mistake! They will also click on numerous pop up pages and will often change your settings!
Another possible reason your pc keeps crashing is that you have overloaded it! If your pc only has 64mb RAM memory and you install graphic, gaming and other software the chances are that your system will not be able to cope with your software! Most PC's now come with at least 512mb RAM so it is worth upgrading if your pc is not at this level.
However the most common reason that your pc keeps crashing is that it has a virus! Many trojan virus can cause your computer to reboot immediately once all programs have been launched, this can drive you mad and it is not fun as you are helpless!
Best option is to install anti virus software and make sure you only visit trusted websites. If all else fails it is time to reformat your hard drive and wipe your pc clean, this can take hours and you will probably need the data recovery disc that you should have got when you bought the pc.

Can I move a computer game to an external hard drive then to another computer?

Q. I have the Sims 3 with a bunch of expansion packs added on. I'm changing computers. Will I need to reload everything on my new computer, or can I transfer the game to an external hard drive, then transfer it to the new computer with everything intact?

A. As everything is loaded into different directories when you load the original programme you will need to start again. Your saved "games"should be in Windows/programmes/sims3 folder and should be saved to an external drive And replace the same folder when you reload the programme.

Can I run programs on my computer if they are stored on an external hard drive?
Q. Im considering buying an external hard drive. I was wondering if it is possible to run different programs off of the hard drive while it is plugged in.

If I had all of my music from iTunes stored on the hard drive would iTunes still work??

If I installed a computer game onto it would I be able to play it on my computer?

A. Due to issues about the libarys and registry, it can work but only for that computer you originally installed on and will not work when you use it on another computer.

PS: unless it is connected through e-sata the games may get a lot of lag due to the much lower transfer rates on the USB or firewire.

Can you play a computer game stored on a virtual hard drive?

Q. My computer only has 60 GB of HD space. Can you save, and play computer games from a virtual hard drive? And if so which one do you recommend? I would want it to have a free trial period, be around $5-$10/mo if possible after that, and have the free trial be able to store at least 20 GB. Thanks.
I tried egnyte, and when I tried to install an MMORPG to the virtual drive, the game installer said it it can't load it to that drive path.

A. Yes, but only if it:
1- is being played on your PC
2- if playing at a friends house it needs to be installed on the virtual/portable drive.
If, say, you were to copy the game shortcut onto the drive, you can therefore only play it from your computer.
Hope this helps!!

Is it possible to download a computer game to a portable hard drive without it being on your computer?
Q. I want to buy a computer game but it takes a lot of hard drive space so can i buy a portable hard drive to download it on without it taking up my computers hard drive
?

A. Yes, but....

Unless your computer and portable drive use the eSATA interface, the USB link will be much slower than the internal disk, possibly impacting the game. Not all games give you a choice of which folder to install to, but most do. You won't be able to take that portable drive to another computer and play games on it, if that was part of your thinking.

A better solution is to buy a bigger internal drive for your computer. That gives you maximum space and effectiveness. Add the second hard drive to the computer, run the new disk manufacturer's disk copy program and swap the drives or just use the new drive as extra space. (Most times this question comes up with the C: drive is already nearly full and needs to be expanded).

If you do go this route, make sure you get the right format drive (IDE or SATA) or you'll be very, very sorry when the new drive doesn't fit.

If there's no available room to add the drive internally, you can easily get an external USB enclosure for < $20
