Good gaming computer setup?

Q. I'm not an intense gamer but i would like a PC that can play games on max setting like Arkham City, Skyrim, Dota 2, or the Witcher 2. I'm probably going to do HP's customizing with their gaming pc's since I haven't built a computer before but i'm going to be putting in an SSD and probably switching parts when need be. Anyways specs are:

CPU:

3rd Generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770 quad-core processor [3.4GHz, 8MB Shared Cache]

Memory:

10GB DDR3-1333MHz SDRAM [3 DIMMs]

Storage:

2TB 7200 rpm SATA hard drive (Again i'm probably going to put in an SSD if i get this computer)

Graphics card:

2GB Nvidia GeForce GT630 [DVI, HDMI and VGA via adapter]

Networking:

Premium Wireless-N LAN card

Sound Card:

Beats Audio

Alltogether it costs around $1260. I'm not looking for something too pricey over 1500 but it'd be nice to play games smoothly on high. It also has a Blu-ray player and liquid cooling.
Thoughts?

A. That computer is a joke. The GT630 is a horrible, entry level card. No point in having an i7-3770 with a crappy graphics card.

You should just build your own. For $1250 ,you can build a computer that can handle any game at max settings. If you plan on switching out parts, you may as well just take the jump. If you can put something in the right slot and have access to a screwdriver, then you're capable of putting together one. Consider this build:

Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD2 128GB(SSD) - $120
MoBo: ASRock Z77 Pro4 $109.99
CPU: Intel i5 3570k $229.99
RAM: G.Skill Sniper 1600MHz 2x4GB $45.99
GPU: Gigabyte Windforce Radeon 7950 $339.99
HDD: Samsung Spinpoint 1TB $89.99
PSU: CORSAIR Enthusiast Series 650W 80 PLUS BRONZE - $89
Heatsink: Cooler Master TPC 812 $63.99
Case: Fractal Design Arc Midi $109.99
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium - $87
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Estimated total: $1287 (Less after rebates)
All of the parts are from Newegg, Win7 is off Amazon.

Optionally, I've left a prebuilt computer from Newegg which is better than the HP. The Radeon 7850 blows the GT630 out of the water. I've also left a link to Newegg's computer building 3 part series if you decide to do that.

Great Gaming Computer Setup?
Q. Iv been saving up, and think its about time i get a moderatly good computer. Im really into games like Half Life 2 and World or Warcraft. So im wondering if i should build my own or what kind of brand and model i should get. Also wondering if Macs are any good, iv never used 1 but wouldnt mind learning. If you think i should build my own it would be AWSOME if you could give me some ideas on what things i would need to make it run, I really have no idea what it would take.

idc how much it is just not to crazy expensive (like under 1500)

Thanks

A. Don't get a mac. Mac is horrible for gaming. Not only are most games not on the Mac, but ones that are happen to be more expensive.

If you want to build your own computer, here is a good setup.

$369

It would be about $1469 with the better motherboard, about 1380 or so with the other one. Then shipping will be like $40 or so. So you would be around $1509 and that would be an insanely good computer.

2gb of pc1200 Ram, Quad core, Geforce 640mb 8800 graphics card, with the more expensive motherboard you should get a sound card, which will be a about $100. So with the cheaper board it will be around $1500 with a sound card.

Great case for cooling, fast core, fast ram, powerful graphics card, nothing with a bad name, all have High Ratings. I even have a few of these things in the tower I have now. (I have AMD because at the time it was cheaper, now I wish I would've waited for the Quad core to come out.)

Hope this helps.

I would suggest this setup for a super good gaming computer. And later on it has room and support for another graphics card.

If you want, I can make one under $1000. It won't have the graphics power, and might not have the quad core. It may be around a 3.0ghz dual core to keep the cost down, if you want this, just say the word.

Computer gaming setup?
Q. Right now I'm hoping to spend 200$ or less to spend on a type of gamin computer. Maybe 300. I know it's not a lot but I'm kinda broke and I'm wanting to play fsx with my friend. I'd like to have the best quality speeds at that price and wondering what monitors might be good too(someone else is paying for those). Any help would be good. Thanks

A. I just got a new gaming computer last weekend, but it was a heck of a lot more than that. I can suggest a few things that will help. I bought the necessary parts and had a (very) knowledgeable friend build the computer from them. To buy the "whole" computer not only costs too much, you end up with software bundles and other junk pre-loaded on that you don't want/need.

The hard case for the CPU is going to be expensive, but you don't need to have high quality or even something that looks good, so you can cut some costs by getting a second hand cheap or even free case from a friend or at a flea market/garage sale. Or maybe see if you can use your old case. Same with keyboard and mouse, cut cost corners on those. You want to spend the bulk of the money on graphics card, RAM, motherboard, drivers. You will need an operating system as well, of course.

By buying the parts piece meal, we saved a bundle by shopping between New Egg and Amazon for the best prices (he also scoured other sites, but those two sites gave us the best bang for the buck and saved on shipping).

You don't have to go fancy on a monitor or speakers. You can always buy something better when you come across more money later on.

How do you set up real mah jong peices like the computer game?

Q. I bought a mah jong set for a friend..but got a little more then i expected. I got a REAL SET. I would like to know if there are guides out there to use these real peices and set up the cool setups found on computer games.

A. Most people don't realize that those computer games where you match the Mah-Jong tiles really have nothing to do with the *real* game of Mah-Jong. You should take the time to learn the actual game -- it's fascinating, and a lot of fun.

I don't know how you would go about setting up one of those puzzles using real tiles. I think it would take a lot of time, patience, and planning.

How to install a computer game to a netbook from a PC without using the game disc?
Q. I recently purchased The Sims 2 Double Deluxe computer game. I was wondering, is there is anyway, after you install it on the PC, to transfer that installed data on my netbook? My netbook does not have a disc slot and I want to play the game there. If there is any possible way to do so, without using the disc it would be great to know.
Thanks.
I was wondering how you would work the external drive, I have one but how would you transfer data onto it?

A. If the computers are on the same network you can install using the desktop's cd/dvd drive. Just share the cd/dvd drive on your desktop, put the the disk in, and use your netbook to navigate to the share. Run the setup and you will have it installed on your netbook.

How do I improve the graphics in my computer games without the games slowing down?
Q. I've recently been delving into a lot of computer games. The only problem is i have turn down the quality of the visuals quite a bit in order for the games to run smoothly. I was wondering if there was a way to improve my computer's visual capabilities.

A. It really depends on a few different things.

First off, there are two different types of video hardware - onboard (or integrated) video, or dedicated video (video card). Onboard video is limited - it's not really made for heavy gaming. Onboard video uses system memory, which is generally slower than memory chips on a dedicated card, and is usually limited by the system BIOS in how much memory can be made available. Dedicated video (i.e. a video card) generally has much more available memory, and a faster video CPU.

With either setup, one of the best improvements (and free) is to make sure you have the latest drivers from the manufacturer. Newer drivers can often make a huge difference. Sometimes, with Windows, the drivers in use may not actually be manufacturer drivers, but stock Windows drivers, which are horrible for any kind of gaming. If the PC uses integrated video, increasing the RAM allocated to the video system in the BIOS setup may help, at the cost of available memory to the PC.

The best part though - video cards are cheap performance upgrades. Even a cheap video card will be better (by far) than most integrated video chips. If there is already a dedicated card, upgrades are cheap and easy.

It depends on the age of the PC, but there are basically 3 different types of video card - PCI, AGP, or PCI Express. If the PC is within 7 years old (give or take), it's likely an AGP or PCI Express setup. Either way, the best (easiest) place to find a card is probably Newegg.com

Hope that helps,
Jason

So whenever I download a game i need to go through a setup.?
Q. But the problem is that whenever i click on it, it The folder it is in freezes up. If i place it in the desktop it freezes it up. If i try ending task it resets my explorer. This problem occurs whenever i click on a computer application or game setup.

A. Yes, for any game, you must install it, unless it's a standalone, which aren't as common. If your computer locks up, there's really nothing you can do about it except try on a different computer.
