gaming computer components?

Q. well. my laptop is compleatly F.U.B.A.R all my games slowly stopped working and now even diablo 1 doensn't work(and yes all my drivers and direct x are updated)
so its time to get a new computer. but i don't know what the best components are for running games that use the system recources required for .. i think 'gears of war' is one of the newest games. im currently looking at www.anandtech.com but i have no idea what is the best is.

i) whats the best video/sound card
ii) what type of RAM do i use (theres more than one apparently)
iii) what type of proccesor/motherboard do i use. i've heard centrino quad core's are bad for games but i don't know many other types.
iv) Cooling system. i've seen computers smoke and melt before from inadiquate cooling.

can't imagine it would matter what dvd or harddrive you use.

what have i missed?
unless theres a site that sells computers online specificaly for gaming. with the computers reguarly updated for todays game needs.

A. Building a gaming computer, or any computer for that matter, is a fun and enjoyable process... but it will cost you. As you probably already know, good computers are not cheap. I will try to tell you the right parts to build a computer that should keep the price under $1500.

1. Motherboard: Nvidia Nforce 680i SLI --- about $150
2. CPU (Central Processing Unit): Intel Q6600 Quad Core --- about $200
3. Graphics Card: Nvidia 8800 GTS 512 MB(Megabytes) --- about $240
4. Operating System: Windows XP Pro --- about $140
5. Power Supply: Apevia Iceberg 680 Watt --- about $120
6. Memory/RAM: Corsair Dual Channel TWINX 2048MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz --- about $35 to $60
7. Cooling: A fan should come with the CPU and some fans should come with the computer case.
8. Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 250GB Hard Drive --- about $60
9. CD ROM Drive: LITE-ON Black CD-ROM Drive --- about $14
10. DVD Drive: Sony NEC Optiarc Black DVD-ROM Drive --- about $16
11. Computer Case: This one is mainly up to you for personal taste reasons but I chose one that most people would like:
NZXT Apollo Black ATX Mid-Tower Case with Clear Side, Front USB, Firewire and Audio Ports --- about $70

TOTAL: $1050

That might sound pretty expensive but that computer will last you a very long time for computer games and other heavy applications (i.e. photoshop and video editing software).

Here are some websites that are centered around building computers:

Gaming Computers?
Q. what are the top three gaming computers.
i need to know b/c i looking to buy one price around 1500
ive found an alienware for under 1500 its a desktop not a laptop.
i dont want a laptop they need way to much.
also there is no computer for 10,000 b/c that is way to high to pay for something like a pc.
b/c you can get a car for that.and if youd pick a pc over a car your dumb.

A. I build high performance gaming computer for half of that price. If you'd like, we can talk more about this through email. I am always interested in building great PCs for people, and they look really cool too. My email is mjaso1@umbc.edu. I can send you a bunch of information if your interested. I run games like Half Life 2 at 250+ FPS, and COD4 at 60+ FPS.

Names Matt, just write "Custom Gaming Computer" as the subject of your email.

Hope to hear from ya!

Really good gaming computers for 1500?

Q. Im looking to buy a gaming computer because im tired of the consoles limits. Im gonna wait about 3 months before i do this though. I have a budget of 1500-1800 dollars. I dont know anything about building computers either, so im looking for a prebuilt one. What are some really good gaming computers for this much?

A. It is nice to see somebody FINALLY with a reasonably good budget! So many people want the latest greatest beast of a machine for $500! :O

My advice is go to IBuyPower and to CyberPower and build a system around an Intel i5 processor. Pick whichever company is best for you. The Intel i5 will run rings around whatever AMD has to offer. It is the BEST gaming processor.

Do you like water cooling, or are you scared of it? I am scared of it (it HAS to leak sometime! ::::::: quake :::::::). IBuyPower does not offer any air cooling except a stock fan and heatsink. CyberPower offers both water and air cooling solutions.

Play with their configureators to get prices. Then you will know about how much it will cost. When you are ready to buy, come back here and ask us to help pick out a system. We like doing that! :D With a nice, healthy budget of $1500 to $1800, you can get a perfect i5 system! :D You will have the ULTIMATE gaming computer for that price - the best i5 processor, and a top quality graphics card (AMD 7950, or 7850 or 7870). You will be very happy with your machine! :D

Whats the best gaming computer on the market....under $1500?
Q. Hey i'm looking to buy a gaming computer under $1500 to play games like call of duty 4 or Hellgate. Would ya'll say like alienware or somthing like that?

Thanks =]

A. That's a hard one. Obviously, you are going to need to pay heavily for a good graphics card and a nice amount of memory, which you will need to play games like Crysis and Call of Duty 4. I would recommend a computer from Velocity Micro (desktop, laptops are way too expensive for a gaming computer in your price range). They are pretty well priced and look great.

Alienware computers are popular, but overpriced-not saying you can't find one in your price range, but they are a rip-off. I love Falcon Northwest, but once again, they are overpriced. Dell, Gateway, and other "standard" companies may have good deals, but they won't give you great recommendations for gaming.

If you have some time on your hands, I would recommend building your own. You can buy parts from newegg or a nearby store with a BYOC center. Despite what people say, it is not hard or expensive to build your own, just time-consuming. Find a guide online or someone at the store to help you, since buying a computer without all of the parts you need would not help at all.

No matter what, spend more on the Graphics Card and Volatile Memory (RAM). Upgrade those before anything else. Any dual core CPU at or above 2.4ghz should be fine. Spend the least on the case-if you need a cheap computer, go with a cheep case. After all, better to have a crappy looking powerhouse then an awesome looking paperweight.

Should I sell my laptop to save for a gaming computer?

Q. I have a dell vostro v13 and I was planning on selling it to get a 1500 dollar gaming computer by Christmas. I would be able to sell it for 400 on ebay. I travel from my mom to my dads house every week so the laptop was useful but I really need a gaming desktop. My dad doesn't want me to sell it but I think I should. My mom doesn't care if I sell it.

A. Almost every answer here is not relevant to the question :-) If you really want to play games you surely need gaming desktop, and not max or alienware - buy custom built one. You can actually buy cheaper computer that $1500 one and still will be able to play all games on max, today the best price point is around $1000-1200. Get Intel i5 based one, with 4+GB RAM and good video card like at least GTX 460 and it will be a perfect one. Check link below:

What is the best custom gaming computer?
Q. i would like to know the best custom gaming computer i can buy with a budget of $1000-1500. I don't need a monitor. Yes i do want the best of what i can afford.

A. It would obviously be a custom one, built by yourself. You can't get a lower price than by doing it that way. For your budget, I'd recommend getting an AMD 7850, an i5 2500k (or, wait until the new LGA 2011 i5's come out, and get one around the same price, which is what I would recommend), 2x4GB of RAM, a 600-650W 80 Plus Bronze certified power supply, and the rest is pretty much just preference. Building a computer is very easy, and shouldn't take more than 3 hours doing it your first time. There's literally only about 7 parts and some cords, and they all snap together like Lego. This video series tells you pretty much everything you need to know about building one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPIXAtNGGCw

It doesn't tell you much about choosing the parts, though, so if you want extra help on that, feel free to message me on here.
Building it yourself will ensure that you get what you pay for. You can go ahead and buy low quality parts that might break in a few months and save a hundred bucks or less in the process, or you can spend a bit more for quality. Newegg.com usually has the best prices on parts, and has great customer support.

Edit: I forgot a couple things. I'd recommend a 64GB SSD. Specifically, this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148441
Install the operating system, and programs that you use very often on it. You'll notice an extremely large loading speed boost with an SSD. Also, if you have a measurable amount of money left over, you may want a larger (128GB; I recommend sticking with the M4 series) SSD, or a better graphics card, eg. the AMD 7950, 7970, or GTX 680.

What are the best specs for making a gaming computer?
Q. I need to make a gaming computer that can run crysis 2, bf3, and metro 2033 efficiently on a $1500 budget and I don't know what the best parts to choose.

A. CPU: either Intel Core i5-2500K or better yet Intel Core i7-2600K (emphasis on the "K").
Get a good CPU cooler, as the stock Intel cooler is crap. Get a either a Cooler Master or a Sunbeam Twister 120 CPU cooler.
Motherboard: Get any motherboard with the newer Z68 Chipset, LGA 1155 socket, with SATA III (3) - 6.0Gb/s. It is the best setup for Sandy Bridge processors. I got this Gigabyte for $125:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128495&Tpk=z68ma-d2h-b3
HDD: Get an SSD SATA III (3) - 6.0Gb/s for your OS, 64GB or bigger (128GB would be best, I got the 64GB as I use Linux and Mac OS X, not Windows)
Also get a 1TB or 2TB Seagate SATA III (3) - 6.0Gb/s 7200rpm 32MB or 64MB cache hard drive for file storage
Get 8GB (2 x 4GB) of DDR3 1600MHz RAM (G.Skill Ripjaws X Series are the best, Corsair are also good). You do not need 16GB RAM for gaming, it is overkill.
A 750 Watts or bigger double rail top quality power supply (Cooler Master, Antec, OCZ, Corsair)
A good graphics card, nVidia GeForce 560 Ti or at least GTX 460 Fermi or even Radeon HD 6870 or 6970.
Dylano suggested the nVidia GTX 580, it is better but also much more expensive at $480 vs. the $240 for the 560 Ti or $160 for the GTX 460 Fermi. You would get about the same results if you use a 560 Ti and spend more on the i7-2600K CPU.
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS
Good PC Case with plenty of space and air flow, at least 2 or 3 120 mm Fans (with blue LED for cool looks).

Good luck.

What is the best gaming computer on the market today?

Q. I'm looking for a great gaming computer, preferably under a grand. Plz note i have no idea what things cost.

A. The BEST gaming computer is the one that has the best hardware for the price. alienware will NEVER EVER be in that category....

You can build you own computer from like http://newegg.com that would stomp any alienware for 1/3 the cost. (i have actually built a close match, had to upgrade some areas, of the $4000 alienware for under $1500).

If you really dont want to build your own, go to http://ibuypower.com or http://cyberpowerpc.com and you can have custom gaming computers built. Its MUCH cheaper then alienware with MUCH more selection.

For that budget you could easily get something like:

core i5-2500 (i wouldnt get the K version unless you plan to overclock)
8gb of ram (you only need 4 really, but i guess 8 will make sure you never have to buy ram again until ddr3 is outdated lol)
1tb hdd 7200rpm 32/64mb cache
AMD 6850/6870/6950 are good choices for graphics cards.

that should easily fall under a $1000 or less budget. and you can easily play any games on max settings @ 1080P resolution.

What is a good (but relatively cheap) gaming computer?
Q. My parents won't buy me a new gaming computer because my old one got a deadly virus.

So, I wanted to find a computer below 1500 so I can chip in some money, and I don't know what computers are the best for gaming.

Thanks!

A. I would suggest you to go for the Dell Studio XPS 9100 Desktop. It will cost you around $1,500 USD based on how you configure it.

If you're going to build your own PC, then go for something like this...

Intel Core i7 930 / AMD Phenom II X6 1090T
nVidia GeForce GTX 470 / ATi Radeon HD 5870
4GB DDR3 RAM @ 1333 MHz or higher
