High value gaming computers?

Q. I'm looking for some high value gaming computers. Some thing that can play high end games like elder scrolls oblivion and battlefield two etc with high quality. You of course are going to be paying more for a gaming computer, but I'm not listing a budget since I recently found a computer meant for gaming with some items in it costing $900. This computer's specs were around the same as one costing $2500. So uh, not really listing any price ranges here. Looking for good quality but not something very high price range, any help with video cards and other compatibility would be appreciated

A. If you want the best deal for you money and are willing to spend a little time setting it up, building your own computer is nearly always your best bet. I spent about $700 on my current computer, a comparable computer through dell would've cost me $2300. Anyway I went through www.newegg.com but there are many other computer parts distributers.

I knew nothing about building a computer, and even less about the parts that make one up, but everything in newegg is made for first timers. Everything you need is there, with customer reviews and what parts are compatible with what, it is an excellent way to build a lighting fast machine for a fraction of the cost

Good value gaming computer?
Q. I want to get a gaming laptop, i prefer a bigger screen but doesn't matter too much. Doesn't need a disk drive, needs wireless. I want to be able to run crysis or at least mw2 on high or very high graphics, my budget is $1500 but prefer getting one under $1000 if possible. Also i want a 320 GB hard drive at least. Thank you.

A. I have a few that I would recommend and they have great price tags:

ASUS Republic of Gamers G51JX-A1 15.6-Inch Gaming Laptop (Blue)
*Intel Core i7-720QM Processor 1.6GHz with turbo boost up to 2.8GHz
*6GB DDR3 1066MHz DRAM, 2 slots, 8GB Max
*500GB Hard Drive (7200 RPM); Super Multi Optical Disk Drive; Wi-Fi 802.11bgn; Bluetooth
*15.6-Inch Full HD 1920x1080 LED LCD Display; 2.0MP Webcam; NVidia GTS 360M Graphics *Engine with 1GB GDDR5 dedicated VRAM
*Backlit Chiclet Keyboard; Free Gaming Backpack and Gaming Mouse

Gaming computer help?

Q. Is this gamiing computer good. http://www.walmart.com/ip/iBUYPOWER-Black-Gamer-Extreme-WA939SLC-Desktop-PC-with-Intel-Quad-Core-i7-3770-Processor-16GB-Memory-2TB-Hard-Drive-and-Windows-8-Operating-System/21907353#Specifications. Also how good is the graphics card, and Can i buy a better Nividia graphcs card and install it on it?

A. That's a terrible value for the money.

It's actually overkill in some areas- unfortunately, ones which don't boost gaming performance (Core i7 3770 processor and 16GB of RAM) and weak in critical areas like the graphics card and power supply.

The GTX 650 is an entry-level gaming card which can play easier games on max settings, but tougher games like BF3 and Far Cry 3 only on medium/high. You could replace it, but you'd also have to replace the factory power supply in order to support anything better.

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/Catalyst_12.11_Performance/5.html

These are much better gaming computers for the money, capable of playing tough games on high to ultra settings.

what are game assets?
Q. i need help with computer gaming

A. An asset is a thing that has value. So a game asset would be a thing that has value within a game. For instance, if in the game a character mined for gold, and as a result the gold became part of a character's inventory, that would be a game asset.

Game assets to not inherently have value in the "real world", but there are some multi-player role playing games where game assets have value in the real world, and are in fact exchanged outside of the game context for real money.

-Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 GHz processor $254.99
-OCZ ATI Crossfire 2GB (2 x 1GB) X2 (4GB All up) ($57.99 - $20.00=37.99 after mail-in rebate) $87.14

A. thats so good i wish my rents would have let me do that instead we baught a lame 2 grand computer which gets destroyed by your system

Good gaming computer?
Q. Does anyone any good gaming computers in ireland, i really want to play arma 2 but my computer cant play it and i want a new one

A. The best value is building one or having a local shop build one for you.

Here's a nice pre-built system:
http://www.aria.co.uk/Systems/Gaming+Range/Cyclone/Gladiator+CYCLONE+Vortex+MKIV+Intel+3.50GHz+Gaming+PC+?productId=50324

However you have to add £72 for a copy of Windows 7 ot be pre-installed.

Or you can buy a custom gaming rig from Cyberpower PC. I recommend starting with this:
http://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/system/weekly_sales_II/

Then choose the following upgrades:
Graphics card - Radeon HD 7850 or 7870
Power supply- Corsair 650W (NOT Cooler Master)
Operating System - Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Arma II performance:

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2012/03/05/amd-radeon-hd-7850-2gb/3

If you just wanted to play on high settings instead of ultra, this would do fine:
http://www.aria.co.uk/Systems/Gaming+Range/Cyclone/Gladiator+CYCLONE+Decimator+MKIV+Intel+3.30GHz+Gaming+PC+?productId=50323

Of course you'd still need to add £72 for Windows.

What is the best processor, mother board, video card, and etc.for computer gaming desktop?

Q. Im planning to put a computer gaming shop business. Please give me advice on whats the most affordable but best set up of computer I can assemble.please be specific.im really not a tech person.

A. It is all very budget dependent. Here is a nice $1000 part set if putting it together yourself, and be sure to watch youtube videos and work on a non-static flat big surface and wear gloves or ground yourself and never force things together.
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/zWjz
CPU Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz 4 cores, 4 threads since gaming does not use hyperthreading nor more than 4 cores.
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106-5.html
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler - a good value for overclocking the CPU. It is tall, but very efficient and priced well.
Asus P8Z77-V LK ATX LGA1155 Motherboard - supports overclocking, and has 2 slots of pciex16 to possibly add a second GPU in SLI at another time for crossfiring instead of replacing the graphics card as you would in a 1 slot system.
G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 The right amount for gaming in the right speed for the CPU and is a good brand 1.5V with heat spreader in CAS 9
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive - fairly reliable bulk storage in a good size of a terrabyte
Sandisk 64GB 2.5" Solid State Disk - to hold Windows and a few games for fast load and top performance. Can use half in partition for Intel RST/SRT HDD acceleration if preferred.
Video Card Galaxy GeForce GTX 660 2GB - Highly rated solid performer. I did not look up its status for SLI vs crossfire
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/660?vs=548
Cooler Master Storm Enforcer ATX Mid Tower Case - Nice looking case with good air flow and roomy. Starts with only 2 fans as adequate, but could add a top fan. There are many good choices of cases. Has USB 2 and 3 and audio ports.
Rosewill Green 630W 80 PLUS Certified ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply
Decent enough as a single rail (one +12V as preferred) with a 6 and 6+2 pcie connector set and since GTX 660 needs only one, should be enough for crossfire one day without changing it. 50A (600 watts) on 12V to power GPU, CPU, fans and disk drives. There are better and worse PSUs but this is surely at least adequate and more.
Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer - any DVDRW
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (OEM) (64-bit)
gamers prefer Win 7
Still need keyboard, mouse, audio output (speakers/headphones), and a display

What are the laws on Computer game resale in Ohio?
Q. I have a couple old video games for my PC, and I want to donate them to Goodwill. Will this be a wise Idea?
In Michigan, I tried to take them to a gamestop, but they said it was illegal in Michigan to resell used computer games. Im in Ohio now, is there the same law? Will Goodwill have any problems with the computer games if I donate them?

A. It is against Federal law to take back opened computer games, the issue is that people can download the game on the system and keep it, then return it for full value. That is why bigger name games are setting it up so you have to keep the CD in the drive. As to donating it to Goodwill it wouldn't hurt to ask them. I'm not sure how the law would work for them.

SPORE Computer Game: How to get the Jump and the Speed values from the API?
Q. Spore (by Electronig Arts, Maxis, Origin) is a computer game for various platforms. The creations players develop, are being hosted on a server system, so everyone can download them. They also created an API, that's a technology to retrieve creation data and use it on websites, or wherever, made by 3rd-parties.

I have such a website in development, and can retrieve most of the values which belong to user-made creatures. But I don't see any values for the attributes "Speed" and "Jump", therefore I am asking here for help.

Question 2: they also have two more attributes, called "Basegear" and "Status". I would like to know, what those are about, and their possible values and meanings. Thanks.

Sample of a retrieved XML about a user-made Spore creature:

Why are kids so preoccupied with computer games and texting more than wanting to do their home work?

Q. Why is it most of the time you have to yell at your kid to stop texting or playing these computer games, and if you block certain shows from them on the tv they always why,and tell my friends parents let them play as long as they want and watch what they want. Don't kids know that you as a parent always do things for their best interest. Tough sometimes being a single mom.

A. Because they don't realize that those things have no real value. So they rather do what's cool and what they see their friends doing. Most of the time the kids don't realize their parents only want what's in their best interest. It's fine for them to want to do things that are enjoyable.

But it's always important to remember work comes before play. And doing homework so you can get good grades so you can eventually get a good job is what's truly important. That's why it's so important for parents to be there to remind them this and give discipline.

Were can if find, and what is the best program to make computer games?
Q. Im planning to make a computer game but I would like to find the best program to make it with. It can be for flash games, or not. I would rilly value imput on this. Thank You.
Im mainly looking for stuff to help me make an MMORPG

A. If you want to get into the "game making business", I suggest you start out a bit slower. You're already jumping ahead of yourself!

If you're really looking to get into the gaming industry (i.e. you're not just looking for a cheap program that will throw together some bad textures and pre-fabs) there's a couple things you should know.

First off, 99% of major games are not made with easily accessible "computer game making software". Major games are built off of physics and graphics engines, which are either developed specifically for the game, or licensed from a company such as Havok. Often times a game will use a modified engine from a previous title. For example, the recent title Prey was developed using a modified DOOM 3 engine. There is no chance that you will be able to develop a major title, let alone an MMORPG with Flash technology.

To make a true game you'll need a graphics engine, and for a MMORPG there will be even more requirements. You'd need a network code for other users, in addition to a dedicated server to run you game on. The total cost is far beyond the reach of an ametuer.

Now, I'm not shooting you down here! If you're serious about design games, start out by modding existing titles such as DOOM 3 or Half-Life 2. It would be best for you to try and join a team of modders; together a group of dedicated enthusiasts can create really unique stuff! (Counter-Strike was a mod for the original Half-Life).

If you manage to pull together some good modding work, you can earn the recognition of major development studios, and then you're well on your way to making the next Halo or Sims.

If you really want to make games, modding is a good start (also stay in school, taking computer programing classes, ect). You'll find out pretty quite whether or not you have the patience in youn to make a career out of game making. Good luck!

What are some educational computer games for teenaged students?

Q. I remember playing numerous fun and educational computer games during my elementary school years. (Oregon Trail, Zoombinis Logical Journey, and Carmen Sandiego are just a few examples of many). Are there any computer games with educational value aimed toward high-schoolers?

A. Physicus and Chemicus (2 separate titles) are great! Just as the name sounds, they cover chemistry and physics. The style is very much like the game called MYST.

For the ones that like to create and are artsy. I highly recommend Paintshop Pro or The Gimp (free download) for 2-D designs. Gmax is a free download for making 3-D objects. These objects can be animated and can be imported into many video game level editors to become part of video game play.

Like to just play around with physics or invent things? Get Half Life 2 then download the free program called Gary's Mod. Gary's Mod uses the Half Life game engine but you get all kinds of controls and objects to play around with. Control gravity, friction, bouyancy, etc. and the world accomodates. Objects include several different posable people, working train, working dune buggy, pipes, wood, blocks, balloons that cane be combined to lift even heavy objects, etc. My kids have had a virtual blast by combining pipes, explosives, and objects to create cannons. Then they play around with the gravity to see what happens to the projectile path. My boys have spent many a free time hour with Gary's Mod.
