Speeding up computer for online gaming?

Q. Is there a way I can change settings on my computer to optomize it for online gaming or speed it up at all?

Im using Windows Vista if that matters...

A. 1.)get a program called gamebooster it optimizes and closes useless processes that run when you play games it also defrags yor ram and removes like 200mb for me takes like 5-20 seconds for it to be done.
2.)Update your drivers for your video card. if you use a nvidea card open the nvidea control panel and go to manage 3D settings and click the things (not the list boxes) it will give you a detailed description on each thing, if you want to use it at highest preformance and not highest qualty change the settings to this.
anisotropic filter: OFF
anti aliasing: NONE
con-formant texture damp: use hardware
Force minimaps: NONE
max pre-rendered frames: 8 (doesnt effect prefornce just the response rate good for shooters)
negatice laid bias:ALLOW
Texturing quality: HIGH PERFORMANCE
triple buffering: on
vertical sync: on

computer gamer?
Q. OK so what is the best way to reduce lag in all games (not online ones just normal games)
I have 884 RAM and a ATI Radeon xpress 1150 video card

A. There is really nothing you can do short of lowering the resolution and the quality settings of the game.

The issue is that you have a laptop, laptops are not made for gaming. They have integrated video and you cannot upgrade the video adapter.

So, by reducing quality and resolution, you will get higher framerates = less "lag".
