Is this a good laptop computer for everyday use and light gaming?

Q. I use my current laptop for everything: games, movies, music, school work, and I take it everywhere with me. Is this laptop (link below) good for everything and over all just a quality computer. It doesn't matter to me if it is Windows 7 because that can be upgraded easily.

computer build. light gaming.?
Q. i wanted to build a computer mainly just for school work and stuff but i would also like to be able to play some games such as download games like a.v.a. Or so. Would a dual core be able to run fine or would i have to go with something like a quad core. And for ram would 4 gb be enough?

A. Typical setup is now 8GB of RAM and a quad core of some sort. These are both cheap enough that they wouldn't break the bank and you should be able to play most mid-level games. Even a pre-built computer from Tiger Direct or Newegg would be good enough for your needs. You should be able to get one for $500.

Will this computer work for light gaming and internet surfing?

Q. I do light gaming (TF2 or Minecraft), and I surf the web a lot, I know it isn't much, but could this computer get it done?

A. Great for Internet surfing, but less than average for gaming. You might be able to do "light gaming" on it, but don't be too disappointed if it doesn't. After all, it doesn't have a video/graphics card. You get what you pay for. You aren't going to get a gaming computer for $400.

By 'light gaming' I mean that it can play all current games, but maybe not with all the high end settings.

A. It's good for light gaming provided you install a standalone video card to replace the integrated GeForce 9100, which is useless for games.

Off-the-shelf bargain computers usually don't have strong enough power supplies to handle midrange graphics cards, so the best you could install without replacing the psu would be a Radeon 4670.

If you upgrade the power supply, you could install gaming cards like the GeForce 9800GT, Radeon 4850/4870 and GTS 250/GTX 260.

Whichever graphics card you purchase, buy it online- Best Buy is way overpriced on those.

How to choose best components for building desktop computer?

Q. Hello. I have decided to build my own computer. I have been doing a lot of research but I am still unsure on a few things. I do know that I want to use an Intel processor and probably an Asus motherboard. Still not sure exactly what type of processor to go with (i3,i5,i7)? I will be using the computer for basic things such as browsing and email. My son is also into gaiming so it will be used for some light gaming as well. Eventually I would like to do video editing and maybe website building on it as well. With all these things in mind, what would be the best processor (i3,i5,i7), best motherboard, best video card, best power supply, best hardrive (ssd or mechanical and speed), what type of optical drvie (dvd or bluray), best case, and anything else I may need to know. Also what would be a good monitor too? I really appriciate any help. Thanks.

A. try looking at some specs of pc's at http://www.cnet.com and read the reviews. for gaming I would go with the Intel i5 with 2.4-3.5ghx speed mainly because it is good for most gaming. it will fit on the Asus motherboard. gtx670 graphics, definitely dvd not blue ray. check out this site for parts. http://www.newegg.com. good luck

How can i tell what harware my computer has in it and what I need to upgrade?
Q. I have a computer that a buddy of mine built for me about 5years ago. At the time it was pretty quick and handled almost everything I threw at it. The power supply just blew so I've been thinking about upgrading it. The thing is I no longer talk to that friend and I personally know very little about computers. What is considered a decent all around setup for some light gaming and college needs?

Thanks for the help.

A. well the computer are built by certain components:
Mother board + CPU + cpu fan
power supply
memory sticks
video card
hard drive
DVD or cd rom
and the tower.
what you should do is upgrade the memory, the video card for gaming. and if you want more space you will need a bigger hard drive, but beware that you will need to reinstalled xp or vista on that new hard drive. but for now just upgrade the memory and video card, and get a new power supply about a 500W one, because the better the video card the more power it will need.
hope this helps

Can you guys give me a computer part list under 800 dollars?

Q. Hello, I am thinking of building my own computer for perhaps, under 800 dollars. I will be using the computer for light gaming. Please include the case, fans, keyboard, and speaker in the part list, and make sure all the parts could be bought in stores like NCIX, CanadaComputers, and Tigerdirect. Thanks!
It would be best if it's your own computer. I want to be 100% sure the parts are compatiable. Sorry for the trouble!

What computer games right have the highest system requirements?
Q. What computer games right have the highest system requirements?

What is that system requirements?

What is the average and highest fps fo all computer games? (high and low system requirements games)

A. What you need:

-A dual core or quad core pentium or AMD (I like
AMD, but pentium is good too).
-2 gigs of DDR2 Ram
-Raided 10000 RPM hard drives. Size is up to you, but bigger is better for storage purposes. The RPM's are the important thing though, and RAID 0 bumps the speed to something fierce.
-NVidea 6800 ultra or better for a graphics card. A dual set up for card is nice, but not strictly necessary.
-450 watt power supply.
-Compatible motherboard (I like Asus better than Abit)
-A 1600-2400 Dpi mouse (noticeable difference there)
-A light-up keyboard so you can play in the dark.
-Soundblaster Audigy w/ speakers & subwoofer.
-Lian Li (or other) case
-Enough fans to keep that SOB cool

You'll be able to play FEAR, Oblivion, Crysis or Far Cry 2 at full optimization AND run a virus scan in the background. No joke man.

Have fun :)

Edit: And definitely go with a lower GHZ dual/quad core over a higher GHZ singlecore. The dual thread architecture is superior in every way, game manufacturers are starting to exploit that.

What desktop computer is recommended for light gaming and web surfing?

Q. I'm going to buy a new computer and would like to know if anyone can recommend a computer that has fast internet browsing and can handle light gaming such as Nexon games (Maplestory, Combat Arms), ijji (Soldier Front, other games), or maybe even Starcraft 2.

A. CUSTOM PC!

Look into building PCs for an hour, find a friend who knows something about the subject, and build away. You won't find any brand name desktops for light gaming.

What is the difference between the three versions of Windows 7?
Q. Im building a new computer for light gaming and personal use, and Im not sure why I would get a $500 version of Windows 7 ultimate as compared to $100 for home premium. So is there a reason to get a more expensive version in my case when all I'll be doing is some gaming and storing movies/pictures?

A. Well if you want to install Windows 7 just for home use and if all of the games you play are compatible with windows 7, the Home Premium edition should do the job.

I mentioned compatibility because Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate let you install ‘Windows XP Mode’ (available at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx ) which is a virtual Windows XP machine that lets you run XP-compatible programs even if they do not work with ‘Backward Compatibility’ (Refers to running a program not compatible with Windows 7 in a compatibility mode of an older version of windows. Works for most programs). You can open a program in this mode by right clicking its icon, clicking ‘Troubleshoot Compatibility’ and following the wizard.

Will this computer work for light gaming?
Q. I'm looking for a computer to use mostly for light gaming, but without spending a ton of money on. I don't play any high demanding games. Instead I mostly play the Total War games. I found a Toshiba L755D-S5218 for $479.99 at Best Buy. Here are the specs:

-AMD Quad-Core A6 processor (2.3GHz)
-4GB RAM
-320GB hard drive
-Radeon HD 6520G graphics card

Will this computer run these type of games? Is the graphics card any good?

A. For light games- yes.
