A. Yes, that configuration would play WoW and Borderlands 2 on ultra without lag.

But it's not the most cost-effective build for the money. You're burning money on things which don't improve performance and skimping in other areas you shouldn't.

First of all, dual GTX 550 Ti's is quite powerful. However, it's always better to have a single higher-end card than a pair of lesser cards running in SLI or Crossfire. SLI performance doesn't scale equally for all games. SLI/CF setups also experience more graphics driver glitches/bugs and also may run afoul of micro-stuttering. Instead of two GTX 550 Ti cards, you're better off with a single GTX 660, which can play top-end titles like BF3 on ultra at 1080p.

By the way, for WoW and Borderlands 2 on that 1366x768 monitor, even a single GTX 550 Ti is enough to run smoothly on ultra.

Second, AMD processors have weaker gaming performance than Intel. Core i5 is the best choice for gaming builds. Even Core i3 beats most AMD processors.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/amd-fx-8120-6100-4100_6.html#sect0

Third, putting 16GB of RAM into a gaming rig is just wasting money. No games utilize more than 4GB of RAM. With 8GB you've got enough to keep your rig future-proof for the next 3-4 years. Gaming requires a high-end graphics

Fourth, you want a good quality power supply- something from a top brand like Corsair or Antec, not the generic one.

Finally, why do you have a secondary hard drive of 500GB? There's no reason for it... and unless you're storing a TON of videos and music, 2TB isn't needed for your main drive. A 1TB drive would be plenty. You might consider an SSD for super-fast boot times along with a 1TB secondary drive, but that's a degree of decadence you might not be interested in ;)

Instead of starting with the Mega Special I, start with the Mega Special III (base price $825)

I suggest taking the air cooling option - Cooler master Hyper 212 EVO rather than liquid cooling. That's fine even for moderate overclocking (which isn't necessary with a Core i5) and is basically zero maintenance.

Upgrade to the Corsair TX650 power supply and 2GB GTX 660 (which is currently a free upgrade from the GTX 560 Ti)

Keep the default Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H motherboard and 8GB of 1600Mhz RAM... those are fine.

You can still chose the Raidmax Augusta case if you really like it... Otherwise the default Cooler Master HAF 912 is just as good and costs less.

Add 64-bit Windows 7, your Azza gaming keyboard and mouse, your 600W PMPO speakers (although I recommend at least getting the Creative T3130) and you're set.

You can choose their ultra care options, although they're pretty much a rip-off. The professional wiring option is pointless when you're running a single graphics card- there's PLENTY of space inside the case, no airflow problems. The ultra enhanced packaging is just some extra foam that won't really matter if the delivery guy tosses the box over a fence. Assuming it doesn't suffer some awful mishap, their standard packaging provides ample protection.

Even with the Thermal Fusion 400 compound and Professional wiring options, your total is $1207 before taxes/shipping, without monitor.

I advise AGAINST getting your monitor from CyberpowerPC, I don't really like their prices, or the models offered. Get that from Newegg or Amazon. For example, this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824113030

Or if you want a full 1080p monitor, this one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009316

So you spend less, for a better-performing system. Good luck!

help on gaming computer?
Q. so i been trying to find a computer online for gaming, i want it to be decent and cost arround $700, i dont care about the monitor i just want it to come witha keyboard and mouse, i been looking on for about 2 months now but still cant find one, one time i found one but its out of stock now, if it can run almost any recent game like bf3 or far cry 3, crysis 3 on ultra settings it would be great.i have been lookin in iBUYPOWER , NEWEGG, ETC. please someone help me! i really dont want to build one

A. ULTRA SETTINGS ON A $700 COMPUTER????
Good luck with that.....

Around $700 you are barely in the low budget gaming computer area....

Also, a gaming computer is NOT something you buy.
You either build it yourself or custom order from a reputable builder like AVA Direct, iBuyPower or CyberPowerPC

Here is the best low budget gaming PC you can build for around $750:

Yahoo answers will only allow up to 10 links, so I have to leave out the not so important components. Just copy paste in the search field on Newegg to find them, I will give the full name but no link for those.

BEST BUDGET GAMING DESKTOP PC BUILD FOR THE MONEY (under $750.00USD for the tower only)
Monitor, keyboard and mouse can add from $175 to over $500, depending on size and model you want.
All prices are in $USD and in the USA, current as of December 2012 and they might be slightly different one way or the other by now.
Also, some shipping charges may apply to some of the items.
Add your state sales tax if you reside in NJ, CA or TN - that's where Newegg has warehouses.
Look for similar parts on Amazon, Tiger Direct, etc if you want to avoid paying Uncle Sam.

FACT: INTEL IS A MUCH BETTER PROCESSOR FOR GAMING THAN ANY AMD.

Processor: Intel Core i3-3220 Ivy Bridge 3.3GHz LGA 1155 55W Dual-Core Desktop Processor - $119.99

What's the best gaming computer for the money?

Q. I am looking for a good gaming computer but don't really have a thousand dollars to spend on it. I think that my max price would be from 300-500. Does anyone know any good ones? And I would like for it to be strong enough to play arma 2 and project reality. Thanks.

A. To be honest with your price range your options are limited. There is a budget build here: http://www.omfgnetwork.com/2012/omfg-network-amd-copper-build-2/ But it does not include the monitor, mouse, ect. But that all depends on if you want to build your own computer. Also Alien Ware tends to be more expensive than building it yourself, but you will not have to assemble it yourself.

How much have computers improved? 2009 - 2012?
Q. i bought my computer in 2009 for 1200$

If i buy a new computer for the same price now... how much better would it be?

so what i' actually asking is how much has technology changed since 2009?

*i used everest to find my specs so don't hate...*

A. So there are essentially two questions rolled into one here. The one is "what would $1200 buy me today", and the other would be "how does my computer stack up to a new one".

Well.

If one looks directly at Moore's Law, then one can say that relatively speaking, your computer is about one-fourth the computer it used to be. Every 18 months, 36 months = 3 years = (1/2)^2. However, evaluating that doesn't take into account the different speeds at which the various technology areas develop.

One can also use the simple rule of thumb that a desktop computer is mostly obsolete (in the sense that it isn't cutting edge any more, but may still be usable) after five years. In that case, your computer is about a third of the computer it used to be.

The flooding in Thailand last year has still raised hard drive prices. A computer that is comparable to yours right now would be paying more for the hard disk space you have than for, say, processors and GPU performance.

There's also depreciation in the sense that $1200 in 2009 was worth more than $1200 is today.

Here's a sample computer. All prices are from Newegg. It won't be exactly as yours, obviously, mostly because the Z68 chipset allows the Smart boost from an SSD (not included), but it should outperform or match your rig quite handily. The PSU has plenty of headroom, too.

I've included a computer case and a license for the OS as well, but I have not included a monitor, keyboard, and so on.

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, $190
Case: Antec Three Hundred, $60
PSU: Corsair HX750, $150
Motherboard + CPU: i5-2500k + GA-Z58MA mATX, $320
Memory: 16 GB DDR3 1600 MHz Corsair Vengeance, $99
Optical drive: ASUS DVD burner, $22
GPU: ASUS ENGTX560 GeForce GTX 560, $200
HDD: WD Black 1.5 TB SATA3, $160

= $1201

So. Let's look at numbers.

Your computer has 4 GB system memory. This computer has 16 GB, and is likely faster than what you have.

You seem to be running a SLI setup for the GTS 250. One single GTS 250 benches at 1074. One single 560 (no TI) benches at 2724. So even with 100% increase (and a SLI setup is usually closer to 50% than 100% increase), one single 560 still outperforms two GTS 250s by 600 points or so.

One Xeon clocked at 3179 MHz... well, that depends on what Xeon it is. You didn't include that, but the Bloomfield series are LGA 1366, and was released at the end of the year in 2009. So it's likely a W3550 (though that one was $562 at release, so you may have a cheaper one). The W3550 benches at 5822. The i5 2500k benches at 6743, so it's still faster.

The disk setup should also be faster than your setup, with or without RAID - simply because SATA 3. Yes, that's the reason.

Where can I see the Hunger games online?

Q. I wanted to se the Hunger games and i found a website but it got stuck every minute so I couldn't finish it because it erased so I wanted to know if any of you know where I can see it.

A. if i were you i would not even try to go to any website that lets you watch the hunger games online because the hunger games has not even come out on DVD or even netflix so any website that lets you watch the hunger games is lying especially if it's telling you to download something it's not gonna let you watch the movie still you have to download a billion downloads. But the good thing is that the hunger games will come out in august 18 2012 so if you want to you can still pre order the hunger games and not watch online with a crappy website that lyes to you. hey and like you said it got stuck everytime at like one part and you can't even watch it. See it will always get stuck. my friend really wanted to see the hunger games online because she could not even go to the movie theatre so it her like a year just to find a website that you dont have to pay to watch the hunger games online and right when she found a website that you dont have to pay to watch online she downloaded everything and all she got was not the movie but she got a virus on her computer it was not only slow and wont load it shuts down once it turns on and it was so messed up that it messed with mouse and keyboard her keyboard and mouse was not wireless so she kept unplugging it and plugging in both keyboard and mouse. And then eventually her computer was all messed up and she payed all of her money for the computer it was $800.99 that was all the money she had! and her computer went bye bye. so really dont try to even go to a website that lets you watch a movie. unless you want that to happen to you go to a website that lets you watch a movie. but i went to hulu.com and nothing happens. here is the link : http://www.hulu.com i hope this helped! and please rate five star everyone!

Where should I buy a cheap computer?
Q. We need a new desktop. I want something up to date and reliable which is good for checking email, paying bills, downloading videos and is inexpensive. We don't need it for video games or anything really fast like that. Where is the best place to buy a cheap computer?

A. First question is how cheap?
There are used PCs as both laptops and desktops on Craigslist and Goodwill stores for under $100.
They are not up to date and not necessarily reliable, but they function, and that is cheap.

The second is about your monitor-display, or are you using a TV that hopefully is higher resolution than x768. 720p TVs cause display issues in WIndows 8. Most computers today do not include the monitor, but do include a keyboard and mouse, and may or may not include USB speakers.

Third question is whether you go ethernet connected by cable, or do you need wireless. Some computers include wireless. Others need an added PCI card or USB stick.

Fourth question is form factor. There are towers called desktops in various sizes and go down to slimline and bookshelf and mini's. Often, you get better performance out of a low priced laptop, especially if including a display, and the laptops usually have HDMI outputs and can accept inexpensive mice, keyboards, improved speakers, and have portability.

With form factor goes the ease of upgrade or repair. In general, the larger and less integrated the system, the easier it is to repair or upgrade it.

Although you do not need high performance, we usually want the best value for the money, and a bit faster response times can't hurt. More ram is better. Larger HDD is better. CPU scores can be looked up:
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php
A second tab has graphics scores that are less important to you.

Places to buy are many in the US.
There are weekly sales of a couple of models and clearances.
Walmart, Staples, Best Buy, Newegg.com, Tigerdirect.com, Amazon.com gets you a variety and you can google a model once you find one to see if it is offered for less somewhere else.

You read a couple of surveys on quality:
2012 survey:
http://www.pcworld.com/article/2020964/apple-and-lenovo-desktop-pcs-tops-in-satisfaction.html
2011 Survey:
http://www.pcworld.com/article/244481/desktop_pc_reliability_and_satisfaction_dell_and_hp_home_pcs_get_poor_grades.html
and use it as a factor, but Apple is expensive for what you get.

My sister wanted what you describe. She has a few older PCs and monitors, but wanted one where the internet worked faster and boot up faster and application responsiveness up to $500 and she ended up with a Lenovo H430 at Staples with Windows 8, a Core i5-3330 and 8GB RAM and a 1TB HDD and that met her requirements well in a tower pc.

Now, you start with a couple that meet your needs and see if you can do better:
A basic slimline Acer-Gateway for $340
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883113245
Model SX2370-UR13
A6-Series APU A6-3620(2.2GHz)
1x4GB DDR3 500GB 7200 RPM SATA III HDD
AMD Radeon HD 6530D
Gigabit ethernet, Bluetooth and WiFi
memory card reader
2USB 3.0 in back. 4USB 2.0
VGA and HDMI outputs
CPU score 2924, and graphics G3D 548
It would be nice to buy and install a second 4GB RAM card. That is easy.
$30 to $35 in a do-it-yourself
http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/memory/#t=11&v=1500&z=4096&c=90&n=1&sort=a8
Just match what it has already in speed.
It is an early 2012 CPU below an Intel i3 but still fast enough with graphics power you don't really need but is above Intel integrated HD 4000 but not gaming level. It is the new Windows 8 to get used to, but is a faster boot and shutdown. Does what you want and the price is considered cheap and size is small, but upgrading is minimal.
In Intel, whether Newegg or Walmart at about the same price, size and brand, gets an Intel G640 Pentium with 4GB RAM and 1TB HDD. The CPU and graphics are a little lower in performance but the HDD is bigger:
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Gateway-SX2865-UR308-Small-Form-Factor-Desktop-PC-with-Intel-Pentium-G640-Processor-4GB-Memory-1TB-Hard-Drive-and-Windows-8-Monitor-Not-Included/22018103
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883113244

The choices are endless, so you have to narrow down your preferences and price point. Then you can just browse the online circulars and sites.

How do i get my sister to quit WoW? (don't click if you're not patient and please answer seriously?
Q. Hello,My name is Andrew.(In advance,my English isn't the best,i'm 15 and from Serbia,what can you expect? :P)
I'm from Serbia and i'm 15 years old. When i was 12,i discovered a game called "World of Warcraft" and i started playing it.It wasn't very addictive at start and i didn't play it too often.I reached level 80 when i was about 13 years old and that's where the game got very addictive.I would normally play for hours doing dungeons, playing battlegrounds and stuff like that. But when i was about 13 and a half years old (about 6 months after i turned level 80) i had a decently geared character and played even more.In some of those days,my sister saw me play the game and after seeing my mount (invincible) which is a horse (btw. she loves horses) she took an interest in trying the game out.I let her play almost every day on my account a bit,and she loved the game,so she decided to get herself a account. She made multiple characters with different classes and started leveling and playing the game. When she finally reached level 80,she got addicted to the game, meanwhile,i deleted my account and all my characters because i understood the game was making me lose a lot of my free-time,but she didn't quit.In the early days, when her gear wasn't really that strong, she wasn't so "aggressive" as she is these days...today,while i was asking her questions about her character, she refused to answer. All i did was just ask "put the mouse on your tremor totem,i want to see something" and she just said no and i said "it's just one second, just move your mouse!" and then she took her headphones, threw them at me,took her chair, threw that too lol,and i couldn't just stand there and get "beaten" by her just for asking something,so i slapped her..because..well she deserved it..This wasn't really the first time she's done something like this, one time i told her that she should spend less time with her game and more time outside like before i showed her the game, and she took my pencils and things i had on my table and threw them at me O.o .I don't know if this has anything to do with our parents wanting to get a divorce, summer 2012,because there was a lot of yelling and violence those days..but it's all okay now :/ And i know some of my sentences don't make sense in English, but neither do they make sense in Serbian,i was always a shy kid :p
But after quitting WoW i made a lot of new friends and i even started working out, studying more and my life got much better. But things don't look so bright for my sister...so please guys, tell me,how do i make her quit? i've tried telling her how my life has gotten better after quitting, but she just didn't listen...and again, sorry for my bad English :)

A. no your english is more than fine, look i was addicted with minecraft at one point. just go cold turkey with her. limit her internet and dont let her use the computer. put a password on it so she cant get on. she might just go to the library or something to play(which is what i did, pretty patethic huh?). so change her accounts password. she might scream and fight like a child but shell get a new hobby soon. gl :)

A. no your english is more than fine, look i was addicted with minecraft at one point. just go cold turkey with her. limit her internet and dont let her use the computer. put a password on it so she cant get on. she might just go to the library or something to play(which is what i did, pretty patethic huh?). so change her accounts password. she might scream and fight like a child but shell get a new hobby soon. gl :)
