How much tv or video games do your kids engage in?

Q. Do any parents on here have a system for allowing their kids to watch tv, use the computer, or play video games?
Do any of you let your children regulate that themselves as long as their homework, chores, etc are being done?
Do any parents make their kids earn time to play video games, watch tv, or surf the net?
Briefly, what is your approach to this, and why?

A. Do any parents on here have a system for allowing their kids to watch tv, use the computer, or play video games?
No not really.
Do any of you let your children regulate that themselves as long as their homework, chores, etc are being done?
Yes, because he is very good at not playing for HOURS at a time. He plays xbox for like 30mins to an hour. Same with TV. He plays with his toys, or outside, or with his sister, or he reads.
Do any parents make their kids earn time to play video games, watch tv, or surf the net?
No not really. As long as everything else is done, he is free to do as he pleases.
Briefly, what is your approach to this, and why?
See above and the reason why is that I see no reason to change his habits when he does pretty good for a 7 year old boy. He gets good grades and he is a nice well mannered child.

Is America becoming too much of a nerdy society?
Q. We are preaching in schools that standing up for yourself is never right and children and adults alike are becoming fat. We also have many kids that overuse the computer and video games. Kids are not going outside as much.

A. For alot of social groups, it's uncool to be smart. I don't think you have to worry about America being "too nerdy". It's one of the worst education systems in the world.

What you are complaining about is technology and it's effect on society. We are naturally lazy, but technology helps us become even lazier. Combine that with poor education systems and there is big problems.

Parents need to teach their kids the value of getting some sun, getting some exercise, and eating healthy. Same as always. There is no doubt that technology makes it easier for the bad parents to have the xbox babysit for them. But bad parents will always be bad parents.

If I had my way, parents would need a license, the same way they need a license for their car. However that's another issue.
