What brand of computer do you think is the best?

Q. I'm in the market for a new home computer desktop. Which brand does everyone think is the best. I mainly use it for online gaming, photo editing, creating dvds and ripping cds to put on mp3 players. Brands I'm considering are...HP, Dell, Compaq, Gateway. Any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks

A. Prebuilt computers: Have inferior quality hardware, are almost always overpriced, use cheap power supplies that fry about 18 months into the life of the machine, have terrible stock cooling which raises temps and shortens component lifespan, use old lines of hardware, and really aren't designed to last longer than the warranty period.

Custom PC's: Use brand-name hardware components, are excellent value-for-money, use quality 80+ certified power supplies (5 year warranty in most cases), have lower running temps, use latest hardware, and hardware components carry their own OEM warranty.

Simply put, don't buy a prebuilt unless you want to pay more for less. Instead, build your own computer, its as easy as a lego model. If that still sounds too daunting, then find your nearest local independent computer store and buy a custom PC. Doing this allows you to choose each component in the build individually, and you'll get a lot more for your money.

Brand recommendations:
Case - Coolermaster, Lian Li, Fractal Designs, Silverstone.
Mobo, Video Card, and other circuitboard components - Asus, EVGA, Gigabyte, MSI
Harddrive - Western Digital, Samsung
Optical Drive - Samsung, LG, Lite-On, Sony
Power Supply - Corsair, Seasonic, Antec, Thermaltake

Is there a big difference between intel gma 4500 and?
Q. 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530?? There's a big price difference but is it worth the upgrade? I do some minor photo editing and simple games and the usual internet browsing. I will probably be impressed with either since my computer's graphics card is very old and not good but I need help choosing btwn the two! Thanks!

A. For simple games and such the Intel will be ok. Keep in mind that most Intel graphics solutions do not have full hardware rendering support (Such as hardware T&L) and rely heavily on your CPU which can slow things down. The mobility Radeon will be a LOT faster than the Intel's.
