Gaming computer laptop?

Q. I was thinking about selling my macbook an getting a good gaming computer. Price isnt a big factor but hopefully under 3k. I would also be cool if it was like a name brand one with as good costumer service as apple.

A. I'd get either an XPS, or go with a macbook pro and dual boot windows and mac os x w/ bootcamp, so you could use windows for gaming and mac for everything else on the same laptop (I use a mac at home and I prefer them). Apple's customer service is unrivaled. You WON'T get anything that matches them. Period. I know you know this, but I'll still explain it for anyone else. You can bring your computer right up to the genius bar at one of their stores and they will fix it for you whether it's something simple like a broken key, or a worse problem (they've done so for me on numerous occasions). Just be sure to get a decent graphics card. I would definitely get the pro and forget about your macbook since the low end has non-upgradeable integrated graphics that would suck for gaming. You'll want a machine that will play next year's games as well as today's.

alternatively, you could build your own windows book for a fraction of the cost (and a fraction of the experience, imho anyway, but you'll still be getting a great gaming machine)
it all comes down to your preference

Also, you could just keep the macbook and get a desktop for gaming. It's more cost effective; do you really need to game on the road?

laptop/computer to create a video game?
Q. hi my boyfriend writes stories and plots
and he told me a while back that he would like to make video games and his birthday is coming up and i have no clue about what type of laptop or computer would be good to build games, or program so please any help will help me thank you so much.

A. You don't really need any special computer to make games unless you are gonna make your own models as well, if you're making a 3D game that is. You could probably go to newegg and get almost any $500 desktop and it will be able to use the programs needed to be able to make games.

As far as programs used to make games here is a good list of some. http://makegames.pixelprospector.com/

The one you choose depends on what kind of game you want to make and how much programming knowledge your boyfriend has.

For decent programming knowledge you can try Unity or Unreal. Unity feels kind of limited to me, but maybe because I'm more use to starting straight from scratch with regular C#. Unreal I never got to far into because it is mostly for fps type games. Unreal can make a world fairly quick though, but once again never got far enough into Unreal to try coding it in.

For very little programming knowledge try Game Maker or rpg maker. I've seen some nice free games made in these, but they can be expensive if you buy them.

As for the other programs listed on that site, I haven't tried them out so explore them to see what could be best to start with.
