What is a good cheap gaming computer?

Q. I wanna buy a gaming computer for christmas that isn't thousands of dollars and is priced between 400 and 700 bucks. Any suggestions?

A. The typical budget build is this:
AMD Phenom II X4 955BE
Asus M5A97
HD 6850
G. Skill Ripjaws 2x2GB DDR3-1333 CL9
Antec Earthwatts 650W
NZXT Source 210
1TB HDD

Or for an intel build:
Intel Core i3-2120
Asrock U3S3
HD 6850
G. Skill Ripjaws 2x2GB DDR3-1333 CL9
Antec Earthwatts 650W
NZXT Source 210
1TB HDD

For $700, you can even opt to get an HD 6870 or GTX 560 if you wait for hard drive prices to go down.

how can i obtain a good gaming computer for $400 dollars or less?
Q. i've always wanted to get a good gaming computer but im not patient enough to save my money forever and if i do, by the time i get the computer i might not even really want it anymore. so i wanted to know if anyone out there could help me. i want it to at least be able to play oblivion (the elder scrolls IV) easilly. k thx bai.

A. 400 dollars may be hard to do. Might I suggest trying to get used parts or recycling certain parts from an older computer that you don't use much (such as it's CD or DVD drive, possibly hard drive if it has enough space/speed, and/or maybe the computer case itself)? You should probably make a budget and see what parts you can get for your money. I remember doing this with OpenOffice.Org's Presentation program. You can set it up to add up the costs for you when you add/change something to the list. I'd guess you'd probably want atleast 2 GB of RAM, maybe 4. Then, I'd go for a decent, newer graphics card (probably a Nvidia Geforce 9800 or better; or it's ATI equivalent. Sorry, I don't know which ATI card would be it). Another answerer already covered the processor.

Good luck to you!
