Do intellectual property laws apply at all across international borders?

Q. I recently read an article about a Brazilian computer game company copying an American computer game company's products in a clear and consistent manner. But does the American company have any remedies? The companies' products are mostly or completely through facebook, so it would seem that the Brazilian company does not have an entity in America, rather it can operate remotely, in Brazil, and American consumers navigate the web to them. There are no physical goods and therefore no need to have subsidiaries across the border. Does this sort of thing fall under our trade agreements?

A. No. International copyright does not exist. It is Country by Country.

What type of business should I start?
Q. I figured I had three choices, more so wondering what is the most lucrative and easiest to start.
1. Digital Sinage Company (Idea to use the technology and sell it to bars)
2. Consulting Firm (Possibly Advertising)
3. Computer Gaming (Software) Company
4. Financial Firm (Current Stockbroker)

Thanks!

A. I would do computer gaming for the following reasons:
1. There is a huge customer base for almost any kind of game or gaming addon
2. You can start small by doing simpler gaming addons then expand to doing parts of games with other groups or an entire game on your own
3. There are a lot of tutorials and free programs such as GMax with which you can quickly begin making games and gaming addons
4. By finding some good vendors you can have them make installers and license keys for you so that you can release your product faster
5. Small gaming companies constantly merge with other groups which is a great way to be able to make even more great products
6. Almost as soon as you release your product (depends on how often your vendors send payments, some do it once a week, others once a month) you will start seeing income right away
7. With many of the skills you learn from this you can do contract work as well (For example, I do gaming addons for Microsoft Flight Simulator X, but with what I have learned from making addons I make twice as much every month doing simple side jobs such as setting up new flight dynamics, setting up websites, consulting as a paid beta tester, and assisting in the development of advertising videos)

I hope this helps with your decision
