What should i expect from a gaming desktop and whats a good brand?

Q. I am looking at getting a gaming comp, but i don't know too much about them. I have done some research but i just don't know whats what. I would like to keep it under 1500 bucks, but would be willing to spend a lil over that. Any help would be great!

A. can't stress enough this point, avoid windows vista at all cost, it's a gamers nightmare. go with windows xp or windows 7, or if you're feeling really adventurous, go for a mac. either way, if you'd like one custom built, try going to a few local computer places, like frye's if there's any nearby. geeksquad has a few decnet ones, but since we're talking about gaming, try alienware. if it's not your style, or too pricey, there's fujitsu, and of course it never hurts to check inside a PC gamer's magazine. they're got alot of awesome advertiser's in there usually with awesome custom pc's that make gamers drool.

and if you need a gamer's laptop, i'd say go for the same thing, but also check out qvc.com. there's payment plans that don't require credit checks, and they've got some hooked up hp's on there for awesome prices.

the main specs you want to pay close attention to in a gaming laptop is RAM, you'll want a min. of 3 gb's, the video card makes or breaks the deal, you'll want 512 or better and stick with nvidia or ati radeon. avoid processors below 2.3 with laptops, 3.0 for desktops. harddrive's are where u can be flexible, but you'll want 320gb+, if you go with a desktop there's a chance of adding a slave drive later so remember that. yes 500gb is ideal, but you'll never fill it up lol, same with a terrabyte which is 1000gb.
and there's the other advatnages of a gaming desktop...cooling. you'll want 3-6 fans, supercooling when possible. power supply varies depending on your motherboard, but remember to stay above 350. if u build it yourself, make sure you get the motherboard and tower first since the rest of your parts HAVE to be compatible with them to work.
hope this helps and good luck in your search!

What is the best gaming laptop for 1500 or less?
Q. I want a good laptop for under 1500. I want it to be able to run games at the highest settings and I want it from a good company. Thanks

A. Dell.com ftw. If this link shows you the changes I made, its at 1500 exactly.

Basicly, it has 8GB Ram (only thing higher is 16GB and would cost ~2500) with a graphics card of 3GB (99% of all computers I've seen have 1GB. And those are the high quality gaming computers. 3GB is like family sizing a bag of doritos instead of getting some from a vendoring machine.) And around 3.3Ghz. And 750GB Harddrive. This thing is like 25-40% better then mine, yet mine can run any game that is currently availible on the highest settings, lag free. This 1500$ laptop would probably last you 2-7 years (We'll see after BFBC3 comes out. Its suppose to revolutionize the standards for online gaming, which might radicly surpress the life of any computer bought within a year of its release. I doubt it though, and to be more advanced then a laptop like this, would blow my mind.)

It didnt show the changes btw. So click the "memory" "video card" and "hard drive" tabs at the bottom, and change them to 8GB, 3GB, and 750 GB respectively.
