What high school classes should a kid take to get accepted into college for computer game design?

Q. My son is a sophomore in high school and wants to become a computer game designer. what kind of classes should he take while still in high school to make have the best chance at getting accepted into college for computer game design? Also, should he be doing anything extra-curricular?

A. The best course of action in high school is always to take the most challenging classes you can that your school offers. It's very important to have a base of core classes. Encourage him to take electives that he's interested in and relate to computer science and/or graphic design.
Also, extracurriculars are very important. Your son should try to develop well-rounded interests. Volunteer work is very important. As far as computer game designing goes, try to get him into some kind of computer club at his school or in your community. This will expose him to what he'll be studying in college.

What is the name of a computer game for Mac with tiny blue monsters?
Q. About 7 years ago I used to play a computer game on a Mac in school, which contained little creatures (I think they were blue or purple, but I'm not sure), which you had to get home by working out logical problems (like getting the creatures over a bridge)... Does anyone know, what's the game called? Thanks.

A. Smurfs!!
